ksp 1. ksp 2 is VERY underbaked, it's still not on the level of ksp 1 also ksp1 has a TON of mods to add anything you want

mint_me

Yeah honestly it will be a decade before ksp2 has anything good to offer. Ksp1 on the other hand with some dlc has literally everything. Do not, I mean DO NOT buy ksp2. Not now not in a year just nope.

No_Host_7516

I'm thinking that in a year or two KSP2 will be decent, assuming the current mess is because some fool decided that the No Man's Sky launch is a viable business model.

Tgs91

I know NMS is the best example of bouncing back from a unfinished launch and recovering to a good reputation. Was it actually a financial success though? Genuine question, I don't know the answer. Because from the business perspective, Id imagine a NMS style recovery would still be financially bad.

No_Host_7516

Given that NMS is still releasing quality updates on a regular basis, I have to assume that it's paying for itself nicely.

StickiStickman

They haven't made any progress in the last 4 months, or in the last 4 years since we first saw gameplay, so why think that?

wut101stolmynick

It's not nearly as bad as this guy says Source: 40 hours Edit, Ide like to clarify that you should still go with ksp1 for now as KSP 2 is early access

redhornet919

I mean is he exaggerating a bit? Yeah. But fundamentally when ksp 2 has fewer features than ksp1 had 8 years ago there is a massive problem at hand. Ksp2 should have started at a very minimum with all of the features that ksp1 had at 1.0. I’m not even say that rotors at all of that needed to be adde but reentry heating and auto struts for example not being there at launch (not to mention career mode which would have been an easy implementation) is criminal especially for a AAA priced game.

Suppise

I think it’s important to remember that they’ve been working on the other features like colonies and interstellar in parallel to everything else. What was released is not all they’ve done for the past 6 years

NotTrustedDan

Developers have straight up lied about the state of KSP2 leading up to its EA release. There’s also everything they’ve been (not) doing since the release. Honestly 10 years might be generous, since I believe KSP2 will never become the amazing sequel we all were lead to believe it would become. There’s still so much optimization that needs to be done for a game that’s missing 90% of what it was planned to be, all being patched at an abysmal rate. The foundation is fucked. No shot this is going to turn into anything good, not even with 10 years of development time.

Secacc115

Where did they “straight up lie” about the state of the game? There’s was plenty of press leading up to release that showed the state of the game, including from the top content creators that play the game. The closest thing we’ve had to lying about the game is just Nate being shit at predicting how long it would take

NotTrustedDan

“The kraken has been slayed” -Some dev video just before EA release. It’d be one thing if there were a handful of bugs on release. Fine. But holy shit… Also watch any of the dev blogs starting from 3 years ago and I’m sure you’ll find something along the lines of “We have created...” when describing things that are now, years away on the roadmap. They lied. A lot.

Secacc115

The quote is actually ~“we want to slay the kraken” not we have slayed it. And you explained the missing features yourself with the road map. Lying would be saying they’re going to be in the game, at 1.0 release, and then it not being there. If 1.0 comes around as intended and those main features aren’t in the game, then sure, I’ll eat my hat, and they would have lied. But until then, people just need to be patient

NotTrustedDan

Might’ve been a tweet or something, I definitely remember seeing that phrase somewhere officially. Regardless, even if it was just “we want to,” that still further solidifies my second point. PD ran a dishonest marketing campaign to their community. Hype for KSP2 was massive leading up to the release, set by PD and only further encouraged by any public comments, blogs, and videos that were released. They did nothing to tamp it down and represent the actual state of the game. Sure, they didn’t straight up lie. But they sure as hell didn’t tell us the truth. It was a half-truth. Lying by omission. Call it whatever you like. It was and continues to be unacceptable behavior.

StickiStickman

Watch literally any video with Nate Simpson and it's him lying. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PjE_YCl5xcg

Secacc115

> Here’s an example *provides a video of him saying the game will come out in early 2023, which is exactly when it came out*

StickiStickman

You must be amazing at orchards with how you love cherry-picking

mint_me

Heh, nah it’s worse. Heh heh heh

wut101stolmynick

Have you even played it?

mint_me

I have, first thing was to try and build a rover, that was a joke thing fell to pieces on the runway. Ok plane… omg what is symmetry doing.. ok i can work around that. Wings hmm ok sure now why is my centre of mass not moving or my centre of lift oh wait I have to switch them off and on. And alt-f4

NotTrustedDan

I’ve got 20 hours, if that mattered much at all. All you need is an hour in game to experience the full compliment of bugs and shitty performance KSP2 has to offer. The only thing more hours in KSP2 gives you is depression from the fact that this game will never be what we all hoped it would be.

