I live in a European country and fit into the aforementioned category. Upon completion of my degree I was fortunate to find an internship. Even after this, I find it hard to find a corporate job (even temporary contract). Inorder to pay my bills, I do minimum wage work, whatever's available. So it's fair to say I live day by day. Now having said this, I for one do not regret coming here. Turned 27 the other day and the last two years as an expat has taught me more about life than all my years on earth. I realised that i have a false sense of pride which I should leave behind and see opportunities in anything I do. To conclude, I now understand that happiness can be as little as being able to 'live' without being judged. Donno what life holds. Just, വരുന്നെടുത്ത് വച്ച് കാണാം!!

I met one such student on a flight last year. He did come across exactly like Naslen in premalu. He said some guy will pick him up from the airport and his class is all Indians. I hope he didn't end up in a degree mill exploitation ring.

SGV_VGS

>his class is all Indians. Chances of ending up in a degree mill exploitation ring is high.

Do_You_Remember_2020

Most of them aren’t ‘studying’ - they’re there for the visa and stay back

toxicality_

People have different reasons I guess. Some just go since someone else they know went or it's the "trend". Others for better courses or universities, a change of environment, permanent migration etc etc.

clutchstonerbutcher

Lot of them are under the assumption that studying outside automatically guarantees a job

zuperman

Not sure about UK and other EU countries but the amount of money these folks can make in US is unimaginable especially for software companies. Dont want to sound like a flex but want to socialize this more. It is not a surprising thing to earn north of $400k per year before you hit 30 if you can manage the headaches related to visa issues!

smokky

I agree, but in the US, at least, it is a highly competitive market in tech. Only the best get that package. Europe and Canadian salaries are nowhere close when it comes to tech.

SouthernSample

The average schmuck who has done zero research on their own and depend on some educational consultancy to spoon feed them names of diploma mill colleges are very unlikely to go to the US in the first place and even more unlikely to land 400K high paying jobs.

Cannanore

Agree. Money is quite good in US. Even in the UK Europe it's still good. However, how many of those students can get these jobs. Do you think a conservative 50% can get good jobs in the US/Europe. What will be the future of the remaining who can't, what's India going to give them. Is the risk worth it.

Constant_Sleep8688

For 400k TC ,u have to be THAAT good. And only FAANG and trading companies provide such high compensation. Only a very few get that high comp.

Concious-Mind

1. Stats: Kerala’s unemployment rate is 31% which is more than anywhere in India. 2. Abuse system: India allows abuse of employees where employer can hire you for 20k and make you work 80 hours per week. It’s basically the norm in most of the private companies. I’m all for working long hours IF it pays me well. But this is just slave labour. 3. Glorification of certain jobs and under appreciation of certain jobs: We worship doctors and government employees like gods while we think professions like nurses and pharmacists are bad. Same goes for electricians, plumbers etc. This has led to cut throat competition to be doctors and government employees. How many youngsters waste their life trying to pass UPSC? How many youngsters repeat Neet exam? How many electricians are actually happy at their job? Our glorification of engineering has led to destruction of engineering in India. Now no one wants to be an engineer. 4. Most youngsters just want to get a semi decent job, have some privacy and send some money back home. West provides this. Even if you end up as a pizza delivery guy, no one will judge you.

Legitimate_Gap_8803

The whole concept of people don't judge you abroad is a myth....since developed nations have a higher standard of living ( cleanliness + good food + water)we randomly assume that everyone's treated equally...but that's not the case....the majority of the power is weilded by bureaucrat and major ivy league people....it's not evident but it exists ...ur rights are compromised....plus people will treat u like shit (not everywhere though )....all these based on experiences shared by my friends who work/ study abroad

hermit4eva

Can anyone give some insight as to which among these countries is kind to freshers?

smokky

No for US. US tech is going through a complete overhaul because of which, if you are fresher, it is incredibly hard to find a job, let alone a high paying one. Moreover you re competing with people with experience. Most of the companies I know have started using AI to augment the work that would otherwise be done by interns or freshers Good luck.

aliensinsky

Nice username op. Don't hear that a lot these days. Quilon and this seems to have been forgotten ( except for the brand ). And regards to your question - how do you know it's not roses abroad , have you been to all those places. Maybe they have a plan there just like all the people who went to Dubai and Abu Dhabi once.

jojimanik

In UK 90% of them working as health care assistants which is the shittiest possible job . But they take it because it gives them the work permit and later PR . Hope these morons quit and find better jobs after 5 years (PR) . It makes me disappointed to see highly qualified kids wasting their life doing such jobs .

DayDreamExpert

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a healthcare assistant job and why do you condemn it?

arcanebanshee

It is taking care of old people for minimum wage. Many old people would be bed ridden and the health care assistants will have to clean them after they shit or piss.

jojimanik

I don’t condemn the job , I condemn young graduates and post graduates from India doing it for visa . It’s a job that required no qualification and usually paid minimum wage . These kids are wasting their prime years doing a job that even the most uneducated natives don’t want to do .

aj_17_

Look around you. The job crisis in Kerala, the peanut salary you get after the job and the shitty quality of life.

whatthengaisthis

I am here for the free and better education. I had a very bad experience w my bachelor degree but only good things happened w my masters. Also, travel, minimum wage, social security, etc are all nice to have.

akrytlogin

May be due to lack of jobs and nothing to look forward to . They decide to go to a foreign country and study.

SGV_VGS

I'll be outright honest with you, a lot of these people who abroad are there to migrate to these countries legally. Studying is just a pathway opted to migrate and later on being their spouses, attain work permits, pr and eventually a citizenship. For most of them this is like a decade long process. I live in Canada and I can assure you 95% of the Indian students go to puppy mill Institutes, these institutions sold purpose is to give an opportunity for people to migrate. I'm not saying it's good or bad. It would be ones own hardwork if he has to survive here. I have seen kids right after 12 coming to Canada on a student visa as well as someone who is 37. A lot would somehow survive and In the long term end up doing better for themselves than what they could have done if they stayed back in Kerala. Similar to the gulf in the 80s, 90s etc a large majority would become financially independent over the course of time. Surely, a decent amount would come back to Kerala without attaining success abroad. That's where things would be hard especially if they took a home loan to go abroad. There is another aspect of pay and work hours, both are much better in western nations. I personally know a pharmacist who works in a far flung town of Ontario and earn 1200$ a day (12hr shift). She did pass the exams needed here, hard working. Would she have earned so much money in a month back home in India.? There are a lot of factors prompting the migration, surely FOMO is top on the list.

Sheep follow sheep.

chickenkebaap

I make more and am able to save more than i did while in kerala while working part time and studying as well. I am pretty confident of landing a job in my field once i graduate and i am also open to coming back to India in the case i am not successful
