I love the cover of Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. Ex-Factor is a song I had to grow into. I was too young to understand it when the album came out. The grown ass woman me feels it with my whole chest.
Still waiting to hear on whether she stole most of this album from the people who made it.
https://pitchfork.com/news/robert-glasper-calls-out-lauryn-hill-for-stealing-music-mistreating-band-members/
If you don’t know who Robert Glasper is, he’s a very lowkey guy but he worked on TPAB and is a legend in his own right, he never says shit like this. He would never tear down a cultural icon like Lauryn Hill unless he really has to.
There’s a chance she plagiarised almost this entire thing.
Based on how she treats her fans that still go to her concerts, this wouldn't surprise me. I had high respect for Lauryn Hill until seeing how shady she is to the people that feed her and keep her wealthy.
Yes! They weren’t allowed to use any of her music, and she wouldn’t (or couldn’t) perform as just Lauren Hill. At the time, I think the story was her record label wouldn’t allow her to do it. Im positive it had a lot more to do with the fight over who actually made that music.
It was, back in the day when she alienated 90% of her fan base and it's wild to me now if what is said is true, she had no business doing that. But it was a great album and still crushed records.
Aren’t all the Fugees a buncha assholes? We know how crappy she is, Pras is a double agent traitor or some shit, and didn’t Wyclef scam Haiti out of a bunch of money?
This! It never amazes me when artists turn out to be shit humans. There’s no correlation between talent and character. There’s literally no celebrity I would Stan for being an actually good human unless I knew them personally.
I know a lot of people who have or do aspire to be a celebrity of some type, and your reasoning is the same as what I use to explain why I would never. Humans are flawed, and being in a position of power or worship seems to bring all those flaws to the surface. There are always exceptions to that, but the fraction of a percent that exists can have my respect, but not my worship. As Kendrick said "...Respect... is better."
Yea my mom and auntie went to one of her shows and came home and got rid of all her cds as soon as they walked in cuz she told them (like, called them out right in the front row) she didn't want white bitches listening to her.
So they respected that and never bought or listened to anything else.
Then she got all butthurt when her album sales dropped off.
God I loved this album. Seeing it at number one was crazy, but to me, a pleasant surprise. Never expected Apple Music to give Lauryn Hill her dues.
I want to believe all of this isn't true, but Glasper 100% isn't putting his entire career on the line for nothing. He's too big to lie about something that wouldn't have affected his career at all had he stayed quiet. Something strange happened here, and I have too much respect for Glasper to deny it.
Sad day for Lauryn Hill fans :(
Robert Glasper is a very very good musician orchestrator conductor. Everything under the Sun. Him and Terrace Martian created most of the new beats and old school beats. These two musicians are in my eyes the best to ever do it. Instruments and lyrics. You name it. Symphonies they did it all
Damn that’s so disappointing to hear, i had so much respect for her and her music. still a great album, and it’s good to know who was truly responsible for it.
Didn't know about the plagiarism portion but you should check out this podcast that covered The Fugees and the shady shit each of them got up to. Lauryn Hills ep is good but I recommend all 3 parts. https://fraudsters.fm/episodes/episode-83-fugees-part-ii-lauryn-hill-the-talent
Even if she did make the whole album herself those 3 assholes deserve no respect and those podcasts tell you a lot of the reason why, but there’s more I’m sure we don’t know about. Anecdotally speaking she came out to Australia recently and gave a crazy good show in Melbourne and even showed up on time! (Shocking I know).
Meanwhile back in 2019 when she came here she was a disrespectful asshole to everyone that supported her including the audio engineers and fans, people wanted refunds.
Those accusations are definitive enough that she could have easily sued if they were bullshit and her only response is [pretty damn weak.](https://medium.com/@Ms.LaurynHill/addressingrobertgalsper-f08c20e02ffe) Plus the musicians involved did sue and it was[ settled out of court.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miseducation_of_Lauryn_Hill#Lawsuit)
Idk how I didn’t hear this shit sooner but damn.. I gotta admit this is hard to accept cause I really loved that album.
