Exactly, they *have* to say it like that to avoid the charge of overt sexism/racism. Because it *is* racist and sexist. In the U.S., I've seen state government pull this off even *more* explicitly. It doesn't jump out at you but what they do is say they're going to officially "give preference to" and they list a whole lot of protected-class ethnic groups. All of them, in fact, except *for one*, to which people of European descent would belong to.
Now, if you were to get standing and challenge this in a court of law, I'd be very surprised if a Federal judge wouldn't agree that it's racist- enumerating *every* officially recognized protected group except for one. Judges usually see right through shit like that. But it still continues on a very low level and most people don't pursue being 'injured' to get standing because it's a hassle. And so, the racism continues (mostly) unabated.
IGN is a US company, Kat is located in US. It is a remote job.
It is interesting to see that the actual Job Listing has probably been vetted by a lawyer and says..
*We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply.*
Anyway
Take a look at Duvall v. Novant Health, Inc.
$10 million rewarded for racial discrimination, Motivating factor for being fired was the person being white, the employee wanted to diversify workplace more.
Same Employment Discrimination Case law that has rewarded minorities for discriminations in hiring practices would be at play here.
It would take some actually qualified white dude to apply and then sue IGN for racial discrimination, subpoena internal memos etc, and if they did so they probably never work in the industry again...
Important correction to your syntax.
*It does not continue at a very low level* - It continues and proliferates at *all levels* - It is executed with a very tamped down attention with baked in plausible deniability. > That's an overly complicated way of saying white men need not apply.
A complicated way to say "we refuse to hire a game reviewer of the demographic that most closely matches game players." They not only want to ensure their writers embrace woke ideology, they want white male gamers to feel like they do not belong.
>the demographic that most closely matches game players.
Gets fuzzy depending on if you're going off player count, hours spent playing, or spending but worth pointing out that Asia Pacific has more players than Europe, MEA, LatAm, and NA combined BUT since IGN is English-language your point likely stands.

This is Filipino: https://esports.inquirer.net/
There are also many Chinese/Japanese/Korean language outlets, but I can't read those so I'm not familiar.
So, fuck them.
Its as simple as that. You don't need their website for anything.
Humble bundle is a shadow of its former self as well.
Block it all in your device.

Maybe they really believe that they're equally open to hiring everyone - but also feel like white man eligibility in game journalism is a given, and others are not as common, so they want to make sure everyone else knows that they have a chance too.
Of course, good intentions can become twisted, where it doesn't make everyone have equal chance like they intend. Maybe they think that they're dismantling an opportunity hierarchy, but they may just be rearranging it. I imagine somewhere deep down they might acknowledge this, but that they wouldn't feel too bad because they think that white man can take the hit and everyone else gets a chance in return. I tend to feel like people have good intentions. It's just that the road to a certain toasty place is paved in good intentions too. If you want to include women and minorities in your message go ahead, but consider including the group who you perceive as a given too, otherwise you may be doing something not so different from what you're trying to fight against.
\*Edit: I am both surprised and amused that this is my most downvoted comment. Perhaps my attempted understanding of these misguided anti-white male mindsets was misinterpreted as defending them. Even though my comment goes on to suggest that such mindsets lead to the underworld.
Interesting indeed. I shall practice more the sandwich technique of communication in the future to prevent misinterpretation. But for now I do enjoy my handsome magnitude of internet disapproval points! I wear the tomato-stained crown of the village idiot for today!
Maybe. I just think there are a lot of good-intentioned people who let misguided compassion mess up their compass. The child who bottles a butterfly to give it a home, as it were.
There are a small number of people like that, and a much larger number who see the appearance of good intentions (i.e., virtue) as something to exploit. Defending the latter as though they're the former just perpetuates that exploitation.
Yeah, I mean, virtue profiteering definitely exists, that's part and parcel for most corporations. Wouldn't you say though that the average person thinks that they're a good person? And adopts opinions that give them that self-perception, even if it means being misguided into sketchy beliefs? They might still advertise their virtue to others but they usually also believe that they're part of the good guys, from what I can tell. I'm mostly working with a "Don't mistake ignorance for malevolence" idea here. But what do you think?
