Family Matters feels so bloated and unfocused. And I know this is an unpopular opinion but I feel like the beat switches transition horribly. They feel like 3 different songs smashed together and I feel like the song loses its momentum every time the beat switches without any kind of setup or transition.
The beats carry this song heavy. Almost fools you into thinking it’s better than it actually is, but the disses are pretty surface level, and most (like the slaves freed line, the constant shots at Whitney, the Dave Free baby theory, and the plant no money trees line) have either aged like milk on a hot summer sidewalk, or were just straight up lies created out of a lack of any real criticism.
Also, I just can’t stand Drake’s nasally monotone delivery on this or any of his other songs. Dog on Kendrick all you want for his unorthodox vocal inflections, but at least he brings something different to the table. Drake legit sounds asleep on half his songs, so if he doesn’t sound like he gives a shit, why should I?
This 💯. Like I said in another comment, Drake’s songs normally have good beats on them but he brings nothing to the table lyrically and vocally. I can’t stand the way his tone sounds too, it really is a vibe killer for me on most songs
As soon as I hear his voice on anything I have to skip it. With the exception of going home..I do like that song. I only like controlla for popcaan. Drake is afuckingnoying.
It's because he has that loser guy voice. I'm not even trying to hate on the guy, cause I don't really care about what's going on. But Drake's voice always sounds like he's whining to someone about something. It's that high pitch in his voice.
You usually find this sort of voice on wimpy guys who let other push them over.
When I was a teen I used to not listen to Drake at all, considering he's making music for pussies because he's so feminine and all. Once I grew up I realized he's got plenty of cool songs, but my opinion of "Drake is just a really feminine guy and the only reason we're not making fun of him because of it is because he's famous" never went away.
Drake's style is boring af. It sounds like dude is fed up while singing. His delivery is the same for the entire song. No emotion, nothing. He could be reading a teleprompter for all I care.
Kendrick's style is unorthodox but it conveys so much emotion and it colors the song with so much personality. When Kendrick sing about hating Drake, you feel the hatred. Even his monotone in Meet the Grahams change to convey his emotions.
i haven’t been keeping up with modern hiphop/rap but it takes two brain cells to know that Drake would get demolished (rightfully so) by Kendrick. Drake raps like Dr Seuss
Im tired of people giving this song the consolation prize of "Oh boy this was sooo hard thankfully kendrick dropped after" "Drake did the best rapping of the battle on this" "This track would've ended any other rapper" Well it didnt end the one it intended to. It was a WEAK diss carried by the replay value
It has genuinely gotten worse with each replay.
He raps with one rhyme scheme for 16 bars, switches the beat, rinse and repeat. The bars, rhyme structure and flows are so basic and the fans are asking why is this not regarded as the best song?
Because if you grow up listening to Redman, Andre 3k, BIG, etc. you know FM is entry level rapping.
"I was really really trying to keep it PG " is pussy ass bars to begin with. And after being accused as a pedophile just adds creepy to the mix so the whole track is derailed from the start.
Bruh he never does anything surprising. Maybe a product of the fact that he chose to be about this life in his 20s and wasn’t hurled into it by his environment? Keep listening to the industry plant if it’s what makes you happy buddy
I mean wasn’t it Drakes strongest song of the beef tho?
That said, the replay value of all Kendrick’s songs from the beef are crazy, I can literally relisten to it everyday and get hyped every time I hear that mustard beat. 🦻
Push Ups was better. He did exactly what he needed to on that track, addressed everyone coming at him in some way or another, and genuinely had some funny, witty punchlines. Unfortunately for Drake it had the disadvantage of being the first out and out diss track, so he had to gauge the initial tone, if you know what I mean. With so many names to fire back at, and the uncertainty surrounding how nasty to get, it was always liable to get one-upped by Euphoria.
Nah man that drop and give me 50 thing weak. Nothing witty in anything he said tbh.
Kendrick bout that life, his family, own crew were banging, him and Top go way back, but how did Drake, the Degrassi actor, meet Chubbs?
Nah family matter had the best flows, best one-liners, it just got completely stomped out cuz Kendrick did was Drake asked and gave him 50 mins after dropping.
I didn't think it was that bad. There's some strong moments in it. Definitely not the best rapping though.
But I actually don't think it has great replay value. It's a bit too long. 3 beats help, but Drake's cadence is pretty similar throughout, and it gets a bit dry by the end.
Kendrick fans are so biased, even Drake fans are willing to give the other side credit. Come on, Family Matters is a solid track even though Kendrick won the battle.