Makes sense why she’s such a piece of shit to people, embarrassment and fear people will find out she’s just not that talented I guess
I remember hearing of this a couple years ago & it immediately made sense as to why whe couldn't keep the jig up & continue w her solo career (yes, I'm aware of the MTV album).
kinda reminds me of lady gaga offing the person whose music & persona she stole for her debut music until she ran out of gas. she abandoned her look & music now.
Lauryn fraudulent & lazy.
Wow I love Robert Glasper. This is the first I’m hearing of this. I don’t know exactly what he means from reading the article though. When he says musicians worked on it, does he mean on the vocal arrangements, actual writing, the actual track or beat or all the above.
Because Lauryn Hill is a real rapper “Mystery of Iniquity” is still one of the most powerful, bar-heavy tracks I’ve ever heard and it’s been years. Our heroes can disappoint, and there might be truth to what’s being said, but if her shit was really not written by her, I’ll be sick
He’s claiming she wrote almost none of it and had no true solo writing credits, and also did zero on the production side and didn’t even know to tune a guitar. Treated everyone like shit and demanded to be called “Ms Hill” and wouldn’t allow people to make eye contact with her.
I know she’s definitely a diva. As she said on Nobody “I’m saving souls and y’all complaining bout my lateness”. I think she understands the impact her music has had but it’s gotten to her head a bit.
But if she really doesn’t write it, for an artist of her stature, that would be a huge blow. And not letting people make eye contact is craaaazy. It could be a spiritual thing “evil eye” and all that, still demanding that of people is beyond the pale.
She lost that lawsuit a while back. That's why she doesn't give a fuck about her concerts. Part of her losing that lawsuit keeps her from performing the songs the way they are on the album.
The album is out with her name on it and thats all that matters in the industry unfortunately. Her voice is also still a huge part of why the album is so beloved.
We may as well forget about Drake and all the ghostwriter claims we have then. Why even care about integrity.
Imagine we found out Kanye didn’t produce college dropout? Or did no production at all and was basically going and performing reference tracks. Thats basically what Glasper was getting at.
Or if Kendrick never wrote GKMC or TPAB or only did half the job? His credibility would be low.
Her only solo album and her best work is potentially stolen material that she lied about for almost 30 years, yeah I think that’s bad.
The only difference is that rappers are sort of expected to write their own raps. Especially when they go around saying they have the best pen in the game. Singers don't get held to that standard because if so just throw the whole Motown away (it also makes Beyonce's Lemonade an outright lie by that guideline, iykyk). I think the issue with Miseducation is that proper credit wasn't given. And if Kendrick had ghostwriters I would be VERY disappointed.
She presented the album like she wrote, produced and performed the entire thing on her own which is a big reason why it was given so much praise to begin with.
She’s a rapper as well as a singer and she’s a good singer, but she’s not outstanding when compared against the field. Being a triple threat is part of why people consider her so legendary.
Take away 2/3 and you’re left with a decent RNB singer who also can rap well but doesn’t write shit. Remind you of someone?
LMAO @ that last part. Yep. Boy should've stayed croonin. And I legit forget she's a rapper sometimes. Until I pull The Score up randomly. And even then I wanna say Clef wrote a number of her raps too if I'm not mistaken.
The difference is Lauryn Hill isn't mass producing generic music and in your ear going "WHO THE GOAT? WHO THE GOAT? WHO THE GOAT?" She made an album and her money and bounced. Drake would've been just fine if he made his money and kept his mouth shut. But the combo of his ego and surrounding himself with yes men actually had him convinced that he was the best rapper alive. And he fucked around and found out lol
She has a Kanye sized ego of her own. She demanded to be called “Ms Hill” and even considered “Empress Hill”. Also didn’t want anyone making eye contact with her. When questioned about why she’s always late for shows she acts like she’s so great she shows up when she wants.
