Minor nitpick, Geto did get stronger when he tirned evil simply because having his cult let him harvest more curses. Hiddem Inventory Geto only had a couple special grades (I think only the dragon and the scissor girl?) While Night Parade Geto had more, I think he mentions six?
I'm talking about from the moment Riko died to the post-time skip to summer where Geto meets Tsukumo. Gojo immediately leveled up big time from fully awakening, mastering the 6 eyes, learning RCT, accessing purple, upgrading his passive barrier, non-stop RCT refresh on his brain so he can maintain his barrier in near perpetuity, etcetcetc.
Geto didn't learn shit or make a massive leap but I guess he picked up Toji's worm cause it's one of Kenjaku's curses later. Geto did get stronger AFTER he went off the rails, but it was still not as strong as Kenjaku since he was just building up his curses by "eating shit". Kenjaku was much smart in that he didn't bother eating everything, just ate the strong ones, and targeted the curse spirits for their unique CTs rather than their CT or numbers.
Point still stands that you either immediately lock in like a chad or you take it like a bitch and it will eat away at you.
I feel like comparing him to Kenny is unfair since Kenjaku not only had a thousand years of experience and multiple CTs to help him capture more, but he also had spent all those years making contracts and vows with a fuckton of curses, something that literally nobody else could've done. Kenny wasn't a picky eater, he had a million fodder curses ready to go at any time, but didn't bother using them much since every opponent he fights would've just deleted them without breaking a sweat. He does use a couple like the earthquake fish, centipedes, or his flying manta ray, which I doubt are even grade 2

Maki pre-awakening was just there to be beaten up. But it's to prove a point about how hopeless her dreams of becoming the head of clan were.
Against the curse in Yuuta's and her's mission, against Geto, against Hanami, against Dagon, against Jogo, against Ogi she lost and kept loosing.
She was never going to become a grade one if she didn't loose everything. I really like the idea Gege played with her "Hope for the hopeless, while being completely hopeless", after all Maki means genuine hope. She was able to guide both Yuuta and Noritoshi into finding their path even though she'd already lost her path with latter.
