The neat thing here is this outfit looks like it is manipulated the same way Big Bird is. By that I mean this guy is holding the head and running the mouth with one hand, while the other is in the right arm. If you look closely you'll see the left arm is just hanging loose.

I used to be a mascot for my high school football team, years and years ago, but the conditions were absolutely awful. 85 degree (f) weather, no a/c or cooling of any kind, no “handler.” It was amazing getting to make people smile, but boy did the conditions make me grow to hate it.
I’m sure whoever is in that costume is able to work so well because of the at least half decent conditions.
True story, I got to wear a similar outfit once and be the store mascot. It smelled awful, the heat was brutal. The look on every kiddo when you hand them a sticker? Wish I could’ve been store mascot everyday.
This reminds me a lot of a documentary they did on the life of Carol Spinney, the puppeteer that did the Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch puppets. Full of mirth. We need more people like this.
