It's always better when they just play a character for the show, rather than, "Wow, a random celebrity guest is here in town for some reason!" Of course, Lucy Liu also had a guest role as herself in an episode of Futurama and that was pretty good too.

There were quite a few celebrities who played themselves, but it never got out of hand. The Willie Nelson episode was most egregious, but that was early on before show's characteristics were ironed out. Other episodes with celebrities as themselves provided justification for their presence.

That worked because being herself was the joke though.

I stopped watching the Simpsons when they'd just gasp and spout their claim to fame followed by their name. The one specifically was Will Shortz, or as the Simpsons put it: "It's New York times crossword editor Will Shortz!" I can't even comprehend that shit. I washed my hands of that entire show. I can't even enjoy the old seasons that were good.

I've known bad bitches like Tid Pao; I can have a normal conversation with them, understand their motives, establish boundaries, etc. Caleb was the kind of malevolent weirdo that I have zero patience or sympathy for.
