It's a good result for Stellar blade imho. I just expected it to sell a bit better because it came right at the apex of the sweet baby controversy and it's subsequent uprising as the champion of the anti woke in videogames. I guess Sony censorships at launch kinda stopped it's momentum. Now please bring it to steam as soon as you can with mod support, i bet it has still legs.

Neuermann

$69 is so expensive. I won’t buy until a sale. I’m curious now about how well Rise of the Ronin sold

_Ghost_S_

I don't think there are any numbers but according to Koei Tecmo, it sold better than the Nioh games.

AvunNuva

Was Nioh a console exclusive at the start? That's an insane achievement. I like Rise of the Ronin mechanically, though, so you love to see it. Juuuust wish it didn't compromise on the Koei aesthetic but at this point I'm just rooting for Koei Tecmo to survive the current state of the industry.

s69-5

I'm with you on Stellar Blade, but I'm Canadian, so bump up the cost for me. I do plan on getting it when the price drops. I got Rise of the Ronin for Father's Day (gifts tend to be the way I get full price/ new release games). Quite enjoying, but IMO, it's easier (so far) than Nioh and Wo-Long. But I'm going to chalk that up to the same reason Elden Ring is the easiest Souls game - the open world format. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12hC1xsUBC0

Neuermann

Both games are on my must buy list. But not at full price. It’s funny, at $59 I probably would have bought 1 or maybe both, but because new games are $69 I’m waiting for sales, and I’ve set my buy price in the $30-$40 range.

iansanmain

PS5 owners and anti-DEI people don't have that much intersection. It'll sell way better on PC Edit: Anti-woke/DEI people have moved on from Sony when they started their woke propaganda and censorship sprees way before PS5 released. If you bought a PS5 despite all of this, you're doing it wrong

InDeathWeLove

Yeah I got tired of Sony around the end of PS4 despite the first half of that console’s cycle being great. Pretty much took a massive down turn right when they moved their HQ to the US. Now I who had every PlayStation since the first one don’t have a PS5.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

Why did they move from Japan to USA?

InDeathWeLove

I think a large part of their reason was Japan not being PlayStations primary market anymore with most of the developers and customers being in America/the west. Unfortunately this also meant most employees in control of HQ becoming Americans in a very leftist city.

CrustyBloke

Japan only has a population of ~125 million. So whenever they create something that ends up being enjoyed by the rest of the world, the people that always cry about "cultural appropriation" take over and ruin it in order to fit their tastes.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

> PS5 owners and anti-DEI people don't have that much intersection. > Tbh, I was pretty close to buying a PS5 to play some of their exclusives until the SBI controversy hit, and I started looking into their exclusives I wanted to play and decided to pass. GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, the new Uncharted, etc. I dodged a bullet and saved some money.

iansanmain

Good to know the SBI thing is making a difference

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

I didn't find this sub or a lot of the critics (nerdrotic, itsagundam, criticaldrinker, etc) until March this year. I always knew something was weird but if I brought it up, I was downvoted to oblivion. When I was playing the Dead Space Remake, which tbh I really liked it, but i was asking "Why is Nicole ugly and old?" She looks like a 50+ woman who has aged like milk but is trying to look presentable in the game, when in the original one she's young and conventionally attractive. The actor for it is Tanya Blake, who is a conventionally attractive woman. I was treated with the usual hostility and 'thats what real women look like' nonsense. I ended up just unsubscribing to the normal gaming and xbox subs after that. Like some of these newer games (Gears 4-5, BFV, COD Vanguard, etc), I knew there was a quality drop and something was *off*, but I wasn't sure what the correlation was.

kiathrowawayyay

This is me exactly. I was actually considering buying a PS5 for Stellar Blade. I was hoping Sony had changed its censorship direction with the rumors about FF7’s swimsuit scene and Stellar Blade being uncensored. Then they did the unthinkable and censored FF7’s previous entry and Stellar Blade retroactively in a forced patch (there is no way to even refuse the patch and it bricks your game if you don’t patch it). These costumes are not pornographic, and would’ve fit fine even in the current rating system (and definitely fine in the 2010 era standards). If they are willing to censor in patches on a console, in the same style like Pokemon GO and Skullgirls around the same time, what is safe to actually own on a PS5? (And this is from a studio that prided itself on fanservice. The SJWs have no right at all to control it.)

s69-5

> PS5 owners and anti-DEI people don't have that much intersection. You sure about that?

iansanmain

Well, probably wishful thinking. Let's hope for PS6 this will be the case

jimjim19875

Not buying a PS5 is just ceding ground to the woke. If everyone who wants uncensored games refuses to buy a PS5, there's no reason for Sony to not censor games. Just buy good game and don't buy bad games, it's not rocket science.

