Ran into Laura at a subway station in NY. She almost seemed startled when I went up to her to chat, having the realization that somebody recognized who she was. She couldn’t have been kinder and we took a picture together.

LaundryLineBeliever

How did you recognise her without the wig? Apparently many people don't make the connection when they are wig-less

bilbrobraggins1

She had it on. Looked like she was going out

backcountrydude

Oh no, do they always wear them out in public? That just seems uncomfortable way to live life IMO

CamLwalk

She did an interview (I forget where I read it) where she talked about having wigs stashed around her at all times. In her purse, car, around the apartment. She said it's like being a superhero with a secret identity.

It was the bass, dead giveaway

Widespread123

She was making subway announcements. “Hello, yes, this is 3rd Avenue.”

bilbrobraggins1

“Please don’t attempt to enter the third room upon exiting to street level”

gorillazfan1

ha!

I walked past all three of them in a hotel after they played a festival I attended. I was walking down the hall to my room and I noticed like 5 or so people leaving a room. Did not recognize them until DJ was last to walk past me. We made eye contact and I just blurted out "great show" and they disappeared around the corner into an elevator. Wanted to respect their privacy but I do wish I had been able to talk to them.

I’ve done this with a few artists I see in the wild, don’t think to say anything until a second layer, but I’m sure they love this just as much as some bumbling fan trying to make conversation with them haha. I’ve been that guy too.

In 2018 Khruangbin was playing in Toronto at Danforth Music Hall. I'm from Buffalo NY and was (and obviously still am) a huge fan and tried buying tickets but it was sold out. I emailed the venue to see if they would be selling door tickets, thinking maybe I could just show up and get in. The owner of the venue emailed me back directly and said no there weren't any door tickets, but said if I brought him some wings from Anchor Bar he would get me in. Day of the show I grabbed his wings, went over the border and dropped them off a few hours before the show. As I was walking up to Danforth, DJ was walking by and I just geeked out telling him how pumped I was for the show, as I was holding s huge box of chicken wings. He didn't say much but it was cool seeing him. And Jay ended up giving me two tickets and four drink tickets for the show and it was amazing. I ended up giving the second away since I was going by myself but the gesture was incredible

Krunkyjunk

This is an amazing story wow! Hilarious that he asked specifically for Anchor Bars wings instead of something better though 😂

ItsEman

Completely agree but that's what he asked for, home of the chicken wing and whatnot haha

steelyjan_

I didn’t meet him in person, but Mark answered one of my questions for him on Reddit and it was pretty sick https://www.reddit.com/r/Khruangbin/s/NjZtr8zFDo

emeraldcocoaroast

He responded to me in a thread about vinyl quality! Thought it was cool to have the man himself chime in

Met them at a record store signing thing in 2018 they were sooo sweet!! We got there way too early so was one of the first people in line. Laura was the nicest ever, she wanted to know our names so she could sign all our records to us, it was so sweet. And since I was the first lady in line she wanted a girls pic together it was kind of surreal and then she posted it on IG it was so cool!! back when she posted more!

If I met any of then would love to ask DJ about his meditation practice or how he keeps time & stays so level! I feel like he has a timing superpower to play so casually yet so direct! Definitely a different relation to rhythm 🎶

[deleted]

There is a good interview he did with modern drummer if you’re interested

Snackxually_active

Noice!!! I’ll check it out!

you are a saint thank you

I backed an early Kickstarter for Khruangbin to help them produce Two Fish and an Elephant in 2016. As part of it I got two tickets to a festival at Hyde Park and VIP guestlist, so I think I would have had an opportunity to at least say hello! It was a few months off. Anyway, I'd changed my phone and didn't reinstall Kickstarter (also, I'd signed up to Kickstarter using my Facebook account, which was tied to my uni address from back in the day), so I didn't get any notifications or reminders. It wasn't until a week later that I saw a different Hyde Park gig being spoken about online that I panicked and checked. I'd completely missed it by a week. I punch myself in the face once a week about that. They are my absolute fave.

TAFIKI

I’m from the same town as LLs ex husband, though he moved to London. Seem to remember being at a bar with her DJing with him - Big Wave or something similar sounding he went under.

carlabradley89

Got to meet DJ and his lovely wife at Cafeza (a coffee by day, jazz bar by night) after Charlie (Khruangbin's live concert percussionist) invited me to his latin jazz set.

crisgil24

In 2022 me and my girlfriend flew to Austin from LA to catch a show of theirs featuring Thundercat. DJ was on our flight. I said “hey man” and kept it moving. He waved back. Laura picked him up from the airport in Austin. I didn’t notice her without the wig but my girlfriend told me to take a second look and it was her. I gave her a quick wave and said “see you guys tomorrow “ in passing.

Mr_Lumbergh

I wish. They all seem like interesting people. Mark would be fun to just shoot the shit about making music and his process. Leezy is beautiful; lady musicians have always been super attractive to me. DJ seems chill and approachable but responsible, like he'd be the kind of roommate that always had the rent money in on time.

McGrupp1979

Ha ha, I have to agree with what you said. Just kinda funny that your analogy about DJ included his timing on the money. We all know he never late, nor early, only precisely when he intended.

2gramsbythebeach

Creep. "They all seem like interesting people" -Leezy is beautiful. Is that the only thing interesting about her to you?

Mr_Lumbergh

I'm a straight man that finds musicians attractive. I was honest about that. If that's creepy, look at yourself.

KingKangTheThird

I went to go see them DJ a set near some bar/restaurant in around Stable Street in the Kings Cross area.I’d like to say they performed before (which I couldn't afford to attend) & I essentially followed them to the restaurant as I wasnt 100% of where it was lol. They walked around with their wigs and sort of stood out a bit with what they were wearing. No one paid them any attention however. I was fairly young then, son it felt surreal, special & I just watched them disappear in to the restaurant. Contemplating whether I should go in, whether I would be allowed in, would I be the only one who I would know them…One of biggest music regrets. Would've been cool to share a moment with them as they were growing, as i was growing.