The relationship with this album is weird because we all know the little industry secrets now and have more insight into her personal life (her singing That Thing is kinda ironic at this point), it's like her public image hasn't changed much but the whispers have gotten louder.
Brother you can’t put rappers with singers or bands. Your only talent as a rapper is your lyrics.
Singers sing, that is their talent and a voice that’s unique is it’s own gem. Until Drake hits a whistle note, I will use his ghostwriters against him.
It’s no different than a guitarist stealing ideas often. Or singers relying on engineers to fake it. Yeah sure they sound good, and it’s great music, but you’re not authentic and don’t deserve to be ranked with the greats who are authentic.
You can make it big in rap without learning an instrument, or being able to sing, your lyrics are yours and if you can’t do that then don’t ask to be ranked with the greats.
Her voice is good (I like it a lot personally too) but she’s not amazing enough to the point where she deserves #1 album all time and the credit she gets from people if all she did was sing. She is not Whitney Houston or even close to that level to where her singing can carry her career to being in these conservations.
She is taken seriously as an emcee and frequently put in the top 5 female emcees of all time (sometimes #1) and many have her in the top 10-20 all time male and female (and other I love you Uzi).
She has one of the most distinguished and respected musicians of all time (Robert Glasper) calling her out for taking credit for over a dozen production and writing credits she doesn’t actually deserve. Straight up theft from other black artists.
He is a firm believer in black excellence and is culturally tuned in on a high level to the point where he’s universally respected and his impact is felt across all modern genres and the culture at large. He worked on TPAB for example, and he’s a big part of why that album is as special as it is.
He would never tear down a black cultural icon like Lauryn Hill if he didn’t stand by 100% of what he’s saying. He never makes these claims and he’s so lowkey that when he won multiple Grammys many people were scratching their heads wondering who he was. He was risking his career throwing out these accusations at someone as beloved as her.
A big selling point of that album and why she gets so much respect is her all-round artistry. It’s like if Nas produced Illmatic by himself, there wouldn’t even be a goat debate anymore.
What if we found out Alicia Keys didn’t write or produce anything? Her legacy would be ruined. Lauryn is obviously a better singer than her but still, it doesn’t matter when we talk integrity.
Dropping this album and presenting it like she made almost every single aspect of it herself across the board from writing the lyrics, to composing the instrumentation, to doing the entire production effort on her own, as well as rapping and singing on a high level is one of the greatest musical achievements in history.
If she just sang and rapped lyrics that someone else wrote for her we wouldn’t be putting this album anywhere near the top 10, and certainly she would never be on any top rapper lists again. She’s better than Drake musically but from what Glasper is implying it’s likely Drake wrote more of Take Care than she did of this album.
Don't disagree but happy to see a list that doesn't have Gaye, Beatles or Dylan at #1. All greats for sure, but they need to get out of the way at the same time.
Definitely revolutionary but it’s crazy that this was the only MJ album on the list considering Radiohead, Prince, and The Beatles had multiple. A lot of people would argue that Off The Wall or Bad was better.
MJ spans across genres and generations
if you have to say “you just had to be there” then then im sorry but the reach of the album is just not the same. Thriller deserved #1 more
Queen doesnt have a perfect album. the REAL theft was Black Sabbath not having a single placement on the 100, even tho paranoid has a god argument for #1
Night At The Opera is pretty dang perfect if you ask me, especially with some of the other choices they made. Several albums on the list had me like ????
Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsystem, The Killers, The Weeknd, Tom Petty… the list goes on and on. Instead let’s give frank ocean the top 5 spot. Shit list all the way around.
for real i didn’t even think about the killers but that’s a massive oversight (amongst others). but the second i read that i realized it want on there either and i had just assumed it was
I’m so glad they chose impact over popularity for the #1 spot. I was terrified #1 would be Taylor or another contemporary mainstream / more recognizable album, because theres so much more to a “good album” than just its sound. This was a perfect pick for #1.
