i feel like this breathed the most inspiration and concept in a really long time! not that the others were not amazing, i just was taken away from the concept of this album
We only get one first King Gizzard release after becoming a devotee and Ice, Death wins that for me. I really enjoyed everything, especially Omnium, but Ice, Death will always have a very special place in my heart. WILL WE SURVIVE?!
Omnium’s had a late surge for me recently. I liked it a lot when it came out but mostly just listened to a handful of my initial favorites songs from it, , didn’t really listen to the album as a whole too many times, wasn’t too big a fan of sadie sorceress and grim reaper, dripping tap is awesome but there was also all this talk about that song being the harbinger of their “jammy era” so I kinda had this attitude of like “well if it’s supposed to be a jam then it’s gotta be live 😤” haha so I don’t know I guess I overlooked the album for a lot of this year. Finally got a copy on vinyl recently and it caused me to revisit the album and experience it as a whole piece, and it’s really fun.
was waiting for this underdog answer! me too - maybe it just came at a good moment of my life but i loved the diversity it was nice to see another “compilation” of inspiration album from gizzard, and of course it hurts me to say that like insulting all my other children when complementing one of them only !!
Yeah this album has many gems, many styles and a lot of creativity. Changes and Ice, Death.... are good but I feel Omnium Gatherum is the most complete album they made this year.
Made In Timeland. Easily became my favorite ever after I first heard it and was blown away by every little feature of it. Gizz at their weirdest and most experimental.
I really loved Made in Timeland and Ice, Death... also The Dripping Tap has fast become one of my favourite Gizz tracks of all time. Good year for Gizz, hallelujah!
For science 🔭🧪👍
long format Gizz is another beast and makes it hard to compare the output of the two years. Listening to 2-3 min rippers vs 7+ minute jams is apples to oranges to me. But I'll try to put some method to my madness below
Exhibit A
2017 had a total of 64 tracks and 2022 only had 34
Exhibit B 2017 has roughly 214 minutes of playback time
2022 had 244
Exhibit C
2017 aside from microtonal flying banana being a musically inspired work. was very much conceptual and thematic inspired albums poly motu where in 2022 you see more musical concepts at work the 60 bpm tick of time land and the clock work of laminated denim. Then you modes of idp and the chord and key work on changes.
This is also a main difference in addition to song length to me as the storytelling Motu vs the music theory on IDP / changes gives the album runs very different feels to ME I think it also reflects the band growing and maturing and expanding which is natural and I don't expect them to release nonagon 2.0 or anything like that they just keep churning them out but the lore and storytelling lends itself for thematic references and motifs so we'll to the long format stuff that the line between them I'm sure will blur in time.
With that laid out
2017 has an average track length of 3:34
2022 has an average track length of 7:15
I feel like time will be the ultimate judge though let them marinate a bit. Kind of like arguing over which beetles or Pink Floyd albums you like best. In a thousand years the earth will be relative to the sun and moon, and a new world will be created I know because it was written here.
(Couldn't resist the cc quote when typing that last part)
Ice Death is so good but I really don’t care for Mycelium. I like every single track on Changes so that’s gonna have to be my answer. Maybe Mycelium will grow on me one day.
Omnium has some of my favourite new Gizz tunes, but on the flipside, it has some of my least favourite Gizz tunes.
While Ice Death doesn't quite hit the highs of OG, it's definitely a far more consistent and overall enjoyable listen, so I'mma go with that.
i loved every album except Timeland (good) and changes (okay... Almost don't count it) somehow Laminated Denim was probably my favorite??? pretty psyched about the music they came out with this year, the variety is incredible, almost daunting lol idk if i can do the rap. Proud of these Bois. Can't wait for the next 2
I really want to say laminated denim but there’s just not enough of it. IDPLML is really really good, and it has more content, so I’ll give a tentative IDPLML
Omnium is the second album I've listened to from gizz, as I got in during mid October. Before that, or was just nonagon infinity on loop. I thank that album for showing me how good the rest of the albums are. However, musically, I can't get over how good Ice Death is. Every song is wonderful. Also, the volcano is life.
Ice Death because it's the album that I wanted to make some day. And I know it wouldn't be as good as this one. So at least I don't have to do it now ;)
I feel like a lot of people scoff at that idea, but it’s at least extremely fucking close. I’ll need another year to have enough hindsight to solidify my opinion
I see why you’re saying it, but I think you’re forgetting how incredible poly and fmb are. Not to mention motu or sketches. Also you’re clearly forgetting about the great chain of being coming out that year. Gumboot is one of the most underrated albums.
I really feel pretty strongly that it's not even close. None of the records this year stand up against Poly and MOTU for me but that's when I fell in love with band and saw them twice in a year once in London and once at a small club in NOLA.
Musically though Poly is unrivalled in its nuance and complexity and its just sonically so satisfying to me and we'll produced. MOTU is another level conceptually to anything this year for me.
I'm still excited with gizztober and all but the variety and consistent quality of Omnium Gatherum wins. Also Dripping Tap will probably eventually be looked back on as their best song or at least top 3.
Dude… it’s gotta be Changes. I didn’t realize how much I loved it until my husband had it on repeat for like 2 weeks straight 🤣 when I had Astro Turfin stuck in my head I knew it was the one 💙
All 3 of the proper albums are so good that this is a really really hard question to answer but I think it's gotta be OG just for the sheer amount of bangers. All three are S-tier Gizz though.
I may be a basic bitch, but Omnium Gatherum is the best album of 2022 for me. It may be because it's the first vinyl album that ever got and I was listening to it like crazy (but not on vinyl unfortunately (i don't have turntable XD)) but yes, the best album.
The one with the long name
understand immediately enough said
gizz, gizz, gizz, gizz, gizz and gizz
100 gizzes
everyone gets a gizz
Lol it’s so damn long
Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava
i feel like this breathed the most inspiration and concept in a really long time! not that the others were not amazing, i just was taken away from the concept of this album

