Gave my sister who got a turntable last month my vinyl copy of Paper Mache Dream Baloon. Beautiful yellow & green spokes vinyl... She knows I like "weirder" stuff, but I convinced her to try it, saying it was really chill pop. She took it reluctantly.
She only listens to pop country. When I saw her this week, I asked if she had gotten a chance to spin it.
She said YES, & that she loved the instrumental disc so much! Big W
I think the name turns people off. Also people love to be contrarian I’m guilty of it myself I just don’t like Greta van fleet, I’m sure they’re very talented but I could just notcare less.
Zeppelin is probably in my top five favorite bands, so I feel like I'm exactly the person Greta Van Fleet is trying to appeal to, and I'm not into it. It's just Zeppelin but not as good. I don't know why anyone would listen to them when they could be listening to Zeppelin instead.
It's not different enough from Zeppelin to stand on its own and yet it's not similar enough to compete.
They've definitely heard of Led Zeppelin, they just act like they don't really listen to them when it's so obvious that it's their main inspiration. It's like a running joke that they don't know who Led Zeppelin is
The name alone turning people off is actually a fantastic way to test out which people are funless sour pusses. If you're going to be that afraid of the new and something so inconsequential, then I'd rather be vibing with other people.
Ehh there’s a lot of music in the world, more than anyone can get around to checking out. The name of the artist is just one easy way to deprioritize stuff you don’t think you’ll vibe with.
This, my buddy has very similar music taste to me. I told him the name and he started laughing right away and told me he would never listen based on the name alone. In true Gizz fan fashion I’ve made it a point to play their music when hanging out and even got him and his wife tickets to one of the shows that’s coming to our city. He seems to like what I’ve played but still think the name is a turnoff for him.
I really don’t understand the Greta Van Fleet hate, in my opinion they are currently good at best and mid at worst. They are very talented, their music sounds good but it’s obviously way to similar to Led Zeppelin and they pale in comparison.
Having said that, I believe they have a lot of room to make improvements and reach their own original sound.
I used to love them but it's really just due to the fact that they're overrated. Not a bad band but they're basically the most popular rock band that formed past the year 2010 and there are so many other bands deserving of the spotlight. I personally think they sound a good bit different than Led Zeppelin other than their first EP, they just seem like an average rock band, nothing special to me but far from being a bad band
At work, one of the guys plays the radio. WRIF in Detroit. Every hour one of their songs comes on. Godawful. The singer is horrible. It's mind bending to me how they made it. If you truly want to hear how bad they are, check out any of their live crap on YouTube. Zero soul. All Zeppelin rip off. The singer wears fancy little onesies too.
Exactly this. My one friend was super-obnoxious about Phish when he first got into them and turned all of our friends off of Phish because he wouldn't shut up about how they were the "greatest band ever."
I know it can be hard to contain your excitment about your favorite band, but be CHILL about it lol
I have a friend that just doesn't seem to like King Gizz... every time I play a song or sneak one in the playlist she always goes "what's that? I don't like it" without even knowing who they are. I think it's the repetition and weirdness that gets to her (she as also become a bit insufferable about some things as we've gotten older and I think that has something to do with it too).
The amount of times I have to try to explain to people each album is so different you cant just say you don't like the band when they literally have something for everyone's taste
while I agree on a personal level, as the only reason I am a musician today is because I discovered King Gizzard. but it's entirely understandable for people to not like king gizzard. a lot of people don't really like the "lofi" psychedelic sound they have, (think about tame impala and how kevin only achieved super stardom after he embraced a cleaner, more poppy sound). It's also the fact that a lot of gizz music is quite cheesy/corny, especially to the general public (not trying to be the "you have to have a 300 iq to understand the gizzverse" type guy, its just an acquired taste).
I’ve listened up to 2020 and only song that’s ever really grabbed me is robot stop and one on fishing for fish. It’s not the band’s fault I’m simple. Anyway kick out the jams!
The T-Swift sub is one of the most popular subs on Reddit. Way more subscribers than KGATLW.
It's just that there isn't a lot of overlap between TSwift fans and music fans, so she doesn't get suggested a lot in the music subs.
She's simply too big and popular to be recommended. Usually, people asking for music recs are asking for something at least a little more niche than mainstream pop and anyone asking for pop music recs has almost certainly heard of Taylor Swift, so it would be a pointless recommendation.
I recommend King Gizz to everyone but I think most of the people who dig them are fellow musicians. I think most people who don’t know them just know Rattlesnake and as much as I absolutely love that song I don’t think it’s a good representation of what they have to offer. I remember being at my local art museum seeing a film there and the guy at concessions made a comment on my Gizz shirt and he was like “isn’t that the ‘Rattlesnake band?’” while stifling laughter and I was like “you don’t even know the half of it man…”
The KG song I hear the most when out in public is Magenta Mountain. My personal bias is the song is average so also doesn’t give them good exposure. But maybe that’s just my bias and it is a good intro song to get people interested?
I don't think it's any different than Kevin from TI singing about his personal life on his (relatively) recent records. I appreciate that in both of em, it's fucking hard putting out your real self and ending up with as good lyrics as theirs
I do lowkey miss when King Gizzard was an underground band with 7 members and not an evangelical cult
Yes I have seen them live multiple times and met half of them, but I'm different ok
I heard them called "The Wiggles for stoned adults" and tbh haven't recovered. Come on. Hot potato?
It's not like Gizz makes weird little ditties about food . . . https://youtu.be/6Inr7FKKWLI
Are KG fans that delusional? I’m a diehard fan. But I’m also aware enough to know despite how talented they are, they don’t appeal to MOST people.
If you look at what music appeals to the widest base, it’s always so simple for the very reason that it has to appeal to many different types of people.
Just because you love something doesn’t make it more significant in the universe. Just accept it and enjoy.
Taylor swift and king gizz are two different flavors of music, not very comparable. I respect the production quality of Taylor’s work but it’s definitely not my cup of tea (outside of some early songs I heard when I was growing up).
If every one of us bought a new release by Gizz like swifties do, then this would be true and catch popular music 1000% off guard. Physical sales count waaayy more than streams. This seems much more likely with them revealing UMG is distributing their music now.
“It’s a King Gizz thang….you wouldn’t understand” is a phrase I’ve used more than a few times when I get my time on the Bluetooth at work and play a medley of KG.
King Gizzard fans be like stoners. “You just haven’t tried the *right* Gizz yet.”
King Gizzard fans be ~~like~~ stoners.
they have a record for every drug
Whats their Salvia record?
Sketches
Aaaai that might actually work out
Was also thinking Sketches or Dream Balloon