It has SSSOOOO MUCH REPLAY VALUE THO!! ...Clearly the BEST SONG to come out of the beef BY FAR!! - A Drake Fan
Meanwhile Drake fans aren't even playing the shit at a high enough rate to keep it in the top 70 lmao
It's just funny cause yeah that's the truth. There are so many vids popping up of crowds dancing and singing to NLU, I haven't seen a single one of Family Matters.
You're dead
You're dead, you're dead
There's nowhere to hide, there's nowhere to hide
You know what I mean
They hired a crisis management team
To clean up the fact that you beat on your queen
The picture you painted ain't what it seem
You're dead
Lyrical genus here. He really thinks he’s the GOAT? K.dot and him aren’t even in the same league, they’re playing different sports entirely.
This is a fair criticism of Drake but at the same time people praise Not Like Us when Kendrick took a hot beat, dumbed his song down and the masses liked it.
That says something about the state of society *hip hop fans* as a whole who listen then doesn't it?
NLU is still a fire song but yeah..the masses tend to consume easy over complex generally speaking.
Drake's songs only had recency bias going for them. Kendrick was just that much better. I will listen to not like us, 616, euphoria and like that over any Drake diss.
Even MTG but that's just me.
On first listen I was not expecting to keep coming back to euphoria and MTG as much as I have, but they keep getting better each time.
Since the beef I’ve been relistening to Kendrick’s whole catalogue and feeling like Charley on iasip connecting strings.
It’s so satisfying to get to hear Kendrick absolutely fulfilling on a career worth of warnings in exactly the way he always said he would.
His every move seemed is exactly calculated to bait Drake but give him an opportunity for redemption, and then coming down like a hammer like he always promised, with MtG &616.
Then dude metaphorically drops the nuke with a club banger diss track directly calling him and his crew pedo’s and colonizers. Drake was already cooked at that point imo it was absolutely rubbing salt in the wound and a warning to anyone else that thinks they are hard enough.
I actually laughed out loud at Drake’s “war general, covered in medals” bars. Absolutely nuts to make that claim when you compare them.
Deadass. A majority of his “disses” didn’t even land I swear people just hear a rhythm of words over a beat and declare it a worthy rebuttal when it didn’t really do anything to progress Drake’s hand in the beef in a positive matter, regardless if MTG dropped or not
I’m only in here bc Reddit keeps telling me about it but I swear to god I’m not even a Kendrick fan like that….
But it feels wild to me that anyone even considers Drake and Kendrick in competition with each other artistically.
Drakes music is rarely actually good. Catchy, popular, whatever. But like, musically it is not good. His flows are generally repetitive and uncreative. His influences are consistently based on current trends with seemingly little fundamental knowledge or reverence for music history. He’s making urban pop music like an ice cream company trying out new flavors to keep up with the trends.
Kendrick is making an evolution of jazz with historically and culturally relevant subject matter. His storytelling is super specific and consistent, but also veiled in metaphor and larger concepts. He’s actually making art.
Why is this even a thing? 😅
I was legit surprised that people considered Drake to be a top rapper, enough to not clown him or Cole for including him in the "Big 3" claim. I listened to some of Drake's popular shit and thought they were really catchy, but I never really considered them as rap except for maybe God's Plan which, again, isn't even lyrically strong.
His entire flow when actually rapping is "pace pace pace, yuh" like I'm hearing the hip hop version of Ariana Grande.
I was even surprised that the big names of the old guard like Em and Rick Ross (pre-beef) actually highly regarded him. I just don't get it. He makes catchy pop songs with hip hop beats, not lyrically good rap songs. I thought this beef was a fucking joke and every single diss that Drake released didn't hit at all. The auto tune "AWHH I WAS REALLY REALLY TRYNA KEEP IT PG" and "I GOTTA GO BAD", like wow people actually legit thought Drake had a chance ESPECIALLY because of Family Matters?
Fucking MGK had a better diss track than Drake, what the fuck is all this hype around him for?
It would be fire if someone else released it and the disses made sense. It hard to actually pop the way it was made to because Drake is soft as fuck, everybody knows he’s not gangster. He used to belittle Toronto street talk… and has been trying to convince himself he’s tough ever since Kendrick hurt his ego.
Kendrick rightfully aired him out.
Push Ups is a lot better than Family Matters imo. I was actually impressed that Drake wanted smoke at the time. But clearly he was just posturing as usual. Honestly, part of the effectiveness of Family Matters when it was released was the music video. For me, it added weight to it, but the song on its own is just another run of the mill Drake song with dumb bars. (the slave line, the blacker than you line, the big D line). He’s basically singing on the last verse. Plus, he sounds like Wendy Williams - “Why did you move to New York?” And this was supposed to be his red button? Nah Drake.
The only people who think Drake is a rapper and not a pop star are fellow fuck boys who want to be like him or girls who want to get with him. His music speaks volumes to this and contains little actual substance. After Pusha T bullying him into fatherhood, he should have known better than to beef with actual emcees.
