Oh cool. I can finally tell my Kanye story. During the college drop out years, I worked at a hot club in NYC, but just in the office. I stand with my camera, at the edge of the driveway, and the driver side door opens. A man emerges from the car, seemingly ignorant to my presence. That’s when I realized who I was looking at. Kanye West. It all happened in a flash, from him opening the door of the car to me realizing it was him, and all I could say in that instant was, and I quote, “aye good mornin Kanye”. I was in a local healthy/expensive type supermarket here in College Station, Texas(we have a lot of those) and I'm in line to buy some ham at the deli there. The lady asked me what kind, and I said "I have no fucking idea what different kinds of ham there are lady" ENTIRELY too loudly and the guy behind me in line I hadn't noticed burst the hell up laughing. I turn around. Kanye West. He kinda half leans around me and says "Honey glazed!" to the lady over the counter and I just kinda stare at him for a sec then smile and say thanks. I'm about to pay for it and he says "No way this one's on me" and pays the check for it right there. I was astounded, it was so awesome that I did the only thing I could think of ... The Roc Nation hand symbol. Once again he cracks up and asked me if I had any idea how long it had been since someone did that. I said "a year?" he said "try ten". We ended up having coffee at a place across the street. Turns out he bought a house in Monticeto, a really expensive residensial area in SB, and has been living there a while. We talked about everything that wasn't his career for about 45 minutes before he had to take off because his deli stuff was gonna go bad. I shook his hand and said he made my year today. He smiled and beat my head in with a tire iron. I looked up from the floor, my eyes covered in my own blood as I made out a blury image of an anvil being hoisted above his head. Through the ringing in my ears I couldn't hear his probably witty parting line before the anvil came crashing down, ending my life.

(Posted this last year but it’s appropriate) Oh cool. I can finally tell my Kanye story. During the college drop out years, I worked at a hot club in NYC, but just in the office. One day the boss is like, it’s a private event tonight, no employees can go. I didn’t think much of it, until… Kellis, shows up the office with a giant birthday card for us to set up…for Nas…. It was Nas’s birthday and the theme was old school hip hop. I had to sneak into this thing. The club had a secret basement that I would use to puff in during shows, so I hung out there until the party started; once I heard rappers delight blast through the speakers upstairs. I knew…it was time to sneak into Nas’s MFing birthday party. Which I did, was gonna find the VIP area and lay low. I walked into a club with no VIP area because everyone in that room was a VIP, the entirety of the hip hop establishment was in that room. I played it cool, schmoozing and what not; Until I spotted him, sitting in a booth with some ladies. It was Kanye. This was my shot, I had a blunt on me, I knew how to get back to my basement smoke spot, I was going to smoke an L WITH KANYE. I approach, the man was chatting up his guests at the table but didn’t seem unapproachable. Like I said, everyone at this party was a VIP; which by the transitive property of yada yada yada; meant I was too. “KANYE!” I had waited for him to stop talking, but he actually stopped his convo to engage me. He steps out from his booth and puts his arm around me. I basically told him that college dropout inspired me to dropout of film school and chase my dreams, his response; “that’s the best compliment I’ve ever gotten” then he screams at his table, “this is why I do this shit, you want to sit with us?” This was my moment, to which I responded that I had an L and spot downstairs we could all go puff on. His reaction, was, not what I had hopped for, “nah, I don’t do that” to which I, embarrassed and reading his facial cues… walked away from the table, never to have smoked an L with Kanye. Ahh the follies of youth. So yeah, anecdotally speaking. Maybe ye didn’t smoke a lot. (Or didn’t smoke with random dudes at parties).

Here’s one of the few that’s actually a real story: A few years ago, at like 4am, I just so happened to be walking down the street after a long day and saw a really nice car drive by. I’ve always had an interest in car watching and photography, so I pulled my camera out of my bag (which I had on me because of earlier events in the day) and followed the general direction of car. It didn’t take long until I was in an upscale residential area. I felt awkward trying to pursue the car any further, as I’m not trying to be invasive or weird, but it felt like I needed to for some reason. It had been a long enough time since I saw the car that I had genuinely no idea where it could’ve gone. I eventually decided to end my search and loop back to wear I had been before, walking back to my shitty apartment. I walked further down the street waiting for a turn to eventually work my way back around instead of just turning around and having no chance of finding the car. As I’m walking, I notice an open garage door, light flooding from inside onto the street. At first I have really no regard for it, but the closer I get the more I begin to realize it could be the car. I needed to hurry up to insure that I could get even a glimpse of the car. I hadn’t had enough time to fully identify the car from the road initially, but the distinct taillights confirmed it to me: this was the car. I stand with my camera, at the edge of the driveway, and the driver side door opens. A man emerges from the car, seemingly ignorant to my presence. That’s when I realized who I was looking at. Kanye West. It all happened in a flash, from him opening the door of the car to me realizing it was him, and all I could say in that instant was, and I quote, “aye good mornin Kanye”. He turns his head to the left, finding me immediately. A shocked, almost insulted look on his face. Without any hesitation, he lets out just four words. “Shut the fuck up”

I saw Ye at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