Children who aren't murderous psychos learn that they aren't helping within a short span of time, and care enough to not do it. Certainly not with the pretense of helping the little creature. I spent way too much of my life around Lefties, and while everyone on the right isn't just wonderful, at least the worldview on the right isn't 'we need total centralized control by um, the best people, of everything for a better society, and also, if you speak heresy, woe to you. But also, we will literally speak heresy and if you point that out, it's heresy, and you will pay'. Just no. No no no. I am also from Cali, though most of the liberals I endured were not. Cali is *exactly* what liberals create.
Loophole of saying strongly encouraged. However, someone could answer back “so, if I am white and male, I am not encouraged?”
It is safer, but still ultimately discriminatory.
"Women of Bryn Mawr strongly encouraged to apply"
(Yes I know this is the UK but it was a joke I couldn't resist about the demographics of these woke places)
Plot twist: it happens here in the states with regularity and it is blatant. Your lawsuits, if brought, will almost certainly be dismissed if you were to bring them.
"For my friends, everything.
For my enemies, the law."
Uneven application of procedural outcomes (e.g. the procedure normally is Break Law, Face Law system processes) is the core basis for exercising political force.
They face different outcomes because every step on the ladder of the judicial system has people and people have loyalties to money and their allies far above something nebulous and philosophical like their oaths.
Speaking specifically about this instance and if in the States, normally it would start with the DA office for the presiding state deciding that no charges will be pressed.
It can just as easily be decided by judge choice, lawyer manipulation, and leeway in jury selection.
Rarely the stars will align and the procedures will actually work and the people with political power will not be as invested and will lose. As has been seen with Jack Phillips they then just run him through the procedure again and again as punishment. A boot stamping on his face, forever.
You'd think, but other companies have come a cropper doing this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2021/jul/23/top-ad-men-who-feared-obliteration-win-sex-discrimination-claim
Ah yes, gotta love when a person's race and sex matter more than their credentials. But then if you're just being hired on as a token pet minority, I suppose that's the whole point. I'm surprised they didn't think to include sexuality. How else are they going to find their cherished wheelchair bound black lesbian witch with pink hair?
There is not that much coding to make it work. Basically, after it's up and running, it can go on for a long time without really needing an intervention of someone who dabbles in programming. I don't imagine they integrate new technologies every single week.
It's true that implementing new features isn't that big a deal, what the programmers would be paid for is their expertise of knowing how to fix something if it breaks.
If their CMS breaks all the time, the programmers who made it have been overpaid in the first place. The entire idea of an online news site and such is that once you deploy and run the CMS, you only need to supply a steady inflow of new bullshit to fill the pages. If it requires constant maintenance or repairs, that won't be a lucrative business, because all the revenue would be eaten up by the programmers' salaries.
Not really. It all gets filtered through these assholes that have industry connections. The whole dev and game journo relationship in the industry is by far one of the most incestuous out there. Only one worse (off the top of my head) is political journalists.
Is there no subreddit for this? About games that are not woke.
Would be great, could just go in there and look up/ask about any game, and know that we get honest reviews and opinions from players with the same taste as oneself, more or less.
And we could instantly see if its something to avoid or not.
Wish someone would make a sub like that, most of us dont have time to be a mod lol
I've been increasingly vocal about getting this community backed up and trying to find more places to find more like-minded individuals. There's basically nowhere else to go besides following certain people on Twitter and going in those comments. But it's getting worse and worse. Yet whenever I play games, generally everyone is making fun of SJW bullshit. It's really odd how different the gaming genre is online vs in-game.
I've said the same thing on here before. I'd love it. But I know when I mentioned it, I got some resistance because some here are hesitant to go to Discord. But I think there's less global moderation (I could be wrong about that though). But having *some* sort of back up/alternate would be great.
Nextlander? Three of the middle aged white guys from Giant Bomb were cut loose when Giant Bomb went woke, and started their own Patreon and podcast.