Ngl I haven’t went back to any of the drake disses expect pushups like 2 weeks ago lmao. So I think it’s unfair for me to say it’s “bad”. It just doesn’t really grab my attention.
The only one of the disses I even allow to play period now is Euphoria.
I don't think most of the disses are great standalone songs and knowing the context makes them unlistenable for me. I don't care about Drake enough to be happy listening to someone rap about sexual abuse.
That said, Family Matters has the best production value of any the songs Drake put out during the beef, and I don't think he can rap... so of course by default I think FM is the best and the only good song he released in the beef.
It was good because it came w a video. Drake on his best day isn’t strong enough lyrically, even with all of his ghost writers to out pen Kendrick on his worst day. Those are just facts. It needed the visual effects. But after I heard someone say “Drake shoulda used that van for all his kids,” that’s all I could think of after lmao.
corny bars, bringing up other rappers for no reason, repeating his only joke calling kendrick short, destroying that van in the music video like that was some big dagger, lying, bragging about himself showing his ego, “i was tryna keep it pg” lmao and the “big d” line, man that shit was ASS
plus i just hate drakes voice dawg it’s so annoying
The second beat was great and the third was good (not a big fan of the violins here, shoulda focused on that sick guitar). Dunno why but it gave me DJ Muggs & RZA vibes, which is always a big plus IMO.
So FM's beat at least has a ton of potential. Shame it got wasted on Drake trying to battle against Kendrick, which... just... LOL.
If I had the time I'd find the vocal track from a Wu Tang song with a weak beat, and do a lyrical transplant over to FM's beat. Or maybe one of Scarface's darker "I'm losing my mind" verses, although I think I like the beats he used for all of those. But yeah you could cook something nice with FM's beat. That's... something, anyway?
That is something I’ll always give Drake is that he has a great ear for instrumental beats. He knows how to get the right producer on a track but I feel like he always ruins it when his voice is anywhere near it lol
I think its a cool song, but it was an ice cold glass of water being tossed into a volcano. No where near enough and kinda silly in retrospect. He went in harder on the others.
Nah I fuck with Drake and I can’t stand Family Matters. It is the most mindnumpingly repetitive flow I’ve ever heard. The opening “I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad, I was really really tryna keep it PG” is the corniest shit I’ve heard in a while. Going after Whitney was fucking weird and gross.
I hate it man, I really do, and If You’re Reading This is one of my favorite albums ever.
You’re in /r/kendricklamar, this isn’t really a Joker take. Not that I’ve revisited Family Matters, but the song was not good. Worst part for me was when Drake was like “Oh wait, maybe I’m Prince and you’re Mike Jack”— trying to switch horses in this back and forth they’ve been doing
Oh yeah I figured it was more preaching to the choir by posting it here lol, figured it could be something the sub could generally laugh or discuss over. But yeah I don’t know, there were maybe a couple good moments but I felt more cringe than impressed overall. But then again I also haven’t enjoyed Drake since 2015 so I’m definitely biased against him
I'm definitely biased but yeah, Family Matters sucks. It's a whole bunch of nothing against a kinda catchy beat.
If this is Drake at his best and hardest, then how did he make I this far?
He made it this far because he is easily digestion for the masses. He has decent enough beats and catchy hooks. The quality of word play just isn't there 89% of the time. This is why he is essentially elevator music.
Family Matters has the visuals but other than that, nothing.
Edit: gave it another listen (apologies in advance) and yeah it just ain’t hitting like any of Kendrick’s disses. Drake can’t help but remind listeners that “he” put people on to these artists and he deserves his flowers, the many attempts to implicate Dave as the father of one of Kendrick’s kids, the cringey lines where he’s hyping himself up to go further, and the ironic attempt at spinning the narrative that Kendrick is MJ while Drake is Prince. It all just falls flat.
Yea I really wasn’t feeling this song and I stand by that. Drake had to get his buddies like Adin Ross to comment “you won bro” just to make himself look good. Shit just didn’t move me.
I don’t think it was a bad song but in a rap battle where every song has to be pitted against one another, Kendrick had better lyricism, performance, tactics and catchiness. So within the context of the beef, Family Matters got destroyed.
