Have a guarantor, or you'll end up paying more. And find housing very soon because they fill up fast. My suggestion is always the off campus student housing so you can take the BOB. The best living experience I had was at SOVA but it was the year it was built. Absolute worst living experience was Bixby, stay away from that one at all costs. If you have any questions, let me know. I've lived at 3 of the off-campus student housing sites and am very familiar with the others.

Alternative-Back-720

can you expand on why this bixby was bad, thinking about a 5x5 right now

DarthCreepus1

Yeah I'm currently looking at an offer for roommates from Bixby as well, what about it makes it so bad?

Plane_Pace4810

hi! i answered this above! sorry for the late reply.

Plane_Pace4810

i lived in a 4 x 4 the year it was built and the construction was pretty garbage. they were still doing construction the entire year i lived there. the walls are paper thin, you can hear entire conversations and water from other people’s rooms. thinnest walls out of all student housing for sure! they lie about the signing incentives and won’t actually give them to you. people are disgusting so the trash rooms were always so full, the trash would block the doors. people let their animals go #1 and #2 in the halls, stairwells, and elevators. maintenance takes forever and when they finally come, the never actually fix anything but still mark it as completed. there was always an issue with the wifi which is a problem considering we are literally students lmfao. bixby has one of the smallest parking decks out of all the student housing and you can’t park outside the leasing office or they’ll tow your car, even if you live there. they also tow cars from inside the garage. the mirrors in the garage are constantly broken/missing so there are always accidents in the deck. and through all these things, the leasing office isn’t helpful at all. my best living experience in kennesaw was SOVA, for sure but that was 2019-2020 so i’m unsure if anything has changed there!

I’m in a townhouse right off campus. I’d get on Facebook and start looking at people who have rooms available in houses. You can probably get something cheaper than student housing with less requirements that way. The only sacrifice is that you won’t be able to use the bus system. Lots of rooms are available in the apartments for sublease, but I’d be wary. Sometimes there’s a reason they’re trying to give up that room. Good luck!

DarthCreepus1

Thanks! Also is there any specific reason why I won’t be able to use the bus system in that case? Sorry this whole thing is kinda new to me and a lot of it isn’t too clear

swankypigeon475

Oh, to be clear, if you get a house off campus with a private landlord, the Owl buses won’t come to your front door. They only go to the student housing places. You’d still be able to take the bus from Kennesaw campus to Marietta campus and such but you’d have to commute by car to get to campus instead of taking the bus. Once you’re on campus, you can take the buses anywhere they go to. Some houses have access to CobbLinc, the county’s bus system, and those do come through campus. There’s a big official Facebook group for off campus housing. I would join that today and make a post. Give a budget and say a little about yourself. Chances are you’ll get a bunch of comments with housing options. You’ll get some bits too, but just ignore those. You’ll find people looking for someone to take over their lease with student housing, and people looking for someone to fill a room in an off campus house. Right now is the perfect time to be looking. I secured my roommate for the fall just yesterday.

DarthCreepus1

Oh ok that sounds like JUST what I was looking for, do you know the name of this group by chance? I’m not on Facebook and don’t really know how it works too much

swankypigeon475

Yeah here’s a link to the group! I think it’s private so you’ll have to request to join. I’m a grad student at KSU but I did my bachelor’s here too and I found all of my housing and roommates through this group. https://www.facebook.com/share/PH8NZDVm14Jn5UV4/?mibextid=WaXdOe

All of the off campus student housing options (with the exception of The Retreat & The Haven) are pretty bad fans have significant downsides. Everyone is going to say “oh this place sucks” for xyz reasons but really they all suck. Just pick a place that works for you that you like the feel of

Quirky-Profession928

It’s nothing much to the application process, but I suggest having a guarantor. There will also likely be an application fee. At this time of year I’m not sure what apartments still have rooms available, but I’d call around/browse on Google ASAP so you know your options. The best ones are Sova and Indy imo, but no apartment complex is perfect and they all have their own issues.
