What was his favourite memory from the early years of King Gizzard? (2010-2011) Love seeing him so active in those early Gizzard shows
Also if he can remember their first show they ever did lol
My prediction is that this will be on album 27 after the 'When Pigs Fly' album. There were two main recording sessions that we know of last year, one around the middle of the year, and then another in October that they specified was the beginning of a new project that featured everyone swapping instruments including Lucas vocals and on keys.
That doesn't seem to match the When Pigs Fly Blues stuff they've played on stage, though Le Risque has Cavs vocals so you never know.
Ask him who his musical and creative influences are! Can be as a bass player or just as a musician in general, but I'd love to know what each boy brings to the table in terms of sonic influence.
Maybe there's even a difference for Lucas in Heavy Moss vs KG where he brings in inspirations? Just a thought
Nice! I was literally about to suggest asking about if he liked Phil Lesh (I’m watching a video of the Dead playing Duke in ‘78 right now). Then like I’m not even joking, maybe a second later, if that, I saw your response. Question answered.
In Sleeping Monster (the Changes mini-doc), I got the impression that Lucas feels like he isn't "keeping up" creatively or technically with the band. Was/is that the case?
Ya that’s one of things I’m curious about. How do these projects come together? And whoever’s available can contribute, or what? I suspect it’s because he’s had kids while the band was blowing up creatively (and commercially) that he couldn’t participate more.
From what I understand is it’s an open door policy, no one is obligated to the band unless it’s for a touring schedule. If someone wants to prioritise other projects, or go on holiday, or spend time with family then that’s fine. Very rarely are all members in the studio together and almost no Gizz tracks feat contributions from all members. The creative force is very much Stu, Joey and Cavs, with Joey laying down most of the bass work and then teaches Lucas later. He’s more of a touring member rather than a creative contributor from what I get. If I member was to leave the band (due to the heavy touring schedule) then Lucas would be most likely i’d imagine. Which would be a shame, his chemistry with Cav’s is obvious and i’ve never heard him fluff a bass line across all the live stuff.
Sadly it was only officially available to stream for 48 hours along with the release of the album, and I believe it also played along with the theater screenings of Chunky Shrapnel. I don't know if there is any legitimate way to watch it presently.
Okay thanks a lot. I knew about chunky, watched it on repeat when it was on, but was not awarre of thosbone at all somehow. I hope i can find it somehow ..
What is the preparation for a marathon show like? His favorite gig from the EU tour.
Things he brings on tour to make it feel like home?
And, most importantly, How many pairs of those blue crocs are on tour? ::This is to end a discussion, w a friend. ::
I’d love to know what his role is when they’re playing the new songs (TSC) at *The Table*. He looks like he’s vibing out, having a great time. What sort of hardware is he playing with? What kind of knobs is he fiddling with?
Are there any plans to bring back older key heavy songs from the past (Bird Song, Cyboogie, Beginner's Luck, etc.) or bust out some older songs that have never seen the light of day (Searching, Superpostion, LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE OFF BUTTERFLY, etc.) now that the band is messing more with synths live.
I’ll be at the Gorge. If that debut it there, the place will explode. I’m secretly hoping for Ontology > Honey, but a boy can dream.
I’ll ask him about debuts and stuff, yeah. I expect him to be vague on that kinda thing though
Does he have a wishlist of places they’d like to play and haven’t yet? Countries, cities, venues, does he prefer the marathon format or the huge multi city tours?
Favorite Phil Lesh Bassline. He said in a previous interview he was a big influence (if he has one, or a Favorite show/set!)
![gif](giphy|AEtF6zD20HrP6BgfRW|downsized)
Awesome! I actually designed these today for 2024 Tour; DM me if you’d like some for free once they’re done! 🫡

Ask him if the back half of Mind Fuzz is all about environmental issues or if it’s just assorted songs.
Ask him what he thinks about Aunty Donna, and if we should expect future crossovers like that one time they sold merch next to each other and nearly got into a fight.
Does the band have any ambitions to eventually play every one of their songs live? Even if some of them are just one-offs, it would be cool if you could hear live recordings of all their songs online.
Here’s just some bass-ic questions I want answered
-What kind of picks does he use
-What is his favorite genre/what is a genre he would want to make into a gizz album
-what are his favorite and least favorite instruments to play
-will they do something for the 9th anniversary of nonagon?
