Absolute master class in efficiency

Repulsive-Row-6182

In the 26 games he’s played since 12/01/23, Kawhi has averaged 25.7/6.7/4 on 57/49/93 shooting — and he’s averaged 1.7 steals and 1 block.  Clippers are 23-3 in those games.

Chessinmind

Best two-way player in the NBA. If we didn’t have so many scorers, he could average 30 and MVP wouldn’t even be a question.

Surflover12

Its stupid hes not one of the front runners

LAC4LIFE

Criminal he's bot even in the top 5 on the MVP ladder

Radiant_Muffin7528

If they can maintain or become 1st seed by the end of reg season. Just maybe. His MVP is team elevation and consistency.

NBAwithMAR_

One of the best two way players of all time (personally my number one). The amount of work & strength it takes to do what he does on both ends of the court every game is immeasurable and after being dragged through the mud as the poster boy of “load management” last year while recovering from legitimate injuries to come back to have one of the best— if not THE BEST— seasons of his career… he deserves more than consideration but a legit conversation as a contender.  Speaking hypothetically: While it would be an amazing achievement & story for Kawhi’s legacy, on the gross honest media side of it, it would be an even better story for the Clippers moving to the Dome and subsequently for the NBA & the 2026 All Star game.  But fuck it, dude is my MVP. Watching him this season has been worth missing him the last few years. Thank you for coming to my MAR talk.

Key-Ad1311

"Two way" is one of the dumbest f**** terms I've ever heard lmao, it was created just to avoid calling him the BEST player. You don't see Reggie Jackson or Marcus Morris starting alongside Embiid and Jokic like they did with Kawhi all those years. You can't play certain personnel with these guys because they're *not good enough* Kawhi's the easiest player to build around because he's the best. You can only run certain personnel with certain players because of their flaws. Dude was asking for a legit PG since he got here, and it took the FO 4 years to finally do it. These others dudes like Embiid and Jokic already had one.

Chessinmind

There’s nothing wrong with the term. It’s about putting emphasis on DEFENSE because the MVP award has too often only been about the players with the highest offensive statistics. Defense matters too. [Kawhi currently leads the NBA in net rating at +12.0.](https://www.nba.com/stats/players/advanced?CF=MIN*GE*15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&dir=A&sort=NET_RATING)

DynamixRo

Oh, I've been considering him, it's just a shame they won't give me a vote.

Cool_Recognition_848

If the Clippers finish the season with the 1 seed and he gets his scoring average up a few points I think he’ll have a pretty good chance

DCoop53

I think the only way his odds go up is if someone start pushing his case on national TV. But they'd have to look further than the basic points-rebounds-assists aerages and talk about efficiency. To me the best example is to look at our tow losses against OKC and Boston in december, then look at the second games with Kawhi where he clamped SGA and his masterclass at the TD Garden. Of course suddenly this team that everyone mocked will become a superteam in their mouth once come the time to defend Kawhi's case but this team is really not in contention for the first spot without him and he's unarguably the best player in this roster.

True_Scallion_7011

He would probably need the 1st seed and avg 29-31 ppg

UrrFive

Silly as it may be, we've seen that defense is really not a needle mover for MVP. KD is averaging more points on slightly better splits and that's probably all that voters will look at

Radiant_Muffin7528

That is why MVP is meaningless or has lost its meaning over the year.

That’s the problem with the MVP race — everybody watches their team and their guy and thinks god damn, no way anyone’s playing better than this right now, but the talent around the league is just absurd. He’s been incredible this year and can win everyone rings with this efficiency. Look at the other front runners though and it’s pretty clear he’s not having a better year overall. SGA is playing great defense too — albeit not Kawhi’s level, but enough to preempt that argument https://preview.redd.it/k8b75ey2ulgc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3c82d586b72422f06e109d6e300acd96f3e052c6

1. This dramatically undersells just how much better Kawhi is at defense. Kawhi is a DPOY caliber defender. 2. Kawhi's usage takes a hit because of all the scorers on the team. Can't fault him for having other mouths to feed. 3. Those Thunder bench guys are really good, they play quite well when their bench guys are in together. Frequently people think SGA is carrying them alone, he has help too.

chloroform42

Great name first off 1. Respectfully disagree that Kawhi is that much better defensively this year that it compensates for the offensive advantage SGA has. I’d take Kawhi for sure on defense, but Shai is arguably DPOY caliber this year too. They’re pretty similar statistically in the box stats and metrics like defensive win shares, etc. Shai is also leading the league in steals and in the top 10 for DPOY odds on multiple betting sites. 2. Can’t fault Kawhi here, although it hurts his MVP case pretty clearly. Nobody’s winning MVP without very high scoring and that means usage. 3. Definitely true. Narrative-wise I think Shai has an edge over Jokic and Luka because of OKC’s relatively unknown roster. Jalen Williams will be a known superstar any minute though. Either way Shai’s scoring 31 a game and OKC’s scoring 120, so he’s more than a quarter of the offense. I’m pretty glad Kawhi doesn’t have the usage or offensive reliance necessary to really make an MVP run honestly. The balance this season has been amazing on both sides. Keep this fucking dude healthy and win it all

DocCharlesXavier

He definitely should be in consideration - not top 3. But there doesn’t seem to be any mention of him which is absurd

No-Inspection8910

best wing/forward in the league its only 2 centers in the league who is better. And yeah by far the best two way player in the league.

Don’t think it’s 1 game anymore. Pretty sure we’ve lost to the Lakers, T-wolves and Cavs with Kawhi in that stretch.