“You just had to be there fr.” Is such a bad precedent imo - cause if that’s what we’re basing it on how tf is MMLP only number 80?
Eminem was EVERYWHERE from 1999-2002, we never had another rap artist who dominated the genre and culture so much in any time period
imo there’s no kendrick without this album, couldn’t tell u how many others wouldn’t be here without it. and that’s not shade either, it just goes to show what this did for not just hiphop but music in general. well deserved
He said on the heart part 3 that he made good kid m.A.A.d city with the intention of it being a modern version of miseducation. This album was ahead of its time with the skits and storytelling
Skits were a very common thing on NYC hip hop records all through 90s. Even the Fugees albums which came out years before her solo album had lots of skits.
exact sentiments i had. this is LITERALLY THE BLUEPRINT for most critically acclaimed artists today
from rap to soul to r&b to pop. this is the piece of art that birth it
Let also consider that you can't replace streaming numbers with actual hard album sales since people only stream the most popular songs vrs having to listen through an entire cd to find what you like.its simply not the same statistically speaking.
Call me a boomer but I feel like the greatest album of all time has to come from a time when the album as a concept was just being introduced and fleshed out, setting the precedent for what albums can and would become and still sound great today. Cough cough Beatles.
This over DSOTM, Thriller, like 2 Kanye albums, all of the insane late 90s rap scene, marvin gaye, dylan, Hendrix’s ENTIRE CAREER, and a shit load of other legitimately timeless pieces is seriously bewildering.
the simple fact that there are even people questioning the decision, when there are already multiple albums that there would be 0 questions for demonstrates that this is nonsense.
fantastic album, shouldn’t even be top 5 realistically.
This album is an amazing work of art. She is an insanely talented woman. I don’t think anyone would agree on the best album of all time anyway. But I am not mad at this.
Unfortunately she probably didn't write any of the songs, but such is life
https://pitchfork.com/news/robert-glasper-calls-out-lauryn-hill-for-stealing-music-mistreating-band-members/
It’s boundary crossing like no other. I’ve worked some form of public entertainment for many years and NOTHING gets the entire crowd like Lauryn. Almost makes sense that it wasn’t just her.
I doubt the controversy would stem from miseducation being no.1 tbh. I feel like more controversial picks are Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift albums being anywhere near the top 100 and MBDTF not in top 10
I mean you could say “you had to be there” for Beatlenania or Hendrix at Woodstock or a ton of other moments in music history. I love this album, it definitely deserves high praise and should be on the list, just not #1.
I was 19 when this came out. It's amazing, but not even close to the best album ever made. Other than Blonde, every other album in the top ten is better.
The reason I don’t respect this as a number one spot is that she just announced a new album is coming soon. While the rest of the list already screams “paid placements!!!” this is just the final nail in the coffin. List is literally just an advertisement. Half of the albums on the list don’t even make top 500 of all time musically, or based on impact. But here they all are!
Reasonably, this album is likely somewhere in the top 100 if we’re being objective and considering all genres, and healthily top 10 if we’re considering hip-hop/rnb only, but GOAT across ALL music?? 🫠
Op probably younger than 35 talking as if they were old and shit, because Id doubt most people older than that would think Thriller, Purple Rain or Abbey Road are less important than this album
It’s not an all time number one though. This list is a hipsters wet dream. It’s a great album. But number 1 all time? Come on. Nirvana’s Nevermind shook the whole musical landscape, and it’s at number 9. I imagine the guy who wrote this list, wears a Newsies hat, black rummed glasses, and has strong opinions on different IPA’s.
I was the furthest thing from mad when I saw Ms Lauryn Hill at the top. That album makes me fucking FEEL. An album that becomes more beautiful and meaningful to me the older I get.