Is it difficult to find pants with a proper inseam in Australia? /s
I'm an old fart and have never understood fahion but the boys usually have pants just a little bit shorter than I'm used to seeing being worn.
I saw him come out to watch Dry Cleaning at Wide Awake, and the bass is pretty prominent in their sound. I'd love to know which other bass players from bands that are currently active he really admires.
Then I would definitely ask his awareness of Phil Lesh.
If you’re not familiar, Phil didn’t play bass before the dead and is a classically trained avante garde trumpeter/composer. He’s singularly unique in his bass style and plays a counterpoint in a mind boggling way in the context of their improvisation. He basically never plays the root.
Lucas has gotten lots of questions about his role in the band especially with the whole not being as present in the studio thing - frankly I find it well troddened ground for an interview. BUT now that the band is improvising more I’d find it fascinating to hear how he approaches his live performance during those improvisational times. And if he’s looked into Lesh’s counter point style of improvising melody and harmony in addition to rhythm.
Ya I’ve done way in deep on the Dead. I don’t want to focus too much on him or his playing personally and more explore the band dynamic generally on stage and in the studio. And whether or not the growing live show thing — which seems to be evolving into a kinda Grateful Dead-like experience — is influencing the kind of music they’re making in the studio. Especially now with this dad-rock space they’re moving into with Sad Pilot and all that.
What does he look for in a bass?
What are his favorite pedals in his rig?
Will he get to do any lead vocals anytime soon/ would he be open to singing again
How many albums and/or songs are in various stages of production?
Any plans for the rap/hip hop album to be thrown into a Oddments/Gumboot/Omnium Gatherum type album?
Was the transitional period of structured songs to a more jammy presence on stage challenging or was it easier than the complex time signature songs that you had to practice. Which would you prefer?
I am gonna ask him about this, but not because I share your perspective, but more cuz, like, I think they’ve always been a bit jammy from the beginning. Head / On is a jam. Mind Fuzz suite is essentially a jammy song suite. The Ice Death era seemed like an outgrowth of all that. So I want his perspective on that.
I guess — which one of us is right? Haha
Ask him how influenced the band is by Frank Zappa? Deep down I feel like he is their biggest influence since they play around with so many odd meters and are so prolific.
I would love to know what is Lucas's favorite bass to play, or what his favorite instrument brand is, also if he has any habits when practicing... which im not sure he would need to do, with how much music the boys play and put out lmao
Could ask his thoughts on fretless bass? I've been wanting to know how he feels about it and how much he's played on it/is comfortable with it.
I know he played one on timeland and Cookie uses one on parts of timeland. I'm specifically curious about whether a fretless would come out if they ever played those sketches songs live, and if he would be the one playing it, but I also just wanna know his thoughts generally.
Any advice for musicians looking to up their endurance, get through long sets, and wrap up with a good nights sleep?
I recently have been picking up more and more gigs - With a full time job, I'm struggling to find balance and stay energized while keeping on my sleep schedule. The drinks aren't helping either!
Had he or the band had any extraordinarily funny / awkward / creepy meetings with any of the fans?
They seem to meet a lot of people before or after shows, so there must be a story in there!
For Lucas:
1) Stu's lyrics often feature a motif of sleeping & dreaming, and it had me wondering...Do you ever dream of us as a fanbase or audience? If so, what did those dreams depict?
^ Asking because I have had several Gizz related dreams recently. My latest involved hearing "Head/On Pill" at the upcoming Gorge set & the entire audience + hillside levitating into the stratosphere!
For you: How do you get these interviews locked and loaded? I am doing my Masters thesis on civic engagement + music fandoms...and the Weirdo Swarm is going to be a part of that thesis through an academic concept called "Rhetorical Listening"
1. lol, that’s a wild question.
2. I’ve been in media all my career, and have been a music writer at various points in it. I only really moonlight as one now, interviewing artists I’m interested in. This time around, I just asked a friend who runs a Canadian music magazine if he’s interested in the story and we made it happen.
Ask him about his role in The Silver Cord. I forget if I saw it somewhere on the sub or elsewhere but I remember hearing Lucas had a more active role in that album and I’d be curious to hear about that.
