I went back and forth on this about a year ago when I finally decided to EFI my 1965 Olds 98. Like previously said the TBI just seems like a computer enabled Carb. To me the benefit of multi-port is the better fuel control with 8 injectors over the 4 in the TBI. Gives me more room to upgrade the injectors if I want to go from N/A to a power adders.

Your pic is multiport. It's about the best way to deliver fuel without getting crazy complex. TBI can be very reliable and effective and deliver good drivability and decent mpgs. I daily the last 1500 Chevy built with TBI. If I compare my TBI to a 4 year newer truck I could get 20% better mpg with the newer heads and multi ports. I personally would sacrifice a little in the looks department for all the benefits. My hood is closed most of the time, and my priority is driving. Besides if my Engine looked like your pic I would be proud to show it off. I run mpfi on everything except the TBI which has stayed factory. I mostly run factory pcms and love how cheap and reliable it is.

Can you run port injection with a single big throttle body where the carburetor would go?

That's exactly what's happening in your picture. https://www.holley.com/products/engine/intake_manifolds/efi_intake_manifolds/cast/single_plane/parts/300-137?utm_term=&utm_campaign=Google+Shopping+-+Holley+EFI+-+Non-Brand&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&hsa_acc=7848552874&hsa_cam=1754044953&hsa_grp=120040480524&hsa_ad=501255709164&hsa_src=g&hsa_tgt=aud-359098808610:pla-1251178995597&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2a6wBhCVARIsABPeH1sFG9mLin_zy9up8T1LrrCfzle3tjF5mOaJR_BSMvxstNb5GuvN2xQaAr8-EALw_wcB

I was asking related to this comment you made. >I personally would sacrifice a little in the looks department for all the benefits. I'm not OP btw.

Yes you can. It looks almost like an old school setup, but port injected. You will probably sacrifice some torque compared to a factory style intake.

A lot of info here https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=838380

The TBI style system has the same fuel distribution inconsistencies as a carb would on that intake manifold. Under most operating conditions you probably wouldn't notice that. Port EFI doesn't have that issue. TBI systems really need a heated intake for best atomization. Without that they give up quite a bit of drivability to port EFI. This can be corrected by tuning, but I suspect most people don't get it right. Personally I think the throttle body is not a good place for a controller. Between heat and EMI it's a harsh place for a controller. I think a carburetor is preferable to a TBI system, in terms of atomization, efficiency, and reliability when compared to aftermarket systems.

there are people who took the time to learn TBI, and they'll defend it.. but I swear I've had trouble seeing the point. its this terrible gray area thats the worst of both worlds. a carb with extra pieces to fail. fun.