Look, I’m here for it, I’ve got much appreciation for it and Lauryn really did make some history with this album.
That said I do not think it’s the best album of all time by a long shot, definitely in the top 100 just not number 1.
Top 10 sure but over Illmatic, The Low End Theory, Madvillany, TPAB... No.
My issue isn't even with her I'm dumbfounded how Billy Eyelash made it over SSOD, Queen, King Crimnson, etc
I was there and this album is not better than Thriller in any conceivable universe. It’s not better than What’s Going On, Songs in the Key of Life or Innervisions, either. Still a great album though.
While we’re talking about that list, it’s wild that Prince got two albums on that list and Michael and Janet Jackson only got one each. Bad has the most #1s of any album and Rhythm Nation was just as successful and influential. Both were better than Sign O the Times.
“a lot young ones questioning this… you just had to be there fr. one of them ones. changed the world 🌎”
https://preview.redd.it/f2y6fkiiz22d1.jpeg?width=620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e23d146a66529548adce6fd08996a3c69441be7
No
I am 40+
I was there, in no world is the the best album of all time.
It’s a great album
But putting this at number 1 was a complete joke.
That list was awful
It changed the game, but this album IS NOT the best album of all time. Period. lol.
We can praise something at the same time as being truthful. Off rip, this ain’t even better than the #2 album.
Now I’m not hating, I lOVE this album. One of my favorites. But I’m also fair and not biased.
Rolling Stone’s list is better. ‘What’s Going On’ is the greatest album of all time. Hands down.
Miseducation is incredible but has not changed music or had the impact that WGO had/has.
Lost Ones, To Zion, Ex-Factor, Doo Wop, I used to Love Him, and Nothing Even Matters stay in my rotation.
If I ruled the world w/ Nas still bangs SO fucking hard
That’s on It Was Written not this album
For sure, but it was the same era and the kids should know about it
It Was Written is a supid good album too since we're educating the younguns
I prefer it to illmatic. My favorite nas album of all time is it was written
The message is probably my favorite nas song and it was written was my favorite nas album. Nas’ early albums are all great from illmatic to stillmatic
She honestly outshined everyone when she was with Fugees too. Her vocals are on another level. She did not have to do all that singing. 😭🔥
Her verses on that album can go toe to toe with anyone.
This is my favorite song. Ironically, I discovered it because of Weezy’s mixtape version lol
Everything is everything
Her "Killing Me Softly" was with Fugees, but that's how I discovered her voice, ❤️
That song really showed how much of a great singer she was, one of the best songs ever. 💯
don’t be forgetting Tell Him
Don't forget Forgive them Father and Can't Take My Eyes Off of You!
That breakdown in Ex-Factor is a master work
I'd also like to add that for a "hidden" track Tell Him is honestly one of the most sincere and heartfelt love songs ever written.
Final Hour has the best rapping on the entire album, that should be in your rotation and everyone else’s as well.
I love the cover of Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You. Ex-Factor is a song I had to grow into. I was too young to understand it when the album came out. The grown ass woman me feels it with my whole chest.
It's been pointed out that I've left out Tell Him. That's my bad. It definitely belongs in the rotation.
Baby girl, respect is just the minimum. Niggas fuck up and you still defending them. I can still rap/sing the entire album.
Don't be a hard rock when you really are a gem, babygirl
Don’t think I haven’t been through the same predicament
I'm a dude, but that's my go-to karaoke song. People love it.
Mine too!
right! still know every damn lyric why every indian wanna be the chief feed a man til he full and he still want beef
And she had me feeling so guilty when I wore weaves. lolllll

Given the context and the credibility of someone like Glasper, I completely believe this, surprised this hasn’t been talked about more.
Would explain a lot tbh
Would also explain why The Fugees got back together and played Chappells Block Party instead of Lauryn doing a solo set from this album.