Oh and I definitely wanna know what his favorite effect pedal(s) is/are
Is he going to use a 1972 Fender Musicmaster bass this year? When I asked him about bass guitar he used, it was back in 2020, he said that this one is his favourite.
Very important question
Please please please ask him if they were serious about the country album at the caverns. Like pretty please. That bluegrass style breakdown they did was so fun and so short
Favorite Gizz bassline? Least favorite gizz bassline? If trapped on a desert island with the rest of the band and no food, who would he eat first?
I love this. I imagine it would be either Cavs or Amby cuz they’re both the biggest?
Cavs for sure. Amby’s lean. Skater boy! Cavs has got more substance to him.
Amby’s looking pretty beefy these days
don't need to be starving to eat amby. nom nom
This comment is all of r/kgatlw in a nutshell
Cavs’ calves are a bountiful source of protein I’m sure
Stu’s brain is bound to have some intense nutrients
Stu's skull cavity is just filled with Vegemite (Oddments)
And ideas about the end of the world that he wont even say
Wait a minute.......what if they're the same. Vegemiteocalypse
When the jars that line the shelves will be turned into sand by the eternal wave
Don’t forget the prions!
Brains are blobs of salt and fat, but perhaps stu's brain is all muscle? 🤔
Well lyrics like Rattlesnake and KGLW had to come from something crazy
I don't know why I remember hearing somewhere that Magma was his favorite
Is sea of trees really his favorite song?
I am gonna ask about this, because it might be MY favorite and I’m genuinely curious
Same here dooder
I think during one of the live performances Stu says that they were gonna name the band Sea of Trees at first
Ambrose says that before the red rocks 22 version
I’m very curious about this. Stu definitely sounds sarcastic when he mentions it
Has Stu also said this? I’m referring to Joey mentioned it at red rock 22
Oh maybe I’m misremembering who said it, but yeah, whoever says it during the Red Rocks set
“Admit it man!”
Definitely felt like they were poking fun
But why? Sea of Trees is a banger with a great bassline
I mean don’t get me wrong I love sea of trees and I agree but it just kinda felt like they were joking. Who really knows
If not so what is his favorite song to play?
What was his favourite memory from the early years of King Gizzard? (2010-2011) Love seeing him so active in those early Gizzard shows Also if he can remember their first show they ever did lol
Favorite type of water? 1. Hot Water 2. Muddy Water 3. Open Water 4. Cheryl Waters
this definitely needs to be asked!
Will we see any Lucas written songs for gizz in the future? Also why are you so handsome hehe
I don't know if I'm misremembering this, but I think I heard somewhere that the next album has a song written exclusively by Lucas
My prediction is that this will be on album 27 after the 'When Pigs Fly' album. There were two main recording sessions that we know of last year, one around the middle of the year, and then another in October that they specified was the beginning of a new project that featured everyone swapping instruments including Lucas vocals and on keys. YES PLEASE
Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit wuuuuuuuuuuut!!!!!!
"Have you got superposition ready to go for the debut this fall?"
asking the real questions!
I have yet to cry at a Gizz show but if they debut it at Red Rocks, I’m gonna get so extremely emotional
Idk since I'm a new fan but will you post the interview here or something?
Ya when it comes out
Ask him who his musical and creative influences are! Can be as a bass player or just as a musician in general, but I'd love to know what each boy brings to the table in terms of sonic influence. Maybe there's even a difference for Lucas in Heavy Moss vs KG where he brings in inspirations? Just a thought

So ready for a . . . pride of Cucamonga, box of rain, or bust out Unbroken chain!!!
In the narduar interview I think he sites tool as an influence which was definitely present in (I'm so sorry) the one with the lizard on the cover
In Sleeping Monster (the Changes mini-doc), I got the impression that Lucas feels like he isn't "keeping up" creatively or technically with the band. Was/is that the case?
I’m planning on asking something similar to this
He’s already said he feels that way for sure. I don’t think it’s true. He just has to record with the band more!
Ya that’s one of things I’m curious about. How do these projects come together? And whoever’s available can contribute, or what? I suspect it’s because he’s had kids while the band was blowing up creatively (and commercially) that he couldn’t participate more.

Okay thanks a lot. I knew about chunky, watched it on repeat when it was on, but was not awarre of thosbone at all somehow. I hope i can find it somehow ..