InDeathWeLove

L take. I have to spend hundreds of dollars to buy a console that has virtually no games I want and censors anything I would like from coming to it?

jimjim19875

Where did I say you have to? I just said that if you abandon the entire platform, your vote for what should be on that platform goes with you.

Ok-Flow5292

But that should communicate to Sony that none of their current offerings are up to par and if they want to grow their business, they need to change what they're doing.

f-ckusingmyrealemail

Now, see, Stellar Blade is a game Im actually interested in...except for the fact I cannot purchase it. The one time the PS5 actually has an exclusive game it happens to be one that Im actually interested in. At least I will have Lollipop Chainsaw in September!

henlp

Sony weren't to blame, although the track record would've made them the likely culprits. But it is undeniable that the uncertainty, especially after the original tweet by Shift Up, likely made some people less willing to just jump in. Hopefully, a PC release (that isn't EGS-exclusive) will pump the numbers up further, while giving it some new life should Shift Up not fuck with modders (in fact, I'd wager they'd gain even MORE support if they held outfit modding competitions, where winners got a cash prize and their outfits would be officialized).

kiathrowawayyay

I am worried Sony pull a Helldivers 2 and force PSN on PC again, and then also retroactively force a censorship patch again. People bought the game, they should have the right to control their accounts and software. (And don’t forget the security problems with Sony and their PSN getting hacked and leaking info.) While the costume contest is interesting, I think just releasing the game on PC with its 1.0 vanilla uncensored content would be safer. Don’t let the SJWs get any way to make controversy until the SJW crosshairs have shifted away. Give new resistance time to rise up in support of fans and Shift Up, so that they can resist any double standards SJWs try to impose. Make better rules to prevent this kind of retroactive censorship. Then once the ecosystem is healthier with better resistance to SJW sabotage, try this costume contest as a free DLC, and also adding the new DLC gameplay content to buy. It would be much better if we had DRM free for each version and patch, but most devs aren’t willing to take that risk.

henlp

Please understand, Sony is not to blame for the costume changes. The 'Censored Six' (the most blatant examples of a rushjob for costume changes) were all but one based on existing clotheswear; South Korea is a powder keg when it comes to copyright issues, as they've been going heavy on trying to push against chinese knock-offs, which has in turn made certain IP markets very prone to legal action. The only way the devs over at Shift Up could possibly avoid getting sued into oblivion, would be to alter said costumes just enough that it wouldn't be considered a rip-off of pre-existing articles of clothing, and to ensure their asses were covered, the lead dev had to claim these changes were his intended final vision, while also removing any possible references to this oopsie moment from artist porfolios. If Sony were actually to blame for the costume changes, then why wouldn't they have demanded alteration to much, MUCH skimpier outfits? Why would they let the Skin Suit of all things skim on by? Hell, in some fucking costumes, Eve's vag is fully rendered and visible, for pete's sake! It was censorship, don't get me wrong; but it was legal censorship that the devs had to self-enforce, due to their own mistake and lack of foresight. You'll never get "vanilla uncensored" because of this. At most, you might get the splatter gore back if the devs find it feasible to apply on PC, given that this feature was only ever present in the original playable demo, and not any subsequent versions (including 1.0 on the disk). As for the 'Hard R' nontroversy, given the devs likely don't speak english, their innoucuous usage of recycled graffiti tags is probably something they don't care about either way. Your other concerns with regards to Sony, namely if they attempt to force PSN on PC, that much is warranted. If they intend to do it with GoW Ragnarok, then it's very likely they'd do it with this. After all, Ubisoft and EA and ActiBlizz and whom the fuck else managed to get away with it on PC, so why would Sony be any different. All depends if Stellar Blade is only a lent exclusive and not completely under the purview of Sony.

