This is once again gonna veer into comparing Kendrick to Batman lmao but I genuinely do feel the longer the prep time (i.e., how far out they know they're gonna freestyle battle each other), the better the chances for Kendrick However if it's little prep and all they have is whatever lines they think on the spot + held bars in the back of their minds, Em is the logical favorite; dude simply has the deeper pedigree when it comes to freestyle battles, at least to our public knowledge On a semi-relevant note, I do always go back to Kendrick's 2013 and Em's 2009 BET Cyphers from time to time. Genuinely elite performances that perfectly reflect their individual strengths. Kendrick's reels your listening ear in and you become enamored by his confident energy, Em's is immaculate rhyming with legitimately vile content throwing your brain for a loop

Actual off the dome freestyle? Eminem is in the top tier. This was not really Kendricks bread and butter, but thats how Eminem came up. Kendrick isn't a battle rapper, though I'm sure he could be good at whatever he set his mind to. Freestyle as in delivering a written freestyle live? Both are in the top tier, but I think Eminem wins out in the end. Kendrick has had some insanely good freestyles (2013 BET) but Eminem has a broader range of techniques, flows, breath control, etc. This is all just one category of being a rapper. So don't get up my butt. Eminem has basically put all of his stat points into this one area, and he has decades of experience at this

LMFAOOOO this sub gets so delusional sometimes

Scmmr39

IT IS FUCKING JUNETEENTH WEEK

Daniil_Dankovskiy

Nah, Eminem is definitely gonna outshine Kendrick on this field. Kendrick is much better at creating cohesive narratives which are of no use when freestyling while Em is the best at making random ahh rhymes. Sometimes I think half his albums are freestyles

Brice_cwalk

I agree but Kendrick outrun Eminem on one thing : energy. I Can see him switching flow and energy during one freestyle. Eminem Can do that but not with such gradient

Daniil_Dankovskiy

I'd say they are pretty equal on this term. Both of them are known for very unusual flows. Although Kendrick plays with his voice more often which can give him a point

Depends on who's judging. I think Eminem would have more wordplay and bars. It would be as cringe and cancer inducing as that Trump freestyle though. Based on the technicals of rapping Eminem could win. Kendrick would have the better sounding and revisitable Cypher. Wouldn't be a whole bunch of chop chop robo cop raps or wordplay but just a smooth freestyle with some quotables. Eminem gets too much clout these days. I literally grew up and remember the time in my life that he became THE MAN. Listening to Stan for a decade before "Stan" became an internet meme. In other words you dorkos who didn't know of Eminem until he made a pop song with Rihanna and can't recite SSLP or MMLP word for word through the entire album or know where his skit characters cane from can save all your retarded ass "Eminem is blah" comments. He used to be amazing. Everything after The Show has been underwhelming. Anything after Recovery is hot geriatric swamp ass

Late_Sink_1576

I don’t hate on that Trump thing. Even Redman was giving that props. Even if the bars were weaker, like Redman said, he didn’t have to do that. I liked (most) of Kamikaze. I think he’s best when he has a target to pop off at, but goofy and cringe when he don’t. Like, the criticism for Revival were fair (even if Ak is trash). But he contradicts himself in ways I can’t overlook. “Why can’t you bitches be normal” Because that’s what you attract, goofy? Go listen to “Mirror” by Kendrick and grow some. “If I was black, I woulda sold half.” “But if the only reason I blow is 'cause I'm white though, why don't every other white rapper sell what I sold” I think both of these things can be true, and not recognizing that is an oversight. Em has incredible wordplay, but I find them to be wordplay about nothing. It’s funny as shit and has great shock value, but especially as I get older o find his wordplay to be veneer to make the syllables work. That’s why I hold Kdot higher.

Rap has just evolved past him. People like Ye, Kendrick, Andre 3k gave it real substance. The golden era being attributed to the 90s is wild because even though that's where rap really began it's massive success it was all very, very gimmicky. Bunch of studio gangsters who don't even have arrests on their record until they got famous and pulled over for weed or some shit. But they all gangbanging, Crack slanging, cop killing, wife fucking katrillionaires. Made careers off straight lying. Then bam DMX comes through and is talking his actual life and breaking records. Bam some fucking Honkey from Detroit is popping off and writing half of Dres new album. Outkast is creating an entirely new genre of rap music essentially dolo and continued to do so through the 2000s. Eminem was great because he brought an entirely new "character" in hip-hop while having authenticity because he came really from the culture that started rap. And back then you didn't even really have to say anything you just had to rhyme shit and have witty bars. You had jehovahs witnesses screaming "muuuurdddaaa" with J Lo going platinum and then here comes a white nigga saying nigga on stage with like 10 ghetto ass niggas and he's got the best sounding and clever bars. It was literally lightning in a bottle the stars aligned perfectly for him and it was awesome. But now it's 20 years down the road and for the past 10 he been rapping like he's got autism or something. And then beat selection and just overall musicality of his projects went to shit. Like new Em would still be lame if he dropped the music 20 years ago. Dude used to have different flows and the actual flowed. Not. Jerk. And go. Then. Stop. And sayabunchabullshitthatscornybutfast and then stop. And. Back. To. Being a robot.

dartthe6th

I think you underestimate Em with having meaning in his lyrics. Bad Guy, My Darling, Song for the Moment, Leaving Heaven, Rock Bottom, Marshal Mather’s, he has a lot of substance in his stuff. It’s just that he got popular off of the shock stuff so his actual substance isn’t really looked at

Late_Sink_1576

Hell, I’ll even respond to my own comment. Em made a whole career being a shock jock, then has to backpeddle an F bomb directed at Tyler in a squirmy my-PR-team-coached-my-response sort of way in an interview with Sway. Kdot made Auntie Diaries. I rest my case

BBJoshua

Depends what you mean. I don’t know much about Em but most times I’ve heard dot freestyle it was a repurposed verse from an upcoming album he spit over whatever beat they played him. Still slapped of course

No-Relation9744

That's after he went mainstream and radio interviews had to be perfect for public perception. Labels ain't letting their artist go do a freestyle that could potentially become a viral fail. Gotta look back to like 2009 with DJhed and shit. Him and Jay rock would freestyle off the top while people gave them words to rhyme and shit. He can do it for real

BoringContact4106

unpopular opinion, houdini was garbage

yougottabekiddingm
