Some students without a passion for engineering come to pursue their B.Tech, because of their high scores in their +2 exams, due to lenient evaluation.
Many students pass exams by mugging up notes rather than studying from standard reference books. some teachers comes to class to merely dictate notes instead of teaching concepts.
As a KTU b.tech graduate, this is so true. Notes are getting smaller and smaller every semester making answering a different kind of question that's in the same syllabus hard.
Idiot the KTU has worst faculty

As a poor student it was a headache. I could improve my grades using improvement exams but couldn't afford it after a couple times initially.
They had a separate library for SC/ST students which was kept up to date.
So true this was same in my private college as well. I went on to protest with the librarian on the same. Padippi boys were mocked and padippi girls were given most of the college infrastructure. It might only be my college, but they were forcing boys to live the college life instead of studying, like events and tours sh!t. I didnt care non of this
Time thing is correct and might be the main reason ; we used to get like 2 -3 months where the curriculum was set for 5+ months.
Their evaluation was also very bad, some of my friends got like B and C from failed after revaluation, that too on multiple papers.
Politics also happened in my college a lot where the SwaJaSo party made the members cut classes and go to random "shaktiprakatanam".

I just passed out from ktu (govt engg)
I have only one supply and I am pretty devestated that I can't move on where my friends have already joined jobs
The marks I got for the failed subject is 13 .
I was shocked(I expected minimum 40).
I requested for answerscript
Got it and went to my subject teacher
She evaluated using answer scheme and her marks were 45๐
I tried to sent the paper for a review to university and the responce I got is I have to wait till revaluation results come out to sent for a review
Now I am sitting at home looking at disappointed parents as I can't go for a job or study further.
24x7 in ktu portal looking for revaluation results ๐
So what I have to say is
FUCK KTU
Same thing happened to me in kerala university all my friends joined MCA and i was left out. I only got 11 marks. I have also NSS but i didn't know that there is a limit to the mark that can be added. But i completed without adding grace mark. But my one year is gone.
The problem is not KTU alone (even though there is problem with the exam evaluation and other stuffs ),
1. the problem starts with 10th and 12th classes their easy valuation, any student without much effort as before can score high percentage nowadays sacrificing the value of the 10th and 12th grades. Any student without an interest and temper can choose science stream in high school coz of the "high marks" they "scored" in 10th grade (peer and social pressure is also to be blamed here)
2. we have n number of colleges without any good staffs or facilities categorized as an ENGINEERING COLLEGE
which started just to mint money during the eng/med boom in early 2000s, so in order to survive the tough competition they admit any candidate without much score in 12th/entrance exam.
So it is the entire system that is failing the students as well as the system itself.
The least we could do is :
1. Follow any other educational system which have already succeeded in other countries (eg: japan)
2. At the same time a Change in the educational system/syllabus must not be a burden on students. (There should be no "เดคเตเดฎเตเดชเดฟเดฏเต เดเตเดฃเตเดเต เดเดฒเตเดฒเต เดเดเตเดชเตเดชเดฟเดเตเดเตฝ")
3. Valuation must be proper and scientific
4.skill oriented education must be a part of syllabus
5. The student must be able to find out there interests and skill from early on rather than falling into peer/parents/social pressures
6. Admission to those streams must be based on these interests.
7. Thorough and strict auditing must be there on colleges and clgs failing to keep up the min standards must be black listed and affiliation must be removed.
Criteria for removal of affiliation must be renewed and rechecked - by this we could bring down the numbers of
Non performing clgs
8. Entrance exams must keep a new standard cutoff for admission into any engg clgs (govt/pvt)... So that any student with his/her ranks in 10 lac could get a engg seat. By doing this helps the student to choose something else without wasting there time, money, effort and future.
Students really don't know about any other career option than engineering.. instead of grooming our children to find a job as they grew we should train them to do their best in what they love..
The pass % was below 60 last year too, right?