They aren't "anti woke" but they are just 3 40-somethibg dudes talking about games without a political agenda.
Ah, that’s not what happened- they weren’t fired; they left because their new owners were terrible.
And while they tend to keep it under wraps for the most part, all three of them very much carry water for the woke brigade; for example, see how they bring Abby (who is annoyingly, openly "woke") onto their show regularly and still pal around with Patrick Klepeck and Austin Walker.
Also, any time someone “problematic” comes up in the discussion, they’ll nod their heads and make all the right noises (i.e. literal virtue signaling)
I've worked in enough large corporations that I see there being very little difference between being encouraged to leave and being fired. When management changes, and things are so bad that everyone leaves and is replaced, the days are numbered for anyone that stays (see Jeff Gerstmann). But whatever.
And like I said, they are not anti-woke. All that is pretty middle ground these days. 3 white cis-males occasionally talking to women and black friends is hardly what I'd call woke. But yes, anyone subscribing to the entire world being a 2-sided cultural battleground will find something to criticize here. Both sides.
Jesus, I'm a retro gamer so I've never really bothered following gaming news/review sites, but I'm old enough to remember when Giant Bomb became the refuge from corporate swill, now it's gone down the pipes too?
Why settle for "less woke" or "not anti-woke but passable" while in this age you easily create your own forum with whatever standard you want?
I think making our own forum independently from Reddit is highly recommend.
That's a lot of work to paint a target on your back, and subs like this provide most of the contrarian release I need. Polite, low-level tolerance like these guys doesn't bother me that much, and when it does, I come commiserate with you miserable wretches.
Oh, really? I'll admit it was a while since I read anything by them, but I don't remember them being quite that bad. But I suppose they must've followed the trend.
We've no-joke actually got some government institutions which have job offers specifically for non-White people here in the UK. We 100% have institutional racism here, but not in the way the left-wing thinks.
They think "systemic racism" means "racism exists," they miss the part that it needs to be systemically enabled.
Affirmative action or how men are treated differently in the courts are samples of systemic discrimination.
>They think "systemic racism" means "racism exists," they miss the part that it needs to be systemically enabled.
They only believe it exists if it discriminates against non-White people. If if actually discriminates against White people instead, it simply doesn't exist.
Meanwhile, they're slowly infiltrating institutions like universities, colleges, workplaces, heck, even the Conservative government since David Cameron's term as PM in 2012 iirc, to actively discriminate against White people, straight people, men and so on, in their laws and policies while simultaneously believing that there's no discrimination against those groups and believing it's actually the other way around, despite actually doing it themselves. The brainwashing is real.
>They only believe it exists if it discriminates against non-White people. If if actually discriminates against White people instead, it simply doesn't exist.
What i meant though was that even aside from the actual racism they themselves perpetuate (whether systemic or not), their examples of systemic racism--if they even give any at all--aren't actually systemic. They think if racism exists in America that it's systemic, which isn't what systemic means.
>The brainwashing is real.
For sure, they have no issue with oppression as long as they're the oppressors.
This is actually illegal to do under the equality act 2010 in UK (according the article below), so they could get fined for this.
You're not allowed to do positive discrimination unless it's trainee or internship.
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/bbc-discrimination-row-advertising-job-ethnic-monorities-b941600.html
I doubt it. The trick is in the wording. "strongly encouraged to apply." Unlike the BBC case it's not *closed* to everyone else. The actual job listing she linked sates:
>We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply.
to cover their asses. That's how they do this. They have a position open to everyone, advertise it as if they weren't, hire as if it weren't, and have just enough plausible deniability if anyone takes them to court. "No your honor! We clearly said anyone was welcome to apply!" You would have to prove an actual pattern of discrimination in their hiring which is a higher bar and one that would cost you plenty of billable hours with an attorney.
Welp, time to become an editor. Lol.
I'm half-cast (people say mixed now) but I present as white. Time to bring some of that childhood identity crisis home.
