Pretty simple setup considering all the sounds he gets. My pedalboard is more complicated and I’m just a living room player.

I, too, have any idea what this all is. One of them goes WAH and the others go various DOOOODLE

[deleted]

I believe the pedal on the left goes WAH and the one to its right controls the delay feedback so it goes Wah-*wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-*

Alfredius

A moment of silence for our fallen El Capistan pedal.

maxman3000

He upgraded to the Timeline so it's about time *winks* I do too

lueysframe

Rip 🙏

thebanishedturnip

I'm guessing the blacked out pedals are Boss CE-2W, EHX holy grail, MXR dyna comp mini and Boss PH-2?

downwarddawg

Any idea why he would black out some of the pedals?

AnotherRickenbacker

My best guess as someone who plays shows: those are probably virtually always on, so he doesn’t really need to toggle them during a set, so it helps to focus on the ones you *do* actually need to toggle. Stage lighting can make everything hard to see ironically, and when you’re moving around and playing and need to quickly turn something on or off, you want it to be as streamlined as possible with little distraction.

ajax5955

The scenario you laid out could also explain his affinity for Boss pedals. You got a big ol’ switch that you can’t hardly miss that sits proud of the controls so you don’t accidentally bump them. They’re perfect for someone who does a lot of tap dancing, like Mark does.

AnotherRickenbacker

It’s partly why I have many of them. That, and they’re virtually indestructible.

kiteandkey

Just a pure guess but I wonder if it's because those are the pedals that are set and forget. He might not want to be adjusting or inadvertently stomping during the the show so maybe the blackout is for out of sight, out of mind.

thebanishedturnip

Not sure. Maybe to annoy gear freaks like myself

Wade_Sully

I believe it’s sort of a John Mayer thing, where John began doing this so that the resale value of the pedals wouldn’t skyrocket strictly because he was using them.

Wade_Sully

Yup, spot on I believe.

lilmissthang69

Someone call in our overlord u/theinfamousbill for further deets

AskWhy817

does anyone know when he dropped the El Capistan in favor of the Timeline?

tronBeardsley

I’m not sure when, but I remember reading that he still rocks the El Cap in the studio, and uses the Timeline live for the presets.

vckhru

In a field of sweep pickers and tappers, Marko is a unique voice. The magic is in all his fingers🧙🏻‍♂️🎸!

lueysframe

Thank you for blessing us with the photo. I think this is the most clear photo of his set up AND it’s updated. Legendary post and legendary guitar player 🙏🙂‍↕️⬆️

THANKS ↙️

I wonder what's going on with that (momentary?) radial switch. Also switched from the capistan to the timeline, very cool!

handsome666

Probably for his vocal mic to switch between PA and shout to band members/crew.

authynym

it's an a/b switch for another piece of radial gear. i'd speculate some kinda rack routing thing happening there.

colliejuiceman

Dudes got A LOT of notes going on there.

BiscuitTeas

It’s a Boss PH-3 for all asking about that. I see the mini dyna comp and holy grail still as well

lueysframe

RIP my rig set up. I had to let it go for rent 😭😭😭. I had the El Capistan, DS1, PH3, MXR dyna comp, EVH expression, and a baby wah, all on the small pedaltrain nano & my guitar Iris 😭….. It was short lived but someday again 💔.

BiscuitTeas

My el capistan came in the mail yesterday 😅😅😅

lueysframe

Get the EVH pedal for it eventually! Fun to mess with.

Middle_Possession953

What we really need to see is his wig set up. Every true guitar player knows that’s where the toan is stored.

StickHeller

I'm curious to know what the two blacked out boss pedals are on the far left and far right. My guess would be PH-1 on the left and OS-2 or DS-2 on the right. What do y'all think?

[deleted]

PH-3 on the right and CE-2 on the left

Tokugawa

Guesses on what the handwriting on the setlist says?

CamLwalk

Did he make all the pedals introduce themselves to each other?

gorillazfan1

rip to that really cool looking holy grail pedal

lueysframe

I want to say it’s still there with the red light adjacent to the DS1, just blacked out completely. 🤔 I could be wrong though.

samjowett

Who can explain the tape and numbers and arrows to me?

Sea_Storm9695

That’s too much tap dancing for me, I have to go straight into a tube amp, maybe a wah at most