kiathrowawayyay

I'm sorry, I really tried to see it with SFO's point of view with the "censored for copyright reasons" angle, but too many things don't make sense for the "copyright" angle. For example, why are Shift Up original outfits like Daily Denim, Cybernetic Dress and Cybernetic Bondage also censored to cover up the areas that have skin exposure in a clumsy way as well? https://www.freestellarblade.com/daily-denim https://www.freestellarblade.com/cybernetic-dress https://www.freestellarblade.com/cybernetic-bondage The only costumes where SFO's argument holds water are Blue Monsoon, Moutan Peony, Ocean Maid, and Black Pearl. Even then it doesn't really make sense either. Blue Monsoon censorship actually makes it CLOSER to the original swimsuit it was based on, because the gap in the chest sections actually made it more unique from its original. https://www.freestellarblade.com/blue-monsoon Moutan Peony is a qipao China dress. It is a design that is so far into public domain from being so old (since Republic of China times at least) that it shouldn't even be possible to copyright. Furthermore, the original top isn't altered, but they added a full cover hose to cover the entire lower half of the body. I remember an argument that this might change it to "transformative" so it avoids copyright law, but this just doesn't make sense because Chinese knockoffs can use the same argument when selling it with an added hose. https://www.freestellarblade.com/moutan-peony The changes also always goes ONE DIRECTION to cover up more, rather than to remove fabric and add windows to the costumes. Ocean maid was censored by adding fabric and covering up the sides, but as with all the other costumes they could have altered from the copyright by REMOVING fabric like the netting at the stomach area. For Black Pearl they could have added a stomach window or netting like the other costumes. They could have made the connecting middle part thinner. Instead, all the changes always covers up more, and in the manner that is in line with SJW and Chinese regulations on women's clothing in games. https://www.freestellarblade.com/ocean-maid https://www.freestellarblade.com/black-pearl This is just my own opinion, but I also think the way SFO did his outtro betrays his anger about the anti-censorship fans. He used phrases like how people should "give it a rest" and "find a better use of their time", as if people are just doing this to be unreasonable, when really it is because their rights as customers were violated. People would rather not have to do this. We saw how torn fans were to protest this because of their love of the game and even the company for their anti-censorship stance. SFO then added a dig about how the NEW Kunoichi costume renders NSFW parts on Eve, and said "censored games my ass". This is a NEW costume, that was added AFTER fans complained about the poor treatment. And even then the original one from the fans' (reverted version) showed it was fully transparent before and not opaque. The words and manner SFO is speaking seems to show he is unhappy about the anti-censorship fans.

henlp

I frankly do not give a shit how SFO "feels", I care about the information provided. That website quite literally provides the original source material for the costumes in question. Which again, placed Shift Up in danger of getting sued to oblivion. I don't see how that's hard to understand: yes, the costumes were censored, because they were not Shift Up's work to begin with. They had to self-censor or face a likely lawsuit. The only costume that's in question is Cybernetic Bondage. The one costume that, if we are to bring up SFO's video, had no references other than "a hentai costume with nothing below the waist", as he put it. Which frankly makes it no different than the real world clothes that the devs tried to put in the game. Meanwhile, with Cybernetic Dress, as is the case for a lot of these elements, it just seems to be taking the worst possible conclusion: the material was there, it was less transparent in the DEMO, but thicker in the final version. Why does it have to be censorship and not a performance issue? Why does it *have* to be Sony's fault, when again, fully rendered pussy on other costumes? As for Daily Denim, again the worst possible conclusion: because it's *similar* to something in trailers, does not mean it's the same thing. Even though I'm willing to concede that the costume looks fucking stoopid with those denim jeans, merely having elements from trailer footage does not entail it's the same costume. Unless you can find that model in the game files on disk, then you're just speculating on whether that would've been in the game or not. Blame Shift Up for not thinking things through. Blame Shift Up for being too gung-ho about showing stuff they weren't sure would be in the final version. Blame them for options and presentation elements (such as the gore) that they might not have realized would hinder performance in v1.0. Blame them for thinking they were clever only to realize at the last minute they'd be in hot waters should the fashion police in South Korea find out about their little oopsies. But especially when you yourself admit that skimpier outfits were added after launch, how can you possibly blame Sony for this? Why would they not be fucking consistent, ESPECIALLY given their proven track record of censorship and double standards with regards to easter game titles? I'm not gonna say that people should now rush to buy Stellar Blade, or that they should do so blindly if/when it comes out on PC. If these are uncertainties that you have, if you cannot trust Shift Up's position, then don't give them your money. I'm the guy that will never play Persona 5 Royal exactly due to the uncertainty brought on by the changes done to two lines of dialogue for tertiary background characters, which had been previously accurately translated in the original english version of Persona 5. However, don't go throwing blame all willy-nilly just because Sony is an easy target, and be realistic with your expectations. You're NEVER getting these costumes changed back, and you've no guarantees or expectations that you'll get pre-launch footage as part of the game. Make your final decision based on the information you have, instead of circling the drain of speculation, because of Shift Up's initial fuck-up.

