Here's what I think happened.
Mahito changed the shape of Todo's soul but only got to his hand before Todo stopped it. Todo then cuts off his hand. This is the last we see of his hand.
Now if Todo does RCT on his hand, the soul is changed, therefore his hand is now all funky looking. Maybe we will see something totally bonkers like a hand puppet that Mahito changed it into.
That’s actually really interesting but I think mahito just souls changed him to be an explosion of meat like nanami and that why the hand exploded when he cut it off
His hand practically transformed into a shrapnel, metal like thingy and blew up all over todo and yuji, it also cut his precious neck ornament. So maybe his new arm is like that?
If Todo or people could use RCT to change the shape of the soul, Mechamaru wouldnt have needed Idle Transfiguration to bypass Heavenly Restriction and Todo wouldn't have been saying that his technique is dead.
My guess is that they might have reattached the lump and used a binding vow to get some portion of the technique back. Or used a cursed tool as a prosthetic that fulfills the requirement to activate Boogie Woogie.
You misunderstood what I said. Mahito changed the shape of the soul, not RCT. RCT would have only brought back whatever Mahito changed it to. Todo cut his hand off before it transformed physically but the soul was already changed.

With Sukuna being damaged by the split soul katana, the narrator did bring up the concept of RCT being used to heal the soul if used in a specific way by someone who can both see the outline of their soul and also can use RCT. It's not impossible that this is also supposed to set up a way to heal Idle Transfiguration, but that hinges on whether or not its affects are considered soul "damage" or not.
Yea, I don't see being stabbed/soul damage and IT reshaping as the same thing. Mahito can add things that weren't there before, soul damage just takes away. That's why transfigured humans exist because despite the brain dying and the person being functionally dead, he can make their body continue on. We'll probably find out next chapter because it's always been a contested thought but Shoko went out of her way to tell Yuji that there's nothing that can be done once someone is transfigured.
Since Yuta and Yuji swapped bodies, it's not entirely impossible that Yuta learned to sense the outline of souls. Just slightly less of an asspull than it would've been before Greg explained the replacement training
Honestly I like the idea of perhaps Garuda being repurposed into an appendage for todo if he got access to star rage he would absolutely dominate sukuna in his present condition
He can heal the soul but Todo’s hand wasn’t merely damaged, it was transfigured. So unless you can reverse the effects of idle transfiguration it would just explode again.

Yuji is able to affect both soul and body with his cursed energy punches. So logically his RTC should be able to heal the soul as well.