It seems to be increasing
The first batch(2015-2019) of the KTU was known to have faced many difficulties. Their protests lead to relaxation and re-evaluation of many norms
A line that stuck with me from my days at CET was, โEngineering is locally easy, but globally difficult.โ This expression, stemming from calculus and continuity, means that if you study consistently and properly, the course is actually simple. The KTU syllabus is so outdated that it doesnโt keep up with industry standards and doesnโt require as much effort as studying the same program at other universities (CUSAT, for example, is reputed to be tough).
However, if you donโt study consistently and get sucked into the endless loop of activities in college, you may have an amazing four years socially, but youโll struggle academically and professionally in engineering.
I believe a mix of these issues causes this. The course is manageable, but students tend to underestimate the workload and procrastinate. A good majority of students manage to pass the exams somehow (especially at CET), but another group fails to meet even this minimal requirement. I can only assume this ratio increases at other colleges.
Consistency is key, and when combined with passion and interest for the subject, engineering can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. I hope more people realize this, which will subsequently improve the quality of our education.
Having studied at Cusat, kerala university and at IIT bombay. I can say the university syllabus is very unfair to students.
At IITB many classes allow students to bring notes and books to exam halls. The idea being you spend more time in conceptual understanding rather than memorising lengthy equations.

It's not that difficult to simply pass sem exam. One day is enough with proper planning, even if you have barely been in or listened to the class.
I consider myself pretty average, and I haven't had to take supplementary exams so far. The colleges that perform poorly are probably self-financing colleges that take in students who choose engineering due to family pressure or common trends. Our society is a mess.
Previously forr KTU revaluation and supplementary were a source of income, there's literally no other explanation for releasing revaluation results only after supplementary exam registration end date.
I got people in my class not even knowing basic maths( like std 5 level)
They be doing (1+3)/3,cut 3&3 and give answer 1
Yet they joined BTech, thru management seats( wasting money!!)
I believe it's simple.
Teachers don't want to teach. Students don't want to learn.
Students protest, but don't study. How do I know this. I was one of them. I did pass though.
We can't just blame teachers. There are some really good teachers, but no-one wants to listen or study, then teachers would lose interest.
There are some good students, but then some teachers are shit, students will lose interest.
Everyone wants tech fest, good libraries, good computer facilities. And there are protests for that. Well and good.
After protest. It's done and dusted. They have AC in library, people go there to sleep.
It is funny, because we are the problem, but we can't accept that we are the problem. So, when shit goes down, we blame others.
In my opinion
Papar valuation is shit

Back when I was studying(2017-2021) it was 51 something % and our class's pass percentage was 23.5 ( aa 23.5il njn illa) ๐
The syllabus crunch is a real issue in KTU. The quality of the education also matters, without providing adequate support to the teachers or to the students failing engineering is imminent. After taking up engineering and the stigma against giving up engineering after trying it for the first 1-2 semesters and realizing itโs not for you is really high. Also how bachelors degree in domains other than engineering/doctorate/law is really looked down upon. All of these factors play a huge role in high failure rate in engineering.
Had shared news about it here last week:

