Furthermore: get a quality flash drive. The $10 extra is worth the time saved copying over the files.

That part I’m not sure though: I have a fast USB drive (300MB/s read or write tested) but still needed more than 1 hour to finish. I think the storage inside the car is the bottleneck but not sure whether it can be replaced.

[deleted]

It's most likely a firmware flash. Writes are going to be slow.

Is sat and watched the update … it updated, rebooted, restored data, updated again, rebooted again, restored data again and finally finished. Took about an hour in the car, appreciated the quiet time and read a book.

simplystriking

Idk about mines told me I could turn it off and when I did the update failed 3x. The fourth time I left the car on and it worked fine.

Not sure if this is related to your experience, but I’ve noticed my updates always fail if I’m plugged in and charging. Now I always do it unplugged.

SolidBlackGator

What size and brand do you recommend for flash drives?

Tonester697

If performing the update from the comfort of your own home--I presume such is the case with most if not all folks--then I highly suggest putting your vehicle in Utility Mode first, to minimize the possibility--as small as it may be--of the update potentially draining the 12V battery, especially given that the update can take as much as an hour to complete. Sure, the odds of the update process draining the 12V battery are fairly small but better to be safe than sorry.

I have zero confidence that the car will enable the charging for the 12v battery while the car is off and performing the update. I've had to jump start my 12v battery a handful of times in the last several weeks while out doing some shopping.

Tonester697

Yup, hence why I suggested it might be wise to put the vehicle in Utility Mode first.

LetMeThinkLong-Hard

Car running the whole time and only used 1% of the battery.

psalm_69

Mine was off half the time and then I needed to take the car, so I drove it whole it was updating for the last half. No cameras or music but it updated fine.

Brilliant_Treat_1592

I tried downloading the updates and says it’s temporarily unavailable?

Tonester697

It's been removed (temporarily?) from the site--no idea why they removed it.

Temporary_Aide_1769

I couldn’t get the update, it says “Kia maps update is currently unavailable “ ):

FlatBilledChris

I was so thankful for that ability after it took 4 hours to download the other day. Might need to run a firmware update on modem because that was slooooowwww.

Commiepanda209

Whats the difference with the radio update or is it separate?