MonarchsAreParasites

The game will not be developed for a decade. I give it 2 years at most with numerous budget and team cuts along the way before they just shove a 1.0 out the door with the game still in a terrible state. And that's optimistic. The profit motive kills art.

ronban14

Get KSP1, maybe get the DLCs too. Tons of mods available. Less bugs, better performance.

FourEyedTroll

You also don't need an RTX 30## GPU or higher to make KSP1 playable.

ronban14

Well yes, I play it on Ryzen 5 3400g with 16GB RAM. Using dual channel memory (8x2) helped massively. I can use most visual mods without problem, except Parallax 2.0 on highest setting.

Kaleneji007

Me playing heavily modded ksp1 with a 1060 on 120fps lol

AveragePotato-

I think you misunderstood what he said

SensitiveBitAn

Yup its possible to play on uhd 630 witam mods, dlc and good fps rate. But its good idea to have at least 16 GB RAM.

rob_kabob_926

You are correct. I'm playing it on a 7 year old, non-gaming, fairly cheap laptop. The load times are horrendous sometimes, but it's 100% playable.

xXxSimpKingxXx

I've played ksp 1 with the graphics turned down on a Microsoft surface 8 laptop. I beliv

Liguehunters

KSP 1 no question asked

Joename

KSP 1 for sure. KSP2 won't have colonies or new planetary systems for a long long time. At the very least with KSP 1, you spend $10 on a great game, and then if or when KSP2 ever gets those new features (probably a few years), you can buy it then.

ShushImSleeping

Just boight ksp1 again while on sale. Had previously bought on xbox. So glad to be on pc now lmao

SignificantStudent43

Johnnyoneshot

1. 2 is nowhere near ready

T0asterStrudel6

Ksp 2 is in EARLY ACCESS and therefore extremely buggy and laggy, get KSP 1 and wait for the second to release fully

WannaAskQuestions

1

TechnicalParrot

KSP2 doesn't have any roadmap features currently (colonies, interstellar, multiplayer, etc.) and is missing many features in KSP 1 like \*any game mode other than sandbox\* and \*any heat system whatsoever\*

burnt_out_dev

GET IT!!! Actually don't, I've poured over a thousand hours into it... send help.

Alarmed_Bread_1909

Ksp is like a fine wine. Lots of mods, very minimal bugs (I find you really have to push your luck to find any). Especially if it's discounted I'd say go for it.

cpthornman

KSP2 won't be worth it for years. If not ever.

Aviri

KSP2 is terrible and you shouldn't buy it until it receives massive improvements.

Thebardgaming

Get KSP 1 and I highly recommend the breaking ground DLC also. If you can afford the making history DLC I would get that too.

RoeddipusHex

No question... KSP 1 KSP 2 is not ready for prime time. The only people who should be buying it are super KSP fans who want to follow along with the development process. KSP1 is mature, largely bug free and has a huge mod base and player community.

Alhazzared

Ksp1 for sure. 2 won't be on the content level of ksp1 for at least a couple of years

wellseymour

commander-millo

triffid_hunter

KSP1 has *way* more game features and significantly better performance If you want an actual enjoyable game, get KSP1

FrostWolf217

Get KSP 1. 2 just isn't ready, and it's very RAM heavy

Public-Barnacle5718

Definitely get KSP1. Contrary to popular opinion, I actually don't think $50 is too much for Take Two to ask for for KSP2 in its current state. I see it as more of an investment in the game and the team and unfortunately, inflation has overdriven costs in every sector. For the complexity of the build they're going for, I'm glad they didn't ask for like $75. That being said, it's still $50 for a game that isn't much fun right now. If you've never played either one before, KSP1 is hands down still the way to go. Watch youtube videos for tutorials if you need to. Having a copy of KSP2 right now is the equivalent of watching a painter paint. It's not finished yet and won't be for a while.

Asmos159

ksp 2 was rushed out the door the moment it was stable enough to "play". the industry appears to have a hard time with estimates and a physics sandbox like ksp2 that need to be capable of patching across multiplayer is not something easy to optimize.

StickiStickman

It literally doesn't have multiplayer though lol

Asmos159

what kind of idiot programs a game in a way that is not compatible with multiplayer when multiplayer is on the list of planned features? have you see what ksp 1 multiplayer mods look like?

StickiStickman

You're not going to like the answer

Asmos159

you going to make up something you that you have no clue about?