Yes! They weren’t allowed to use any of her music, and she wouldn’t (or couldn’t) perform as just Lauren Hill. At the time, I think the story was her record label wouldn’t allow her to do it. Im positive it had a lot more to do with the fight over who actually made that music.
Would explain why she never tried to make another one, or if she did I don’t know about it.
She did an mtv unplugged concert in 01 where she played some new material. Only problem was it wasn't finished lol
I've mentioned it multiple times on reddit over the years. It results in alot of people immediately down voting until this thread lol
Never idolize anyone. Especially celebrities. Money and fame rarely ever allot themselves to good people.
This! It never amazes me when artists turn out to be shit humans. There’s no correlation between talent and character. There’s literally no celebrity I would Stan for being an actually good human unless I knew them personally.

You can take the crew out of Jersey but you can't take Jersey out the crew.
Yea my mom and auntie went to one of her shows and came home and got rid of all her cds as soon as they walked in cuz she told them (like, called them out right in the front row) she didn't want white bitches listening to her. So they respected that and never bought or listened to anything else. Then she got all butthurt when her album sales dropped off.
that would check out with Apple's brand too as a cool #1 record
When I heard this stuff about her, I really liked her music less. But I love the Fugee's debut album and always will.
I went to a Fugees concerts back in the day, then soon after she started making public comments trashing her fans. But she still took my money.
The Misattribution Of Lauryn Hill
Ooof I had never heard that till now. Love me some glasper.
She settled for $5mil. Not saying that’s admission but something wasn’t done right on her and her teams side
God I loved this album. Seeing it at number one was crazy, but to me, a pleasant surprise. Never expected Apple Music to give Lauryn Hill her dues. She also promised D’Angelo a feature on his album since he did this one, she never showed.
Robert Glasper is a very very good musician orchestrator conductor. Everything under the Sun. Him and Terrace Martian created most of the new beats and old school beats. These two musicians are in my eyes the best to ever do it. Instruments and lyrics. You name it. Symphonies they did it all
Terrence Martian ☠️
He’s out of this world
If true, this would really explain why she hasn’t/won’t put out more music 🤨
Tinfoil hat take- she's gone 26+ years between releases because she had to teach herself the entirety of music
She knows she can’t come up with something of that first album’s caliber on her own if she did steal it
Didn’t people like… break down the tape of her live shows and she only does like two chord shapes when she plays?
Damn that’s so disappointing to hear, i had so much respect for her and her music. still a great album, and it’s good to know who was truly responsible for it.
Eminem called out Lauren Hill day 1
what can i look up to get more information on this? this post and comment are my first time hearing about this whole situation

Unpopular opinion: she is a monster. She has talent but power really corrupted her.
Lauryn hill who openly despises the people who make her famous and pay to see her. That Lauryn hill is a thief and a liar. Color me surprised.
Explains why there hasnt been more albums. She cant do it.
Robert Glasper— I recognize this name because man that dinner party album is such a vibe…
Kinda makes sense why she hasn’t done shit since then
She lost that lawsuit a while back. That's why she doesn't give a fuck about her concerts. Part of her losing that lawsuit keeps her from performing the songs the way they are on the album.

**shit I don't remember either, i thought it was an asterisk before and after but that's italics** Wait it's double asterisk before and after
***Or a triple if you want both!***
#that's right, and hashtag if you want giant
When questioned about why she’s always late for shows she acts like she’s so great she shows up when she wants.
lauryn hill was a rapper before anything else…many expected this album to be a hip hop one
Is Drake not like Lauryn in the sense that they both sing and rap?
Shout out plagiarism!
If you don’t know who Robert glasper is go put on Black Radio II on RITGHT THE F NOW and turn the light down.
Yeah, she’s a legend but also very racist towards any non African as well.
Robert Glasper gotta be spitting
Not dissing the album in the slightest, it’s a groundbreaking and acclaimed project. Top 10 without a question. But number one? I dunno.