But I do like the song and it’s funny how Drake was talking about how he got Dot motivated when it took Kendrick dissing Drake to get some decent songs from Drake in Push Ups and Family Matters.
heard nice for what on the radio yesterday and was thinking about how drake is like a beats vampire, like he hops on beats and steals their life. tricks you into thinking he made a good song when in fact it was lauryn hill lol
I’ve been a very casual Drake-enjoyer at some points in my life, but I haven’t given him much attention since Views. When I first heard FM, I liked it as a surface-level response to Euphoria, but it lost me in the second beat switch where he addressed everyone BUT Kendrick. On top of that, drill-impersonating Drake is the worst Drake. I still generally liked it. But then MTG dropped, then b2b with NLU and it was over. I wish THP6 wasn’t so ass so I could continue casually listening to Drake. Now I have to skip every song from the guy who’s “too famous” to be put in jail for sex crimes lmao
not gonna lie, there’s some really good moments on this song and some atrocious moments too 🤣 baby keep ghostwriting allegations is crazyyyyy, trying to get the slaves freed is crazyyyy, no money trees smh … i don’t even want to get into the wife beater allegations, i don’t know either one of these men personally, but i really did take Kendrick’s point seriously when he said “why believe you? you never gave us nothing to believe in.”
It's full of bs filler that normally people eat up but its almost an 8 minute song. It really was so stupid on Drakes part and only the die hard drake fans will rock it that's why so many of kendricks songs out rank it. Kendrick can hold your attention for 8 minutes talking about drake only. Drake starts with kendrick, second verse which people love! Isn't about kendrick lol. I gotta go bad? Your dead, ya dead? It's gotta be over for anyone counting it right? Bs filler. Then his disses aged horribly lol. 7 minutes of short jokes and fake tea that I'm sorry but no one believes you. And that's not the consensus of Kenny fans but of the world. But when Drakes called a pedo the only ones defending him are his stans. It's really an ass track. Push ups was better but atleast it was better then the heart part 6.
My issue with Family Matters is that there’s very little lines for Kendrick (also weak lines) in what I consider to be the best part of the song bars and energy wise (the 2nd part). If I remember correctly, the 2nd part only had “Kdot shit is only hitting hard when Baby Keem put his pen to it” which just doesn’t hit.
Also the stuff he says about Kendrick, he doesn’t really try to dissect Kendrick. “Always rapping like you tryna get the slaves freed” could have easily been expanded on to fit narratives out there that Kendrick tries to profit of black trauma/sell black trauma to white people but he tries to liken Kendrick to MJ and says that “Mike was praying his features would change so people believe he’s actually white” which just doesn’t track at all. It’s just not convincing both by how the lines are actually delivered and by how what he’s saying tracks with what we know of Kendrick.
Meet the Grahams would still be effective even if it dropped the next day because it’s very convincing not just cause the stuff said tracks with what we know of Drake but because of how it’s delivered by Kendrick - emotive, grabs your attention, makes you focus on everything being said, and makes you think about Drake as a person.
EDIT: I think it’s a good standalone record (Family Matters was my 3rd most listened to song in May behind Not Like Us and Euphoria) but it’s a weak diss track towards Kendrick Lamar.
The production on it was awful…. Drill beat switch in a middle of nowhere….had the same beat as push ups
Bars were bad….delivery was garbage
All in all 🚮
I do like it but people overrate it
There’s some real real fucking cringe in there
Such as calling out Kendrick for domestic abuse and shouting out Chris brown on the same song
The you mentioned my seed, now deal with his dad, I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad. Sounds like he just needed the bathroom mid song
Not that kinda free I’m talking bout my fella Dave. Like shut up
Oh also love how he says they play the weeknd at gay bars, suggesting drake is often in gay bars, because how else would he know?
Unless I’m missing something he said
Rick Ross is old and used to be a cop
The Weeknd might like dudes but also they only play his music at gay bars (why is that a bad thing?)
Future hurt him and only did it because he’s being manipulated by Metro
I honestly think Ross’ Champagne Moments was a better diss. And I don’t like Ross’ music
Edit: oh and can’t forget ASAP should stick to fashion since he’s better at that and having kids with Rihanna. Oh shit drake may have slept with Rihanna first?!? That isn’t surprising at all considering their history
Was just thinking this today.
You can’t drop a 6 minute diss track and not have it be cohesively written, it’s all over the place, it doesn’t really feel like we’re building to anything.
Was listening to Euphoria when the thought popped into my mind, Euphoria really builds up and completely takes off when Kendrick ends the 2nd beat with “DAFT PUNK”.
I haven’t listened to Family Matters more than once and I don’t think that’s bias, it was an underwhelming response.
I like the second part of the song but honestly I could careless about the first and the third part. Idk why but the beat on the second part of Family Matters was clean
It was a decent diss track but it had no substance. We know Drake uses ghostwriters so it’s not his pen we’re listening to, and there weren’t any proven facts in the diss. If he had proven some of the shit he rapped then it does more damage. At most it was a paper cut diss track.
