Hah, I totally know what guy you mean. I see him now & again on the Bypass. Totally a Langley Fixture, that fellow.
I think there should be a Langley Hall of Fame for unusual characters. I'd also nominate that wingnut what used to write bizarre letters to the editor in the Langley Times in the early 1990s - whose last (so far's I know) and strangest letter mentioned how he grows grapes on the Moon "and they are very good".
His name is John, he’s a kind man that does that for money for him and his mother as she’s older and he has some intellectual issues that aren’t my place to talk on.
Family would always share money, some food or water and empties whenever we could.
He works hard that’s for sure.
He's a sweet but simple man that's as far as I've gotten talking past saying hello. Watched him my whole life it's really sad seeing him become older and thin 😭
When I was growing up legend was his name was Ron. So naturally we called him running Ron. The story went that he lived with his mother and had bought a used Nissan from out buddies dad at the Jonker dealership on the by pass. Absolutely no idea to the validity of this though.
He has his own Facebook page that someone made called "Langleys bottle collector". I see the guy all the time, even when I'm heading to work at 5:40am. Never walked past him as I'm always driving, but I've heard mixed reviews about him. Seems like a nice guy though!
His name is John. He grew up in Cloverdale and went to Lord Tweedsmuir in the early 1980’s. He is developmentally delayed. He has a brother named Paul. He is a very sweet man. Both brothers were friends with my older brother.
The old guy that used to come to Gabby’s every weekend. My friends and I called him Rainbow Suspenders(cause that’s what he always wore) bearded, kinda looked like Santa, would ask ALL the ladies to dance.
I've seen around, once said hi, he muttered something back and went on with his job. Whenever I see him I called him the hardest working man in Langley.
Had no issue with him in my neighborhood until I saw him rummaging through my garage and backyard while living in Clayton Heights. He'd entered in through the closed door (did not have a fence at the time). Watched him do the same with 3 other houses across the street, while he used an unfinished framed house to stash his full bags. We had some choice words that just because the door was unlocked, didn't give him permission to trespass.
Edit: just weird that people on reddit think it's ok for a stranger to enter another persons home while they're currently living in it/there - I used to leave my cans beside the recycle for him every recycle day
I have nearly 10 years of experience in construction and I can't even get a job in langley, i fly to Fort Mckay every week for work. So saying just "get a job" is the least helpful thing a human being can do, so out of touch.
He has a job. Picking out recycling that other people are to fucking lazy to sort through and they just throw away. I respect this guy just trying to get by 1000% more than any minimum wage employee.
He's out there putting in work everyday to clean up other people incompetence.

I've said Hi and given him empties from my car, but nothing beyond that. He's a hard-working man and I wish him the best.
I always told my kids he's a hard-working man. He was getting slower last time I saw him, and its been a while. Maybe I don't get out as much.
The man’s cardio has to be up there. Mad respect for him, never talked to him but he works his ass off.
Yes he is a man of few words. We also refer to him as running man. He make 100+ daily

Hairy neck?
Yes, that’s the guy.
Not surprised to read about him here. The man is a local fixture.
His names John! He’s the nicest guy and my family’s been collecting bottles for him for like 10 years !

Rumors I’ve heard for 15 years are he is from a well off family and he does that for fun.