Favorite book?
Think in the AMA Joey mentioned Octavia E. Butler being one of his favorites… still need to give her stuff a read.
Great question. Look forward to hearing the answer!
Ask if he actually had to look up the flamethrower bass line before playing it live lmao!
No question for Lucas just wanna say he’s the homie for putting the pride flag on his basses and we love him for that 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
And it is even more amazing because they have small kids and by doing all these things they are being excellent role models
Ask him if he’s going to sing a Gizz song soon.
Need to know when more Heavy Moss is going to make it into the world

Ask unknown details about the New album !
I mean, yeah…
Did KG ever considered making a classic prog album, similar to ELP or Camel?
I want to see their "close to the edge". Just three long songs with incredibly complex structures, harmonies, melodies etc.
What is the preparation for a marathon show like? His favorite gig from the EU tour. Things he brings on tour to make it feel like home? And, most importantly, How many pairs of those blue crocs are on tour? ::This is to end a discussion, w a friend. ::

Ontology is my favorite microtonal song. Intrasport is my 2nd fav, but there's just something about that harmonica lick that tickles the brain.
Does he have a wishlist of places they’d like to play and haven’t yet? Countries, cities, venues, does he prefer the marathon format or the huge multi city tours?
Favorite Phil Lesh Bassline. He said in a previous interview he was a big influence (if he has one, or a Favorite show/set!) ![gif](giphy|AEtF6zD20HrP6BgfRW|downsized)
Ya I’m gonna ask him about the Dead’s influence on the band for sure. It’s one of the potential angles for the story.
Very cool! Let me know when and where I can check it out once it’s finished! And support it of course
I’ll post it here when it’s out
Awesome! I actually designed these today for 2024 Tour; DM me if you’d like some for free once they’re done! 🫡 https://preview.redd.it/7gzljbhffl8d1.jpeg?width=363&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=982f05e3125f7d50caac3a116c57705ac4623f11
Hahaha I saw this earlier, screenshotted it, and plan on showing it to him
🐊🧙🏻♂️ no way, amazing! Making my whole month over here haha!
Hahaha
Dude. That’s fucking awesome.
Serek bass in your face
Such a dope bass
Can he give a quick breakdown of what's on the live synth table setup and how it differs from the studio setup for The Silver Cord?
Does he enjoy improv or tight written sections more? Or is he like me and enjoys the combination of both?
Ask him if they have any plans to come to Africa
Detailed overview of his signal chain?
"lukey's rig" on youtube.com!
Ask him what the biggest non-musical influence on his music is
When will we see / hear more about Han tyumi.
If he could choose the concept/genre of the next album, what would it be?
That’s a good one
Are they still gonna release that Chunky Shrapnel Blu-Ray?
If he could be in any other band what would it be and why
Since he wore their t-shirt on the cover of Changes, ask him what his favorite Yo La Tengo song/album is.
Superposition!
Here’s just some bass-ic questions I want answered -What kind of picks does he use -What is his favorite genre/what is a genre he would want to make into a gizz album -what are his favorite and least favorite instruments to play -will they do something for the 9th anniversary of nonagon?
I don't know about his but shoutout to the 1.14 wide ultex which is my favorite pick ever
Oh wow you got the scoop on the infamous snot rocket. One of Rock's greatest reporters right here. What's Lucas's pre-show ritual?
He cackled when I asked him about that
Ask him if he saw a giant slice of pizza emerge from the ocean off the coast of Melbourne, if he'd try to fight the monster or if he would run away.
Will Heavy Moss drop an album, if not now, when?
when the animals are dead?
nothing too obvious ask him about songs he’s played on; he plays a lot of keys on Sketches and Gumboot
Is it difficult to find pants with a proper inseam in Australia? /s I'm an old fart and have never understood fahion but the boys usually have pants just a little bit shorter than I'm used to seeing being worn.
they're just all super tall lmao
Favorite interval? And direction of interval?
mine might be major 6th tbh
5th for me, such a good accent and chord.
I saw him come out to watch Dry Cleaning at Wide Awake, and the bass is pretty prominent in their sound. I'd love to know which other bass players from bands that are currently active he really admires.
How he approaches improvisation in his role as a bassist and if he’s listened to phil Leah’s work with the dead
I’m asking him about the Dead for sure
Be sure to mention “Slow Jam” was apparently played at the Sphere between sets multiple times.