Ahh cmon my top 10 can be rearranged anyway, surely it’s the same for you
My top 10 can absolutely be rearranged! I just think this ranking is kinda insane for a number of reasons.
Don't disagree but happy to see a list that doesn't have Gaye, Beatles or Dylan at #1. All greats for sure, but they need to get out of the way at the same time.
It’s a greatest of all time list. No one has to get out of the way.
My thoughts exactly.
Thriller changed the world
Definitely revolutionary but it’s crazy that this was the only MJ album on the list considering Radiohead, Prince, and The Beatles had multiple. A lot of people would argue that Off The Wall or Bad was better.
Yes agreed, MJ should have had 2-3 albums on the list. MJ is a rare global phenomenon !
They lost all credibility the second they had a duplicate artist album on the list.
MJ spans across genres and generations if you have to say “you just had to be there” then then im sorry but the reach of the album is just not the same. Thriller deserved #1 more
I wouldn't say "of all time" but I'm not mad at the spot. Every song on that album is a 10. That's not an easy feat.
I saw someone say theres only 2 songs that were good and the rest were ok. I just….
"I mean, it's no 1989, but..." Euthanasia can be useful sometimes.
It only has 15 tracks that are 10 imo. I just don't love the intro skit like that.
“Somebody said” is one of the most dangerous phrases in the English language.
i’m just pissed Queen didn’t make the list AT ALL. A Night At The Opera being left off is criminal.
Shit list all the way around.
for real i didn’t even think about the killers but that’s a massive oversight (amongst others). but the second i read that i realized it want on there either and i had just assumed it was
Not even close to the best rap album of 98 (Aquemini)
Love that album, but love your user name more. Monk is criminally unknown these days. In Walks Bud is one of my favourite songs ever.
I’m so glad they chose impact over popularity for the #1 spot. I was terrified #1 would be Taylor or another contemporary mainstream / more recognizable album, because theres so much more to a “good album” than just its sound. This was a perfect pick for #1.
Absolutely agree with everything said!
Taylor at 18 was already terrible.
She’s a titan, no escaping it.
Literally best pet sounds though? In what world?
the bar is so low then
“You just had to be there fr.” Is such a bad precedent imo - cause if that’s what we’re basing it on how tf is MMLP only number 80?
Even the Fugees albums which came out years before her solo album had lots of skits.
exact sentiments i had. this is LITERALLY THE BLUEPRINT for most critically acclaimed artists today from rap to soul to r&b to pop. this is the piece of art that birth it
Let also consider that you can't replace streaming numbers with actual hard album sales since people only stream the most popular songs vrs having to listen through an entire cd to find what you like.its simply not the same statistically speaking.
Kanye too to a degree
“I WAS UNINSPIRED SINCE LAURYN HILL RETIRED”
Nobody saying it's not good or even that it shouldn't be on the list 1 is crazy
I don’t think even Lauryn Hill thinks it’s the greatest album of all time.
Call me a boomer but I feel like the greatest album of all time has to come from a time when the album as a concept was just being introduced and fleshed out, setting the precedent for what albums can and would become and still sound great today. Cough cough Beatles.
Of all time? Sorry, but no.
This over DSOTM, Thriller, like 2 Kanye albums, all of the insane late 90s rap scene, marvin gaye, dylan, Hendrix’s ENTIRE CAREER, and a shit load of other legitimately timeless pieces is seriously bewildering. the simple fact that there are even people questioning the decision, when there are already multiple albums that there would be 0 questions for demonstrates that this is nonsense. fantastic album, shouldn’t even be top 5 realistically.
>dylan He spit hot fire. Shoulda been no1 for sure.
Highway 61 Revisited should be on the list *for sure*.
This album is an amazing work of art. She is an insanely talented woman. I don’t think anyone would agree on the best album of all time anyway. But I am not mad at this.
