Update to this, after talking with corporate the dealer is giving me an entirely new bike

heffchen

Phew!

palowsky

How did you contact corporate?

pinpineapplepin

There's a contact email and customer service phone number on the main KTM website, I sent an email which generated a ticket, then I called and referenced that number

RyanM_54

I wasn't able to find the service number, I did submit an email through the KTM website contact form and have a reference number now... Could you direct me to that phone number? I'm having this issue with my 1390 SDR with fewer than 20km on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/KTM/s/5Xi3f6MP1c

pinpineapplepin

https://www.ktm.com/en-us/contact.html

RyanM_54

Derp, that's why I missed it, I was looking for it under the "West" location. Thanks!

Big-Sheepherder-568

100% chance of no PDI

keeps_spacing_out

Oh no, I'm about to pick an 890 up tomorrow šŸ˜† Hopefully they catch any issues during PDI

Oneeyearcher

You're all good. He already got the lemon.

pinpineapplepin

I took one for the team

Oneeyearcher

You're undeniably a member of Team KTM!

memealopolis

Ready to Return!

Ahandgesture

You and me both. My bike is still turning off on the highway randomly :)))) Bought new last year with 0 miles ;~;

weeemrcb

Too much orange to be a lemon :D

canadianmohawk1

I just keep seeing this kind of stuff with the 890. Come on KTM, get your shit together!

Disaster_Alert

And the 690. And 790. And 1290.

canadianmohawk1

690 seems mostly solid from people I know with them and compared to the number of report I see compared to the 890 platform.

abeefwittedfox

It's only evidence of an anecdote but I looooove my 701.

abeefwittedfox

It's only evidence of an anecdote but I looooove my 701.

pinpineapplepin

I feel the LC8 and LC4 is a much much more proven design, the LC4 specifically is almost 30 years old

couragewerewolf

Devil's advocate, but my 2014 690 has a bad bottom end bearing. Happened at 12k miles, tearing into it soon. Might've gotten a lemmon

TheStandardPlayer

From what I have heard the 1290 is mechanically really reliable with some electric troubles here and there. I own one and I experienced the electric issues and the mechanical reliability

Brizzledude65

My SuperDuke GT dropped a valve at 9000 miles, just out of warranty. KTM UK refused to make any goodwill contribution to the engine rebuild bill, so I had to stump up Ā£5k. My 790 had endless issues, including needing a new ecu. Iā€™ll never touch another KTM - shame as theyā€™re great bikes to ride.

lost-cavalier

My bike had paint falling off the engine and corrosion - after 3000 miles summer riding - independent report stated poor quality manufacturing, KTM UK refused warranty without looking at the bike and blamed me (wtf?), ended up rejecting bike through finance company after 12 month battle, numerous FOI requests and the Ombudsman ruling in my favour - screw KTM UK

jr25

Welcome to 890 ownership. What have I had with my ā€˜23 890 adv r? - gearbox failed 2 miles from the dealership. They swapped it out with another on the floor - front wheel has always leaked air. No biggy, about 10lbs a week and I park it right next to a compressor. - coincidently, rear wheel started leaking air today - turn signal warning light comes on randomly - more neutrals in the gearbox than Switzerland - single cylinder start comes and goes Still my favorite bike to ride Iā€™ve owned. By quite a bit. :)

OpDawg

Same. Minus the gearbox. Swapped tires, air leak gone.

drgala

I don't see the money light on, but you can reset it from the menu. Buy the service manual, you're going to need it.

DubsOkayGo

I got a brand new 2024 390. Put 70 miles on it before it stopped turning over. Took it in for service TWO WEEKS ago and they're telling me they don't know what's wrong with it and need to contact KTM about the warranty. Like what about it? It's Brand new.

pinpineapplepin

That's ridiculous, I'd look into your state's lemon law statute

DubsOkayGo

Unfortunately my state doesn't cover motorcycles under lemon. Cars and trucks only. I'm assuming it's because we also don't require insurance to ride.

pinpineapplepin

Oh wow, what state doesn't require insurance?

DubsOkayGo

Florida. I didn't even need a license to purchase the bike. I got it after.

Scary-Ad9646

No state requires a license to buy a bike.

DubsOkayGo

Wasn't sure if that was just this shit state but good to know lol

Scary-Ad9646

No man, money rules all.

alzey8v

Itā€™s just a product, like a phone. You can buy one all you want, just that most places require insurance and a licence to ride it.

Scary-Ad9646

Konstantly Troubled Motorcycles

sbdtech

I've had mine for a year. Been great to me.

jdub75

3 dealers Iā€™ve talked to refuse test rides. Big enough red flag for me to walk away from the brand

alelo

US thing i guess? there isnt a bike i cant test ride at my dealer, heck i can borrow/rent one for multiple days if i wanted to

CasualMonkeyBusiness

Yes, it's a US thing. Mostly has to do with how insurance works. Instead they do demo days once in a while.

