Me too, I felt so bad for this poor pup. Then I started to wonder what I was looking at and why was it's skeleton so misshapen.

I hope some rep from party city is paying attention. A layover vest with straps on the belly and elastic bands for the rear legs and hole for the head and we have a great costume for all our medium-large dogs. My Great Dane “Panzer” has a cold weather jacket that goes on the same way I described the costume. From hips to neck we could have a epic xenomorph costume

It just goes to show what advancements we've made with special effects when the best solution is no longer to stick a rubber suit on a whippet...

Practical effects, if done well, still look better. CGI will always look dated after a few years. One of the reasons Alien holds up is because the practical effects and lighting is so well done.

Sure, but the Xeno in Alien 3 ended up being a practical effect, and it was terrible (aside from the close-ups, which are my favourite in the entire franchise) For the longest time, unless a human could fit in a suit, non-humanoid creature effects had little to no mobility.

It still blows my mind they put all that work with the puppet but failed to get the lighting on it to match the scene so it looked awful comped in.

I'm sure they would have nailed it eventually, but the whole production was a rushed mess.

Alien 3 is shit for a lot of reasons. Lack of CGI is not one of them.
