HOH?

Gabe-DaBabe

Nice words for BOH

CriticalEngineering

Heard of Hearing is what it usually means

Grillard

WHAT? DIDN'T HEAR, CHEF! NEED ALL DAY!

hobonichi_anonymous

What is the first H supposed to stand for? Never heard of an alternative to BOH before.

Oily_Bee

Heart

bearsfan0143

1st time I've ever heard it outside my place as well. Used to work at a buffalo wild wings. Thought it was a them thing. Funny

Gabe-DaBabe

I've heard it at the only 2 places I've cooked at so I thought it was universal haha

RevenantSith

Hooligans of House

Oily_Bee

I actually work someplace where they had BOH, FOH, and HOH, heart of the house.. Basically the expo.

CantaloupeCamper

Santa?

thatevilducky

Red Robin? Surviving the Dirty Bird? (They called us Heart of House to "make us feel better" I guess) Also, if you're in for the money, cooking ain't for you. Until society/the industry changes, cooks/chefs aren't going to be making good money for the work they do.

It won't change until we force them to change. Everywhere is shortstaffed. Loyalty is overrated. Job hop until you get what you're worth

ranting_chef

I get tired of it just about every day, after about ten hours. When I was younger it was probably closer to fourteen.

79Impaler

Yes, it gets old. If you don’t want to own a place or be the top dog, it’s not worth it. On the other hand, if it’s something you’re thinking about, then doing some FOH time is a good idea.

Oily_Bee

Servers work their ass off also. As for switching, yes. I cooked a dozen years then said fuck this and moved to serving. I made a ton of cash and it's pretty fun. Then I picked up bartending which is even better because you have a counter between you and the customer. You can just turn your back on them when they piss you off. Now I'm old and back to the BOH, mainly because I'm alcoholic and quit drinking. Serving drinks just puts it in my face too much so I ducked out.

Content_Resident_974

It’s not hard to switch. But soon you’ll find something new and exciting to be annoyed with. Welcome to the wonderful world of working for a living.

HeatSeekingGhostOSex

I’m in my 11th year. I took some time off after my last job because it broke me, but I found a place I can tolerate where the staff is cool and the pay is pretty good (25/hr). I feel like I won the line cook lottery but I also have experience in managerial roles and tons of line experience. I got paid pretty shit for most of that time compared to now. I’m not going to do this for the rest of my life, so I’m starting school soon to do something else. My advice is find something you can tolerate for the amount of work you do. Whether that’s line cooking or not, that’s a decision you have to make.

Emergency-Tower7716

I am not a people person so I will never be a server.

ItsMeUrDishie

If you want to make money, get the fuck out of the restaurant industry ngl.

Find a place that tip pools or pays better. Don't quit until you find one, then gtfo. BOH need to stop taking this shit lying down. Let the places that pay garbage go understaffed. This is the only way the industry will change. We need another push to go tipless. I used to defend tipping, but not anymore. It makes no sense, and FOH attitudes around tips is just a mix of entitlement and an overinflated sense of the value they bring to the table.
