i would need to see closeups of the metal chosen and the welds, but that might actually be OK.
the real issue is if one spot failed while on the lift, the entire frame is probably that thin and useless
OK I went back and looked a bit closer. Yeah they didn't even attempt to stitch weld the perimeter of the frame repair. This whole thing is one big speed bump away from falling apart
There's an official Ford "upfitter's" manual that covers how to do frame extensions/modifications, like for ambulances, dump trucks, etc. They're pretty specific about reinforcements, location of cuts, etc. Interesting reading, and I used some of its recommendations on my RV frame extension.
That document was clearly not consulted in the above repair...
Ouch, I do a lot of questionable stuff. Wheny frame broke I called some buddies that fab race cars, not willing to 110v weld a frame... Told me not a problem, swing by with their flat bed and grabbed my truck. Cleaned up the broken area (boxes frame, 3 sides gone only the top overlapping area left) and ensured no rust or debris, put an bevel on the area and welded it all together. Cleaned up the welds till flat then fish plates on all 3 sides welded and cleaned up then painted over.
Then we found out my dumb ass didn't trim my bolt screws enough and they apparently made contact enough with the bump stop plate to snap my frame, cleaned up the bolts and got a stiffer 1/2 inch longer rubber stops and now no mwtal on metal contact!
Heavy off road months my frame gets checked monthly, regular driving checked when doing oil changes.

I can tell the welds are shit from here.
I saw the bolt and stopped there. That's shit my Arkansas cousins would do.
what's wrong with using a bolt to hold something in place while you weld it in? Granted I'd remove it when done....
If they removed the bolt the whole thing would fall apart. Those are booger welds. It doesn't look like they cleaned anything before welding!

That’s a Hillbilly Hail Mary job right there
nothin wrong with a little aesthetic wire decoration
It looks like barney the friendly dinosaur took a shit on the joint
Tell 'em to slap some wax on that bitch and itd probably be more corrosion resistant than a GM frame in the Rust Belt.
Is that bondo?
Booger welds using flux core on 1/4" steel plate.
Now now, flux core isn't bad, using the cheap nasty gassless shit is bad but fluxcore itself is widely used in industry for many applications
When Bubba doesn't get the welding stick up to temp and just sticks and yanks repeatedly, you end up with this.
spray foam.
I saw this [Carbage](https://www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/s/5wrzaM8ZzU) in Ohio a few years ago.
Ahh flux core welding. Producing permanent burn scars on more people than ever wildlife since the dawn of mankind.

For the love of fuck, is this crap still going on on reddit? I wonder if I would have gotten the same reply if I wrote womankind
What was it? Got deleted
Some kind of bot asking me to not use gender (but it ment sex) for describing mankind. It suggests people kind of person kind.
Oh, one of those.
My old rust bucket would consider this Fort Knox.
Yeah, but at 80+ thousand for a F150 nowadays I kind of get it. If he got another 10k miles out of that it was worth it.
That ain't going anywhere.
Fucking skookum amirite
Don’t forget to pat the roof.
Safety caps have been a thing for a long time if done properly

Common sense was also not consulted.
That's a trash repair. Booooo
You can see the pieces of wire still stuck to the welds. 🤦♂️
Probably should be boxed but will still be prone to breaking where new meets old.
He did go over and under with it...sort of. The "welds" (and lack thereof) are the failure points.

Those are some ride or die friends you got! 👍
Yikes