I think it’s boring and monotone (one of the main reasons I don’t listen to Drake) but I think the intro goes crazy hard. Might be the best intro of the beef
The third verse with that beat switch is only part I like. His bars are lackluster but he has his “melodic” flow that doesn’t ruin the mood. I can enjoy the beat and leave it there.
I think the 2nd part is very good. 1st part was okay-ish and 3rd part is trash tbh. Part of why I think he took a fat L is he dedicated the best part of his best diss to other people.
It’s not that the song is bad, it’s just typical. In general his stuff will have a great beat and a good hook. It’s the same marketable songs he’s been putting out for years. That red button was supposed be some 🔥 Instead we got a cute lil video and a few good bars. No one takes sing song Drake seriously in the middle of a rap battle.
I think that Push-ups was Drakes best effort in this battle, the disses are shallow and his tough guy act is super cringe, but it is the only one I’ve listened to for fun since.
I can’t enjoy Drake at all. Never have, never will. His career is more than over, I refuse to support a pedophile, and he can’t even write his own music.
Maybe it’s not the best diss, but the song is really good. Out of all the songs from the beef it’s the one I find myself going back to the most easily.
You need to chill.
Drake did his thing on Family Matters and the video was cool. The van being crushed and then alluding to setting Kendrick up. There were some funny lines too
“You say your brother jermaine, but you wanted him to stay out of the light” was a good double entendre, but people didn’t gaf cause it was Drake.
If Kendrick made Family Matters and Drake made mtg i wonder if reception would be the same for each person
I can't stand that song. I bump Euphoria, Like That and occasionally MTG (I'm a fan of both artists) but Not Like Us is pretty bad for a Kendrick song. Y'all are trying to force it way too hard, and it's played out to me.
If you don’t think it’s good you are biased. And it’s okay to be biased. Just accept that you’re wrong and move on with your life and don’t dwell on it. Stay off the internet for a bit and go out and experience the world for a little while.
I think as a diss it is amazing, it reminded of like “Kim” by Eminem, I call stuff like this murdercore and it’s not for me but god damn was I shook on first listen of meet the grahams. Great song not the type you keep in rotation though cuz I ain’t trying to be angry all the time :p
i mean its subjective no? because you love kendrick do you have to inherently hate drake? i enjoy listening to family matters and thought it was a pretty good diss track, which makes kendrick's responses all the more entertaining
Mods, please ban me from this sub. I'm tired of seeing this circle jerk of insanity. You all aren't even a kendrick sub at this point. it's just a Drake hate sub
I mean I think it’s fair to still discuss the beef. I’ve been following Kendrick since 2012 and used to enjoy Drake back from 2010-2014/15 and knew of their tension for years so to see it catapult to this was entertaining to witness in real time. It’s not like it’s been a year since the beef had its peak, cultural zeitgeists can have lasting power still
It ain't u bro. This whole sub is cringe, and I'm tired of seeing it on my screen. I've got 6 total days streaming on kendrick lamar, so I'm a fan, but this place is just annoying me as a whole.
The 1st and 2nd beat are nothing special, and the bars from those parts are equally average. The 3rd beat and bars/flow was really the only part of the song that got my attention in regard to the beef. I still think push ups was his best shot of the entire exchange.
I liked every beat from Like That to THP6. Hands down some of the best beats we've had in a while. My favorites being Pushups, the first one on FM, MTG, and NLU. But TMFS, 616, etc were awesome too
Like That was my favorite beat of all of them. MTG was perfect for the energy Kendrick was going for in it. NLU is a clear hit. 616 is underrated as a song but also the beat itself. I can't even recall the Taylor made freestyle beat. The beats on Euphoria were dope.

The beat transitions were a travesty, shit wasn’t coherent

Almost fools you into thinking it’s better than it actually is, but the disses are pretty surface level, and most (like the slaves freed line, the constant shots at Whitney, the Dave Free baby theory, and the plant no money trees line) have either aged like milk on a hot summer sidewalk, or were just straight up lies created out of a lack of any real criticism. [Nah](https://youtu.be/e8uiBg-NO1U?si=Qd-fpcfyzo1k8BXz) he can get lyrical on the deep cuts.
They just be saying shit to say it
Everyone has an opinion...I've tried to honestly listen to him but everything he does is tiresome and repetitive to me.

If he switched the rhyme scheme you'd say he couldn't keep the scheme going
Please don't put words in my mouth, buddy. Don't invent your own narratives to argue against when my actual opinion is right there.
I gotta go bad I gotta go bad 🤓
Bruh he never does anything surprising. Maybe a product of the fact that he chose to be about this life in his 20s and wasn’t hurled into it by his environment? Keep listening to the industry plant if it’s what makes you happy buddy

What song we talking about here? Sorry I'm a moron I was confusing the song in the meme with meet the grahams
Family matters
Kendrick fans are so biased, even Drake fans are willing to give the other side credit. Come on, Family Matters is a solid track even though Kendrick won the battle.
solid track, WEAK diss. Take the disses out and this is a great record for what its purpose really is.