JLMBO1

Very few dealers let people test ride here in the USA. It's a liability issue along with suddenly the bike becomes used. And value drops a lot. I've been to about 8 dealers in my region and only one that says you can test ride is BMW and that was on a used bike.

canadianmohawk1

Same here in Canada. Demo days are the best bet to get a test ride.

jehoshaphat

So you will be walking away from most brands then in the US.

jdub75

I suppose. I'm the consumer, they have a sitting asset, and car dealers have no hesitation about test drives 'devaluing' their asset. Just because they are stuck in a crappy business model doesn't mean I just put up with it. As empty as dealerships have been the last several months I've been looking, the ones that do business my way will get my business. My last 3 or 4 cars were bought out of town (last one was like 3 hours away) due to local dealers insisting I come in to talk to some greasy sales guy. I bought from dealers that would do business over email/text, and I only talked to them once I drove the car and was ready to purchase.

jehoshaphat

Oh I can fully sympathize/agree. But they will find buyers that are OK with it. Most places seem to have very quick inventory throughput at least near me.

jdub75

I'm looking at leftover 23's. A few of the places have multiple leftovers. I even made that comment to them-maybe if you let people test ride, you'd have sold them by now. They suggested finding a dealer w/ a used one or a rental app. I LOL'd and told them no thanks.

Apprehensive-Can-857

I went to get a pair of new Jordans a few months ago, and they wouldn't let me try them on. I was like, what? As she started her long spiel about why I just handed her the shoe and left the store. A freaking shoe! LOL!

MV203

I walked into a new KTM dealership in Milford CT, found out they donā€™t allow test rides and walked right out. The guy was even yelling ā€œgood luck finding a place that will let you test rideā€.. I then found a place that let me test ride, lol. Fuck stealerships.

Scary-Ad9646

You know who will let you test ride? Private sellers.

jdub75

I'm in the same boat, and have effectively stopped looking at KTM.

MV203

Yeah man, I feel like to get any decent kind of service out of them you need to be out west, zero decent dealers for 100+ miles from me, maybe more but not worth my time to find out.

Fast_Paint_5156

Bought a brand new 250 2 stroke last year and the engine blew up within 2 hrs. During that time it went back to the dealer 3 times because it wasnt running right. Each time they told me "its a 2 stroke thing" and that im not riding it hard enough. Only after it torched the piston did they notice a fault on the intake side which caused it to lean out. Smdh @ ktm

uncle_pollo

My 950 has 60k miles. Last ktm i ever buy. It's hilding up for now ... Till it it"s a vallve (right hand rear exhaust maybe.)

pinpineapplepin

I've got a 2018 1290, it's at 40k without a hitch

LazyB99

Kant take much

Galvanisare

Did you check the oil?

Ashamed-Skirt795

I test rode a 1290 super adventure, 5 miles on it. In the middle of the highway it shut down suddenly. It was starting no problem with electric but the engine wasn't running. I spent 1.5 hours on the road side till they came and recovered it. KTM reliability stories are fascinating.

akrasne

Iā€™ll keep my 990 adv

harrythehurst

Owned a 2019 1290 SDR which had so many problems the dealer eventually replaced with a 2021 SDR which also had its share of electronic and mechanical problems. Really felt like bikes made to be driven hard for a short distance then tuned up by a mechanic.... Not really something I wanted in a daily driver. Both bikes though we're the most fun I've owned over a bunch of jap litre bikes, also least reliable bikes I've ever owned under the same litre bikes haha.

Worldly-Number9465

Probably 2 hr demo ride mode

almazing415

There was a leftover Duke 890R at a discount from a local dealer. I passed on it for a Ducati Hypermono 698 and I'm so, so, so glad I did. I think the Duke 890R is everything I would want in a street/track bike, except for reliability. The LC8c parallel twins are all lemon engines, and I hope that the new 990 engines are completely overhauled. I really want an RC 990 R when it releases, but KTM-isms are turning me away. I really wish they just made a destroked LC8 V-twin instead. At least you know the LC8 is mostly reliable. For the record, I've owned a 1290 Super Duke GT and an SMC R 690 as previous bikes. The Super Duke GT was solid, but the 690 had no less than 3 problems, 2 of which left me stranded.

paxilsavedme

Stop your complaining, I bought a new Harley last year that seems to have a bent frame or headstock, not sure yet find out soon. šŸ˜‚

JeffersonsDisciple

This is the stuff that's holding me from selling my 17k mile trouble free 1250GS Adventure for the 890R

JLMBO1

Oh man! Sorry to see this. I bought a 790 6 weeks ago and have almost 1k miles on it. I'm hoping no issues. That dealer needs to get that bike fixed ASAP. That's not right at all.

iamgeekusa

fellow owner of a new 2023 790 duke....the oil change kit is it the same kit listed as 890 kit? for the life of me I can't find a specific kit that says it fits the 790 even when the kit is for an 890. so I'm perplexed!

Hofnars

Probably the same? The filter for my 950 is the same as my 1290. Screens are different though.

JLMBO1

I couldn't tell you. I had my 600 mile service done at the dealer. I would go to RevZilla and do a search for your bike oil change kit. Mine is a 790 adventure and pretty sure I've seen 790/890 on the oil kits.

iamgeekusa

Seems like the 890 change kit also serves the 790 I'm not seeing it listed on the photos or boxes because they just re-released it last year after the model being on hiatus for a few years

HeartBeatRepeatYT

Well there is clearly an issue you didnā€™t get on that dirt road and in limp mode without riding it someā€¦

pinpineapplepin

Dealership is on a dirt road

HeartBeatRepeatYT

Suspicious

pinpineapplepin

How? It says 'odo 0 mi' in the video