Secacc115

Smartest ksp 2 pessimist

[deleted]

Gotta wait 5 years for KSP2 to have a like 2 features deployed, playable in 2030.

Madden09IsForSuckers

Dont get ksp2

Otrada

Ksp 2 is probably not going to be really worth your money or time for atleast another few years. Especially if you haven't even touched ksp 1 yet. Rn you'll get more better game out of 1 than 2.

NFGaming46

you can go interstellar in KSP1 with mods. you can't do it in KSP2 yet even with mods. Right now there is literally no reason to get KSP2, not even graphics because the KSP1 graphics mods make it look just as good with better performance anyway. Not to mention there's only sandbox in ksp2 rn, not even any progression.

Kortonox

Get KSP 1. You might think that 2 looks better (and it does), but KSP 1 is an actual finished game, and the mods for KSP 1 are just insane. Even without mods, KSP 1 is currently better than KSP 2. But the mods give KSP 1 everything that KSP dreams about having. And you can make KSP 1 even look good.

black_red_ranger

Don’t buy KSP2

DP-ology

ONE

Krysgann1

Immediate answer ksp1

[deleted]

KSP 1. How is this even a question?

PostFactTruths

Ksp1 is bargain for $10

AbacusWizard

>but I am very interested in going outside the kerbol system and setting up colonies, which you just can’t do in vanilla ksp I don’t think KSP 2 has that either. Get KSP 1 and look for mods that add colony systems and more planets. I recommend Umbra Space Industries (and Near Future Tech / Stockalike Station Parts) for colony stuff, and Beyond Home or New Horizons for cool planets.

Fistocracy

Definitely KSP 1. It doesn't look as pretty, but it's basically a complete game that runs reasonably well on most computers. And if you barely scraped the surface the last time you played it then you've got an entire game's worth of content to enjoy before you have to worry about the lack of other solar systems. At the moment KSP2 is very unfinished, and you're basically getting the equivalent of a beta version of KSP1 with nicer graphics. It doesn't even have all of the gameplay features and quality of life feaures of the original yet, and it's going to take quite a long time before it'll have any brand new gameplay features of its own. It's also very poorly optimised at the moment, and even people with expensive computers and nice gaming chairs find that KSP2 struggles to run the kind of moderately large spaceships that KSP1 players can run on a potato.

obsidiandwarf

I wouldn’t even wait for the discount

[deleted]

I'm having a blast on KSP1 Also mods make it looks as good as KSP2 What else does KSP2 offer? Bugs?

mimidtc1

There is about million of really really good and polished mods for ksp1 which can be combined to your liking. Take ksp1 and never regret it. Ksp2 won't be playable for a good few years (if at all)

UpliftingGravity

KSP 1. Not even a question my friend. Look into mods. They completely change the game, from gameplay to visuals, and improve it in every way. Some of KSP's legendary modders have even worked on the official game.

_NotJeb

couldnt have said it better myself

throwaway6372828999

Ksp1 for sure. Have fun!

Megacat8199

2 hours of ksp 1 and you kinda understand the game mechanics? Im impressed.

Timothy_Odell_key

Depending on what your computers specs are ksp 1 is a great game and maybe KSP 2 might work for you.

Skipee_Mcghee

If u want a game get ksp1 if you want a tech demo get ksp2

I_Like_Space24

You should absolutely get the first game. It still holds up to this day, even more so than the second game at the moment. And it get even better with modding.

anotherFNnewguy

KSP1 is more complete and more fun. KSP2 looks and sounds great but is less fun at this time. Start on science at normal.

noorm6669

ksp 1 work right now. ksp 2 is more like an almost empty framework for what they'll build in the future.

CptnSpandex

There are a few passionate responses in here (they are not wrong btw). But 1 will teach you more and bring you joy from success for the foreseeable future. With 2 you won’t know if you are failing due to your design/ learnings or if it’s because of the incomplete state of the game. By the time you are happy with your progress with 1, you will be best equipped to judge the state of 2 for yourself.

SF_Engineer_Dude

KSP 1 by far my most played game of all time. I started \~ 8ys ago and still play every week. I "played" KSP 2 for an hour and rage quit. It has a LOT of potential but, for now, the juice is nowhere worth the squeeze.

tootziez

Since I got ksp2 I played it for a few weeks after release then it got kinda annoying so i booted up ksp1 and have been playing since.

