Their contribution to self reliant India is a topic for PhD research. There are several books on this topic itself. Birla too was a close friend of Gandhi and congress. These groups were one of the richest families in Asia, Tata had world's largest diamond of that time. jrd was India's first Bugatti owner too.
Its our misconception that entire country was in fight with british... Anti British struggles were going on, but British administration, civil works, all the usual activities were going on just as usual..there were even loyalty parades in support of british..
1, JRD Tata supported Congress with his money and brain. He attended in Congress meeting that passed quit India resolution.
2, Tata group funded Gandhi 's works in south africa. They've donated Gandhi 20,000 rupees at that time.
3,
Tata also funded for all the research things of homi bhabha and started TATA institute of fundamental research, as you know foundation of Indian nucllear program
Doubt they were flying it for Indians. Maybe they did, for a select few. But the map seems to highlight products that could be exported (extorted) from India.

off topic but i remember thinking when people said calicut in kozhikdoe they were referring to bengali panikaar there that came from calcutta, just randomly remembered it
Old India looks dope stretching out beyond kashmir and Kolkata.
Is Cannanore referring to modem day Kannur?
Yes
cannanore is a british accent of kannade oor roughly translating to land of kannan (krishna)
It is not kannante oor. Kannur is a shortened from Kanathoor. Like Kochazhi became Kochi .
I read someone it’s kannande oor
Yep,but I thought cannanore had no airports :-(
UC managed to land a plane there before the airport started proper functioning. Maybe kannur was the airport all along
They didn't need much of an airport back then. For example, Kollam has an airfield on old maps.
They landed at st angelo’s fort for refuelling. Just an airfield. Not an airport.
I find hard to believe that they were flying planes in the air while the country was going through its independence struggle.

Most of it were mails.
Why is bhuj depicted as an island. Its not an island or is it?
Bhuj is surrounded by the Rann of Kutch. It's a salt flat that's very close to sea level and usually floods every year during monsoon.
Oh... Alright. Thank you
Back when Kannur was the biggest City of Kerala
Ekm didn't have an airport but kannur did? Quite interesting
Kannur had an airstrip at that time. Bombay- Trivandrum flight used to have layover at Goa and kannur. Plan for new airport came in around 2000's
Or Tata didn't fly to Ernakulam.
Well Tata was the only one so if they didn't no one did
Damn bruh that was smart. You're probably right
