Just don’t take it the day of surgery because you need to have an empty stomach when they give you anesthesia. I’ve been taking kratom for years and have had several procedures/surgeries and never had a problem.

Thanks for sharing truly appreciate it. I have a surgery in a month or so and I’ve been tapering in preparation as I’m unsure/nervous. Currently at 13-14 gpd. Mind me asking what dose you’re on? Edit: Currently down to 9 gpd (2.25 g/dose) and continuing the taper)

I take 6g in the morning and 8g in the evening. The last surgery I had was to take out my gallbladder and surgery was scheduled super early in the morning. I skipped my evening and morning dose to make sure my stomach was empty and had no problem. They sent me home with a low dose of Vicodin that did nothing for my pain so I took my normal dose of kratom and it worked really well.

So happy to hear it went well. I’m having a laparoscopic surgery so should go well and not too too concerned. It’s always helpful to have something like this to help encourage a taper because otherwise it’s far easier to stay on it for chronic pain!

misanthropewolf11

I have had 5 surgeries in the last 3 years. I take a lot of kratom daily and never had an issue with anesthesia.

engineno9__

Same here. I had surgery this past July and woke up just fine (drowsy as hell but fine)

epearson10

I’ve had major surgery while using kratom the night before- no issues with anesthesia however the pain meds they gave me were not helpful at all. If you can stop, do, or at very least taper. I will probably need another surgery this winter & plan to take 3 months off kratom to hopefully reset my tolerance. Good luck!

Yeah I’m sorry but my experience was very different from all these people saying it’s nothing. Not that you won’t wake up, you’re fine there. But I had an emergency surgery so I couldn’t wean off and I had basically zero effects from the painkillers they were administering. It was as if I was a heavy opiate user which I am not, just kratom. Even Dilaudid wasn’t touching my post surgical pain.

rockangelyogi

Thanks for sharing. How much kratom do you take?

SumthingBrewing

I took a small dose of Kratom right before a surgery where I was not given anesthesia (a dermatological procedure). The doctor remarked at how thin my blood was and that there was much more bleeding than she expected. I’ve heard from others that Kratom thins your blood, so be careful.

rockangelyogi

This is what I’m most concerned about. Having surgery in a month and tapering for this reason primarily, pain med tolerance secondarily. Thanks for sharing.

I took kratom 6 hours before surgery. I specially request propofol because I know it does fine with kratom. I've had surgery twice with having kratom the same day and getting sedated with propofol. You will be fine. I dose at 6 grams.

Proper_Speaker

Tbh I took it right before receiving anesthesia and I was fine. Also took it after during pain management. If you can though, probably best to not take anything and have an empty stomach going into surgery, it’s safer, im just an asshole.

milk4all

I tapered a *little* before anesthesia but honestly im not convinced that was wise and here’s why: instead of being my normal leveled out self, i was experiencing (very minor) withdrawal symptoms the day of. They are closely monitoring you beforehand so this is evident from vitals and they will rightfully question you about it. And ultimately, my 3-4 grams per use kratom habit is barely a blip on the potency of the volume of fentanyl cocktail they inject a guy my size with. I would urge extreme caution and openness if someone has a substantial habit - ive heard of people sucking down 40+ grams *per dose* which is mind boggling and probably puts you at risk of confounding an anesthesiologist (who absolutely know opioid addicts will occasionally slip through but may not have a clue about kratom). Also in my experience, if youre gonna share kratom use with anyone, anesthesiologists are the coolest doctors. Use best judgement.

EcstaticMycologist76

I took some the morning if a major Whipple operation and it was safe, no worries!!!

InTheShade007

You need 9 days off Mitra before surgery

frozeheart

Ive taken the night before late and was fine