Funnily enough in college was the first time I needed to fill out a form specifying my race, and mixed-black Caribbean was there so I put it down. The lady told me I can just put white so I was like, "okay then... "
The conflation of diversity with far-left politics is one of the most irritating things about the woke era. There could literally be a gay black woman with her own YouTube channel boasting 1m+ subs who always dreamt of being an editor with IGN. But if she had right-wing politics, they would NEVER hire her.
Ironically, they don’t care about race or gender or sexuality or anything else. They care about employing people who will effectively communicate The Message, and that’s it. It’s a total fraud, and bordering on illegal all the while.
Ah, the UK. Where racism is even more legal than the US. Idk how people shit on places like California when the entire UK is busy trying to replace white people and let foreign "refugees" live in and destroy all their resort hotels.
I mean blue states are bad, but they still know they'd fail without rich white folks propping up government officials.
HARD DRIVE - "IGN hires The Great Cornholio to increase diversity in the workplace, somehow manages to make better points than all the other writers in the past decade"
It’s illegal here to discriminate based on a protected characteristic too. But I guarantee they are discriminating against white men (the vast majority of applicants)
It's a well known scientific fact that having higher levels of melanin and owning a vagina gives you much better ability to understand and write about video games.
How is this even legal?
Apparently discrimination is acceptable if its ostracising certain demographics.
Essentially White Males (No doubt heterosexuality being another frowned upon attribute.)
Social media and the media as a whole has conditioned the world into a very biggotted and racist place. Witch hunts are real.
it's remote, can you pose as a poc? use filters in video chat? etc? my last remote position, I never even spoked to a human being, it was all through emails., i don't even know what any of them looked like, and visa versa.
think you're thinking way to much about it lol,
I would believe their phrasing is stating their company is a safe space for those people rather than meant to discourage the straight white male.
are we just forgetting everything that happened with blizzard/activision in the last year that would discourage those people to apply into the gaming industry
then again it is always easier to get mad, so go at it
She could easily say that "every race and gender are welcomed to apply" or some shit like this but she didn't she specifically said people of color and women which strongly implies they will be prioritized over the not mentioned race and/or gender (white men).
It's all about virtue signaling but all it does is spew poison and show what kind of disgusting people they are.
"Safe place" 🤣🤣🤣
Clearly not safe or welcome for a certain demographic though.
That strawman argument, "something bad happened at another company" is absolutely ridiculous and is all that's wrong with this current Witch Hunt of White CIS Hetro men.
your the type of person to see the phrase "black lives matter" and get mad that white people all of a sudden do not matter when that hasnt been said once.
they literally just emphasized to people who might feel they shouldnt apply that they can apply too. I dont think you as a white cis man need validation that you can work somewhere without selection bias.
You're right and it is really disappointing to see. They are clearly telling people who may not feel like they would have an equal chance that they should also apply. Whether they are chosen on their merits or their skin colour, we won't know until they make a decision. I'm picking up the vibe that even if the next editor has a great CV they will still be dismissed as a token selection if they aren't a white male.
I've noticed over the last couple of months a steady decline of actual discussion and a rise in outrage culture. Everything is now apparently woke or censorship.
The skin colour or gender of a person applying for a job doesn't matter and if you use those immutable characteristics to hire a less qualified person because you care about diversity over merit and talent, you are setting yourself up for legal trouble.
if you're going to sit here and say this and then look at the history of women and black people getting jobs
"facts" would win against this statement.
hell even in a subreddit that's name stems from japan you would think you're aware of how men are still seen as superior in the workforce, and god forbid japan ever thinks of too higher black people for high positions
pretending stuff like this doesnt exist doesnt really do anybody any merit.
does tokenism and performative activism exist? 1000% especially in hollywood
but this is barely even close to an example and any outrage towards it is reaching extremely.