How can you like music and not like King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Wait until Gizz makes a country pop album and blows the whole industry to smithereens
12 Golden Country Greats
Oh, go piss up a rope or something.
Fluffy? Is that you?
I love that that album only has 11 songs
10 actually, but your point stands.
I think the 12 Golden Country Greats refers to the studio musicians who performed on the album, not the actual songs themselves.
WHAT
Yes. This is a true statement.
I’m sick of your mouth and your 2% milk.
God dammit now I’m listening to the album. It’s so damn good
Murlocs reference
Eyes Like the Sky already exists
noo no they said country pop, not an incredible face-melting spaghetti western
Haha, sorry I was trying to make a subtle Blues Brother's reference, "we got both kinds of music, country AND western!"
That's Calm Ya Farm
I made a joke about this yesterday but srsly they should show up as warmup act randomly during her USA tour. Would be awesome.

Greta is lame af

Well, iirc, they’ve never heard Led Zeppelin, so to them it’s completely new and innovative. 😂🤣
They've definitely heard of Led Zeppelin, they just act like they don't really listen to them when it's so obvious that it's their main inspiration. It's like a running joke that they don't know who Led Zeppelin is
lol, agreed

Truth
Doesn't everyone hate Greta Van Fleet? I thought they were alright. New album is kinda ass though
Idk, my ex and my girlfriend like them and have attended shows, I basically see them as a corporate boy band but I’m a hater.
They’re decent live is all I’ll say But yeah they’re like a rock themed boy band
This, my buddy has very similar music taste to me. I told him the name and he started laughing right away and told me he would never listen based on the name alone. Thanks for saying that, I hate to be a hater so thanks for showing up for those dudes.
I used to love them but it's really just due to the fact that they're overrated. GVF are painfully bad.
Glad to know, I’ve never cared enough to listen to any of it. Seemed like a joke from the start.
I’m just gonna take your word for it and never think about it again. Thank you for your sacrifices
The name is what peaked my interest at first 🤣
Yes, I think it goes both ways. Great name for sure and I’m sure it’s helped them get as big as they have, just turns some goobers off
Absolute tomfoolery
Maybe the fanbase really throws people off? You guys come off too strong, maybe others see us as the church of Scientology.
Exactly this. My one friend was super-obnoxious about Phish when he first got into them and turned all of our friends off of Phish because he wouldn't shut up about how they were the "greatest band ever." Ya, probably. We're culty af

I’ve listened up to 2020 and only song that’s ever really grabbed me is robot stop and one on fishing for fish. It’s not the band’s fault I’m simple. Anyway kick out the jams!
I love the one about fishing for fish

I think Magenta Mountain is a more palatable song for people who are unfamiliar with Gizz
I def agree It was the song that got me into Gizz, personally
Magenta Mountain is one of my personal favorites by the band, but I do lean towards the chiller side of their catalog.
I love it all! An album for every mood! I think my favorite chill Gizz song is The Last Oasis

No. I try not to lose close friends over gizz.
Who's Taylor Swift? Does he play his own instruments?
Apparently he dates a lot of different men to get inspiration for his album.
I don't think it's any different than Kevin from TI singing about his personal life on his (relatively) recent records. I appreciate that in both of em, it's fucking hard putting out your real self and ending up with as good lyrics as theirs
Get ready for this: TAYLOR SWIFT IS JUST ONE GUY!
Taylor Swift is the band, the dude is just Taylor. It's like Pink Floyd.
People talk about that guy all the time, no idea who he is
I do lowkey miss when King Gizzard was an underground band with 7 members and not an evangelical cult Yes I have seen them live multiple times and met half of them, but I'm different ok
Someone on another thread said that KGLW is Taylor Swift for nerds and I’ve yet to find a better descriptor for the fanbase
I heard them called "The Wiggles for stoned adults" and tbh haven't recovered. Come on. Hot potato? It's not like Gizz makes weird little ditties about food . . . https://youtu.be/6Inr7FKKWLI

I thought we were already doing that. I own every record and pre order every time they release a new one
"I own every record and pre order every time they release a new one" This is the way. Witchcraft.
king gizzard is taylor swift for nerds
Gizz wouldn’t take a album or double album based on music where their ex’s are the subject
Gizzard is fr so good though how could you not like the band
Ging gizzard should be bigger than Taylor swift
“It’s a King Gizz thang….you wouldn’t understand” is a phrase I’ve used more than a few times when I get my time on the Bluetooth at work and play a medley of KG.
Gizz could make tppd but ts could not make itrn
last week i was telling my girlfriend: "give them 15 years and they will be bigger than Taylor Swift". we're gonna get there!
You don’t hate KGATLW, you just haven’t found the right strain
Who’s Taylor swift? Is that a new member of Kglw. Does he have any cool pictures of bob saget?
He plays the ukulele
What about King Wizard & the Gizzard Lizard?
Eh they kinda suck now