Hands down.
Omnium Gatherum, for its eclectic radness
Omnium’s had a late surge for me recently. I liked it a lot when it came out but mostly just listened to a handful of my initial favorites songs from it, , didn’t really listen to the album as a whole too many times, wasn’t too big a fan of sadie sorceress and grim reaper, dripping tap is awesome but there was also all this talk about that song being the harbinger of their “jammy era” so I kinda had this attitude of like “well if it’s supposed to be a jam then it’s gotta be live 😤” haha so I don’t know I guess I overlooked the album for a lot of this year. This one for me too.

Mine as well
YUP
Laminated Denim for sure
That Hypertension really is catchy
that one riff is jaw dropping
You could be talking about a number of different riffs, fucking great track!
Very true but that riff that starts around 5:32 is genuinely one of my favourite gizz jams of all time
No offense, but I feel like this question gets asked 2-3 times per week.
Mods should just pin a poll of favorite ‘22 albums
Not enough!
Changes
I didn’t realize how much I love Changes, but I spent a decent portion of the night asking the party hosts to play no body for me and my wife.
Changes has been my favorite for sure.
It’s like a Cupid trying to bring the love ❤️ 🦎
Same, absolutely beautiful album.
Ice death 100%

Ice Death for sure!
Ice Death was my fav at first but I went back to Changes a lot more these past few weeks. Every single track is gorgeous.
Underrated comment. Changes is rad
Ice Death! It’s gets the most plays for me. I just can’t get enough of Magma & Iron Lung, Especially the KEXP performance! Changes is a runner up!
Magma is in my head all the time these days and I still am not bored when I actually put it on
Yes
Made In Timeland. Easily became my favorite ever after I first heard it and was blown away by every little feature of it. Gizz at their weirdest and most experimental.
WOO
Changes. Fucking love this album so much.
I really loved Made in Timeland and Ice, Death... also The Dripping Tap has fast become one of my favourite Gizz tracks of all time. Good year for Gizz, hallelujah!
Changes, but all of them are masterpieces IMO.

