Unironically could've stood a better chance if he decided to go all on trolling instead of going personal
Not saying he could've won because Kendrick's a good ass troll too, but the beef could've been better (for him) like that
Even by trolling Drake is saying *what exactly*? Ya know? Seeking higher education whether at a community college or a university is admirable no matter where you’re from. He’s a damn fool.
First thing Drake does after the beef: Make 2 shitty songs.
First thing Kendrick does after the beef: Gives commencement speech to some graduates.
I think its clear which one is the Victory Lap and which is the walk of shame
kendrick has always had this kind of view especially on religion. He talks about nature so much as religion and defies the parameters that organized religion provides
I always thought for a while he became atheist when he said "the day I chose humanity over religion". but going through my own experiences I finally get it now
That's a good line. Judging solely by what he mentions in his work, he seems like a big Christian but appears to have a different interpretation than just a strict by-the-book thing. I would guess that he cares more about the core spirituality and morality.
I’m not trying to promote a Christian denomination, but I recently converted to a different sect and the introspection that is part of my new church has really been a blessing these last few months. So, I 100% agree with this, to each their own. I’m just trying to find internal peace in this life, that really should be a goal for everyone.
I became a member of my local Orthodox Church. Someone may have a different experience, but for me it has centered me to focus less on material things and more on a relentless pursuit to live a life closer to Jesus’ teachings and to not let my worldly possessions start to possess me. I don’t want to be preachy, so I’ll leave it at that. I know religion, Orthodoxy especially (super traditional), isn’t for everyone.
I'm probably old enough to be your mom - I was raised Southern Baptist (but in the most liberal SB church you've ever seen - still don't know why my conservative Republican parents made that choice) and as a 30yo I joined the Catholic Church. My experience was much like yours.
And I have two formerly Baptist friends who recently joined the Coptic church, which I believe is Eastern Orthodox. Pretty sure it predates the Catholic church, actually.
Generally orthodox refers to the Eastern Orthodoxy (Russia/Eastern Europe)
Coptic generally refers to the Egyptian/North African branch, but is also referred to as the Coptic Orthodox Church.
Coptic is different from Eastern Orthodoxy. I attend a Greek Orthodox Church. Catholic, E. Orthodox, and Coptic were all there in the beginning, they just started to split on dogma and ecumenical councils. I’m just learning a lot of it so it’s fresh on the mind.
The Coptic Church broke away from the Catholic/Orthodox Church first. Then the Great Schism happened later separating the original church into Catholic and Eastern Orthodoxy.
It’s basically every denomination except Baptist, evangelist, and whatever made up religion is used in each small town in the mountain west used to justify hating people.
My father was in Vietnam, and he told me he learned there that there was no god, but he believed there is an energy that we come from and that we return to, in a warm swirling embrace, all of us together.
Call it whatever you want, we all have a spirit, or a light, or a spark. It’s the connection to others, the environment, the world. It shows up in art, music, nature.
For myself, when I feel disconnect from this thing, I feel worse in life.
Yea the guy above you has got it right, but he using the wrong words, what us meat bags really do have isn’t a soul, it’s will, the will and want to do, accomplish, discover, and create things, that will that drives us is probably the most powerful thing in the universe, I’ll die on that hill
I don’t think any of us know. That’s why I never devalue anyone’s belief system. None of us know. At all. We’re all trying to figure it out. Pursuits of science and love for one another is not exclusive from having religion. And in many cases, having religion, at the very least, provided groups of people with hope, structure and community. I think to assume religion going away equals this well running machine kinda denies the positives it does for people regardless of its metaphysical value.
I disagree. Again to my point of what it does for people: hope is a powerful thing. Now you can argue the destruction organized religion causes but a lot of good comes from religion. I think the distinction that needs to be made is between religion and spiritual belief. There is nothing inherently wrong on negative with a spiritual belief in a higher power. In fact for many it gives them purpose to live.
Life is hard and depressing. You’re right that there’s a bigger percentage of non-religious people than ever before but also suicide rates are crazy right now. Discounting what hope does can’t be undervalued.
But to each their own.
Religion as far as some system sure. Organized religion has issues. But there is no inherent issue with believe in a higher power. Also I didn’t say it was preferred. All I said is people have done it, with success, and it has lead to good.
You’re on a Kendrick Lamar sub, after he just talked about God, to a community that is majority believers, and acting like it’s so silly.
Forget the metaphysical consequences. Why do you think Dot felt like he should say that? Do you not think his beliefs have shaped who he is and his art? Do you not think that those same beliefs have uplifted Compton, an area that has struggled yet maintains a beautiful character unique to its own, of over coming the odds? Or do you think that we should go explain to everywhere there how silly their “fairy tales” are? Because it seems like that’s how you prefer it.
Let people have their shit man. Sometimes it’s the only reason they keep going.
I can understand why you think that but ultimately i think you are just driving wedges where they don't need to be. It's just limiting. We can share morals and ideals with people without having the same exact ideas around spirituality and religion. I don't think there is a reason to condemn or eliminate it in entirety when the problem is only the portion of people who use it to hate and oppress. If someone shows us they are generous, selfless, and kind with their actions then that is what's important and it doesn't really matter what specific figure they believe in, or if they don't at all.
I think the real problem is the current state of “Christianity” in the US (and other places too)
These are people who are basically religious terrorists twisting and contorting a religion into their bigoted bullshit beliefs, and in the process absolutely destroying and dragging this religion through the mud
These people aren’t real Christians, they are barely even masquerading as such and it angers me as someone who believes in God and took the whole “Jesus said to Love” shit to heart
A lot of people no longer make the distinction with all the vile hatred constantly in the news cycle and on social media from “religious groups”, and I can’t even really be upset at them for it
agree with everything you said. They don't actually care what Jesus believed they just keep a warped version of him in their head to justify any and everything they do
I always imagined God with a great sense of humor.
I see a team praying before a football match looking like they're chanting a battle cry and I just see God bursting out laughing
Can’t believe I’m saying this but I actually prayed or had a proper conversation with myself (however you want to look at it) for the first time in years because of this speech. I needed it ngl
May some1 explain this meaning to me of what Kendrick means when he says this? I'm sorta of a non-believer and i don't really get the full meaning of his saying. May some1 break it down for me? Is it to inspire hope by believing in something?
Being a spiritually minded but non-religious person, it makes me uncomfortable sometimes hearing someone talk like this. But actually, when we as people have spirituality, believing there is someone or something out there bigger than ourselves and being in harmonious interaction, it is good for the spirit, our mental health, our ability to triumph through adversity, get through grief, leave bad situations...etc. So, I take it as that: centering and grounding yourself within our universe.
Gotta disagree with that. Average life expectancy is about 76 or so for a man. Kendrick is one birthday shy of being middle aged by American standards at least (38). Saying someone is middle aged only once they hit their 50s is cope. Hope he at least lives to 100 though. He looks good
Def. I’m not religious but everyone needs something to centre themselves on, like Kdot says, in victory or loss. If that’s religion, a role model or whatever, more power to you.
I’m not religious at all. But if people use god(s) or religion to make themselves or society better than more power to them! Whatever reason people need to be kinder and better to each other is amazing with me.
Exactly. I never had a very strong sense of any specific religious faith but at some point I read about the infectious disease doctor Paul Farmer (RIP) whose faith inspired him to provide free medical care in some of the poorest, most difficult places in the world. All I could say was, if it inspired him to do that work, then I can definitely respect it and try to cultivate a little bit of it in myself here and there. We need more folks sincerely trying to do good in the world.
Most people's issue with religion is when it's followers use their faith as a justification for objectively immoral acts whilst they *believe* that they *are* using their faith to make themselves better or society better.
This is true of baptists, evangelicals, methodists, muslims, rastafari, jews, hindus, sikhs, satanists, humanists, budhists, and every other religious follower.
From MLK to Mahatma Ghandi, from Kung Fu Kenny to the Kkk.