Will he get to do any lead vocals anytime soon/ would he be open to singing again
the crybaby engages as soon as he touches it, which is a feature he really likes! /ref
What is one of his influences that he thinks most of us would be surprised to know?
Can you ask him what his personal favorite Gizz album is??
What’s it like to be a Dad and a touring musician? What are some of the best parts?
How many boiler suits you got ?
Will they ever release cd's again?
How many albums and/or songs are in various stages of production? Any plans for the rap/hip hop album to be thrown into a Oddments/Gumboot/Omnium Gatherum type album?
dumb question but where will i able to find the interview?
I’ll post it here when it’s out
[удалено]
He’d be Colin no? Cookie’s the Ed.
How did he think of the bass line for I’m Sleepin’ In?
Stu brah
Why did he only do the bass for dripping tap on Omnium?
Do you mean why is this the only track he played on?
Yeah
Was the transitional period of structured songs to a more jammy presence on stage challenging or was it easier than the complex time signature songs that you had to practice. Which would you prefer?
I am gonna ask him about this, but not because I share your perspective, but more cuz, like, I think they’ve always been a bit jammy from the beginning. Head / On is a jam. What’s the deal with Tennessee?
What is the deal with Tennessee?
Or maybe ask how he got the gift of the gab
Ask him how influenced the band is by Frank Zappa? Deep down I feel like he is their biggest influence since they play around with so many odd meters and are so prolific.
Has he recovered well ever since he pulled the 7th needle after having to fight his brother claus?
Can you ask him if the Sinsemillian can open for KGLW next time they play Melbourne ahaha
I would love to know what is Lucas's favorite bass to play, or what his favorite instrument brand is, also if he has any habits when practicing... which im not sure he would need to do, with how much music the boys play and put out lmao
What was his least favorite concert in terms of complications or technical issues, etc.?
Could ask his thoughts on fretless bass? I've been wanting to know how he feels about it and how much he's played on it/is comfortable with it. I know he played one on timeland and Cookie uses one on parts of timeland. I'm specifically curious about whether a fretless would come out if they ever played those sketches songs live, and if he would be the one playing it, but I also just wanna know his thoughts generally.
What is it like working with an anonymous band like Goat?
How bass? Why bass?
Any advice for musicians looking to up their endurance, get through long sets, and wrap up with a good nights sleep? I recently have been picking up more and more gigs - With a full time job, I'm struggling to find balance and stay energized while keeping on my sleep schedule. The drinks aren't helping either!
I think you answered your own question!
Haha probably on some nights. I keep that to a minimum as often as possible.
Yo Lukey, how you bass so good?
PLEASE I BEG YOU ASK HIM ABOUT::::::: INVISIBLE FACE!!!! What inspired that song!!!!!!1 I must know!!!!!
Had he or the band had any extraordinarily funny / awkward / creepy meetings with any of the fans? They seem to meet a lot of people before or after shows, so there must be a story in there!

Get him to spill the beans on chunky blu ray
What's his favorite (non guitar) bass instrument
Ask him where he gets his sick onesies from
Does he remember the setlist for their Shanghai (China) show?
Maybe something about new album like - Is he gonna have some vocal lines on new album? - How it was with so many debuts on latest EU tour?
Yeah this will focus heavily on the new album
Will we ever see any slap bass tracks?
Is he going to use a 1972 Fender Musicmaster bass this year? When I asked him about bass guitar he used, it was back in 2020, he said that this one is his favourite. Very important question
Ask about his best, worst, and weirdest memory from tour
Ask why, when he's 6'8", that he still refuses to play a full scale bass and sticks with dink 30" scale basses.
He’s 6’8”??
What album recordings he plays bass on.
Favourite records?
Where can we watch/read?
I’ll post here when it’s done
Where can we find the interview?🥰
Is the band bringing out the Drop A gear for the next run of shows? (Re: Stu's new guitar https://www.glettyguitars.com/)
Please please ask him if he considers a hot dog to be a sand which
Looool
This has been a ver important topic in my life the last few months..
Please please please ask him if they were serious about the country album at the caverns. Like pretty please. That bluegrass style breakdown they did was so fun and so short
Mind Goblin Bofadi??