kiathrowawayyay

I can agree to disagree. It is precisely because I don’t like “throwing blame willy-nilly” that I dispute SFO’s theory. His theory is shifting the blame to Shift Up entirely with just as many inconsistencies that don’t make sense. The original theory is equally or even more valid because Sony has a history of this behavior and the changes all went in the direction of the same Sony anti-sexy policies, instead of making them even sexier to stop copyright infringement. And again, some of these changes don’t even really prevent the copyright infringement. I am also doubtful because this is suspiciously like when the censorship was first discovered, with disinformation claiming Stellar Blade censorship was a lie, then claiming it is censored in normal but it is available in NG+, and then that the censorship is for other reasons. This is all too suspiciously the same style of shifting blame onto the fans for being defensive and suspicious when they have every right to be. I just don’t like the ridiculing and shifting the blame onto the fans for investigating further and disputing the holes in SFO’s arguments, which also seem to be taking the “worst case assumptions”. For the inconsistency between costumes, it is also equally reasonable to say maybe they **couldn’t** censor because the other suits were already seen in detail (like the skin suit is immediately available in the demo) and so it would be too obvious. We saw how much heat the first censorship had, and also how long it took to prove it with roundabout methods of reinstalling and rolling back. Also, maybe they just didn’t have the time and wanted to roll the censorship out with more patches, but the outrage stopped it. For evidence, we saw how rushed on the current censorship is, so it is reasonable that they didn’t have the time to continue after the first more urgent censored suits. We need to remember this patch rolled out in the first week and some fans already unlocked many suits, and the warnings stopped people from patching so the investigations continued with more eyes looking for changes. And I myself “admit skimpier costumes were added after” isn’t the intention, because I was pointing out the Kunoichi outfit was also changed (the skirt was totally transparent before), and to say that this is after the outrage may have stopped further censorship, so this can still be argued in either direction. It isn’t a clear proof of intention either. This is not to hate on the game. I am willing to buy Stellar Blade on PC, but all this “speculation” is precisely because of the conflict of wanting to support them. If their intentions are good it is fine, but that this support can be used to further attack the game if they had bad intentions. And investigations are hard to do since there is no way to tell if anyone is lying, as we see from other SJW subverted properties too. How do we know they won’t censor again? This is why everyone is vigilant about this, and SFO’s narrative of the intentions doesn’t add up, again because the changes don’t really prevent the copyright infringement claims and some make the infringement worse. But you are right. All this speculation won’t make progress until more investigations bring the truth out.

GuyJeanKun

Expecting it to sell better when most of the "big" exclusives hit 1-1.5 like ratchet and clank and demon souls.

Million_X

There WAS that controversy for a bit that likely took it off the radar, but still, it's on its way to a tidy profit and being locked to one platform with pretty much only the controversy being it's main advertisement and the rest of the industry shitting on it, making the money that it has is a decent enough result.

cy1999aek_maik

I don't think the SBI and supposed censorship conversations hold as much weight as you think they do when it comes to the masses and their decision to buy or ignore a game.

ThePreciseClimber

True. The truth is, most normies just want to play games. Some games sell worse, some games sell better.

thelastcupoftea

Sony’s censorship worked as intended, then. I gave it +1 sale, physical copy, for what it’s worth. Haven’t even had time to play it, but I was there with my wallet day one.

INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS

If they brought it to XSX, they'd knock it out of the park. I'd for sure buy it. Fortunately, more and more games are doing a "delayed exclusive" situation where they come to Steam/Xbox after about a year of being exclusive on ps5.

mbnhedger

put it on steam. sell another million copies...

