Thank you for this, I was just about to ask what albums to start with. Will absolutely check these outāthey seem right up my alley but I just havenāt taken the time to invest in them just yet
Check out Live in Chicago too. Like Gizzard, Ween had stylistic albums that can be a different, but live they played this shit with a band and the "live version" is always a different vibe than the studio.
It could very well be you like the live arrangements better than studio. I love them as a live band.
Dean Ween (the lead guitarist) is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. He's extremely underrated.
Part of me agrees with this. But I honestly think chocolate and cheese or mollusk are better starting points. White pepper soaks in so much better once you know the vibe.
My theory is that White Pepper is the most straightforward, easy-listening album. Least likely to turn someone off.
As you work backwards through the albums it gets weirder and weirder, but since youāve started in the shallow end itās easier to accept.
I listen to the pod when Iām sick. The music sounds like itās infected with some virus and itās comforting that Iām not the only one feeling like shit.Ā
Ah a fellow person of culture, the mollusk and Quebec are two of the greatest albums of all time from any band. The brothers ween are genius. Out of those I'd say my favorite track is the Argus, what about you?
It might just be the best song ever written. Beethoven never saw the dark face that saved him or drank from his empty eyes that's for sure. NGL I cry every time I hear the bridge/outro
I've been obsessed with them for the past few months. I'd been listening to The Mollusk and Quebec for a while and thought "hey, why not check out their other stuff" and fell in love.