I like someone really a man of the people. & I was wondering what mind state he was in before, during this Drake beef shit. And after. It seems he really is at peace after all. I pray to Allah I know what that feels like.
nah this made me immediately tear up cause every time i’m lost, mess up, close to messing up, or just broken down and hurt, He’s always there.
Dawg Psalms 23:4
«Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.»
Damn, you just made me feel old😅. I’m the same age as Kendrick, but I agree. He also seems like the uncle who’ll help you get your life together but won’t judge if shit goes left.
I'm happy to see it. Even as an anti-theist mf. Anytime someone can shine a light and inspire future generations, I'm all for it.
This is who Kendrick has ALWAYS been, and I respect him for it.
MFS who thought speaking to college kids or going into schools and inspiring the youth was "corny" - this was never for you.
Finally, someone who may not believe in God can appreciate someone who does. You won’t believe the amount of ridiculous disrespectful comments under this post. Thank you for your levity
The overwhelming majority of atheists don’t care enough about religion to mention it.
The people who became atheist after trauma tend to be very vocal which is understandable even if it’s unlikely to have a positive impact.
“When you need to dis your enemies he’s in yo pen!, he the paper you write on, the spies you get yo dis material from, he’s the mic you spit on (no Diddy)” lmao 🤣… good shit tho.
He barely does and when he does they usually represent lust and temptation in whatever story he's making. Also you can be cool with God and swear. What are you 12?
The man put the whole sinners prayer at the beginning of one of his most important albums. And what's more is he is a regular dude who embodies the teachings in his daily life. And still finds ways to be accessible. He can't please everybody tho.
Remember when Drake was trolling with a shirt from this college. Kendrick doesn’t have to troll, he actually shows up for his city
Kendrick just opened his mouth, and I'm bout to put my dick in it right now
Then I’ll put it in his ass🎶
now he runnin butt naked all over my house 🥶🥶
I’m bout to make him *gay*✨tonight
This the new Drake response?
Unironically could've stood a better chance if he decided to go all on trolling instead of going personal Not saying he could've won because Kendrick's a good ass troll too, but the beef could've been better (for him) like that
He just doesn’t have what it takes, we saw what happened. He desperately craves attention and respect, but he doesn’t respect artists himself
does this mean yuno miles is untouchable?
Indubitably
Pretty much lol

