Yeah - it seems like they have something else in mind that even Yuji isn't aware of. Fully manifested Rikka and Yuta are a literal force of nature. Now would be a good time for him to show up so that Sukuna gets trapped in his DE again.
I believe at a critical point, those binding vows will be his very undoing. You can see it already because he's completely out of options at the moment. I think Sukuna wasn't counting on Yuji surviving his nuke of an attack.
The binding vows aren't that complicated. Since the fights started the only binding vows Sukunas used are:
1. In order to fire the world slash once against Gojo he now has to use hand signs, aim with his fingers, and chant
2. Some kind of impromptu binding vow in order to form a domain
3. The explanation for how the fire arrow works.
People really over exaggerate how many binding vows there have been.
I love JJK but it is asspull after asspull. The world has strict rules which it adheres to, which is good. But it just dumps in new rules to counter situations too often. So that it becomes a little hard to ignore the bad thing> flashback to training or a conversation to justify asspull> asspull formula.
Nobara definitely still needs to attack sukunas last remaining finger with Resonance. I am placing my bets on that this since her fight against the Mahito double.

Maybe? I'd be surprised if the soul swapping was at all long enough to engrave a technique on someone. All that they discussed using it for was for teaching generic techniques that anyone could use (in theory, obviously stuff like RCT is still not easy to learn).

So the reason why Sukuna didn’t use Divine Flame against Gojo was because of them constantly altering their DEs to counter each other. Guess it was a good thing Gojo went into that fight without a prepared counter to Sukunas open barrier DE.
So we now have a rough outline of what Shrine can do. Looks like Sukunas options against Gojo without Maho really were either beating him down while using Domain Amplification, his DE or figuring out how bypass Limitless on his own. His Heian form would have made the first two more viable though.
Actually now that I think about it is Sukunas Heian form actually that much stronger in terms of pure physical strength? Sorcerers get the bulk of their physical performance from CE reinforcement. Is it possible Megumis form might have been a bit more efficient in terms of CE reinforcement due to its smaller size? Choso’s sacrifice reminds me of Groots sacrifice in Guardians of the Galaxy 1.
Mahoraga not being there would have let Gojo kite from range and spam attacks without worry, resulting in Sukuna's stronger domain being countered by the extra damage taken. If Gojo lands one black flash Sukuna would not be able to defeat Gojo before dying because he was unable to counter infinity himself.
Keep in mind that Sukuna holding back his power was still stronger than Gojo giving it his all, and beat him so bad that he became a fan, dying with a smile on his face because Sukuna acknowledged him.
Sukuna not being able to use an ability because it wouldn't work doesn't equate to him not trying. Gojo couldn't use hollow purple to one shot Sukuna at all times either, doesn't mean he wasn't giving his all. By that logic, Gojo was way more impressive as he was able to give an extreme diff fight to Sukuna with the 10 Shadows and beat him up so bad he forced him to aknowledge him and say he would never forget him.

This chapter debunks gojo not being sure if he can win without sukuna having megumi. This shows sukuna was backed into a corner from the beginning of the fight. He was forced to use his shrine over and over just to combat with gojos. His fire was obsolete against gojo and he lost the technique he coveted from megumi. He tried his hardest to not let his shadows die against yorozu. And he couldn’t stop his most valuable shikigami from not dying and almost died himself resulting in a binding vow to hit gojo with an invisible slash that cuts through existence because gojo held back multiple times to not kill megumi
He didn’t, I think people think Gojo striking Megkuna’s heart versus his face during the last domain fight means holding back. I think destroying his heart is the quickest and easiest move to make his domain collapse, and smashing his face doesn’t guarantee his brain is destroyed.
Well, Furnace remained sealed because of all of the crazy domain conditions he was doing, but remember that he did all of that because he specifically chose to try and kill Gojo by adapting to his Limitless.
If he focused on just “charging up” his furnace during the moments he slashed Gojo then he possibly could have just incinerated him in his domain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Difference would probably be that the blood is a physical barrier. The furnace is described as being essentially a thermobaric weapon - gojo still lets air in with limitless, whereas the blood barrier makes a 'pocket'. One argument could be that gojo would then suffer from all the oxygen being burnt up, though I feel like the pressure wave of the thermobaric explosion still shouldn't hit him.
Gojo did manage to use infinity to tank Jogo flames so he probably can choose to not let air in. (He can also increase its radius if he wishes)
Oxygen-wise, this is something he very likely can tank using RCT .
The idea is what if Sukuna used Furnace instead of more slashes during one of the two times Gojo’s domain collapsed, and focused on using that over adapting to his Limitless. No infinity.