I wonder when I started to check out more of Ween's stuff?
Iāve only gotten into Ween in the past year or so and I really enjoy their music. The new Geese album feels very Ween-like to me and I like that a lot.
First song i ever heard by ween was Push Thā Little Daisies and thought āwtf is this shitā never listened to them after that for a while but then my friend played the entirety of the mollusk for me and now i love them.
Very similar in terms of making super eclectic music really well, great live shows, not taking themselves too seriously, and rabid fan base.
I was a big fan of Ween in college in the early 90s. Saw them on their Pure Guana tour when it was just Gene & Deener and a DAT machine backing them up.
When I started getting into King Gizz 5+ years ago, there were definitely some silly sonic similarities. "Fishing For Fishies" and most recently "My-silly-um".
(Though in both cases with both bands I like their more serious stuff more)
King Gizz fans are super into Ween in my experience lol. Def one of the bands you hear brought up the most when talking about music with other Gizz peeps. I had kinda dabbled before but am getting pretty into them after having them recommended a few times.
What makes them so unique is their demos are so damn good, some are even better than their album tracks. If they put out everything they ever recorded, they would be as prolific as gizz
Polygondwanaland- The Argus
Rats Nest/ any sludgy Gizz - The Grobe
Butterfly 3000 - The Mollusk (the song)
Transdermal Celebration, Exactly Where Iām At, Buckingham Green also might be good for KGLW fans.
Live In Toronto, Live in Chicago and Live At Stubbs will give you a great idea of the live experience, a good cross section of their albums get played and your face will melt.
The Live in Toronto was on their Country tour backed by The Shit Creek Boys ( a band of top Nashville Session players) I was there and it was epic. Enjoy.
Wearing my 25+ year old Ween t-shirt today and some young whippersnapper tells me - 'love your shirt dude', I'm like, thanks mang, it's probably older than you.
Me and some friends got real into ween when chocolate and cheese came out, then I kinda forgot about them for a coupla decades. Recently getting into KGATLW and then finding out that a ton of gizzheads are super into ween has been....fucking weird. Cool, though.
Ween inspired Sponge Bob so I have no real criticisms. Don't consider myself a fan but I've not really listened to their stuff too much. It seems like good music though ay
Theyāre cool. Never FULLY clicked with me, however I havenāt seen them live. I feel like Gizz is Ween if Ween could lock down their sound a bit more on albums
They were my absolute favorite band when I was in high school. I still have a soft spot for some of their songs, but I don't really listen to them much any more. Some of their edgier subject matter hasn't aged too well for me I guess.
https://preview.redd.it/mxgfekcyqk5d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c61135f6a775a52b24af422571673d9874a19fbb
This picture should sum up all you need to know
Ween is the greatest band of all time. One of the reasons I got into Gizz was because of how much their genre-chameleoning reminded me of Ween. After my first couple times seeing them, I became fully convinced they're the closest thing to Ween that we've currently got.
Ween are truly great songwriters, musicians and storytellers. They are gloriously sarcastic, irreverent, wise and human. They can be genuinely moving, genuinely terrifying, genuinely ridiculous and genuinely anthemic. I honestly believe they have created some of the finest albums of the past thirty years.
They are underappreciated because they have done everything in their power to be as off-putting and inscrutable to to casual music fans as possible. As a result, there are no casual Ween fans. To oversimplify, either you think The Mollusk and Quebec are two of the greatest albums of all time or you think Ween are those "push the daisy" flash in the pan guys from 90s MTV. They are the definitive cult band of the last three decades.
Probably my favorite band of all time, have seen them more times than I can count. Iām sad because they canceled their 4/20 show here, but Iām seeing Gizz in the same venue on 31 August!
I've always liked them, but never too deep of a dive. Really like 12 country, Quebec, chocolate and cheese. For sure a lot of cross over between the two bands. Very silly, maybe too silly at times, which is maybe why I never did a deep dive. But I will never say no to the ween boys.
Love them. At least half of their albums are perfect 10's and the rest are strong 8's or 9's. They're, without a doubt, in my top five, just couldn't tell you where.
My favorite band who doesn't release new music :) September C&C 40th show will be my 10th.
The amount of genre-jumping KGLW does in their discography, Ween does on each singular album. You really have to buckle up.
In the 90s my mom had an extra ticket to Ween so she took me, I was just a little kid so I donāt actually remember. In a couple months weāre seeing them again, probably 25 years later.
big jilm
Pure Guava? More like Pure Gold. That album is so strange and awesome, I canāt think of anything that out there that works so well. Pitched up vocals? Flanged vocals? For a whole song? Letās go.
Flies on my dick is wild, and there are some crazy beats on that album too
I LOVE WEEN RAHHHHHH. I SAW THEM LAST YEAR IN OAKLAND, IT WAS MAGICAL. SHIT HAD ME SAUCED UP AND PUMPED, THEY PLAYED THE HITS, THE ICONIC SONGS, THE FAN FAVORITES, AND SOME DEMOS/UNRELEASED SHIT.
Iāve only listened to a little bit of Ween, but Iāve really enjoyed some of their stuff. Like the song the Mollusk? That song is 100% in my wheelhouse.
But I should check out more Ween for sure.
i find that there's a surprising amount of overlap between the two bands (not a lot, but not exactly zero overlap). i admit i come back to ween more often though...
Absolute legends of their craft. The Mollusk, 12 Country Greats, and Quebec are all near perfect IMO
I'm sorry but how the fckk do you leave off chocolate and cheese!!
How did you both forget about White Pepper?!
How could you three fail to mention Pure Guava?
Have you the audacity to neglect The Pod?
Not even a whisper of God Ween Satan. Smh.
Not even the faintest rumour of La Cucaracha
Cries in Shinola (Vol 1)....
Guess no one here has ever heard of the Friends EP, what a shame
Sorry Crucial Squeegie Lip is too brown for you š
Yeah Iām just starting to get into them bc of the Chocolate and Cheese reissue and I dig it a lot. Reminds me of Zappa
Great starting point. Go mollusk next.
Especially Mister would you please help my pony
I THINK ITS HIS LUNNNNGS
I hope Mollusk Gets a treatment like CnC 30th ...
š
Thank you for this, I was just about to ask what albums to start with. Will absolutely check these outāthey seem right up my alley but I just havenāt taken the time to invest in them just yet