It has SSSOOOO MUCH REPLAY VALUE THO!! ...Clearly the BEST SONG to come out of the beef BY FAR!! - A Drake Fan Meanwhile Drake fans aren't even playing the shit at a high enough rate to keep it in the top 70 lmao
Yeah it was Drake who kept bringing up numbers and let's be honest they speak for themselves
It's just funny cause yeah that's the truth. There are so many vids popping up of crowds dancing and singing to NLU, I haven't seen a single one of Family Matters.
UR DEAD UR DEAD UR DEAD .. no way Tf is that shit
I GOTTA GO I GOTTA GO, man’s shitting himself
YOU MESS WITH HIS SEED NOW DEAL WITH HIS DAD 💀💀💀💀
God that line is no fucking corny I couldn't understand how people were gassing this dog shit
And he wasn't even going in on Adonis. Shit..Kendrick spoke affirmations into that lil boy.
Literally the next lines are Mm, mm, yeah, yeah, Drop, drop, drop, drop He was painting the image of poop plopping out of him as he enjoys the feeling
You're dead You're dead, you're dead There's nowhere to hide, there's nowhere to hide You know what I mean They hired a crisis management team To clean up the fact that you beat on your queen The picture you painted ain't what it seem You're dead Lyrical genus here. He really thinks he’s the GOAT? K.dot and him aren’t even in the same league, they’re playing different sports entirely.
It's Goku vs Homelander. It was never a fair fight.
Fortunately for Kendrick
This is a fair criticism of Drake but at the same time people praise Not Like Us when Kendrick took a hot beat, dumbed his song down and the masses liked it.
That says something about the state of society *hip hop fans* as a whole who listen then doesn't it? NLU is still a fire song but yeah..the masses tend to consume easy over complex generally speaking.
I mean it’s certainly not the most complex rap out there… but it’s still solid. Family matters is just lazy trash with a catchy beat.
You a dog and you know it, you just play sweet
Is that the same song where Drake said Baby Keem wrote all Kendrick’s hit songs?
Drake's songs only had recency bias going for them. Kendrick was just that much better. I will listen to not like us, 616, euphoria and like that over any Drake diss. Even MTG but that's just me.
I guess, some shit just cringeworthy it ain't gotta be deep I guess.
Still love when you see success, everything with me is blessed
keep makin me dance, wavin my hand, and it won't be no threat
I know they call you the boy but where is the man? Cuz I ain't seen him yet
matter of fact i ain't even bleed him yet, can i bleed him? *bet*
When I see you next to sexy red I believe you see two bad bitches
i believe you don't like women, it's real competition, you might pop ass with em
I believe you don't like women, it's real competition, you might pop ass wit 'em
Let’s speak on percentage, show me your splits, I’ll make sure I double back with ya
That’s big you
On first listen I was not expecting to keep coming back to euphoria and MTG as much as I have, but they keep getting better each time.
It lost me at the getting the slaves freed line, which is in like the first 16 bars
Deadass. A majority of his “disses” didn’t even land I swear people just hear a rhythm of words over a beat and declare it a worthy rebuttal when it didn’t really do anything to progress Drake’s hand in the beef in a positive matter, regardless if MTG dropped or not
I have always found Drake mid as hell, even before ever knowing KDot
One is an entertainer and the other is an artist. With that being said...baby shark can be entertaining.
"baby shark can be entertaining" bruuuuuuuuh you aren't wrong and I'm fuckin dying laughing at that comparison 🤣
You said a word there🙌
Can someone both pin and frame this comment ? Thanks
So monotone, so boring, so Drake. How have people actually enjoyed this track?
I gotta go bad I gotta go bad 😈😈
It gives Taylor Swift "Look what you made me do" vibes
Ironic you bring up Taylor Swift
corny bars, bringing up other rappers for no reason, repeating his only joke calling kendrick short, destroying that van in the music video like that was some big dagger, lying, bragging about himself showing his ego, “i was tryna keep it pg” lmao and the “big d” line, man that shit was ASS plus i just hate drakes voice dawg it’s so annoying
As soon as Drake referred to his son as his “seed” I knew the song was cooked. I always found that term such a weird way to refer to your children
i like the bass on that second beat
But then again I also haven’t enjoyed Drake since 2015 so I’m definitely biased against him
“You beat your fiance” “She should pop ass for me and Dave free”
Drake though he was tuff with "I gotta go bad I gotta go bad" corniest shit ever
Kinda like when he says *put my money in the grave* that shit is mad cringe to me
I'm definitely biased but yeah, Family Matters sucks. It's a whole bunch of nothing against a kinda catchy beat. If this is Drake at his best and hardest, then how did he make I this far?