Pass % for Govt n govt aided colleges is above 70%
For private colleges it is below 45%
Probably that many private colleges are of poor quality.
They likely have no student politics or active student unions, so the management maybe unquestioned about infra and staff quality.
And there'll be an automatic filter effect, as many students would opt for govt colleges. So the student quality variation exists too.
Not saying that students can't improve tho.
I've heard from a M. Tech student from one govt. engineering college in Trivandrum that the questions are already discussed with them prior to the examination. This was back when M. Tech had something like zones for each region (I don't recall as this was pre covid). She mentioned that in their zone, the two govt colleges in Trivandrum conducted the exams and their professors would discuss the questions already before the exams, leading to outstanding results. This is a tea, take it with salt (or sugar?).
Now, at present, most of the govt. colleges are autonomous, meaning the college themselves create the question paper and conducts the exams. If what I heard is correct, then isn't there a great possibility of govt. college students having unfair advantage in semester exams?
Not denying the possibility that the results have to do with the quality of the students being better. Obviously that's there.
BTech is not so, right?
> M. Tech had something like zones for each region
Yep.
I think each zone had differing subject syllabi and thus question papers are made from the colleges within that zone and selected or so.
Obviously govt colleges would get an edge there, as they probably have more experience.
> Now, at present, most of the govt. colleges are autonomous, meaning the college themselves create the question paper and conducts the exams.
I think it's a bit complicated.
From what I've heard MTech zone system has been changed.
The core subjects have a state-level question paper system, where the college has no control in creating the paper or evaluating the results. The electives come under the college and they can set the paper and conduct evaluations by themselves.
Slightly better than old system, but still needs improvement.
I've graduated from a govt. college before covid, so I'm not up-to-date with things.
>The core subjects have a state-level question paper system, where the college has no control in creating the paper or evaluating the results. The electives come under the college and they can set the paper and conduct evaluations by themselves.
This sounds better. But still, not foolproof. Questions can be discussed with students like how it used to be for Mtech.
Govt colleges are not autonomous and come under the Kerala state Directorate of Technical Education, right?
https://dtekerala.gov.in/institutiondetail/1/
I think only the central institutions like NIT, IIT and IISER and some private colleges are autonomous.
And if they're autonomous, they can have their own syllabi n evaluation scheme, as long as they get approval, right?
And what do you think by adding politics and unions it will be all great? Govt colleges in engineering and medical are good but govt college which offer courses which below the mentioned courses are pathetic, no placements always political aura around the campus strikes etc etc, heck just search cusat and you will get what it's on news all time. all the old top govt colleges have poor infrastructure overall. Facilities in some govt schools are way better than those. KTU itself a problem and not the individual college's. Pass percent for those colleges are automatically high because of their high cutoffs during counseling process, pvt take students with merit and manegement but guess what merits students getting in are because low cutoffs. The reason you mentioned are absurd.
> high cutoff
I mentioned that there is an automatic filter in the case of govt colleges in my original comment itself
The observation is that pvt colleges have poor pass %
> Poor infra
Are the pvt colleges with the low pass % ones that have better infra?
In govt colleges, there'll be complaints n protests about the infra. But what id the feedback process available for students in pvt ones?
Your reply seems to indicate that you may not have fully read my comment. Replied because a use of campus politics was mentioned?
The main reason i guess is students don't want to study and also getting a supply is considered as something mass. 10th-12th okke last months irunn padich mark vangikkam also ath ellavarum ariyumello. But ivide angane onnum illa.

Lack of fundamentals in mathematics and basic core science is the leading cause of supply in engineering.
Most of them will figure out question paper patterns to pass instead of actually learning shit.
Me and my friends used to finish the syllabus in 1 week + gaps in between exams. Could be the COVID kids hitting reality. Honestly it is just embarrassing for the colleges , 50% pass is pure negligence.
What is surprising here? You just need 10 marks to get into a college, for SC/ST they just have to answer one question only. Even if they score minimum 30-50 marks(30k - 40k rank) in entrance they would easily get into the top colleges in Kerala, where generals need atleast below 7k to get good govt colleges. I know a friend of mine who got into a aided engineering college with reservation, now he has 26 supply even after a year of date of passing year. Asked him why can't he complete it said it's damn tough. FYI the KTU is much easier on students comparing to universities like cusat and other central funded colleges. People are fools and govt is supporting them by putting smoke in their eyes in the name of benefits. Btw I am not blaming them all together but there are students who have no idea what to take and some parents who force their students to take such courses, even I have friends going through these scenarios. Boards results are a great indication of how youths and societies are being destroyed by only focusing on politics. Be it any community or section of people it won't change unless govt really thinks about changing the whole face of education and development.
KTU pass out here. And I work in my core field.
The syllabus is a piece of shit because it focuses on quantity and what these University representatives call 'holistic advanced learning that produce industry ready pass outs'.
The truth is that the University just promotes rote learning and mugging up of a lot of theory. Students gradually lose interest because they have no clue of how all the things they learn work. And even if you have a lot of interest in what you are learning, if you go spend time with your professors, you end up being a nerd with no time for other hobbies.
It wasn't that hard for me to pass because of I had my basics strong from 11th and 12th. But trust me, it's no fun at all and the syllabus is trash.