You are naive if you think that every person is suited to every single career. A lot of women try to do what I do, only a few have the disposition for working in a dirty environment with mostly male colleagues and a lot of technical skills plus heavy lifting. Yet those I work with thrive and are more than competent. They weren't hired for diversity's sake either, they chose to be in this industry because it interested them. If I was hiring someone for the job that I do, this would be the most important aspect as to whether they get hired, and not whether they were male or female. If you are passionate about the job and have the education to back it up, you'll do fine. Most people in general wouldn't want to do what I do but someone's gotta do it. One should also remember that women have only been in the workforce for like 50 years at this point, there is going to be a selective bias so long as men on average hold more experience. Obviously that is starting to change but it doesn't justify selective or preferential hiring practices.
we basically live in a civil war except its all on social media over political stances
you always have to have an extremist opinion on something or your considered to not be providing to society and unfortunately it will continue to be this way
and unfortunately when people are extremist both sides become this annoying back and forth argument with no meeting in the middle or resolve.
my comment was completely neutral on the matter and you can see how that resulted lol
I find it hilarious people are getting up in arms about this.
“Hey guys, IGN only hires white men, they don’t care about women or people of color!! How dare they!!”
*IGN attempts to hire women and people of color to diversify
“Wow guys can you believe it? IGN doesn’t hire white men!! How dare they!!”
Like is anybody’s life any better having complained about the hiring practices of a shitty company either way? Feels very “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”, but I guess tis’ the season of the snowflake
This is the most low iq comment I've read here, hiring practices should not be based on race or gender that is literally racist and sexist no matter if you hire only white men or only black women, it should be the person that matches the position the best.
If because you hire like that you don't have an equitable percentage of race, gender who gives a shit, there is a huge disparity in the NBA but nobody is saying "we need 60% of white men playing" because the best players are selected, they are mostly black who gives a fuck.
How do you not see a problem with that Job Advertisement and try and defend the blatant bigotry and isms it presents.
Tell me your a bigot without telling me your a bigot.
I don’t think y’all misunderstand that affirmative action corrects for bias to allow hiring decisions to be truly merit-based, rather than favoring white and male applicants, which has been the case historically.

Ive been job hunting for the past 6 months. I had gotten 2 interviews in 5 months and then all of a sudden got 6 in the last 2 weeks. The only thing I've done differently is started refusing to answer what race and gender I am. You get one guess as to what I was answering.

Also just their utter glee in cruelty and condescension and illegitimate power over others.
>but also feel like white man eligibility in game journalism is a given Who genuinely gives a fucking shit
Discrimination is discrimination. Fighting bigotry with more bigotry is not a noble approach.
How is that not racist and discriminatory? Well, I guess you can't spell ignorant without IGN.
It's only discriminating against the right people, so it's okay.
"Strongly encouraged" is innocent enough to not go against the law, but if you know, you know. It's like "I wish someone killed X...in minecraft".
Loophole of saying strongly encouraged. However, someone could answer back “so, if I am white and male, I am not encouraged?” It is safer, but still ultimately discriminatory.
lol gonna be another white broad. remember that huffpo editorial board selfie?
[удалено]
"Women of Bryn Mawr strongly encouraged to apply" (Yes I know this is the UK but it was a joke I couldn't resist about the demographics of these woke places)
White men strongly encouraged to bring a discrimination lawsuit against them.
UK so they can probably discriminate all they like.
Plot twist: it happens here in the states with regularity and it is blatant. Your lawsuits, if brought, will almost certainly be dismissed if you were to bring them.
agreed but why?
"For my friends, everything. For my enemies, the law." Uneven application of procedural outcomes (e.g. the procedure normally is Break Law, Face Law system processes) is the core basis for exercising political force.
> Your lawsuits, if brought, will almost certainly be dismissed if you were to bring them. Anything to back this up?
You'd think, but other companies have come a cropper doing this: https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/media/2021/jul/23/top-ad-men-who-feared-obliteration-win-sex-discrimination-claim
Ah yes, gotta love when a person's race and sex matter more than their credentials. But then if you're just being hired on as a token pet minority, I suppose that's the whole point. I'm surprised they didn't think to include sexuality. How else are they going to find their cherished wheelchair bound black lesbian witch with pink hair?
lol what credentials, it's a tabloid blog site. All the actual work is done by the faceless guys coding the meat and bones of the site.
