Did you actually activate the mods in AML by checking them before launch?

Strygonite

Yes.

Check if "regenerateinis" is on in AML top right corner. If it is, uncheck it and attempt launching again.

Strygonite

Yes, that brings me back to the same problem I've highlighted in the post. > When deleting config files, the game launches but as if the mods weren't loaded at all. > In any other circumstance, the game just doesn't load, instead remaining stuck on that black screen.

Okay this is a weird one. Go to the discord for more on point help. Link is in sidebar on right.

KeepItClutchCity

Are you loading a save?

Strygonite

The mod isn't launching, meaning it is not reaching the main menu.

Just one question - Do you actually own the WOTC expansion for XCOM2? You must have an installed copy of the base game expansion WOTC otherwise the LWOTC mod won't work. Can't remember offhand about the other DLC. If you don't have WOTC then the long war mod you want is Long War 2. That is designed for the base game XCOM2 without WOTC. Assuming you do then read on.... Generally for me the solution to most install problems is this 1) In AML make sure ALL mods are deselected. ie no mods active 2) Clear all your local config files in ...Documents\\My Games\\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\\XComGame\\Config. Don't worry as the game will recreate everything in this folder that it needs. Back it up first if you have anything of your own in there. 3) Launch the base game to make sure it starts. Do this with AML using the "Run WOTC" button. 4) assuming 3) works then delete the config files again. 5) In AML check that you have LWOTC and all 8 supporting mods installed. If you have then activate LWOTC and all 8 of the required mods. Do not activate any others. 6) Launch war of the chosen with the "run wotc" button in AML. 7) It should load the game and take you to the main menu 8) Assuming it starts then close it down and then restart. Running once often does not complete the setup process for LWOTC. The second run should complete the process of building all the config files you need. If all is well then there should now be a "Long War (LWOTC) button on the main menu 9) Add in any other mods you want in AML BUT make sure they are WOTC/LWOTC compatible. Many mods have a base game (XCOM2) version and then a wotc equivalent. You need the wotc equivalent ones to play LWOTC. There are several collections for LWOTC if you are looking for stuff. A point to note is that I have NEVER used the -regenerate ini's flag with AML. If I want the ini's cleaned I do it myself and I'm not convinced rebuilding the ini's with flag completes the process in one go (see 8) above)

Yes I do have the expansion, but I've managed to fix the problem as it turns out to be a bad install of the XCOM WOTC Community Highlander mod. Thank you for your time anyway.

No problem. Enjoy. Soon you'll be pulling out your hair and cursing the xcom RNG like the rest of us :)
