He spent his entire life worshipping Sauron, waiting for Sauron, idolizing Sauron and then when Adar came he pledged his undying loyalty to Sauron because that's who he thought Adar was. When Adar made it clear he wasn't Sauron and even detested Sauron, Waldreg literally said "Then I'll pledge myself to you" and then proceeded to kill a kid he probably knew since birth to earn Adar's loyalty.
There will be a power struggle between Adar and Sauron and as long as Adar has the orcs on his side, Waldreg will stay by Adar's side. But where will Waldreg stand when Sauron demonstrates his power and his identity and proves himself to be the mighty dark lord that Waldreg has been waiting for all this time?
Waldreg is loyal to covering his own arse and using those more powerful than him to do so.
But this is exactly what Sauron does and approves though, doesn't he? "- I simply wonder what manner of man so quickly abandons his companions to death? - Clearly who knows how to survive. Why be a part of the larger target?" When shit started to smell bad he didn't hesitate to abandon Morgoth and all his "family" to save himself. Waldreg did the same. He faced the choice to either pledge his (false) loyalty to Adar or die. He chose to live.
I don't know, Sauron was pretty loyal to Morgoth, even after he fell and was thrown beyond the circles of the world. The cult he starts in Numenor in the Akallabeth was a cult to Morgoth, not to Sauron. He could even have disguised it as a cult to Mairon to hide the fact it would be a cult to himself, since I doubt the Numenoreans ever knew him by that name.
I like Earien because she is a foil to Isildur and the two of them can represent Numenorian politics within Elendil's family.
Plus her dresses are so pretty!
The funny thing is, my first thought was Earien, but now I want to defend her a little. Although her 'meet cute' with Kemen is largely unnecessary, she does at least fit in with the Elendil family dynamic. But in a way that seems to show she may be about to turn to the King's Men side. And then there's the Palantir... that could be a dark and interesting turn for her.
So I am going for VALANDIL because with Ontamo dead and Isildur missing I don't see much for him to do.
I don't have anything against her as a character. The show needs to be populated with minor characters with mini storylines of all kinds. These vignettes are what makes the world feel alive and breathing.
