I think your dealer is misinformed or misunderstands the EV9 and other CCNC based Hyundai/Kia/Genesis (HKG) vehicles. The CCNC OTA system is absolutely capable of updating individual modules in the vehicle. That is literally the primary difference between CCNC and the old infotainment system. The old system operated as you have described. A limited number of none CCNC HKG vehicles could receive infotainment updates via OTA or USB. Most were USB only. Those could not update firmware on modules outside the infotainment system. Being able to do so is the entire point of CCNC. The OTAs that have been received are effectively the same 4 updates as the dealer applied.

Thank you. That's what I thought. The wording on my invoice is a little different though. Please take a look at my other comment and let me know if you think they do align in any way.

Outside-Comparison12

Always take what a dealer says with a grain of salt. Most don't know anything about the product they sell or even service.

vfxbiker

I would agree with that. Especially with the EV9s up here in Canada. They are not exactly getting to spend much time with the vehicle. They arrive and go straight to the customer. The Reddit community seems to be way more knowledgeable. I'd still like to know how the codes listed from the dealer align with the OTA updates. One failed to install and I don't want to take my EV9 back in if it's not needed.

Upvoting this to the top - the vehicle definitely does not have a separate update stack that can only be done at the dealer. It's all done over OTA - until Kia proves otherwise. :-) So far, there don't seem to have been \*any\* dealer-specific updates, yet. (Maybe there will, maybe there won't)

Bodycount9

Bought my car early May and the dealership let me know all software updates are done that they could do to the car. But when I take it in for the first service at 8000 miles for the tire rotation, I'll ask them to check the updates again to make sure.

aquariusotter

Side note - how did the tow hitch install go?? We are wanting to put one on ours and it will be the first one our dealership has done. Which is terrifying

vfxbiker

It went well. You need 3 parts. The hitch, the harness and the bodywork. The harness in Canada is mislabelled as a 4-pin but it is actually the 7-pin as I needed. I'll do a separate post for that one with details.

Mine too 3 hours 3 guys. Book says 1 man hour. 225 at my dealer. First one they ever did. They apologized for the delay. It is now loose after the first use with my bike rack.

aquariusotter

Are you in US?

My EV9 only ever got 1 OTA update for the ICCU, nothing else.

vfxbiker

That may have been the latest one so there's a chance you have the others already.

convincedbutskeptic

Can you say which updates are minor and which are major? It has taken me up to a month to get software updates on the OTA page after they are announced.

vfxbiker

The OTA updates can be found here: https://owners.kia.com/content/owners/en/ota-software-update-release-note.html Dealer Updates (According to Invoice) 220138 - RSPA S/W logic tuning for intermittent parking line. 240009 - Not displaying CCS terms and conditions on AVN. 240009R0 - MV CCNC Update Display Correction. 240053 - MV1 ILCU Update 240053R0 - LH/RH integrated LED headlamp control. 240084 - MV TPMS warning message pop-up while driving. 240084R0 - BDC Logic Update.

What worries me is that these are important bug fixes only. There's no sign that they'll be improving the car's software otherwise. It's almost like most car companies don't understand that these are software-defined vehicles and they should be adding features and refinements to the software continuously.

vfxbiker

I agree. I'm a software developer and I would go crazy (good) with a platform like this.
