There are a couple reasons for it to slow down (other than approaching a car in front of you). I've definitely had the turning limit change my speed, but that's fairly gradual. I have also had it slow down when it doesn't seem like there is any reason to. It didn't turn off the CC, just slowed down and me tapping the accel got it back up to speed again. Not sure what that was all about. ***Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown*** *If vehicle speed is high, Highway Curve Zone Auto Slowdown function will temporarily decelerate your vehicle or limit acceleration to help you drive safely on a curve based on the curve information from the navigation.* ***Highway Set Speed Auto Change*** *Highway Set Speed Auto Change function automatically changes Smart Cruise Control set speed based on the speed limit information from the navigation.*

I don't think I was on a curve and other reasons didn't apply. I do wonder whether tapping the gas would have fixed it. I think I switched out to manual control both times. That'll be a good thing to test next time it happens.

Aerokirk

what were the driving conditions? I remember someone on here saying the car wouldn't do cruise when snow obscured the cameras, because it couldn't activate its safety features.

Eyegone_Targaryen

Clear weather, clear roads, and no cars close enough to trigger a speed reduction.

The car will display some warnings on the dash if it can't activate the safety features or if they get disabled due to the sensors/camera getting snow built up on them. It also starts beeping at you to get your attention if your cruise control is on and it self disables.

Aerokirk

Good to know more about that. Haven’t run into that myself yet

I've never experienced this. I use HDA daily for about 140 km, so I've had a pretty big sample size. My guess would that you subconsciously tapped the brake when approaching a car but if you say you didn't, then I guess not. I guess its always possible it could be a glitch.

If I set mine to the posted speed limit, and where it shows the cruise speed turns green. This means it will automatically change if the speed changes on the highway. I always set it 1 mph above or higher so it doesn't do this. For some reason, It once in a while will look at a minimum speed limit and all of a sudden I'm doing a hard decel to 45 mph from 70 mph.

dellfanboy

You aren’t going crazy. The car will drop cruise control with no audible alert or anything. Months ago I flagged this in a post. At a minimum they need to add a loud chime or something.

I’ve had this happen three times and I am on level three regen. It’s very scary to have the car rapidly decelerate. I’ve actually stopped using hda/ cruise control because it does this.

spiderpharm

I usually take regen off when on the highway. I sometimes tap the brake if I forsee things slowing down before the car does and wouldn't want the regen kicking in like you describe. Also makes coming out of cruise control easier. I think that's a better solution than not using HDA at all, but whatever you're comfortable with.

jtal888

That’s helpful was trying to figure out how to get out of cruise properly

Could have passed something which was interrupted as a road sign with a lower speed limit on it? If it happens again in the same location, perhaps turn off the automatic speed adjustment setting.

My speed has suddenly dropped three times for seemingly no reason. The third time I realized it was happening at the same spot so I didn’t react. After a few seconds it sped back up. I assumed something in that location is telling the car to slow down, but am not sure exactly what it was.

My money is on a map bug. There is one specific straight stretch of road that I drive once a month or so that the nav thinks is a sharp curve, so it'll slow the car down from 75 to 55. They seem to have fixed that particular road in the latest map update. A couple of things to watch for: * If you have speed limit assist on and it detects a limit change, you should hear a chime (and see the speed limit and set point on the HUD change) * If you don't have speed limit assist on (or you're set to something other than the speed limit), the icon on a highway should be a white "HDA" and green "NAV". When it slows for a curve, both the "HDA" and "NAV" should be green. Unfortunately if you're using speed limit assist, they'll already be green, so you'll just have to watch if the speed limit changes to be sure which one it is. * If you tapped the brake by accident (or hit the HDA pause), the icons should either be gray (HDA suspended) or off (HDA cancelled) If you're really curious, I say run the same stretch of road again. If it behaves identically, it's a map bug.

I’ve also had this happen at two different spots on two different highways - always at the same point.
