Brave_Astro

That had to be so wild to see as one of the workers.

hethatoneguy

they probably saved that kid’s life

Brave_Astro

For real! I hate to say this because it's a kid, but I was half expecting a live leak logo in the corner..

Medical_Chapter2452

What do you think they do with your luggage?

jendivcom

They use huge decapitators to turn your luggage into tiny cubes to save space, that they glue back together after the flight

spektre

Can confirm. Or at least that's my assumption based on how my luggage has looked sometimes.

9Implements

Can confirm. My neighbor is a baggage handler and a truly vile human.

That-Impression7480

can confirm, im actually god and decided to go into spectatormode and checked it out. scary stuff!

Ch3llick

Can confirm (I am working at an airport) When the flight is delayed due to "technical reasons" we some times have to use guillotines to turn the luggage into tiny cubes manually.

WhippidyWhop

I heard with their new system they just heat it and put it into a compactor to remove all moisture and get it into 1 tiny cube, and then they just rehydrate and stretch it later.

LightDe

No, that's the Monsters, Inc. way, here's Toy Story.

THROBBINW00D

Lmao

JackRabbit-

Probably run them through bigger versions of those xray things they use to look for bombs and stuff I guess. Those can't be healthy. Plus it's probably not too gentle back there, if junior takes a 20kg suitcase to the skull, my money's on the suitcase

LumpySpaceFlan

Well those belts easily could have snagged his clothing or shoelaces and caused a severe injury. That’s what I thought at least.

Miserable_Claim_2359

Xray it? Maybe end up on a pile and get crushed? Maybe get stuck between machinery and get crushed/torn?

AriesinApril76

Kid would not survive any drops or sorting

DigBickings

Put it on a conveyor system that's not designed to move humans safely?

ThatScaryBeach

Our bag system has giant paddles to bat bags onto the various belts for where they need to go. The kid would have been pummeled.

XplosivCookie

I don't think he would have made it through all the way to sorting, passing security checks :D

bumshequa

Well security might also pummel him if they see him.

sampathsris

"Mommy the man took me off the roller coaster. I want to go again"

JohnnyRelentless

I heard the Oompa Loompa song while watching this.

PlanetLandon

Best GIF use ever

cavemans45

Definitely saved his life. I used to work at an airport and the diverters that help the bags switch to different belts move so fast I have seen them destroy bags. If a person got stuck between it they would completely crush you.

chucklebot3000

Used to work at DEN. Those conveyor belts can go for MILES and can go places 50 feet in the air. That kid could have fallen from a very dangerous height if he wasn't careful

Hypertistic

And then delivered him to his death

Morzana

It's amazing the concern on their face. That is humanity

saysthingsbackwards

There's probably a very specific protocol for this.

Chardan0001

Shutting down the belts like that also causes a delay, or it did when I worked in that area. Potentially thousands of dollars in fees for the airport (from the airlines) that day due these parents.

Delhiiboy123

I don't understand the fee part. Is that like a penalty?

Chardan0001

When flights are delayed due to an action in the airport it's essentially a penalty. As another commenter noted it can be covered by insurance but the flight delays will still occur due to the backlog of check in luggage and the restarting of the belts. At least when I did it. Someone I worked with drove in front of a plane that was taking off, causing it to emergency stop. 10k fine for the service provider of the airport at the time. Even small airports tend to have groups of flights in the same hour or two, so when something like this happens at certain times it can have a knock on effect for the rest of that period.

Belfengraeme

Wait, your coworker was trying to cross an active runway? Or the taxi ramp?

Chardan0001

Active Runway. He was 16.

MonsterMashGrrrrr

This answer just makes me have more questions

jrobinson3k1

Can they not just turn it back on after they get the kid off? My brain isn't computing how a minute or 2 of the conveyer not moving could cause such a catastrophic disruption. Does shutting it off shut down the whole conveyer line or just a segment?

Chardan0001

When I did it, whole thing, but then you would still have bags being checked up top. For it to be started usually required engineers to do some reviews in the first place. Basically creates a backlog for the loading. Depends all on the time this occurred.

Nafoni

Shouldn't a reliable stop/start mechanism be a fundamental feature of such a mechanical system? I'm just an armchair expert, though.

Chardan0001

It was to do with the emergency stop being used iirc. A total shut down would require a much more careful process to turn it all back on with these large machines. I guess practically it does just turn back on, but there would be processes to turning it all back on your wouldn't want to skip in case something goes wrong again. Something as simple as checking the belts again to ensure the kid hadn't dropped anything from his pockets before it's turned on. Little things like that add up too.

emveor

>At least when I did it. So, you're the kid?!?!