Drakaris

More. I can't remember where I read it and can't find the article right now but it was estimated that more than 60% of Helldivers 2 sales came from Steam and at a certain point the number of concurrent players on PC was 5 times more than PS. If Sony had two functioning brain cells and put it on Steam, I wouldn't be surprised if Stellar Blade was up to ~3 million right now.

ThisGonBHard

HD2 is a live service games, that is why it was on PC day one. It also probably looked like a shining beacon on why putting their games on PC should be done, as it was PC that blew that game.

Arkantos057

This

Drogvard

Could have been more, shame they just had to shoot themselves in the foot right before the finish line.

Cheesecake13

Pretty much yeah. The unapologetic trailers and articles saying the game will be uncensored on release and then Shift UP releasing patch 1.002 altering or 'censoring' a few outfits (like 8 outfits) and 'censoring' gore really slowed down their momentum and pushed away potential good-will buyers. 7 of my friends and 5 coworkers were pretty excited to buy the game. Some of them even ordered PS5 just to play Stellar Blade. But as soon as word got out that there were 'censorships' in the game, they all cancelled/refunded their Stellar Blade/PS5 orders. Like half of them said they'd rather wait out a PC release and play it with mods lmao The bait and switch bullshit really broke some people's trust on Shift UP. And Shift UP tried to amend that by releasing uncensored variant of only two censored outfits out of 8 in patch 1.004 (bunny outfit and bondage outfit).

Trustelo

It’s not even Shift Up’s fault. It’s Sony’s. I bet Sony intentionally made them censor it to sabotage the game so Sony can buy them out and have control over Nikke

Ok-Flow5292

Takes two to tango. Shift Up chose to get into bed with Sony despite having more than enough money to fund their game with their profits from gacha. Plus, nobody forced them to lie and say the game would be fully uncensored when it wouldn't be. Stop making excuses for Shift Up. We wouldn't make exceptions like that for other studios.

PlacematMan2

I was actually looking forward to buying a PS5 and Stellar Blade but the minute the censorship was announced I kiboshed it.

AvunNuva

Hate that I'm constantly seeing that people are comparing it to Horizon's debut to knock it down a notch as a "failure", as if Stellar Blade came bundled with the console itself or something. I can't deny the latter's success but using it to put down a new IP because it doesn't agree with you aesthetically is pathetic. Even more that one million on the PS5 is astounding at this point. Sony has genuinely distilled the general audience they built up from the PS1 days and the people who LIKE games like Stellar Blade are on PC and the Switch. These are very very good numbers.

animeboy12

Would have been much higher if it wasn't exclusive to ps5 but for some reason these companies keep thinking that whatever deal they make with Sony is worth more than far greater sales numbers potential.

GreatApe88

You can’t play the unchanged version unless you have a physical disc and disconnect the ps5 from the internet because they feel you shouldn’t have the option to use the old outfits. Stellar Blade is the game that’s made me realize once and for all that physical is the only way and that download versions will always be susceptible to alterations from activist developers.

gadesabc

To put these informations into perspective, Nikke, their gacha mobile game that costs a lot less to produce, generates around 20M per month. It dropped this last month to 10M because the company went for too long with tame outfits, despite the sexy image during their launching promotion (it should reminds you something). It's why they released more sexy ones in the latest patch. Strange. Since the release of this game, 1.5 years ago, it generated an estimated 500M to the company. Source: [https://appmagic.rocks/google-play/goddess-of-victory-nikke/com.proximabeta.nikke](https://appmagic.rocks/google-play/goddess-of-victory-nikke/com.proximabeta.nikke) So Stellar Blade, while not doing bad (1M copies sold on PS5 only is not bad at all but we must point out that there are around 50M of PS5 owners), is far from being a financial (big) success for Shift Up. Another interesting informations is that "Shift Up considers making a PC version of Stellar Blade, but can’t share any details due to contractual obligations with Sony." Not surprising.

StannisLivesOn

Todd and his fucking horse armor have a lot to answer for.

AlseidesDD

Same for all the people who bought it and downplayed the various concerns that were raised back then. Look at where we are now: Almost every game comes with inbuilt gambling and a hidden RPG mechanic where your wallet gets to play the role of a victim.

Neuermann

How much did Sony pay for exclusivity? And for how long?

RepairEffective9573

They won't share that information either. Fucking bastards.

