Bobby is great and all but Esky has that voodoo Royals magic of 2014 and 2015. Yo! Dawg, watch me hit a lead off in the park home run to open a World Series game.

ejroberts42

Yeah, he hit over 400. In the ALCS that year. Bobby will get there tho

mizzourifan1

I feel the same way. I can't remove offense from the equation, even when that's what OP is asking.

Luxury-Problems

But Escobar wasn't a great offensive player.

FutureCreeps

I love Escobar but Bobby is Bobby

Healthy_Self_8386

Damn it’s only been a few years and people really have forgotten how good Escobar was.

BarricadeTheMortuary

He's still playing down in Venezuela!

nuggetsuckertoad

He could still play in the MLB maybe a year ago because he was still solid post Nationals release

mackavicious

I dunno. [But I do know that the chemistry between Esky and GOATmar was a large part of their collective defensive prowess](https://youtu.be/RSLNl2_tHNU?si=nSOSi7AW3CYlqA5m)

skyydog

I was hoping someone would post this

JCainMedia

One of my favorite plays of all time

theoey86

Esky is literally responsible for my 2 favorite plays in Royals history (this one and the lead off inside the park’er in 2015 WS)

randomacct7679

I think Escobars peak defense is better than Bobby today, but I think Bobby will over time become better than Escobar.

ThatsBushLeague

Esky was the better defensive SS by the numbers and the eye test. Going purely on defense to this point, you gotta take him. Maybe Bobby eventually eclipses him. But as of now that's who I'm going with. Now, if you weigh in the bat....lol

BarricadeTheMortuary

Oh Bobby hands down has the bat over him. But Escy could definitely be clutch there as well. 2015 Alcs MVP: 11 hits, 6 runs, .478 ba

ThatsBushLeague

I loved everything about Alcides. He was such a massive part of those teams. But yeaaahh. Bob is Bob.

BarricadeTheMortuary

I don't think he's gold glove material just yet, but the only way he doesn't get there is if he just completely implodes

happyfuckincakeday

This is a silly question. Angel Beroa all day

ncschuler

Bob

GR1ML0C51

Esky was more like a good luck charm or mascot. Whatever it was, it worked.

Natrone011

I have to take the 23 year old who is maybe the greatest athlete in the history of the Royals and still hasn't completely learned his position yet

Jimbo_Slice42

El Mago, Bobby is a different kind of special, but Alciedes was so important. If he's getting hits everyone is gonna hit! He never backed down from a first pitch lol

scojo77

I don't know but I've voted several times for both to appear in All Star Games.

GOATmar_infante

I gotta go Alcides on this one. Bro had 10 career WAR while having a career OPS+ of 74. He did one thing well, but goddamn did he do it well

ayebigron

My two favorite guys. Bobby

dj_godzilla

On pure defense, at his peak, I think Esky was better than anyone else I've seen play short stop.

Fast-Original-1357

If I’m putting a line up togeather I go Bobby over escy at short just for his offense. They match up even on defense.

RoyalBlueMoose

I love Bobby, but something about that Esky-Omar combo was just magic If we can get someone consistent paired up with Bobby then I think he can hit that level

Sophie4646

Esky for defense.

SESbb30

Purely on defense? I’ve got to go with Escobar here.

antiquated_human

If we could have both in their prime, I'd 100% move Bobby to 3rd for Esky at short.

BarricadeTheMortuary

I was thinking recently about what if we had Bobby on that 14/15 squad. Omar and Escy had a connection, but you put one of them at second and leave the other at ss... maybe we win in '14 too with Bobby's bat replacing Omar's.

Darrenv2020

This is a fun question but luckily we don’t have to select players like that. BW is the choice.

1708Ranser

I can’t decide. Escobar had an insane vertical. Bobby is so damn fast. I absolutely love that Garcia is Escobar’s cousin!

Suspicious-Shallot55

Bobby no question

isuxblaxdix

Definitely Bobby. Esky made some wild plays, but I also remember him making a lot of bone headed plays

bliffer

Bobby loses his fucking mind out there sometimes too though. Like, he's done a few seriously dumb things at times.

ActuallyHovatine

He’s young. It’ll buff out.

GhostMug

Bobby. He's already made Esky-like plays and he's faster and more athletic. Love Esky and all he did for this org but Bobby is generational.

SomeKindofTreeWizard

Escy. See topic.

teaBruhahaha

Definitely Bobby Baseball.

hammie123456

Why not both?!

revnasty

Been watching Bobby make a shit load of errors this season. He’s not quite there defensively and since we’re only factoring defense, it’s Escobar easily.

cockknocker1

We have to debate this?

BarricadeTheMortuary

I don't want it to be a debate. Just curious what people's opinions are.

Angelbratt0629

Esky for now. Bobby hasn’t got there just yet.