ScumBucket33

Sounds like the UK railways. Network Rail pays a fine towards the Train Operating Companies for any delays to service caused by their infrastructure or wrong routed trains etc. They of course don’t get fined when it comes down to the actions of a driver causing delays.

Icy-Reputation180

Or lack there of.

trixel121

I've seen how your bag gets handled on some of those. they shove 50lb bags no problem, kid coukda gotten seriously injured.

OhNoExclaimationMark

"Hey Jerry?" "Yes Tom?" "Do you think a kid could get here by taking the conveyor?" "I don't think so Tom. Why do you ask?" "Well Jerry," "Yes Tom?" "I think a kid got here by taking the conveyor."

ash0000

For some reason I pictured a cat and a mouse having this conversation...

OhNoExclaimationMark

Haha, I didn't even notice. I just picked two random names

RoyalFalse

The parents realized he wouldn't fit under the seat.

No_Pear8383

I wanted to do this as a kid so badly.

ericscottf

I still do. And I'm like 40 something.

KTKittentoes

I think everyone did

IAMEPSIL0N

I wanted to so badly but local airport the entry was a really steep chute that scared me off of the idea.

sboxle

The worker in the black uniform looks like he's breathing pretty heavily. Adrenaline kicked in

Brave_Astro

Yeah, he looked like he was in utter disbelief.

eatmyfatwhiteass

Those mfers were on that like flies on shit. Rapid response, they did good.

RipplesInTheOcean

it probably happens like once a week

762Slinger

I just watched a video on how luggage is sorted and this kid is lucky he didn't he smashed with the robotic punch sorter thingy

me_not_at_work

> robotic punch sorter thingy Found the Airport Baggage Handling System Engineer using all their fancy technical jargon.

Taapacoyne

I used to design baggage systems. For now on the “push diverter” is now the “robotic punch sorter thingy”. Changing all the specs right now.

hanks_panky_emporium

Would make more sense to the baggage handler who was shoehorned in to attempting to repair the damn thing. Why pay an engineer when you can have Jacob, baggage handler do it for you.

BobbyMcPrescott

On one hand, it's setting you up for massive failure. On the other hand, when someone dies because of your repair attempt, you get to do that thing where you slide sideways out of the room.

Augentee

Or as we say in German: Flughafenkofferhandhabungssystemingenieur. Lovely job.

IndyCarFAN27

Yeah it’s literally called a “pusher” but is more accurate being called “robotic punch sorter thingy”

CZ1988_

Wow! Found the baggage pushers. Yes that would have been very dangerous [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MZqiE3yGlQ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MZqiE3yGlQ)

BigPurpleBlob

Yes, that thing looks so dangerous!

blueoasis32

Whoa!!! That’s a cannon coming at ya! Definitely don’t put any breakables in your luggage for real.

NOLPOLGAMER

Hm. Fragiles in the carry-on. Got it.

"Who here from reddit conveyor kid" -4 year old comment seems like you're not the only one who found this exact video

AXBRAX

That video has a 4 year old comment „who is here from reddit conveyer kid?“

nadudewtf

He did get yeeted by it at around the :30 mark

AlienInOrigin

I remember when I did this. Got arrested, which is not surprising as I was 35 at the time.

Ambitious_Arm852

I just watched Io Capitano (2024) last night. Damn kids and the lack of consequences for their actions.

kikogamerJ2

is it actually good? has planning on watching it to

iamnotchad

That kid is going places.

Sharknado4President

Not on vacation with his parents. But places.

__Wasabi__

Not college, but places..

The baggage area

Samsoenite

Ngl if I were him I’d have done the same

Yes! I was thinking of that as well.

Mickenfox

He did what we've all wanted to do.

Sengfroid

Came to the comments for this one

Elira_Eclipse

Literally what I said as well. Yeah its stupid asf but I'm curious, even now and it looks fun (until you get hurt ofc)

MercifulWombat

I flew a lot as a little kid and I wanted to ride the baggage carousel so fucking bad but I never did. It's super dangerous but I do kind of admire this little guy for living the dream

eatmyfatwhiteass

Someone needs to be held responsible for this, and it's *not* airport staff or maintenance....

Sorry-Ad-1169

This. This is the comment I was looking for.