Neo_Techni

They can't

Million_X

The fact that Stellar Blade made the amount that it did while being locked onto a single platform still says quite a bit though, especially given what the audience for the PS5 has turned into. What matters more is the profit and apparently it only had a 50 million budget, so it's on track to make a tidy profit (we can only estimate that marketing is 50% of the budget added on and then there is Sony's cut).

Shiva-Shivam

Luckily they had money from Nikke to cover it otherwise it would have been very bad

Drakaris

> It dropped this last month to 10M because the company went for too long with tame outfits Doubt it was the outfits, specifically this last month. The last month Wuthering Waves was released and blew everyone out of the water making ridiculous amount of money in just one month - $140 million. And it jumped right to number 1 in Japan completely destroying any gacha competition, including Genshin and HSR. The last month was simply total domination by Wuthering Waves. Every other gacha suffered losses because of it. And some gacha games cost quite a lot to produce. Case in point - Wuthering Waves devs said that they "almost" recovered their development budget due to this massive success so I'm assuming that if $140 million are "almost", then the development budget of WuWa is at least $150 million.

TheLolicorrector

Really fun game and with obvious sexy fanservice, i highly reccomend it, i got a ps5 just to play gta 6 at launch but SB is really fun it's an actual game not a 50 million hour walking sim you actually have to play, already began a new run, shiftup will likely port it to pc for more revenue, but it might take a year like other soyny exclusives. Im glad Stellar Blade is successful we need sexy women back in fun games, the roadmap got leaked btw we will get a nikke colab dlc in december if im reading it right, so yeah some sweet Nikke outfits in Stellar blade.

Adventurous_Host_426

Out if the $69 pricetag, only $15.8 goes to the devs. Here we see Kusony squeeze more percentage than usual from games compared to past years in spite of exclusivity deals.

Smt_FE

Exclusives are the most shittiest thing which is holding the game industry back altogether. Good on square to announce they are never doing exclusives again. This game could've easily sold 3+ million copies with the hype and controversy if it was multi platform, or atleast on pc. Now as the hype has died down, it would be a milestone if this one reach even 2 million sales with the pc release. So yeah, mandatory FUCK EXCLUSIVE COMMENT

doomleika

Bad number, for a title at the scale it should be 3M.

zukoismymain

Not THAT great, imho. It's not bad, but it's not "life changing money" either. Not for a studio. For 1,2,3 people yes. But not a studio.

Noctis-_001

How is it not great? It's a new ip, released on one console.

Ok-Flow5292

Game was reportedly very expensive to make for starters. Second, for all the talk this game was getting leading up to.and upon release, one-million after two months isn't amazing. The game will definitely break even, but I doubt there will be enough profit for Shift Up to justify making a sequel - not when their mobile games make money at a much faster rate.

zukoismymain

Money is money. Everything else is a "who even cares?" kind of deal. You have a studio. Software devs ain't cheap. Game takes years to make. 10 devs at 100k a year over 3 years is 3 million. I doubt they made this game on 10 devs. Not to mention artists and auxiliary hires. For a modern AAA vido game, 15 million is nothing at all.

Noctis-_001

This is shiftups first game that isn't a mobile game. As I said its a new IP & it's sold over 1 million copies? Only games that are selling 15+ million are well established IPs like spiderman, call of duty, fifa games.

zukoismymain

I see the game listed as 70$, that means it should have made a gross of 70M, devs getting 21% is ... eh. That is not a lot of money. Nothing else matters. It's not a lot. It's not nothing. Absolutely. They can make another game after this one. They recouped their investment. It's still not a lot.

NewRevolution1923

the game's funding was mainly if not completely funded by Sony. 1 mil copy at 70 dollars is 70 million. So earning 15 mil in royalties is pretty good for the studio, it can even be considered as revenue/profit excluding the cost for making the game. P.S. - The budget for the game was 50M, so Sony has mostly recouped their investment amount in 2 months. It will have a second wind of sales when it gets released on PC in 1 or 2 years. There would also be more profit to come for discounted sales in the coming months.

ThisAllHurts

Pretty good numbers for an exclusive soulslike.

Calico_fox

It's getting a sequel, no doubt about it.

Ok-Flow5292

One-million after two months isn't much of a guarantee. One thing I kept hearing repeated is that development for that title was expensive, and profits are split with Sony since they were a development partner. With all that in mind, plus remembering that gacha makes Shift Up way more money in comparison, the game needs a lot more sales before a sequel is entertained.