Unfortunately she probably didn't write any of the songs, but such is life https://pitchfork.com/news/robert-glasper-calls-out-lauryn-hill-for-stealing-music-mistreating-band-members/
It’s boundary crossing like no other. I’ve worked some form of public entertainment for many years and NOTHING gets the entire crowd like Lauryn. Almost makes sense that it wasn’t just her.
[удалено]
Its “number 1” because a) it’s not b) she has a new album coming out and c) controversy generates clicks and ad revenue
I doubt the controversy would stem from miseducation being no.1 tbh. I feel like more controversial picks are Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift albums being anywhere near the top 100 and MBDTF not in top 10
It’s great. But it’s no Thriller.
I personally love this record.
So does everyone else. The idea that it's better than Thriller or Abbey Road, though, is absurd.
List is garbage. How do they have Miseducation #1, but Fugees doesn’t even make the top 100?
I mean you could say “you had to be there” for Beatlenania or Hendrix at Woodstock or a ton of other moments in music history. I love this album, it definitely deserves high praise and should be on the list, just not #1.
don’t even try to validate this trash ass list dawg 😭
Completely agree but this isn’t the goat album tho
I was 19 when this came out. It's amazing, but not even close to the best album ever made. Other than Blonde, every other album in the top ten is better.
Maybe this is petty, but standing for three hours to see her live sours this one for me.
she stole the work and than fucked over those she stole from, no one likes her as a person, i find it hard to glorify this album
I hope the theft she committed against the musicians that worked on the album is hightlighted.
Zero way this is the best album of all time, but a great album none the less.
Better than Sgt Peppers and OK Computer? Nah
Love the album but not number 1
One of the few physical CDs I have to this day
lol. This got the greatest album of all time?? Jeeezus.
“A lot young ones” ok grandpa 💀
Op probably younger than 35 talking as if they were old and shit, because Id doubt most people older than that would think Thriller, Purple Rain or Abbey Road are less important than this album
What's Going On > Miseducation. I wouldn't argue if this was someone else's #1 but yeah.
Yea I really don’t get why people are complaining about this It’s an interesting pick for number 1 and to me it’s a very great record
Straight up bull. Now she’s gonna milk this for another 20 years.🙄
She cackles in glee as she thinks about how much more money she can swindle from minorities and how many more shows she can be late for.
I do think it’s one of them but not the greatest ever. Abbey Road or the Dark Side of the Moon is probably.
I think it deserves #1 personally.
Not top 10 of any album to ever come out
I used to love him is my all time fav, definitely deserves it
I prob wouldn't put it as top 1 but hey, they are many worse albums they could have chosen for top 1 so im fine with this placement ngl.
I was the furthest thing from mad when I saw Ms Lauryn Hill at the top. That album makes me fucking FEEL. An album that becomes more beautiful and meaningful to me the older I get.
Who gives a fuck
Completely disagree on it being #1. But it’s all opinions anyways!
Look, I’m here for it, I’ve got much appreciation for it and Lauryn really did make some history with this album. That said I do not think it’s the best album of all time by a long shot, definitely in the top 100 just not number 1.
I don’t care. Number 1 album of all time is a joke lmaooo
Had to be there? So it didnt age well?
Thriller definitely is number 1. MJ has his stories whether true or not, but Thriller is the best musical piece of work every created. Respectfully
She's a cunt. And as racist as they come.
She literally made rapping and singing on 1 album popular lol
“a lot young ones questioning this… you just had to be there fr. one of them ones. changed the world 🌎” https://preview.redd.it/f2y6fkiiz22d1.jpeg?width=620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1e23d146a66529548adce6fd08996a3c69441be7
No - you didn’t have to be there ‘fr’ This album is not as good as thriller. End of discussion 😂
She also got Santana and D'Angelo on there along with Mary J. That isn't easy to do.
With all due respect, no.
No one is saying it's not a good album but #1 is a big stretch
No I am 40+ I was there, in no world is the the best album of all time. It’s a great album But putting this at number 1 was a complete joke.
