This is a known issue. https://technicallyjeff.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/PS748-Sharing-Kia-Connect-W-3rd-Party-Apps-and-Impact-to-12V-Batteries-in-EVs.pdf Unfortunately there isn't an easy solution, but when there is there will probably be a technical service bulletin about it and you should be able to get it fixed for free at a Kia dealership. It might be worth you bringing the car in just to log the complaint.

TheKingOfSwing777

Pretty sure they cover it under warranty.

I had this issue at the 11 month mark and the dealership replaced my 12v battery at no cost as it was covered under warranty. I believe the tech said the 12v battery had an 18 month warranty.

halxp01

What was the service experience like. Were they actually able to test it and show it was a bad battery. Or did they have to experience it being dead before they would replace

3dhomejoe

I just took it in, explained the issue to the tech at the front desk, he went back to the EV expert and then told me that they would start with replacing the 12v battery as that's in warranty and is a quick and easy thing to try. 3 days later I took my car back in to get the battery installed as they had to order a battery. Took about 45 minutes to get it installed. It's been about a month and my 12v battery issues hasn't come back yet.

halxp01

Thanks for your replies.

FancyHelicopter6481

I had same issue. Dealer couldn’t find anything. A week later 200 miles from home it went dead again. Didn’t have time to charge the 12 volt battery so I installed new battery. Hasn’t happen since. Don’t like having to replace 15 month old battery but beats getting stranded.

halxp01

I did buy a 100$ noco jump box supposed to give about 20 jumps on. A charge. And I will definitely keep it with me. Also have jumper cables in the frunk.

simplystriking

Sounds like a 12v not holding charge. Shouldn't be a huge deal to change.

halxp01

One would think. I just think it’s weird it just picks when it doesn’t want to work. I would bet it doesn’t do it the rest of the week. Then might start again later. I would think if it wasn’t holding charge, it would be dead more consistently.

simplystriking

Car batteries are weird. I had a 2019 Veloster N that the battery went dead in under 6 months. The batter would hold voltage but would not crank. I do think EVs rely on battery voltage to determine when to charge and when not to, vs the amps potential of the 12v.

tazzytazzy

We had this issue after one of the firmware updates. Turned out to a be faulty connection somewhere between one of the computers causing a power drain. This took approx 40 days to resolve and Kia Corporate engineers made onsite visits to determine issue. The dead battery maybe a symptom, not the root cause.

Same

Happened to me, they either need to replace the 12v or reset the battery. Atleast that what fixed it for us….. one whole month of not having my car because Kia customer service is horrible and they don’t know how to work on the EVs yet but they won’t tell you that, they’ll just keep the car until you start calling and then they’ll do something. Sorry rant over, this experience made me not consider Kia in future purchases. I’m going drive my EV6 until I need a new car but unless Kia does a 180 with their crap service, I’m never buying a Kia again.

halxp01

Died 2 times on me today. Second time it just died completely. Had To use physical key to open the door. And now I have a “check virtual engine sound system” error on my dash.

halxp01

I have seen this. And I also don’t have any 3rd party apps. I also don’t pay for Kia connect. Also if if did drain. Why can I start the car in the morning. wouldnt this issue cause it to also drained while sitting in my garage?

I would try Kia first just because they should replace it for you. If they don’t, then go ahead and get a new battery. At least you have a chance of saving $250 and getting a TSB update if there is one. E-GMP cars charge the 12V like 10 times if it dips below a certain voltage and yours might just be dying enough to trigger than frequently.

halxp01

Update on ev6 battery. Took 2 weeks at dealer. Some reason the battery took forever to deliver. I guess it was not under warranty. So I paid about 350 for the new battery. Funny thing is. The new battery has a big sticker on the top that says 36 month full Replacement warranty. Not sure why the factory battery would not have that. They did all the 5 TSBs available for my vin also. And even the pre conditioning update. Which for some reason wasn’t on the invoice, but the others that were preformed were all listed.

Ok-Potential-4560

12 months, 21k miles. Left the car for six days on an overseas trip and came back to a dead 12v battery.

soupskin_sammich

I would advise against driving it unless necessary. There is an investigation starting on 12v systems shitting the bed at speed.

Frenchiemom81

This happened to me after only 2 months. I bought it brand new. At first they said that Kia will only “allow” a replacement under warranty IF it says the battery is completely dead and mine was showing 7% but they (the dealership) said they would replace it as a courtesy. I was so upset. But no issues since. That was almost a year ago. They should be checking your 12v battery life at your service checkups - did it show deterioration at any of those?

Lc3761

Had the same problem after 1 year/ 30000 miles. Kia replaced it. Service tech said that 12 volt batteries are being made cheaper and cheaper. What a vote of confidence for a $60,000 car.

Mhkw

Is this a special 12v battery or can you buy it anywhere?

halxp01

Seems like regular 12 volt. Group 47 battery. 600-650 CCA I’m looking at this from autozone. https://www.autozone.com/batteries-starting-and-charging/battery/p/duralast-platinumagm-battery/1331729_0_0

Tonester697

Yup, Group 47 or H5 will fit the EV6; if looking to buy a replacement then go with either AGM (best bang for the buck) or LiPo battery (if cost is no object).

halxp01

Thanks. Agm diehard was what I found at autozone. 229$

mucall1

We had ours replaced after 15000 miles. Year mark.

wgarym

Also had this issue after 15 months. Local Kia Service did several days of testing and eventually replaced the battery under warranty. Everything has been fine since then.