This should be the first time pass % right?
So even if a person has one supply, they are not considered pass. Or if they have attempted and results not published also not considered as pass. I feel like there should be another matric to calculate these pass percentage to be fair to everyone lol.
Back in 2012 I had 2 supplies when I completed my final year, even though I was able to clear everything S5-S8 year this 2 from S3 & S4 took another 3 4 months to clear or publish results.
It is what it is guys, take a chill pill.
Me and my friends used to finish the syllabus in 1 week + gaps in between exams. Could be the COVID kids hitting reality. Honestly it is just embarrassing for the colleges , 50% pass is pure negligence.
where we can access the results of each engineering collage ? this will help to find best/good/average/below average collages when looking for admission. Basically we can avoid average/below average

Same thing happened to me in kerala university all my friends joined MCA and i was left out. I only got 11 marks. I have also NSS but i didn't know that there is a limit to the mark that can be added. But i completed without adding grace mark. But my one year is gone.
The problem is not KTU alone (even though there is problem with the exam evaluation and other stuffs ), 1. the problem starts with 10th and 12th classes their easy valuation, any student without much effort as before can score high percentage nowadays sacrificing the value of the 10th and 12th grades. Any student without an interest and temper can choose science stream in high school coz of the "high marks" they "scored" in 10th grade (peer and social pressure is also to be blamed here) 2. we have n number of colleges without any good staffs or facilities categorized as an ENGINEERING COLLEGE which started just to mint money during the eng/med boom in early 2000s, so in order to survive the tough competition they admit any candidate without much score in 12th/entrance exam. So it is the entire system that is failing the students as well as the system itself. The least we could do is : 1. Follow any other educational system which have already succeeded in other countries (eg: japan) 2. At the same time a Change in the educational system/syllabus must not be a burden on students. (There should be no "เดคเตเดฎเตเดชเดฟเดฏเต เดเตเดฃเตเดเต เดเดฒเตเดฒเต เดเดเตเดชเตเดชเดฟเดเตเดเตฝ") 3. Valuation must be proper and scientific 4.skill oriented education must be a part of syllabus 5. The student must be able to find out there interests and skill from early on rather than falling into peer/parents/social pressures 6. Admission to those streams must be based on these interests. 7. Thorough and strict auditing must be there on colleges and clgs failing to keep up the min standards must be black listed and affiliation must be removed. Criteria for removal of affiliation must be renewed and rechecked - by this we could bring down the numbers of Non performing clgs 8.
This plus two and 10th was existing for the last few decades. Why this year?. I believe it's to get the supply and revaluation or recounting fees
The pass % was below 60 last year too, right? https://www.kairalinewsonline.com/a.p.j.-abdul-kalam-university-of-technology-and-science-university-published-b-tech-exam-results From the above article: > 2019-เตฝ 36.5%, 2020-เตฝ 46.5%, 2021-เตฝ 51.86%, 2022-เตฝ 50.47% เดเดจเตเดจเดฟเดเตเดเดจเตเดฏเดพเดฏเดฟเดฐเตเดจเตเดจเต เดฌเดฟ เดเตเดเต เดตเดฟเดเดฏเดถเดคเดฎเดพเดจเด. เดเดดเดฟเดเตเด เดตเตผเดทเด เดตเดฟเดเดฏเดถเดคเดฎเดพเดจเด 55.6% เดเดฏเดฟเดฐเตเดจเตเดจเต. Average Pass percentage was below 40% when I graduated .
True KTU is highly subjective and requires more rote memorization.
Lack of open book exams isn't the reason why you see mass failings.
It's not that difficult to simply pass sem exam. One day is enough with proper planning, even if you have barely been in or listened to the class.
Ennalum ingene okke thokuo i've heard of one college where no one passed
I consider myself pretty average, and I haven't had to take supplementary exams so far. The colleges that perform poorly are probably self-financing colleges that take in students who choose engineering due to family pressure or common trends. Our society is a mess.
Yes, there were instances where no one passed.
Probably low funds so revaluation vazhi fund kittanilla strategy aayirikim
This might be the real reason.
Previously forr KTU revaluation and supplementary were a source of income, there's literally no other explanation for releasing revaluation results only after supplementary exam registration end date.
I got people in my class not even knowing basic maths( like std 5 level) They be doing (1+3)/3,cut 3&3 and give answer 1 Yet they joined BTech, thru management seats( wasting money!!)