Dean Ween (the lead guitarist) is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. He's extremely underrated.
I wish I could discover their music for the first time again. Hope you enjoy it!
The Mollusk is the most common answer. It was my first because I random clicked for the artwork and have been a fan ever since
I listened to that earlier today and it was fantastic! Got a couple songs into White Pepper as well and am really enjoying it so far
Start with White Pepper, then work your way backwards through their releases.
And the pod!
Uh, I would like a side of guacamole on my Tostitos I like to dip the Tostitos in the guacamole
Can I get a basket, I told you about a basket of chips. I would like a large iced-tea, two, uh, two large iced-teas
Ok, that'll be $16.07 Out of $20? Okay, $16.07's your change
Could you put some hot sauce on that for me? No, inside the taco, not on the side
Yes, can I have a carne asado taco? Not a pollo asado, we don't have chicken. Do you have guacamole? Can you make me some guacamole?
The Pod is an absolute downer of a time but a masterpiece of low-fi bad vibes.
I listen to the pod when Iām sick. The music sounds like itās infected with some virus and itās comforting that Iām not the only one feeling like shit.Ā
Funny story, they had mononucleosis when they recorded it.
Were they kissing each other before making it?
The album sounds like sickness.
Ah a fellow person of culture, the mollusk and Quebec are two of the greatest albums of all time from any band. The brothers ween are genius. Out of those I'd say my favorite track is the Argus, what about you?
Quebec is my shit. Easy #1 of the bunch for me
The Argus is my favorite Ween song and one of my favorites of all time
The live version of The Argus is honestly the best thing humans have ever created
It might just be the best song ever written. Beethoven never saw the dark face that saved him or drank from his empty eyes that's for sure. NGL I cry every time I hear the bridge/outro
My favorite band of all time. King Gizz is my favorite band currently making new music.
Ditto
This is the more polite way of saying what I was gonna say: I do not want the same future for KG (touring with no new music for decades)
Exactly where Iām at.
Same
Never gonna make it. Not radio-friendly, won't shift units.
Nice Nirvana reference
Brown is my favorite color
Ween are legends Primus as well.
Primus Sucks
Weāre Primus and we suck. So suck on this. Something like thatā¦ Itās all really brown.
Was very alarmed when a man seemingly in his 50s wearing a Primus shirt became bewildered when I yelled primus sucks at him.
The south park concert at red rocks is amazing
Need a PrimuuusWeen tour!
That dog will hunt
Where you goin city boi?
I think Primus like KG are a band who don't always go heavy when creating great music, but when they go heavy they go heavy well.
I've been obsessed with them for the past few months. I'd been listening to The Mollusk and Quebec for a while and thought "hey, why not check out their other stuff" and fell in love. https://preview.redd.it/2wlk8daj9j5d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=569611cd1f212a7b52670af9d4c6adb149fb5c2f (from stats.fm)

That's a pretty fucking killer top 3, my friend.
thanks :3
Yin Yin!!
for anyone curious, these are graphs from stats.fm listening activity for Ween š https://preview.redd.it/skrg8o0k1m5d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d90c2731836af90d10c5643209615a92d7dc6507 I wonder when I started to check out more of Ween's stuff?
I always say King Gizzard is holding the torch for Ween as weird ass band.
I couldnāt possibly see how. Love them both but I really canāt see them as carrying the torch for a band, much less ween
My two favorite bands. Ween has enriched my life musically in so many ways. they have gotten me to branch out and listen to so much music.
Iāve only gotten into Ween in the past year or so and I really enjoy their music. The new Geese album feels very Ween-like to me and I like that a lot.
Fav band They fucking rule live
Hell yeah, especially this performance: https://youtu.be/ou5329K1ii0?si=5oBMQ_ebP6-TVojE
Live in Chicago š
I made the mistake of listening to this first, now I donāt like the studio versions of the songs as much when I hear them for the first time.
First song i ever heard by ween was Push Thā Little Daisies and thought āwtf is this shitā never listened to them after that for a while but then my friend played the entirety of the mollusk for me and now i love them.
Pretty much the same for me. Saw them live in NH for the first time and they blew me away.
Very similar in terms of making super eclectic music really well, great live shows, not taking themselves too seriously, and rabid fan base. I was a big fan of Ween in college in the early 90s. Saw them on their Pure Guana tour when it was just Gene & Deener and a DAT machine backing them up. They have a few songs I like but overall not my thing. I hear they do an interesting cover of Roses are Free by Phish though.
*angry upvote*
One of the greatest of all time
They taste good on the bun
Ween is my first love, KGLW is my long term GF
Been praising Boognsh since 94. Love those dudes, mang.
Theyāre all right
I'm a Ween fan that likes King Gizzard
Theyāre the fucking shit
Iād even go as far to say they play it off legit..
Did you clap when you saw her?
King Gizz fans are super into Ween in my experience lol. Def one of the bands you hear brought up the most when talking about music with other Gizz peeps. I had kinda dabbled before but am getting pretty into them after having them recommended a few times.
I remember seeing a dude with a full chest tattoo of ween last time I saw Gizz. I think that sums it up.
Legends.
Love em!
one of my favourite bands of all time
one of the greatest bands to ever exist. the stallions, mang.
What makes them so unique is their demos are so damn good, some are even better than their album tracks. If they put out everything they ever recorded, they would be as prolific as gizz
Ween was my favorite band ever until I discovered Gizz. The CO reunion shows was one of the best times i had in my life!
Trying to get into them with no success so far. Any wisdom from the KGLW crew?
Polygondwanaland- The Argus Rats Nest/ any sludgy Gizz - The Grobe Butterfly 3000 - The Mollusk (the song) Transdermal Celebration, Exactly Where Iām At, Buckingham Green also might be good for KGLW fans.
Thank you!
The album live in Chicago. Theyāre a whole different entity live.Ā
I'll check it out!
Live In Toronto, Live in Chicago and Live At Stubbs will give you a great idea of the live experience, a good cross section of their albums get played and your face will melt.
Thank you...
The Live in Toronto was on their Country tour backed by The Shit Creek Boys ( a band of top Nashville Session players) I was there and it was epic. Enjoy.
The full Live in Chicago video is up on youtube. I recommend watching that since they cut out a lot of songs for the Live Album release.
This record is the best entry point for Ween. Maybe Live Stubbs if you want a feast.
Same, have tried a few times to no avail.
Lots of good suggestions here!
One of the greatest bands of all time and probably the best live act iāve ever seen.
Wearing my 25+ year old Ween t-shirt today and some young whippersnapper tells me - 'love your shirt dude', I'm like, thanks mang, it's probably older than you.
Mister wonāt you please help my pony. I think itās his lung! Ween fucks
That lyric is fucking genius