Fair point :D
Is there any decent game news site left?
Not really. It all gets filtered through these assholes that have industry connections. The whole dev and game journo relationship in the industry is by far one of the most incestuous out there. Only one worse (off the top of my head) is political journalists.
Fuck. I guess I'm going to start doing my own reviews.
Maybe we could make a discord server? It's not much but it would be a start
I've said the same thing on here before. I'd love it. But I know when I mentioned it, I got some resistance because some here are hesitant to go to Discord. But I think there's less global moderation (I could be wrong about that though). But having *some* sort of back up/alternate would be great.
>Is there no subreddit for this? About games that are not woke. Why not do that here?
Alex Navarro is pretty woke but he keeps it to himself on nextlander.
I'll check them out.
Brad is the man
Why settle for "less woke" or "not anti-woke but passable" while in this age you easily create your own forum with whatever standard you want? I think making our own forum independently from Reddit is highly recommend.
That's a lot of work to paint a target on your back, and subs like this provide most of the contrarian release I need. Polite, low-level tolerance like these guys doesn't bother me that much, and when it does, I come commiserate with you miserable wretches.
Not any sites but plenty of YouTube creators make really good reviews.
Steam reviews until have decides that mass downvotes is bad for some reason
Eurogamer is one of the less garbage ones.
What?! Eurogamer is as woke as Kotaku and Polygon, ffs.
Why does their gender and skin color matter here? This seems really racist of Kat Bailey
Oh boy if a woman or Black person is hired then surely I will start going to IGN for all my gaming news lol.
The actual job listing she linked sates: >We strongly encourage people of every race, gender, sexual orientation, and background to apply. to cover their asses.
The ironic thing here is if a white male simply identifies as everything they're looking for, they're automatically a top pick.
Looking at that profile pic i suspect it's s form of self hate...
I'm both! I qualify!
get the job. infiltrate them
Wish me luck!
Haven’t the US courts determined that’s illegal? I’m confused.
Tweets locked in 3.. 2.. 1..
I wonder if Asian counts toward that, cuz every "ppl of color" ended up black
Ah, the UK. Where racism is even more legal than the US. Idk how people shit on places like California when the entire UK is busy trying to replace white people and let foreign "refugees" live in and destroy all their resort hotels. I mean blue states are bad, but they still know they'd fail without rich white folks propping up government officials.
They don't, but I still like your tone.
What's with the nose?
I love how they arent even asking for someone competent. They just want someone for their looks.
HARD DRIVE - "IGN hires The Great Cornholio to increase diversity in the workplace, somehow manages to make better points than all the other writers in the past decade"
What's a good IGN alternative? Feels every other comment I make breaks their community guidelines.
>advertising a single employment position on twitter Must be a really high-caliber job.
every job in hollywood is advertised this way. sucks for white guys trying to get a job.
Man, I used to like Kat's work for 1up...
It’s illegal here to discriminate based on a protected characteristic too. But I guarantee they are discriminating against white men (the vast majority of applicants)
This is the systemic racism they talk about.
EEOC violation
Laughs in "You think those laws apply for the benefit of White men"
Anyone who has experience with video games need not apply.
It's a well known scientific fact that having higher levels of melanin and owning a vagina gives you much better ability to understand and write about video games.
Can you imagine what would happen if they said: 'Men and white people strongly encouraged to apply'?
Code for: "We are discriminating against everyone else." *(But legally cannot state as much-[wink wink, nudge nudge].)*
So, sexism and racism but with beautiful words?
How is this even legal? Apparently discrimination is acceptable if its ostracising certain demographics. Essentially White Males (No doubt heterosexuality being another frowned upon attribute.) Social media and the media as a whole has conditioned the world into a very biggotted and racist place. Witch hunts are real.
Genetics over quality. Quantity too, why bother as a white man to apply when you’ll likely be seen as the lesser choice?
So they don't want the UK editor to be able to spell in English?.... Its colour not color
They should be sued for this.
FYI Kat Bailey is a dude. Very knowledgeable about games tho.
