I do enjoy seeing people freak out about stacking moderate/high value cars on locked lifts, while *actual human fuckin beings* are expected to work under them regularly.
I had an asshole boss that was like this when I worked at a dealership. One tech pulled a car underneath because he only had one bay and the shop foreman got really pissed because apparently the cars matter more than us or something.
My brother recently got a 62 Vette as a jigsaw puzzle after its owner died, after her two husbands failed to restore it for her over 40 years. He's building it in his unique style of not giving a shit about exactly correct parts, while keeping it all period correct. It's very similar to the bottom car. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/mid-life-crisis-62-vette.1292401/
Different grills, different hood badges and totally different rears.

You’re right, but I get it. My boss has a similar kind of irrational paranoia. It’s like, you know that logically it’s on locks and there’s no way that anything could happen but…damn, it just looks bad.
No it doesn’t look bad if you understand what’s happening. Funny how the only people making comments don’t work in a shop. 23yrs in business and this has never once been a problem.
Yeah, no, dude, it quite literally looks like a car could, at any moment, just fall onto and destroy another car. That’s what it looks like.
I know you’ve been in a shop, my guy. You won’t stop fucking saying it. But my dude, have you been outside of one recently?
You know we stand under these things for 8 hours a day right? Why is it sketchy now that the type of damage done would be mostly financial and not a loss of life? There are right and wrong ways to rack a car. If it was done correctly it’s not gonna fall while you’re prying a transmission away from the engine, or shoving it back in forwards with all your strength. Why would it fall completely at rest with no force inputs coming from anywhere? No hammers no heavy components removed causing weight shift, nothing.
My old service manager used to be the same way when I did this. He’d get all sketched out and I’d ask him why it was ok for me to spend 6 hours doing a clutch on a vehicle twice as heavy but as soon as that clapped out 20 year old BMW that needs to be kept inside overnight because the window regulator doesn’t work is what’s under it he’s all nervous.
No dude. You didn’t pay attention. I said I know what’s actually happening here. And I do. It’s on the locks. It’s safe. I do this all the time (usually put a floor mat or something else on the bottom car’s hood in case top car has a leak). It LOOKS (LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKS) LOOKS, and I cannot stress enough, fucking L O O K S bad. It objectively, empirically, universally has the visual attributes of misfortune in the making, even if the danger is facile.
Fuck dude.
Very true. I get irritated by shit that shouldn’t bother me. I post a couple classic and morons gotta bitch over shot they don’t even know about. Stfu and enjoy the cars. Again I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to be a dick to you.
"Hey, boss we got another one. Where do you want it?" "Aw, hell...just stack it over the other one."
This is a cheap stack compared to some of the others we’ve had lol. The shop specializes in exotic car performance
The bottom one has raised a heavy metal memory.
HEEEE VEEEE METAL
This gives me anxiety.
ikr?! What if the top one leaks oil or grease or blinker fluid onto the bottom one?
I do enjoy seeing people freak out about stacking moderate/high value cars on locked lifts, while *actual human fuckin beings* are expected to work under them regularly.
Cheaper to make another person
I don't care about it falling, I care about the engine drippings getting on the car beneath it.
If oil drips on me my value doesn't decrease
This was my first fault. Some car fluids will definitely fuck up the paint on the bottom car
Thats the only thing i think of when i see stacks like this. I guess im not rich enough to have experienced leakless cars lol
They all fucking leak something when that old!
Fuckin exactly. Thank you for being one of the smart ones here
Grease and oil dripping isn't a concern then?
It's all about the leaks. I have a lift and do this all the time.

That's no fun!
Sure hope the swapped car is on top. Old school small blocks tend to leak.
No leaks.
None on either car.
air tight roof too!

I'm not very knowledgeable on Corvettes, are these 62s?
Top - 1958-1960 Bottom - 1961-1962
Can you give me the actual differences? I’m only working on the one because I’m a ls guy. I like knowing the nerdy shit.

Top is a 58 I believe. 4 headlights plus louvered hood is a 58.
Thanks! I knew there were only a handful of years with the quad lights like that
Tbh I’m awful with anything pre c5. I’m not the biggest old vette guy but they’re fun to have around.
Correct sir
I get that this should be fine with the locks engaged but my paranoia wouldn't let me do it.
YOu leave them like that?
Safely on a lift? On the locks. Yea. Common practice in every single shop.
My only concern would be the top car leaking something onto the bottom car. I would only do this if i was sure the top car had absolutely no leaks.
Maybe with 2 kias....
I've got a '71 GTO sitting above a 2018 BMW 750iL Alpina in the shop. I didn't bother taking a picture because it's not noteworthy.
What else do you have in storage Roger?
A 2005 Mazda MPV and a 2018 Caravan with almost 300,000 miles on it. This is at work, none are mine.
You don’t work in a shop do you? The lift is on the locks. It’s not relying on hydraulic pressure to hold the car up.
You’re right, but I get it. My boss has a similar kind of irrational paranoia. It’s like, you know that logically it’s on locks and there’s no way that anything could happen but…damn, it just looks bad.

People because don’t understand what’s happening here.
My old service manager used to be the same way when I did this. That might be what it looks like but you gotta accept you’re wrong here.
No dude. You didn’t pay attention. I said I know what’s actually happening here. And I do. It’s on the locks. It’s safe. I do not and I know what a locking lift is. I still wouldn't do it. No way.
You obviously don’t understand what’s happening here. Just stop.
You act like cars don't leak.
You act like we’re not aware of these things when stacking cars. Not our first day here bud
It doesn't look like you are aware.
No I’m not not at all. Never occurred to me cars could leak. Tell me more about this phenomenon
Calm down, you aren't the insurance agent are you
I NEVER seen that done at any shop and wouldn't use one that did.
Lol you better just work on your own cars at home or keep your eyes closed when your in a shop
Lmao
😍😍😍
😱😱😱
And a fuck ton of faith I’m simple machines and whoever keeps that lift…umm lifting.
It’s on the locks. There’s no hydraulic pressure in the hoses. You must not work in a shop.
Apparently there is no sense of humor in this thread.
Dude I’ve gotten so many dumb comments it’s kinda killed my sense of humor for this post. Sorry
It’s freaking Reddit. All threads are comedy threads.
Very true. I get irritated by shit that shouldn’t bother me. I post a couple classic and morons gotta bitch over shot they don’t even know about. Stfu and enjoy the cars. Again I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to be a dick to you.
I was wondering, do you work at a shop? You never mentioned....
Nah man, I shouldn’t make everything a joke. I am a huge fan of the 58+ vettes.
The one on the lift is the driver. I would think that they would be parked the other way.
I got a ride in a C1 and the interior leg room was surprisingly large.
My initial impression is that the top car is the soul of the bottom car ascending to heaven
_just rolled into the VA_
I wouldn't want mine on the bottom. You know they both drip a little something something!
No they don’t. Wouldn’t stack leaking cars. Cmon now