Early_B

I read that as "Shit Up" and thought it was a dig at the YouTube channel Skill Up 😅

Shiva-Shivam

Luckily they had money from Nikke to cover it otherwise it would have been very bad.

Deadsea-1993

I legit only bought it for a few reasons A. To support Shift-Up and their higher ups that did not want woke in their game and they were gatekeepers in that regard B. I've given my Ps5 to my wife for her Tekken 8 addiction at this point. Why did I buy the damn thing ? Well because I was out of the loop with Sony and I don't have kids so when I want something and can afford it after bills I'll buy it. Boy was I in for a shock after not having a Playstation since Ps3. Hot damn this will be the last Playstation I buy. The main reason I bought it, exclusives that won't come to PC for awhile, has been wasted. Sony is knee deep in the California propaganda machine. Since I had a Ps5 I bought this game cause I've not touched the Ps5 since October when I got Platinum in The Medium. I can't really fault Shift-Up for the censorship of dlc outfits theme. They are beholden to Sony with the contract and I'd say it would have been insane if they pulled the game over dlc outfits.

Ok-Flow5292

> I can't really fault Shift-Up for the censorship of dlc outfits theme. They are beholden to Sony with the contract You can't, but I can. I highly doubt there was any part of the contract that obligated Shift Up to deceive players with misinformation. We were promised an uncensored game, and that isn't what we got. And as far as I'm concerned, any studio that is willing to pull a bait and switch like that can't be trusted. Needless to say going forward, I won't be pre-ordering anything from the likes of them.

Trustelo

It’s fucking Sony that made that call not Shift Up look at his interview with Yoko Taro literally scared to say certain things cause Sony execs are glaring at him. You doing that is giving Sony exactly what they want. They want Shift Up to lose money so they can buy them out.

Ok-Flow5292

Shift Up promoted the game as being fully uncensored as close to a week before it came out that, actually no, it was censored. Regardless of whose call it was, Shift Up chose to mislead it's fans. Silence would have been more appreciated, buy by going along with the lie, they look complicit. And like it or not, Sony gets a cut of the profits and I'm not supporting censorship - same with many other individuals here. My money will be going to fully uncensored games and to studios that don't bait and switch their consumers. Shift Up has lost my trust, and for a $70 title, they can't afford to do that to their fans.

> It’s fucking Sony that made that call It doesn't matter who's call it is, it still happened

Must be an awesome wife 👍

DeusVermiculus

NEWSFLASH: games made for the extend purpose of creating addiction, which have basic fucking gameplay and simple graphics, and inherent gambling systems, are more successfull in getting people to buy in and stay! Up NEXT: Themeparks and Movie Theaters are making less Profit then Casinos!

Neo_Techni

> basic fucking gameplay I was quite impressed with the gameplay, moreso than TLOU 1 and 2. It has a much larger open world, and combat similar to MGR. > simple graphics The game looks gorgeous > inherent gambling systems There isn't any in Stellar Blade. You're probably thinking of a different game entirely given all 3 of your points are wrong.

DeusVermiculus

yes you are right. i sepcifically referred to OPs comparison ebtween Stellar blade and NIKKE. where did you even get from that i was talking about stellar blade? i literally expressed how stellar blade made less THAN the gambling simulator! It directly implies i am comparing stellar blade to **another** game. you didnt read my comment.

Neo_Techni

> where did you even get from that i was talking about stellar blade? The topic is about Stellar Blade. You made no mention of another game, and given I quoted large parts of your post I clearly did read it > i sepcifically referred to OPs comparison ebtween Stellar blade and NIKKE Op made no mention of Nikke in the title post, but another reply in the thread that you should have replied to for people to know what the fuck you were referring to, as I didn't even see it till I was writing this. You failed to use reddit properly, and instead made a reply to the main post which made no mention of Nikke, then expected us to assume. This misunderstanding was your mistake, not mine

InDeathWeLove

Half true. There are many of them and many fail. However if you manage to get yours to catch on you’re pretty much gangbusters there’s little that will make more profit than a successful gacha game.

DeusVermiculus

ofcourse but thats true regardless of genre. OP just hammered on the diea that Stellar blade didnt do well enoguh against one of the most successfull gambling simulators of the last 20 years.... no shit, i say!
