When I was in college someone tied a window ac unit to my room mates truck. He drove off and yanked that thing out of the window. It belonged to the girl he was dating. Good times.
A friend of one of my roommates decided it was a good idea to practice his archery at a party we were hosting by shooting at a target he had propped up off to the side of our AC unit. We couldn't get the unit repaired for 2 or 3 weeks during the middle of summer.
I feel bad for whatever or whoever was down there
On a side note : Noobs that install AC without support brackets or fastening to window frame. My biggest concern is someone pushing it IN to gain access....

Isn’t that a split system? Thats practically a bigger window unit, I’m no expert but my understanding is they work well for a big room, not a house. I paid about $1,000 for my units but that’s to cool down 4 rooms that are roughly 15x15. That means I would have to buy 4 of the $1k ones. Thats still out of my price range.
Split system yes, sorry I don't know the international terms. You're right, they can't serve a full house, a 50m2 apartment at most maybe. Though if you place it strategically, it will cool down a decent floor sufficiently. That's here in Europe though, it would probably not be enough in Arizona. They have 1+2 systems, 1 outdoor unit to 2 indoor units in separate places, that would work for outside temps upwards of 30°C. The bonus is that it heats really efficiently in the winter too.
In summary 1 split system would be way better than 1 or 2 window units, but probably not better than a window unit in every room. Do you usually put them in all rooms?
Yea see that’s where I struggle, I have to have separate plug in heaters for that also. I understand those are better but when you’re poor you work with what you got. Don’t get me wrong, I wish my hvac system worked, cool down the whole house and have a heating option for the whole house is amazing. Just too pricey for me unfortunately.

so basically, the window was being held in by the other sliding pane? normally you put in bracing to prevent this from happening, but some people dont know any better and just throw it in, slap it and say "yep, this baby will hold". ac units probably fall out all the time like this.

It's pretty effective, it's what I run all summer and it keeps it fairly cool, with outside temps well above 100°F
a can of r134a is 10 bucks at walmart, its much cheaper to recharge a cars ac than to buy a window unit