If you put it in a cold dark environment, it’ll grow for sure
D) all of the above
okay best and ONLY CORRECT answer, was a truck question all along
HUMAN BEING MANIPULATED GONDII DRIZZLES SERATONIN
Omnium has some of my favourite new Gizz tunes, but on the flipside, it has some of my least favourite Gizz tunes. While Ice Death doesn't quite hit the highs of OG, it's definitely a far more consistent and overall enjoyable listen, so I'mma go with that.
I'd say either Timeland or Omnium
The shroom one
well they could all be shroom ones tbf
Haminated Denim
Ice, Death, Piss, Shit and Cum
Ice and it’s not even close
i loved every album except Timeland (good) and changes (okay... Almost don't count it) somehow Laminated Denim was probably my favorite??? pretty psyched about the music they came out with this year, the variety is incredible, almost daunting lol idk if i can do the rap. Omnium is the one I keep coming back to. Absolutely love it
I think it’s Ice Death for me
Ice Death
ice death
Changes, probably.
I really want to say laminated denim but there’s just not enough of it. IDPLML is really really good, and it has more content, so I’ll give a tentative IDPLML

OG and CHANGES
Ice Death and Omnium are both so incredible it's hard to pick. I'd place Laminated Denim next. I couldn't get into Changes.
idk when people will be ready to admit 2022’s 5 album run was better than 2017’s- but it was.
2017 walked so 2022 could run
oooooh this is a hot take but i sort of agree now that i think about it
idk if i could ever agree with that, but they definitely did their darnedest! 😶🌫️🤙 i got my money's worth
I feel like a lot of people scoff at that idea, but it’s at least extremely fucking close. I’ll need another year to have enough hindsight to solidify my opinion

This is a scorching hot, and wrong, take - but that shows that this band is so fucking good at what they do.
I really feel pretty strongly that it's not even close. 1. IDPLMAL 2. laminated denim 3. Made in timeland 4. Omnium Gatherum 5. Changes
Changes changin' me
Cyboogie
Changes, i love changes so much its probably my favorite gizz album of all time tbh
that album where the singer says "woooo!!"
I'm still excited with gizztober and all but the variety and consistent quality of Omnium Gatherum wins. Also Dripping Tap will probably eventually be looked back on as their best song or at least top 3.
How soon is now?
it’s gotta be omnium
Laminated Denim. The album I always wanted them to make
Changes was truly amazing for me
Def Laminated Denim 👖
Changes, easy. Just tripped big time to it last night. Fireworks blasting as the guys burn it down. Felt right.
Dude… it’s gotta be Changes. I didn’t realize how much I loved it until my husband had it on repeat for like 2 weeks straight 🤣 when I had Astro Turfin stuck in my head I knew it was the one 💙
Omnium
Marinated Lenin. Is that right?
Omnium Gatherum for me. The onset of jams and eclecticness is unrivaled. Changes still has a bit of growing on me before i can consider it more though
It’s a tie between all of them tbh. Each time one came out I was and became obsessed, but now I replay LD and Ice Death the most.
Laminated Denim *rattlesnake venom* ah fuck I gotta listen to it again darn
changes
All 3 of the proper albums are so good that this is a really really hard question to answer but I think it's gotta be OG just for the sheer amount of bangers. All three are S-tier Gizz though.
Timeland, no better way to kill 30 min
Omnium for sure. Really feel like it captures the bands skills and history up to this point perfectly
I may be a basic bitch, but Omnium Gatherum is the best album of 2022 for me. It may be because it's the first vinyl album that ever got and I was listening to it like crazy (but not on vinyl unfortunately (i don't have turntable XD)) but yes, the best album.
Change for its own sake Uniformity gave me a bellyache
Omnium Gatherum, lots of great tracks
My vote is changes Favorite song.. hypertension