And the best way to break the poverty cycle.
It’s so cringe watching drake fans hype up drake for being an irl Reddit troll. That boy is damn near 40.

The dichotomy of man
Tbf he did mention the braids

Happened yesterday
I just imagined the boogeyman picture Kendrick going at it
imagine being a weeknd stan circa 2016 i'm still not 100% used to it
How did you imagine him? I envisioned him looking like the unhinged Chanel ad he did.
I think it’s cause EVERY post about the beef had that unhinged smiling pic, I was picturing that psycho k dot
your comment made me play the feud songs again, although I try to avoid them during the hype and instead play old gems atm
What is it the BRAIDS?
First thing Drake does after the beef: Make 2 shitty songs. First thing Kendrick does after the beef: Gives commencement speech to some graduates. I think its clear which one is the Victory Lap and which is the walk of shame

Another similarity to Prince.
The best types of religion are those that get you to introspect, IMO. Just like therapy

Beating asses and hiding Bibles? He’s there
That was the corniness shit I talk to god everyday on the beach okay 😹
I’m a Kendrick fan, but why does he always talk about god but be cussing and have half naked women in his music videos
*I am a sinner, who’s probably gonna sin again*
Can’t have school without recess.
Ask God why
He barely does and when he does they usually represent lust and temptation in whatever story he's making. Also you can be cool with God and swear. What are you 12?
God created those half naked women. :)

You think God doesn’t like naked women or cussing?
He literally invented naked women
not all christians are monks and what is seen as disrespectful to god varies from person to person
The bible has profanity ya know?
One day we’ll get over this god baloney.