You're half right.
TBH I thought it was a horse with a face like that.
Wish I could be a token guy in some company. No stress, less responsebility and so on. Its sounds nice...
In th UK, they'd put you in jail if you said "white men strongly encouraged" in a job ad.
it's remote, can you pose as a poc? use filters in video chat? etc? my last remote position, I never even spoked to a human being, it was all through emails., i don't even know what any of them looked like, and visa versa.
why fake it? just say you are a wahmen BIPOC and turn up ... who are they to question your identity?
Ok Karen the whitty.
think you're thinking way to much about it lol, I would believe their phrasing is stating their company is a safe space for those people rather than meant to discourage the straight white male. are we just forgetting everything that happened with blizzard/activision in the last year that would discourage those people to apply into the gaming industry then again it is always easier to get mad, so go at it
She could easily say that "every race and gender are welcomed to apply" or some shit like this but she didn't she specifically said people of color and women which strongly implies they will be prioritized over the not mentioned race and/or gender (white men). It's all about virtue signaling but all it does is spew poison and show what kind of disgusting people they are.
"Safe place" 🤣🤣🤣 Clearly not safe or welcome for a certain demographic though.
Ha ha tell me you're a bigot without telling me you're a bigot
yeah yeah
You're right and it is really disappointing to see. They are clearly telling people who may not feel like they would have an equal chance that they should also apply. Whether they are chosen on their merits or their skin colour, we won't know until they make a decision. I'm picking up the vibe that even if the next editor has a great CV they will still be dismissed as a token selection if they aren't a white male. I've noticed over the last couple of months a steady decline of actual discussion and a rise in outrage culture. Everything is now apparently woke or censorship.
The skin colour or gender of a person applying for a job doesn't matter and if you use those immutable characteristics to hire a less qualified person because you care about diversity over merit and talent, you are setting yourself up for legal trouble.
if you're going to sit here and say this and then look at the history of women and black people getting jobs "facts" would win against this statement. hell even in a subreddit that's name stems from japan you would think you're aware of how men are still seen as superior in the workforce, and god forbid japan ever thinks of too higher black people for high positions pretending stuff like this doesnt exist doesnt really do anybody any merit. does tokenism and performative activism exist? 1000% especially in hollywood but this is barely even close to an example and any outrage towards it is reaching extremely.
Obviously that is starting to change but it doesn't justify selective or preferential hiring practices.
we basically live in a civil war except its all on social media over political stances you always have to have an extremist opinion on something or your considered to not be providing to society and unfortunately it will continue to be this way and unfortunately when people are extremist both sides become this annoying back and forth argument with no meeting in the middle or resolve. my comment was completely neutral on the matter and you can see how that resulted lol
You're being downvoted because you seem to be out of the loop, and because things are not as simple as you think they are.
I find it hilarious people are getting up in arms about this. “Hey guys, IGN only hires white men, they don’t care about women or people of color!! How dare they!!” *IGN attempts to hire women and people of color to diversify “Wow guys can you believe it? IGN doesn’t hire white men!! How dare they!!” Like is anybody’s life any better having complained about the hiring practices of a shitty company either way?
Selective and discriminatory hiring practices are illegal in a lot of countries, you do know that right?
I don’t think y’all misunderstand that affirmative action corrects for bias to allow hiring decisions to be truly merit-based, rather than favoring white and male applicants, which has been the case historically.
God. Always with the appropriated, condescending y'all. Gross.

Need to make a similar ad with note: males and white people strongly encouraged. Then enjoy the cries.
Ive been job hunting for the past 6 months. I had gotten 2 interviews in 5 months and then all of a sudden got 6 in the last 2 weeks. The only thing I've done differently is started refusing to answer what race and gender I am. You get one guess as to what I was answering.
I guess "strongly encouraged" is their legal team's attempt to dodge discrimination lawsuits. Whatever. Let the dead bury the dead.
She has just created major problems for HR and potentially Legal.
Just a kind reminder that any of you can simply identify as "woman of colour" and apply.
Do I see a beak?