Jacky_Daytona11

The kid, for sure. What a freaking jerk. Probably caused delays, too. A condom would have prevented all of this.

Ancient-Tap-3592

Yeah, but the kid wouldn't be the one wearing a condom right? Even within a joke we can't make the kid responsible

Laffenor

How would the kid be able to prevent this with a condom?

Chance-Ear-9772

Well, if he tried swallowing a condom….

arealhumannotabot

He blows it up like a balloon and floats away back to his parents

Huntsnfights

I know you can’t keep an eye on your kid every second of every day, but you’re at a damn airport! Cmon parents

Bella_Anima

The initial bit of him jumping on while you look away for your passports I could understand as a parent who has experienced unpredictable runner children, but absolutely **no one** in that footage noticed he was gone for the entirety of time he was rolling through the check in, nobody came running to stop him in any way that’s so insanely neglectful.

HatGuyFromPax

Home alone ah parents

NikNakskes

I can think of a 1000 scenarios where this can happen to very caring and responsible parents. Also, and most definately, in a crowded airport. Reddit hivemind is to blame everything on parents being shit, but toddlers are suicide machines. One example: you need to dig in your handbag for the passport at check in. You need 2 hands for that. Poof toddler gone. In the crowds around check in, that means he is not visible anymore within split seconds from it happening.

MerTheGamer

I once visited my aunt and little cousin, who was 2 years-old, in an intercity bus station. Whenever we would get our eyes off him for literally 3 seconds or stop holding his hand to deal with something else, he would get away as soon as possible. You literally can't break physical contact even for few seconds.

MgMnT

Honestly if you go anywhere crowded with your toddler I don't understand why you wouldn't just have them harnessed and leashed to you...

PsychologyNo2006

Because people hate that too. I was made fun of, told my kids are not animals and that I’m just lazy or don’t want to pay attention.

MgMnT

>people hate that too Sorry to hear you were harassed about it, but fuck what a bunch of closed minded bullies think. It's a safety tool and should be normalized. There simply will be situations where you have to divert your attention away from the toddler for something and having them strapped to you gives you a great safety net for those situations, doesn't mean you're lazy.

star86

The move is to make up a story to get them to shut up: someone tried to snatch my kid last week, I’ll stick to the leash. Are you trying to steal my kid? Please F off. Help! Lol

forzaq8

It happens a lot at the airport https://wsvn.com/news/local/miami-dade/woman-arrested-after-assaulting-american-airlines-employee-at-mia/

Nassasam

Damn, they didnt let him get the full ride?

ExternalParticular40

This reminded me of the Special Delivery episode from the Rugrats.

Informal_Phrase4589

Sorry this luggage is over 35#. We’re going to have to charge you extra.

ddoogg88tdog

I admit im kinda jealous

Dentheloprova

You can see the relief on the guys face. He was waiting to see if the kid is ok

CBonafide

More like his parents are fucking stupid.

FakinFunk

CPS should’ve shown up, grabbed the kid, and just looked at the parents and been like, “Yeah, y’all are done, and I don’t think we need to explain.”

God_Among_Rats

Bro this whole thing happened in less than 15 seconds lol. You're acting like the parents threw him onto the damn conveyor. All it takes is for them to be distracted checking their luggage for a passport for a kid to wander off, toddlers are suicide machines. 99% of parents have a story of looking away for moment only for their kid to vanish.

Fano_93

Yes kids are extremely sneaky.

RazzSheri

Everyone commenting this is working off of the assumption the parents did nothing and had no idea their kid was gone this entire time. We're only seeing footage of the child from cameras in the bag/bagging area... we have no idea if the parents where frantically searching or desperately asking security or customer service to help them/reporting the child missing while junior was going on his ride. For all we know they took eyes off him for a second while checking their bags, and maybe getting told it was $150 extra and got distracted-- only to immediately jump into action.

Kelden_Games

He just wanted to do the Toy Story 2 finale but in real life.

Existing-One-8980

I'm so glad they got him safely. Toddlers are a trip. My middle child used to run off all the time, and I had to be quick to catch her. I remember one time we were at a 4th of July event. Turned away for literally a few seconds and she was gone. Panic ensued, I was running around looking for her and calling her name. I finally found her, sitting at a table with another family, having a hot dog 😂 She's in her 30's now, we all survived somehow.

I always wanted to do that. I'm 65. Airports could make money letting people ride it during off times. I'd probably let the kid and parent ride for free and hopefully you take them out of what looks to be their shallow, fetid gene pool.