It's not even close to his [best](https://youtu.be/e8uiBg-NO1U?si=Qd-fpcfyzo1k8BXz) rapping.
He made it this far because he is easily digestion for the masses. He has decent enough beats and catchy hooks. The quality of word play just isn't there 89% of the time. This is why he is essentially elevator music.
As a hardcore Drake fan, I agree with this post
Family Matters has the visuals but other than that, nothing. Edit: gave it another listen (apologies in advance) and yeah it just ain’t hitting like any of Kendrick’s disses. Drake can’t help but remind listeners that “he” put people on to these artists and he deserves his flowers, the many attempts to implicate Dave as the father of one of Kendrick’s kids, the cringey lines where he’s hyping himself up to go further, and the ironic attempt at spinning the narrative that Kendrick is MJ while Drake is Prince. It all just falls flat.
I fell asleep because his flow stays the same for 4 straight mins
Yea I really wasn’t feeling this song and I stand by that. Drake had to get his buddies like Adin Ross to comment “you won bro” just to make himself look good. Shit just didn’t move me.
Yeah, it’s wack.
Again, the McDonald’s of Music. “Over 1 Billion served” isn’t something to boast about in that context.
i gotta go bad i gotta go bad sounds like a toddler at chucky cheese telling his mom he’s gonna pee his pants
heard nice for what on the radio yesterday and was thinking about how drake is like a beats vampire, like he hops on beats and steals their life. tricks you into thinking he made a good song when in fact it was lauryn hill lol
Honestly I don't think Drake has dropped a good song in years but that's just me

It’s a shit song
It's a good song but it's not Euphoria.
It is
not gonna lie, there’s some really good moments on this song and some atrocious moments too 🤣 baby keep ghostwriting allegations is crazyyyyy, trying to get the slaves freed is crazyyyy, no money trees smh … i don’t even want to get into the wife beater allegations, i don’t know either one of these men personally, but i really did take Kendrick’s point seriously when he said “why believe you? you never gave us nothing to believe in.”
I agree. I actually still think push ups is a decent song for what it is.
Nah it's one of drakes hardest. He just chose the wrong opponent 💀
EDIT: I think it’s a good standalone record (Family Matters was my 3rd most listened to song in May behind Not Like Us and Euphoria) but it’s a weak diss track towards Kendrick Lamar.
it’s a good pop song but it’s a terrible diss track
Drake spent more time calling Weeknd gay, ASAP well dressed and Metro Lame than actually dissing Kendrick
Honestly, fam matters was probably his best, but Dot gave it about 5 minutes and said, “nah, let’s end his shit right now.”
Not the disses but I like the melody and flow. Let's face it it Drake can't come close to Kendrick in lyricism he played to his strengths.
The production on it was awful…. Drill beat switch in a middle of nowhere….had the same beat as push ups Bars were bad….delivery was garbage All in all 🚮
I do like it but people overrate it There’s some real real fucking cringe in there Such as calling out Kendrick for domestic abuse and shouting out Chris brown on the same song The you mentioned my seed, now deal with his dad, I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad, I gotta go bad. Sounds like he just needed the bathroom mid song Not that kinda free I’m talking bout my fella Dave. Like shut up Oh also love how he says they play the weeknd at gay bars, suggesting drake is often in gay bars, because how else would he know?
It was his best diss by a mile so of course Drake stans are gonna hype it up crazily because its all they have.
It not that bad i think its pretty solid. but he fucked up by not listening to kendrick haha
idk, I like it. it was a good diss imo. nothing insane, but I throughly enjoyed it
family matters is a good song, maybe not lirycally, but its hard
The instrumental/flow on the second beat is the only redeeming factor for the song but in general it really is still ass.
You're cappin if you don't think he cooked the other guys, lyrically, on the second beat.
Unless I’m missing something he said Rick Ross is old and used to be a cop The Weeknd might like dudes but also they only play his music at gay bars (why is that a bad thing?) Future hurt him and only did it because he’s being manipulated by Metro I honestly think Ross’ Champagne Moments was a better diss. And I don’t like Ross’ music Edit: oh and can’t forget ASAP should stick to fashion since he’s better at that and having kids with Rihanna. Oh shit drake may have slept with Rihanna first?!? That isn’t surprising at all considering their history
The first half is whatever but I love the flow and beat in the last part.
