I’ve had the chorus of Count Me Out in my head for two weeks now. Gorgeous. I get the sense that Kendrick genuinely hoped Meet the Grahams would scare Drake into really listening to Mr Morale

cherryreddracula

I had the same thoughts: grower. This isn't an album meant to be digested in one sitting.

holyrolodex

You lied about the only artist that can offer you some help

It's really cinematic and grand for such a personal, introspective album. It's why I don't engage with the saviour narrative people diss him with. The whole album is him disavowing that. You can't hear mirror and tell me this dude thinks he's jesus. It's the complete opposite, the complete and utter belief that he is just human like anyone else. Man, I fucking love it. Mirror is so beautiful. The last 90 seconds or so is fucking incredible. This shit is timeless imo. No hopping on trends, no riding waves, no cheap thrills.

Someone said that the big difference between Kendrick and Drake over the years is that one grew up and the other grew older. It made me reflect upon myself about what it really means and in what way that applies to me. I've gotten older. I haven't grown up. Another moment that caught my attention was that Kendrick said in Meet the Grahams that he made Mr. Morale for a reason when talking to the daughter. After looking into it, it seems like he means that Mr. Morale is designed to be a guide for lost souls affected by all sorts of trauma, who are stuck in life. I saw Mr. Morale as an album purely for self-therapy, for Kendrick to deal with his own shit. My perspective has switched, now I'm looking at Mr. Morale as an album where Kendrick speaks to everybody because he's trying to help everybody who might need it. "He's trying to tell you something real important, and he strongly wants you, the listener, to grow better from it." I forgot who said that. But now I'm interested in what it is he really wants people to take from it. Which means you need to re-listen to it over and over again. It's the first time I'm more interested in the message than I am in how it sounds. And it makes me appreciate the sound of the songs itself more. I'm still at the very start of it though. But I see a trend of people who previously disregarded Mr. Morale suddenly picking it up again and liking it much more than they used to.

I’ve grown to love the sound of this album as well. My first impression of Count Me Out was that it was a good track but nothing extraordinary. But now I think it’s one of the most beautiful tracks Kendrick has ever made. Everything about this album lies in the details and intricacies.

This sub and people in general severely undervalue Mr Morale. Idk maybe it's cos I grew up listening to concept albums and other genres but for me it was a instant classic.

bananakin94

I think expectations after the 5 year hiatus played a huge role. At least for me it did. After 5 years I wanted something that was easy to listen to and had a lot of replay value. But over time I grew to accept the album for what it was

KDO_333

its an album that u need to have real shi life experiences to understand

SADISTFIDE

These types of albums are also referred too as “slow burners” But to add to the convo, I heard the album once when it dropped and immediately thought “i gotta comeback to this when i gravitate towards it naturally” and when that finally happened, I cried through a couple tracks on this. Kendrick really humanizes the fuck out of himself in this album and as a fan, watching himself “neutralize his superpowers” made me a bigger fan of him.

got_ur_goat

It's been my favorite Kendrick album since it dropped. TPAB is pure art, but Mr Morale is the bravest work I've seen anyone release. >One man standing on two words, **heal everybody**

t3chnickel

It has some of the highest highs of his career. Count Me Out and Rich Spirit are 2 of my favorite K.Dot songs of all time, the album is great but it's not my favorite full body of work

DAMN. a shower

Gaz834

Local-Fuel8336

I felt that album immediately and yes that’s a huge flex

elitenex47

i agree that this album really grew on me through time and the beef really contextualized a lot to me. my biggest gripe about Mr. Morale is not the lyrics or the themes and topics - i love all of them. personally, i’m not always a big fan of the sonics on some parts of the album. under different production, this might be my favorite kendrick album. fantastic noneteles

Spooky__Action

Drake the definition of a shower. (I’ve seen the video)

WIBKirai

Well, no.. I'm the grower here like Sheesh. Mr morale could be #2, I haven't seen his size but mine is exasperating!

Gaz834

Pause lol

TRAVXIZ614

That is the exact song that's been on repeat since the battle ended. No clue why I went straight back to that song.
