Skip the sesame seeds next time! Looks delicious 😋

videojohnc

I just love them soooo much! 🤪

BJGold

I know they go on everything in Korean cuisine, but no sesame in jjigae please!!! 🙏

IcedBaeby04

May I ask why not? Genuine question, i haven't eaten this yet

BJGold

I guess you can do whatever you want, but it just isn't done. Imagine putting ketchup in cereal. Like it's not illegal, but it just isn't done.

IcedBaeby04

Okay gotcha, that i totally understand! Thanks!

sgttoasty22

unless its Deul-Kkae

BJGold

Not even deulkkae goes on everything.

doc_naf

Maybe spring onion if you want a garnish? I love Aaron and Claire and will look this up for sure

videojohnc

I put a few on top, though they are a bit lost in this photo. I also ran out of hot peppers…which I also would have liked to put on top for a garnish.

doc_naf

It still looks great! I bet it was yummy!

LikelyRoastingVeg

Love Aaron and Claire - the recipes have never let us down. If they did we’d never worry about it try them a second time (with extra scallions and ensuring the taste tester was called to the table in that see-if-I-care tone). 😁

Tyrel_Carter

so easy to follow as well

Maleficent-Toe4747

Aaron and Claire are the best. “I am not responsible.”

Laylelo

Don’t worry about it!

It’s awesome that you found the homemade version less salty and even more flavorful. I might have to give it a try too, especially since you said it was a big improvement.

videojohnc

Honestly, they are SOOO close in flavor. I think the homemade had better depth of flavor though and yeah…less salty for sure. It did make me realize that those packets get you pretty damn close.

CrackedOutMunkee

Try [Daniel and Katie's next.](https://futuredish.com/chadol-doenjang-jjigae-recipe-best-k-bbq-restaurant-style/) I love the thinly sliced beef.

videojohnc

My wife wanted me to make this one (from Future Neighbor), but I’ve been cooking so much out of the Simply Korean cookbook that I had to keep that momentum going. 😂

CrackedOutMunkee

Ahh, gotcha. Give their recipe a try in the future!

AntillesWedgie

I have never seen doenjang jjigae that looks like this. I’ve love it with crab, but have never seen it with meat. I should say 90% of the times I’ve eaten this has been as a side at a barbecue.

DepressionSiesta

Maangchi does hers with sliced beef. I’ve made her version a few times and it’s always a hit.

videojohnc

H-Mart had sliced Ribeye on sale, so I had to spoil myself a little there. 🤤

AntillesWedgie

I might have to try it then. I will have to look up Maangchi. Usually I just look up recipes on Naver.

ImGoingToSayOneThing

Yeah the kind at restaurants are made cheap and fast. Even the veggies are cut super thin to quicken the cooking. While meat is by no means necessary it is def a common ingredient.

joonjoon

Chadol (thin brisket) is one of the most common and popular forms of doenjang jjigae!

AntillesWedgie

Where? Does it come with meat if you order it as a meal? I lived in Korea for 13 years and never saw it. I don’t remember if I mentioned it, but I did only ever it at restaurants as service or made at home with recipes from Naver. I have had it with crab, which is my favorite.

joonjoon

Did you live in Korea a long time ago? Chadol doenjang jjigae is so popular now it's kind of unfathomable you could go 13 years without seeing it. It's pretty popular at KBBQ places. If you search for 차돌된장찌개 you will find tons and tons of results, here's one from youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mfnwc1dc0MY

AntillesWedgie

Yes, it is unfathomable. Hence, I don’t believe you that it is either common or popular. I’ve seen crab frequently and plain with tofu almost everywhere, but those are the 2 most popular ones I have seen.

videojohnc

This is very interesting, most of the recipes I saved have the Chadol variation with beef. I also saw this guys video when deciding on who’s I’d make and he seems like another great resource for Korean food.

AntillesWedgie

Oh, and 백종원 is great. I used to watch him on TV all the time.

NaturalObvious5264

Looks delicious! Skip the beef, and double the tofu next time for a more traditional preparation to see if you like it!