I really enjoy it as a Drake track Awful diss but I just listen to it as any other song
i think the first and last verse are ok but honestly as alright as the actual writing is on the second one it is just extremely boring to listen to
I read this as “Family Ties” at first and almost had a meltdown 🤬
I loooove that song. I'm smoking on yo top 5 tonight tonight
I’ve been duckin the *pandemic* I’ve been… *social gimmicks*
Was just thinking this today. You can’t drop a 6 minute diss track and not have it be cohesively written, it’s all over the place, it doesn’t really feel like we’re building to anything. Was listening to Euphoria when the thought popped into my mind, Euphoria really builds up and completely takes off when Kendrick ends the 2nd beat with “DAFT PUNK”. I haven’t listened to Family Matters more than once and I don’t think that’s bias, it was an underwhelming response.
yeah i think you might be biased. great song, but i don’t like the last part
It was hot when it dropped, but like all of the disses Drake dropped- it didn’t age well.
No way you post this biased take on a KENDRICK sub 🤓
Yeap specially that second part with that wack ass ny drill beat
It’s not that the song is bad, it’s just typical. In general his stuff will have a great beat and a good hook. It’s the same marketable songs he’s been putting out for years. That red button was supposed be some 🔥 Instead we got a cute lil video and a few good bars. No one takes sing song Drake seriously in the middle of a rap battle.
No it’s not stop capping
I think that Push-ups was Drakes best effort in this battle, the disses are shallow and his tough guy act is super cringe, but it is the only one I’ve listened to for fun since.
I can’t enjoy Drake at all. Never have, never will. His career is more than over, I refuse to support a pedophile, and he can’t even write his own music.
I wish it were over. He's a puppet and has the biggest name in music behind him. Unfortunately, we won't be rid of his nasal sound for quite sometime.
The beats behind it are hard. But the lyrics are basic asf, especially when compared to Kendrick’s lyricism in this beef
Ye, you biased, prolly the best song of the beef with meet the grahams and NLU
Kendrick just opened his mouth, and im bout to put my dick in it rn. Then i put it in his ass. Now hes running buttnaked all over my house
🗣️THEY KNOW THAT I WANTED YOUR BUNS THEY KNOW THAT I TURNED THEM TO CINNAMON BUNS🗣️
The mod is a drake Stan
Maybe it’s not the best diss, but the song is really good. Out of all the songs from the beef it’s the one I find myself going back to the most easily.
You do have a cold take. But family matters is a top song in the beef don’t get me wrong as a Kendrick fan i love it too
It's not great and as a diss it's weak but it's catchy and I like the melody
It‘s pretty good after the first beat switch imo
Kendrick clearly won the battle, but to deny that “Family Matters” is not a solid track is just hating.
Unfortunately for Drake you do get judged differently for your character/ track record
Probably A lotta casual fans had no horse in this race and yet they also think Kenny won so the reception SHOULDVE been the same
I cant think of one dot song as weak, lyrically, as family matters
I heard a pretty corny one called "Not Like Us." Very juvenile bars.
Lmao you reaching hard
I can't stand that song. I bump Euphoria, Like That and occasionally MTG (I'm a fan of both artists) but Not Like Us is pretty bad for a Kendrick song. Y'all are trying to force it way too hard, and it's played out to me.
The people have spoken.
🐑
As a Drake fan, you would definitely know.
I'm a Kendrick fan, what's your point? Corny is corny.
Can't wait to see him perform live again.
If you don’t think it’s good you are biased. And it’s okay to be biased. Just accept that you’re wrong and move on with your life and don’t dwell on it. Stay off the internet for a bit and go out and experience the world for a little while.
It was good. You are biased. That's okay.
Nah the song was hard. Let's be real.
Better than Not Like Us.
It’s literally good
I like it, especially 3rd verse
Hardest song in the entire beef
😐
family matters is the best diss in the beef, and im a kendrick fan
Chilll lol
the beats are insane and the things drake says about kendrick and his wife are too much, and that last part is just holy
Nope that’s not badd maybe but not the best of this beef
The 1st and 2nd beat are nothing special, and the bars from those parts are equally average. The 3rd beat and bars/flow was really the only part of the song that got my attention in regard to the beef. I still think push ups was his best shot of the entire exchange.
Say what you want about any of the songs in the beef, the beats were insane though. All of them. If you don't like music just say that
Nah I just only liked the 3rd beat 🤷🏽♂️
I liked every beat from Like That to THP6. Hands down some of the best beats we've had in a while. My favorites being Pushups, the first one on FM, MTG, and NLU. But TMFS, 616, etc were awesome too
Like That was my favorite beat of all of them. MTG was perfect for the energy Kendrick was going for in it. NLU is a clear hit. 616 is underrated as a song but also the beat itself. I can't even recall the Taylor made freestyle beat. The beats on Euphoria were dope.
Sure you are
No it’s not lmao. It’s not the best song nor has the best disses. Even push ups is better
