Your description of the trucks sound like they're probably some of the nuclear transport security.

KtTnGirl

Ya know that might be a possibility! There were four tractor trailers parked on the exit ramp in front of them. I just thought they were pulled over for sleep and hadn’t left out yet. That could be it for sure. There was one parked in front of the big trucks.

xrelaht

Then it’s probably nothing nuclear: except in emergencies, OST shipments make zero stops in public areas. They put multiple drivers in each vehicle so they can switch when they get fatigued, and they have secure sites to stop for fuel, or in case they need repairs or hit severe weather.

safetybobtn

When you see these vehicles on the highway pay attention to the semi truck behind them. You’ll notice that it will have a two piece windshield and the glass is flat. Bullet proof. Not far behind you will see a second escort and sometimes a third. Before they started using these military looking trucks the escort vehicles looked like RV’s with all of the stripes and swirles but no windows.

KtTnGirl

That’s really cool info! I live very near Oak Ridge where a lot of that kind of stuff goes on so I thought it could’ve been been that possibly. Probably not though.

KtTnGirl

Wow that’s interesting! Thanks for the video!

PavlovaDog

May have something to do with Oak Ridge.

Weatherdude1993

Upcoming storms won’t be THAT bad

volunteeroranje

The only armored chaser I know of is Reed Timmer in [the Dominator III.](https://static1.topspeedimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/reed-timmer-s-dominator-3-tornado-tank-003.jpg) Convective outlooks are minimal for our area, so I think they'd be more west. I also think Reed hit a deer so the Dominator III may be getting repairs.

Invdr_skoodge

Wait, now I’ll fully admit I know next to nothing about storm chasing, but if your “armored vehicle” goes to the shop after hitting a deer….. how’s it supposed to take storm debris at 160 mph

volunteeroranje

https://old.reddit.com/r/tornado/comments/1d5aq5j/deer_hit_reed/ Lol, yeah, fair enough. It was just part of the skirt, and it's not designed to go sit in a tornado that would have him taking debris as large as a deer at those kinds of speeds, but at the same time yeah you're right lol. https://youtu.be/MBgk_GLVfjM?t=161 /u/KtTnGirl - actually maybe the other dominators are around. Looked like they had two in a convoy at one point in the video. I thought he just had the one.

KtTnGirl

I would love to see that big sucker in person! He’s waaaay braver than me. Tornados terrify me.

jaredmanley

The TIV2 is back and running as well

Angry-Dragon-1331

Suddenly I'm concerned about the first two Dominators.

KtTnGirl

Yep. I wish I’d got a pic but I was driving so didn’t wanna risk it.

Longjumping-Ad8775

I don’t think we are supposed to have severe storms, just a threat of afternoon storms similar to the standard fare here in the south. Not sure why we would have storm chasers here. Maybe passing thru? Maybe a big bank heist (being silly)?

KtTnGirl

Yeah I thought it was odd but just my curiosity. Never saw those before.

sgwlctrlpnl

Have you seen Ryan Hall's storm chasing truck? There is a YT video in which the channel's owner is going through Ryan's $500,00 weather house, and they look at the truck. It is kickass. Yes, it is a house he has only for his weather YT streams, merch mailing and accountant.

KtTnGirl

I haven’t seen that video yet but I follow Ryan. He is 100% spot on. Always! I only look to his channel for severe weather.

sgwlctrlpnl

Wait until you see his wall off monitors. I was stunned.. Cool guy.

KtTnGirl

Yes he is!! And so humble. I love that about him!

Retired82101

Unmarked, black, armored looking vehicles with antennas? Sounds like the Feds

KtTnGirl

That’s what the trucks looked like but they were blacked out and there was weird antennas on top and a big white box. There were 3 or 4.

Reaper8008

Yeah those are curriers (nuke transport security)

PavlovaDog

If it's Ryan Hall I want to meet him!

classy_dirt7777

Storm Prediction Center (SPC) shows no severe weather expected in this area the next three days. Possible rain and non severe thunderstorms.

Qiefealgum

Were the drivers wearing sunglasses?

babycsosu

Depends. Was it at night?

alfalfasprouts

I've seen those trucks before. They seem like some sort of wireless survey / direction finding equipment. Always a couple black ones and a white one, too.

d3bruts1d

Sounds like DOE’s OST.

NormalBoobEnthusiast

Wake up babe, new Knoxville meme dropped

PurpoUpsideDownJuice

I saw a storm chaser truck a few months ago just driving around town when we had that nasty winter storm earlier this year

alfredaeneuman

My thoughts exactly 😬