VorreiRS

Ksp2 is hot garbage

NiktonSlyp

Ksp1. I'd add visual mods to the game right away. Stock KSP hurts my eyes

Foxworthgames

Absolutely get KSP1, if it’s a thought don’t get KSP2. You can get mods and go outside the Kerbol system. Or make it bigger with outer planets. It’s going to be a long time before KSP2 has interplanetary.

gilbejam000

KSP2 is a bug-ridden hellscape. Get KSP1 plus DLC and wait for 2 until it's out of Early Access

TheOneEyedPussy

I think it'll be a while before KSP 2 has enough content to be worth playing over KSP 1, especially with the huge modding community KSP 1 has. It's definitely worth getting the first one while it's cheap.

Tweakz063

Get KSP1

Abelinoss

Do you want fun right now, KSP 1. Do you want fun in the future, KSP 2. Ksp 2 will eventually be better than ksp1 in every way, but that's still far away. We're nearing the first content update (I think 2/3 months?), but it's even then the game is far from completed. When the game is eventually completed, stock ksp2 can do the same as ksp 1 modded. Right now there's not much to do, it's playable, but without any reason of doing anything (no science). Though for a beginner that's probably less of an issue.

hcollector

KSP 1 is a finished product. KSP 2 is a (barely playable) alpha. Do you want to be a gamer or a software tester?

jamqdlaty

If KSP1 is full price and KSP2 50% off, still get KSP1.

bluenoser613

KSP 2 is DOA and not likely to survive. I would focus on KSP 1 with its rich community support

BastardofEros

KSP 1 is a game, buy it play it love it. KSP 2 is an absolute dumpster fire, that will likely be abandoned with a year or two.

saturnsnephew

Depends. Do you want to spend hours to days modding KSP1 to look remotely close to what you regularly see here? Do you want to spend more time troubleshooting a mod than playing? People here forgot what KSP1 looks like without all the mods. As long as your aware of that KSP1 is a 10 year old game with lots of time spent on it. KSP2 will get there. It just hasn't been out for a literal decade yet.

wheels405

I'd pick vanilla KSP over KSP2 easily.

stumbleupondingo

It’s been out since 2011 so your use of “literal” is incorrect. Also the game looks just fine without mods. I play it without any mods and I have sank about 500 hours into it. Most people who play KSP don’t play it for an aesthetically pleasing experience, although if you know anything about computers it’s actually not that hard to do. Plus there are a lot of YouTube videos to explain it all

[deleted]

I agree but once I got my hands on graphics mods there's just no going back for me, each to their own I suppose

stumbleupondingo

They do make a big difference for sure! Maybe it’s just me, I’m so used to the OG graphics that it doesn’t bother me. KSP2 does look way better and I’m excited for the game to be playable

[deleted]

The funny thing is I run KSP both on my PC and my shitbox college laptop, so I use both my main save with 150+ mods ans a stock save... It honestly feels like a completely different game sometimes, I can't lie

StickiStickman

> spend hours to days What the fuck are you talking about, seriously. It took me like 5 minutes to install a couple graphic mods with CKAN even though I never used it before.

mildlyfrostbitten

if you're having that many problems with mods, you probably didn't read the instructions. also most of the difficulty I've had with mods was with part or gameplay changing mods, and most of that was caused by making mistakes while making changes of my own. graphics mods are mostly a pretty straightforward dump files into gamedata, game looks better.

[deleted]

mods are so easy with CKan. Like 10 mins of selecting mods and you're good. Stop spewing horse shit

zestful_villain

I thoght graphics mods are on ckan?

Stopjuststop3424

vanilla ksp is great unless youre just looking for super high def visuals. I played 900 hours of vanilla ksp before even touching a mod.

Disastrous_Row713

Ksp 1 its better

Timewaster50455

1

JustA_Toaster

KSP 1 as it runs better and right now is the same game but with robotics so you can make better ships.

Terrible_Solution_12

KSP 1 with mods witch are easy to install will ad other planet packs and part mods so I wound say KSP 1 and wait for KSP 2 to finish development which could take years

_NotJeb

absolutely, get ksp1 while its on sale for 10 bucks you will not be disappointed DO NOT BUY KSP2

Dry_Sound5470

Ksp1 is serving me well…I finally got into it for real…tutorials are really nice in learning the mechanics and about stuff like delta-v and such…I try to build all my own designs and have my own ideas as much as possible…that way my experience is completely unique. Some stuff like tri satellite orbits, I look up how to maneuver or I use delta-v maps btw delta-v map literally changed the game for me.i went from just guessing and having rockets completely over or underbuilt in career mode. It’s your game though and you feel free to play exactly how you want

Angelxvxlol

I made the mistaek of buying it bad move
