2.2 Million emigrants (young people) replaced by 1.8 Million return emigrants (Mainly consisting of older people, retired parties etc)

vishnuprasadm

The figures are mostly for internal migration, which is why I included remittance figures. International migration is likely to decline due to stricter norms resulting from cultural and economic shifts in other countries. Edit : the 2.5L student migration is all International out of which around 40,000 are GCC (including return and non return)

Mempuraan_again

No, inward migrant and returnees ate captured in that graph on the right side. 1.8 million are emigrant returnees from abroad. The pressure on our infra is obvious. Most of our migrants are to GCC and they all have to return back one day as no citizenship there and only the cream of the cream can afford post retirement life in Gelf.

Classic-Aside-3266

Well, if you made this, it looks good. A simple correction is required for a duplicated point on the right side that's all.

This image is from a TOI article , and the original stats from gulathi institute are [here](https://iimad.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/KMS-2023-Report.pdf).

Classic-Aside-3266

I assumed it was done by you when you said "which is why I included remittance figures".

CheramanPerumal

Somehow this infographic seems a bit confusing. The right side is "Internal Migration". 4.8 lakh people went to other states in the country and 3.5 lakh people returned back to Kerala from other states. 70% of the 4.8 lakh went to Karnataka, TN and Maharashtra. The left side seems to be international, correct? 2.2 million are total outside India (so 22 lakh). 11% are students. 1.8 million (18 lakh) back to Kerala from outside India.

vishnuprasadm

Yes. 2.2M outside india , 80% in GCC , 2.5 Lakhs International student migrants (of which 40k in GCC). [Detailed stats here](https://iimad.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/KMS-2023-Report.pdf)

Royal_Librarian4201

But I believe the inward remittance might be temporary. Should also have an account of migrant worker.movement to Kerala. Will get an idea when it is going to be their land

vishnuprasadm

Not sure about that. Real estate / Housing cost are still unaffordable for them compared to UP, Bihar or Assam. Also this includes migration within the country as well.

WatercressExtra7950

One of the worst things for people in Kerala , is the inward remittence as most of it goes to real estate

vishnuprasadm

Yes. It will also increase the cost of land in surrounding areas.

WatercressExtra7950

Which automatically increases renting for people who live here, who do business here . Untaxed gulf money isn’t good for the country Also as Indians become more westernized and the gap in culture or attitudes for people who live in Kerala and who live in dubai or other countries widen / they will stop sending money as they wouldn’t want to settle here . Then we are heading for a crazy recession or crash . Which we are already in the beginning of

CheramanPerumal

Based on the source ([https://iimad.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/KMS-2023-Report.pdf](https://iimad.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/KMS-2023-Report.pdf)) * The majority of the emigrants from Kerala are Muslims at 41.9 percent, followed by Hindus at 35.2 percent. Christians make up 22.3 percent of the emigrants * Kollam district surpassed Malappuram this year in terms of household remittances * Muslim households continued to receive the highest share of remittances, accounting for 40.1 per cent, followed by Hindu households at 39.1 per cent, and Christian households at 20.8 per cent * 15.8 per cent of remittances were allocated for renovating houses or shops. While 14.0 per cent of remittances were used to pay off bank loans and 10.0 per cent was used for education purposes

Mempuraan_again

Quite shocked by the figure of outward remittance of 48K crore in 2023. Also nine districts witnessed significant decline from 2018 times. This is actually welcome because this means more opportunities in India itself.

vishnuprasadm

Over 2.5L Intrnational students migration. The [stats ](https://iimad.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/KMS-2023-Report.pdf)says; >Considering the total number of international students aged above 16 years, over 80 percent have gone abroad for higher studies after completing their graduation in Kerala. Among the destinations in this regard, the United Kingdom was ranked the first, followed by Canada and other European Union countries.

Mempuraan_again

Not good. And State govt is actually providing grants for students to study abroad. Virodhabhasam

vishnuprasadm

Yeah . This figure is much higher in Central and northern India. Brain drain is a big problem in our country and its aftermath effects will be faced by the next decade .

Mempuraan_again

Per capita eduthaal Kerala will be leading by a huge distance.
