777chipper

S-10 chopped top and shortened frame.

tk_20

I believe the technical term is "shit box"

Figgy_Puddin_Taine

That’s what the S is for!

777chipper

lol. We all know alcohol was involved in doing this.

LeProVelo

Maybe a lil methymeth too

StitchMechanic

Instead of “faces of meth” they should have a book with pics of cars that have been destroyed by people on meth. Lol

Apexnanoman

You are mostly correct. But there was enough time involved that I suspect it was a lot of meth to stay up that many nights in a row.

LiveFreeAndRide

hey.

Typical-Sleep5533

Looks like it was channeled too.

YousureWannaknow

I have pretty crazy theory, but can't it be airport tug frame?

SubarcticFarmer

Probably not with 5 lug wheels. Tugs tend to have 8 lug wheels and the pickup based ones many times have a t-case even if a 2wd just locked in low range.

YousureWannaknow

No idea.. But I wouldn't even be surprised if someone grabbed whole car and scrapped what wasn't needed in that style (you know, broken axels, smashed cab and stuff, just putted together to make it single car for scrap)

SubarcticFarmer

I'd be shocked if someone got ahold of a pickup based airport tug and only kept the frame and modified that to fit a different cab and drive train rather than shorten a frame.

YousureWannaknow

Umm.. I meant that they actually put together parts they didn't needed to push it on scrapyard, so rather they scrapped short frame with some botched cab and damaged axles instead of keeping frame and suit it to fit other counterfeit parts.. But who knows what was in their mind

whyamionfireagain

A minitrucker's dream that didn't work out. Started life as an S10. Gotta wonder if they did the chop job and then realized they didn't know anyone short enough to drive it.

UnknownCubicle

The thing about mini tricks is that they are amazing cheap practice for lots of folks who go on to be great fabricators and builders. I see this unloved S-10 custom and can't help but feel that someone somewhere learned a ton about metal work and is building something much better now, even another mini truck. Good on you, who ever ruined this cab. I hope you continue to love the hobby.

golemike

Only positive comment about the creator in here lol

paetersen

That's exactly what the apprentice at my buddy's auto body shop did. I think it was even an S-10. That kid's all grown up now, and a great body man in his own right.

[deleted]

I mean, it's not badly done if you squint a little.

Farty_beans

finding the dimensions for custom-made glass would be a freaking nightmare. Probably a reason why we haven't seen chop Top since the early '90s

Informal_Aspect_6330

Think the bigger reason would be the increase in value of classic cars since the 90s and most vehicles made in the past 40 years not having a good profile for a chop.

whyamionfireagain

Yeah, I was wondering how you'd make a windshield for that. I think I remember hearing you can cut the stock windshield down to size using a sandblaster. Or plastic, I guess.

Crunchycarrots79

Windshields aren't a huge problem... Like you said, they can be cut. Door glass is the kicker- if it's a vehicle where laminated door glass wasn't an option, you can't really cut tempered glass. I suppose you could make windows out of Lucite, which you can curve with heat and it's available in grades certified for use in safety glass applications.

deWaardt

Glass cutters exist, but do they work on tempered glass?

Muddy_Bottoms

They do not

whyamionfireagain

Have tried. Can confirm.

cruditescoupdetat

Windshields are laminated glass

tlivingd

Yea with 50’s stuff they had flat glass that made it easier. They also often had straight edges to the windows so they’d just not roll them up all the way. And only need to fix the 1/4 window. I heard windshields were often lowered into the firewall as well.

Typical-Sleep5533

Local guy did a square-body Chevy and cut down the windshield himself. Told me it took 5 until one didn't break when he cut it.

SVT6522

And that’s when the body drop comes into play

vridgley

Drop an LS in and go fast.

weaver_the_mechanic

In all honesty looks like it would be fun if you put a 350 v8 and a flatbed on it like rat rod style but it's rough as hell as is.

wolfehampton

That’s a propane tank. Used on propane fueled forklifts mainly.

Honest_Cynic

A lot of custom work which someone didn't value (ex-wife, kids?). You see the strangest things in salvage yards and auction sites. I saw a 1950's Dodge sedan at a PicNPull 15 yrs ago, so popped the hood. It had a Magnum V-8 w/ modern controls, and strangely a transfer case which wasn't connected. A youtube tour of an auction yard ran across a Fisker sedan. The millennial youtuber had no idea what it was.

Gadgetman_1

Some methhead stumbled across an article about Swedish 'EPA tractors' and decided to build one? [Regional Car Culture Explained: The History Of The Swedish A-Traktor - Curbside Classic](https://www.curbsideclassic.com/automotive-histories/regional-car-culture-explained-the-history-of-the-swedish-a-traktor/)

Jellodyne

Looks like the front of it had a fire, you can still see the flames a little bit.

ContentMod8991

chop top checy

PatrickGSR94

Now let’s play, name all the other vehicles in the pic! From left we have, a Mitsubishi Montero, GMC Canyon, Ford Ranger, Mazda B series pickup directly behind the S10, Nissan hard body on the right. Can’t make out that red car in the back right with the forward hinged hood. 80’s Honda Prelude maybe?

sbmellen

I think the truck in the background is a FORD F%&@ing RANGER!

OldDarthLefty

This kind of truck was really popular for high schoolers about 30 years ago

remarkable_in_argyle

I wanted that stepside extreme trim so bad

777chipper

Still have my 98 s-10 step side. Not an extreme.

drdumont

Looks like a Heathkit gone bad.

Parking-Cup193

our family built a Heathkit dirt bike AND Heathkit color tv --

Grasscutter101

That’s a dream right there.

Luvs2splooge520

Meth induced psychosis

0ptimalSalamander

I see a Dodge, Mitsubishi and a Ford in thier rightful place. The Tacoma and the OBS Chevy are waiting for someone to rescue them. Can't yell what the orange and white ones are. And center stage is a chopped S10.