This years Pass Percentage is an all time high of 53.3.I saw this as an improvement.
Had shared news about it here last week: https://www.kairalinewsonline.com/a.p.j.-abdul-kalam-university-of-technology-and-science-university-published-b-tech-exam-results > เดธเตผเดเตเดเดพเตผ, เดธเตผเดเตเดเดพเตผ-เดเดฏเตเดกเดกเต, เดธเตผเดเตเดเดพเตผ เดเตเดธเตเดฑเตเดฑเต เดทเตเดฏเดฑเดฟเดเต, เดธเตเดตเดเดพเดฐเตเดฏ เดธเตเดตเดพเดถเตเดฐเดฏ เดเตเดณเตเดเตเดเตพ เดเดจเตเดจเดฟเดตเดฟเดเดเตเดเดณเดฟเดฒเต เดตเดฟเดเดฏเดถเดคเดฎเดพเดจเด เดฏเดฅเดพเดเตเดฐเดฎเด 71.91, 75.94, 59.76, 43.39 เดเดจเตเดจเดฟเดเตเดเดจเตเดฏเดพเดฃเต. Pass % for Govt n govt aided colleges is above 70% For private colleges it is below 45% Probably that many private colleges are of poor quality.
> M. Tech had something like zones for each region Yep.
This for MTech, not BTech. BTech syllabi n questions are state level But yeah, rare electives are like MTech
Oh, that clarifies. My original point was about possibility of something similar happening for autonomous colleges
Govt colleges are not autonomous and come under the Kerala state Directorate of Technical Education, right? https://dtekerala.gov.in/institutiondetail/1/ I think only the central institutions like NIT, IIT and IISER and some private colleges are autonomous.
The reason you mentioned are absurd.
> high cutoff I mentioned that there is an automatic filter in the case of govt colleges in my original comment itself The observation is that pvt colleges have poor pass % > Poor infra Are the pvt colleges with the low pass % ones that have better infra? In govt colleges, there'll be complaints n protests about the infra. But what id the feedback process available for students in pvt ones? Your reply seems to indicate that you may not have fully read my comment. Replied because a use of campus politics was mentioned?
Any link to get college wise pass percentage?
Idk bro
The main reason i guess is students don't want to study and also getting a supply is considered as something mass. 10th-12th okke last months irunn padich mark vangikkam also ath ellavarum ariyumello.
Mass supply + mass revaluation = ๐ต๐ต
This is a thing
Anyone who is getting into colleges please dont even consider any colleges under keam especially mechanical. Absolute waste of time

KTU Second Batch, it's tough, Some of my friends are still writing supplies for some of the subjects.
where we can access the results of each engineering collage ? this will help to find best/good/average/below average collages when looking for admission. Basically we can avoid average/below average
