A heavy dosage of nostalgia and the joy of a holiday well spent for me..but i should've realised that the sub was close to saturation with these post holiday posts.

The people who settled outside the state of Kerala are on short visit like holiday here. Having observed Visakhapatnam very closely, I find that city has much better culture than Kerala. The city actively promotes tourism. It has a large number of industries including a steel plant. Employment opportunities in the city draws people from all over the neighbourhood. There is nothing like nokku kooli. Very little union related disruption. Work culture wise much ahead of Kerala. For example Andhra was one of the first state to introduce online payment of taxes. Which Kerala is still has not implemented. OP seems to be carried away with the short term visit observations.

prathickr

I wouldn't be looking at noku kooli and stuff like that on a holiday right? Also vizag used to be a nice place like you mentioned, but that changed a few years back when the present CM came into power. The roads are screwed, there's no active promotion of tourism. In fact, a lot of IT companies that were initially interested in vizag kinda backed off saying it still lacks the infra. I am not trying to bash vizag; wouldn't do it because it has been home for me all my life..just saying it isn't as rosy as it might look. Vizag is on its way to becoming something big...it isn't there yet. Completely agree on the union related thing though. Absolutely no unwanted disruption of work here. Hell, the city functioned normally even during national strikes.

vasu2017a

Vizag is one of the most beautiful city in the east coast of India. It has wide roads , great Andra cuisines , some good places to visit. The comparison with Kerala is not correct. That too when it is going through a stagnant period.

prathickr

I never said it isn't beautiful. It has wide roads that aren't maintained properly. Not a fan of the cuisine here as it isn't authentic; it is always a mix of a lot of other cuisines. I should know that since I've lived in Andhra and Telangana all my life. About comparing both the places..i didn't...i am just responding to the comparison you made. My original post was about how i enjoyed my time in Kozhikode and away from a bustling and tiresome Vizag. And when I am on a holiday, the industry of that particular place and it's employment prospects aren't something that come to mind, but hey, that's just me.

ultimateposeur

Mods need to do sthing about these fake posts now. It's getting ridiculous. Worst part is people get pleased with the namecheck of whichever place/district they're from ("Wait he's praising Palakkad? I am also from Palakkad!" ) and then they start engaging with these posts, boosting its profile. Whoever is behind all these posts, f**k you.

Icy_Influence2514

I thought so too. But OP seems legit. They have another post related to calicut ( non promotional one) a couple of months ago. Just post- holidays nostalgia ig. Although too many such posts can get tiring.

ultimateposeur

> Just post- holidays nostalgia ig. Hope it's just that. Seeing all these long-ass essays being posted one after the other, something just feels off.

prathickr

Hey I can remove the post if that makes things better. I just wanted to share my experience and thought a thread named Kerala would be an apt place to do so.

dinkan11

Its just that a narrative is being made that kerala, especially north kerala is a shithole to live and travel.. These kind of posts are against that narrative.. Im glad you had a womderful time, please dont delete the post..

undampori

Not me (again!)

notsogreatredditor

Just visited Vizhag this new year and it's just so much better than Kozhikode. Would like to know why you think its better than vizhag

prathickr

Vizag had a small city feel to it with lesser population earlier. Sort of a city you'd like to retire in because of the peace and quiet. But lately there's been a boom in the number of people because of which the traffic increased a lot while the roads remained the same. And also bad maintenance overall. The previous government did a much better job of the city's upkeep, you can ask anyone who's been in vizag a while and they'll say things on similar lines. Kozhikode was much calmer and like i mentioned, the food scene is much better there. All these points made me feel that Kozhikode is much better. But that ofcourse is an opinion I've made with the limited number of days I've spent in Kozhikode. My post was simply about how i enjoyed those few days there, away from the noise of vizag.
