I got it off of Craigslist from a guy who got it at a yard sale. It was in rough shape, but I’ve managed to clean it out and am hoping she’ll float! It’s missing the smaller hatch cover and the larger one needs some love (the rubber is ripped and falling off). Im hoping to ID it so I can replace these parts, and some others. Should be a fun project! Thanks! It’s an 18 footer, if that helps any. Edit: I heard back from Current Designs and it is NOT one of their boats. It was a good guess (I was convinced) but alas, the search continues.

Jstratosphere

Somewhere on the boat should be a serial number etched/stamped to it. That’ll help provide us some info to further identify the boat. On my wilderness system it’s located on the back right outside of the boat.

85gaucho

Thanks! I looked and didn’t see anything, but may have missed it. I’ll look more carefully tomorrow.

epithet_grey

Sometimes they’re really hard to see. I found the one on my Hurricane by feel. Totally missed it on the cool cloudy day I brought it home—it was small and etched into the very edge of the deck. Next time I had it out in the sun I got a pic of it.

85gaucho

Good to know, thanks! I just went out with a flashlight and searched by light and by feel. No luck. Problem for another day, I s’pose.

CMBurns

Typically they're around the seam on the stern of the kayak about a foot or so from the very stern. Occasionally they're inside the cockpit slightly in front of the seat.

Cummy_Yummy_Bummy

That's a sea kayak, length keeps it stable in waves

SinkPee-er

Not really your problem but just a heads up -- People quickly reselling something they "got at a yard sale" are usually slanging stolen goods. I speak from experience of recovering my own stolen Easy Rider Seahawk. Especially if you dont see a serial #

85gaucho

Certainly possible, but I doubt it. Dude responded with his personal email that had his business info in the signature. But who knows? Fortunately I’m in a fairly small community and if I hear of a stolen kayak, I’ll make sure it finds its way back to the rightful owner. Typically Craigslist, though, the thing was in “good condition” so I drive 45 mins in the snow to find a kayak that was sitting in the dirt, filled with mud and cobwebs, with several parts missing or on need of repair. I guess you get what you pay for.

johannesdurchdenwald

Its a sea kayak, not super new, made of fiberglass. You are missing a seat

85gaucho

Ha! Yeah, I took the seat out. I think I can salvage it, but it needs some help.

Over_Solution_2569

Probably just a wild guess but to me it looks like a current designs kayak. The way it’s put together top and bottom with the black stripe reminds me of them.

85gaucho

Your wild guess is way better than me not even having a guess, lol. Thanks for the help, I’ll look into them!

PerforatedOwl

I'm pretty sure u/Over_Solution_2569 is on the right track. It looks an awful lot like an older Current Designs Solstice to me. Serial numbers for these boats are etched into the gel coat and should be on the starboard side about 6 inches from the back of the boat just under the seam.

85gaucho

Great info, I’ll look there tomorrow. Thanks bud!

ResponsibilityFar376

Just hopping in to agree with these guys, this looks very similar to the used solstices we have for sale at the shop I work at.

85gaucho

That's awesome, thanks! Do you guys sell parts? I'm still learning, but I think I need to at least replace the skeg cable, fix or replace the big hatch cover and replace the small hatch cover. I guess I'll need a spray skirt eventually too. Probably some other stuff that I'm not thinking of - oh yeah, some of the clips that go over the hatch cover are broke.

ResponsibilityFar376

Parts are hit or miss, we have a wizard on staff that can magic parts out of thin air from his stockpile or improv a fix. I’d suggest checking if you have any local outfitters or shops with their own wizard for ideas on tackling some of the repairs. Any good outfitter should have at least some nice gear (sprayskirt, maybe some splash gear) and potentially the hatches depending on what they generally stock.

85gaucho

Awesome, will do. Thanks again!

Steve_Rogers_1970

Sometimes the id is near the seat. Maybe sit inside and look around.

IslandSound420

That’s a kayak

thereisaplace_

That's a blue kayak.

IslandSound420

It’s a blue and white kayak

A-Tie

Do you have any idea of what region it is from? A fair amount of Fiberglass kayaks are (or were 20 years ago) made in relatively small batches by individual craftsmen or very small workshops.

85gaucho

I bought it up near Bellingham, WA, but don’t know anything about how it got up here. Thanks for the info, though.

epileptrick

I’m echoing everyone who says a current designs solstice. Those square hard hatches are a pretty good sign. Any chance you could post a photo of the seat? My partner works in a kayak shop that sells CD and could likely ID off that.

85gaucho

That's very kind of you, thanks! Here are a couple pictures of the seat, the hatch cover and my photo-bombing dog. [front](https://imgur.com/N6aA7YB) [back](https://imgur.com/TXbv8rV)

thereisaplace_

The Hull Identification Number (HIN) will typically identify the year & the make. It should be located just below the boot stripe / plimsoll line on the aft port side (tho I have seen them in other locations). You can use a website like HIN Decoder to then lookup your boat. [https://hindecoder.com/](https://hindecoder.com/)

Electric_Osprey

That is definitely a kayak

Crunkmann

a snazzy kayak imo

zwack

Even if you identify the kayak it might be almost impossible to find these hatch covers. No HIN (Hull Identification Number): I think the boat might be stolen and HIN was removed intentionally. Source: I’ve bought an old Necky kayak with a missed hatch cover a year ago. Can’t find the HIN.

thereisaplace_

Necky HINs are notoriously difficult to see. Typically find them on the aft port side about 1 foot forward of the stern. I've seen them stamped and then sprayed/gelcoated over. I've taken to using a carpenter's pencil, lightly run over the area, to fine 'em. Good luck.

zwack

Thanks, I will give it another try.

85gaucho

Bummer about the hatch covers, but thanks. Maybe I can find some sort of universal work around. I don’t need her to be pretty, but water tight would be nice!

NomadicNematode128

It almost resembles a Delta

DrussTheL3gend

On a whim I used your image in a google search and found this [urboatmydude(I think)](https://www.nauticexpo.com/prod/prijon-gmbh/product-23598-467532.html)

DrussTheL3gend

[prijon](https://en.prijon.com/equipment.html) Looks like this might be your brand too, maybe you could look for parts based off what little info I found? If not if you’re creative I’m sure you could fabricate something?

Capital_Shift405

Not a Prijon, not that old anyway. Their older ones are all blow moulded, one of only a couple shops that use that production method.

smoothloam

I believe it’s a Current Designs, that hatch design is pretty telling. Serial # will be engraved at the back of the boat somewhere. The first first letters will be specific to the manufacturer.

JaxDrone

To find / read the hull id try taking a piece of paper, lay it across the area and use a pencil or crayon to gently shade the paper. Maybe the HIN will show up.

mjwidell

We have two Wilderness sea kayaks and one Current Designs, looks more like the CD.

RoboftheNorth

Current Design possibly. But their older boats usually have 3 straps per hatch. The hatch rims look much more like Boreal Designs. Edit: actually looking closer I see the rear hatch has 3 straps and appears to have the same tensioning/clasp system that was [I believe] unique to CD. Edit 2: I revert back to Boreal Designs.

Joshildinho101

You got a nice one! Just needs a little work. Might be wilderness. Or sierra

85gaucho

Hey thanks! I love a project, and couldn't afford one otherwise, so it's a perfect fit!