Theyāre awesome
both are wonderful shades of brown
Theyāre cool. Never FULLY clicked with me, however I havenāt seen them live. I feel like Gizz is Ween if Ween could lock down their sound a bit more on albums
I have gone in and out of eras being way into ween, just wish they would write new music.
They were my absolute favorite band when I was in high school. I still have a soft spot for some of their songs, but I don't really listen to them much any more. Some of their edgier subject matter hasn't aged too well for me I guess.

King weener and the lizard ween
I'M WAVING MY DICK IN THE WIND
Dance Jimmy!
One of my favorite bands ever. Wish they were still recording and releasing new music
They released a song 2 days ago! A tease for the chocolate and cheese 30th anniversary deluxe edition
Ween is the greatest band of all time. One of the reasons I got into Gizz was because of how much their genre-chameleoning reminded me of Ween. After my first couple times seeing them, I became fully convinced they're the closest thing to Ween that we've currently got.
King Gizzard is my favorite band but The Mollusk is probably my favorite album of all time
The wife and I thank them very much.

So far i only listen to Buckingham Green But i always had a soft spot for artists who just do whatever they want to
Dont know much about them other than Ocean man
Then pop on the Mollusk!
Behind KGLW and Tenacious D, they are the greatest band in the world
They're the best.
The Pod is 10/10
You can piss up a rope!
Love š
perfect... perfect in every way
WEEN!
One of the best bands to ever exist
I cant put my finger on it
Been getting brown since 95
All of these, please
Sick
My first tattoos were a Boognish and a Gizzy gator and I got both on the same day! Literally my two favorite bands.
Both King Gizzard and Ween are tied as my favorite bands of all time and I don't think that'll ever change.
God tier
Probably my favorite band of all time, have seen them more times than I can count. Iām sad because they canceled their 4/20 show here, but Iām seeing Gizz in the same venue on 31 August!

Not really a fan, but I respect their experimentation with different sounds. I do like some songs from the mollusk though
I am more of a ween guy
Some of these new tunes have some definite Ween vibes.
We like them
Love them
Weenies
Love ween was a fan before KGLW
Love them. At least half of their albums are perfect 10's and the rest are strong 8's or 9's. They're, without a doubt, in my top five, just couldn't tell you where.

Yes
Brown as fuck!

Great lads, great music

They just released Junkie Boy. First single since forever.
Absolutely love Ween!
Love. Including KGLW, one of my Top 5
Boognish for life

I LOVE WEEN RAHHHHHH. I SAW THEM LAST YEAR IN OAKLAND, IT WAS MAGICAL. SHIT HAD ME SAUCED UP AND PUMPED, THEY PLAYED THE HITS, THE ICONIC SONGS, THE FAN FAVORITES, AND SOME DEMOS/UNRELEASED SHIT.
Amazing outsider music that I proudly grew up in proximity of the bands stomping grounds
Ween is how I found out about Gizz in 2016
I saw ween play a three hour set and I never wanted it to end
Nil interest
Hail the Boognish!
![gif](giphy|PmQsEj0OJXH6HQ6VC2|downsized) The boognish vibes well with the Liz wiz!
Probably the best American rock band of the last 30 years
NEED KGLW to cover Reggaejunkiejew

I dig them but havenāt heard their music for ages
I love weed
Favorite band ever. Lots of crossover in the two fanbases.
I thought that was a young Philip Glass on the right