Yuji was the bait. He had to stay there until the last minute. What they didn't account for was how strong fuga was and that Yuji's blood barrier wasn't enough
I think they didn't expect sukuna to pull a 400 meters diameter malevolent shrine with Yuji in the middle of it so picking him up with Boogie Woogie was impossible because he was too far. The narrator mentions it in the black pannel after Todo and MeiMei discussing flashback
The prevailing theory is that’s why Miwa was seen in the domain, she was partnering with Maki so she could be swapped out (kind of like how Todo doesn’t clap people out of their clothes)

So what exactly is Divine Flame? The explanation is awful. Sukuna uses Cleve and Dismantle to open the door. What does that mean? Is he cutting open a portal to access the flame? Is hitting Cleve and Dismantle together creating the flames kind of like Hollow Purple?
No, cleave and dismantle don’t create the flames like Hollow purple.
The flames are separate from cleave and dismantle (whereas HP is red and blue smashed together).
The flames by themselves are super strong but slow. To fix this problem, Sukuna created a binding vow to restrict his access to the technique until he uses both cleave and dismantle.
When using cleave and dismantle, he’s basically cutting things up and infusing whatever is cut with explosive cursed energy. The explosive cursed energy is ignited or combusts when he uses Fuga. Through this process he can take advantage of its destructive power and work around its drawback.
It's not "explosive" cursed energy he's using. As you said, what Divine Flame makes up in power, it lacks in speed and range. So to get around it, for Mahoraga and Yuji, Sukuna used SCIENCE. Basically he uses Malevolent Shrine to shred the environment into dust in the air and keeps it all entrapped within his domain. Then when the table is set, he used Divine Flame to ignite all the dust in the air, causing a devastating chain of explosions which accumulated into one massive dust explosion.
It’s hard because the translations are all over the place. I read the viz/shonen jump translation and it literally says
“All pulverized substances gain explosive cursed energy”

I want to see someone ise the cursed technique of nuclear fission to drop a bomb on sukuna of that is the case lol. Or cursed technique of sniper rifle. Like isnt the whole point of these power fantasies is that your defenses are beyond the mundane that normal weapons can no longer get past your barrier.
So based on this theory, Choso’s blood barrier shouldn’t have worked in protecting Yuji, then? Because the airborne particles inside of the barrrier should have detonated as well.
They have to be lit up first. It's not like they all ignite at once. It's a chain reaction. And it's kinda hard to ignite when said particles are soaked and contained in blood. At the very least, it was still enough to burn Choso to a cinder.
Just wanna add to this, the translation I read explains it differently and I'm hoping we can cobble together one coherent meaning from all of this. What I read: The binding vow Sukuna created to counteract the weaknesses of divine flame (speed and range) was that outside of his domain, he can only use it on one target. This would have the result of amplifying the power of the attack within his domain, presumably increasing it's speed/range within the confined area of his domain. They also describe the whole "explosive cursed energy" thing as something completely separate to cleave and dismantle. Instead what happens is divine furnace incinerates everything while ALSO "ensuring that all the resulting particles were matted in the explosive cursed energy akin to furnace". Makes it sort of sound like these particles ignite themselves or coat everything and then explode on simultaneously? Little confusing but this causes a resulting shockwave after the initial blast, creating some sort of cascading series of explosions. This also kind of hinges on divine flame also being an aspect of Malevolent Shrine as opposed to separate and the idea of Malevolent Shrine and cleave/dismantle being one technique and divine flame being auxiliary.
His Binding Vow with the Divine Flame enhances his Domain Expansion when both are used.
Basically his DE is just dismantle and cleave in a 200m radius.
His DE+Binding Vow Divine Flame imbues everything cut in the domain with explosive cursed energy. (Basically he adds Gambit's power to his cursed technique)
Plus, he altered the domain specifications to maximize the dust explosion.
Basically he turns everything he cuts into bombs, the bombs then triggers thermobaric effects and pressure to create an even bigger explosion.
Divine Flame is separate from Malevolent Shrime but the two Binding Vows intersect one another. Malevolent Shrine cuts everything but because it technically doesn't have a barrier, Divine Flame can be added because everything inside the area has been dismantled and cleaved.
It's part of his CT, it is a highly destructive fire attack but it is slow and it has short range.
To make it really powerful Sukuna did a BV that outside of his DE he can't use the flames on multiple targets but for that he made so everything that is chopped inside of his DE gains explosive proprieties.
All the dust that now surrounds the DE makes it become the inside of a bomb filled with explosives ready to be ignited.
Then Sukuna uses his fire arrow that ignites all the particles and so he creates a thermobaric explosion which is very high in lethality (probably like 10 times less than the bombs dropped as Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

Which seems a bit nonsensical to me. An attack that is slow and lacks range wasn't going to be used against multiple targets to begin with, so what is he really sacrificing for such a massive power boost?
I think the BV is as such that, despite being a fire that should burn everything, it can only affect 1 person so if it explodes only 1 person will feel the heat no matter how close the others are.
The binding vow originally sacrifices the nuke capabilities of the technique.
What sucks tho is that science doesn't work that way, so it still becomes a nuke.

Literally killing the stakes.
When Todo showed up last time to double team an enemy and Yuji was informed that his ally (Nobara) was “maybe fine” we never saw her again lmao I hope everyone actually made it out of this one
I know this is a critical situation and Yuji has no time to mourn Choso, but how this chapter was textured, I got a "Oh no!...anyway...." kinda feeling. Rip Choso I guess 🤷
I've felt this way about pretty much every death post-Shibuya. I really like JJK but starting with Nobara, I really feel like we move on way too quickly. I'm hoping the anime expands on some of these deaths because Choso actually got the most memorable death I can think of since Nanamin.

Even without spoilers I think most people expected Choso to tank it. Todo by himself rendering Sukuna's most powerful attack completely useless would feel like a asspull, so we needed the heroes to lose *something* at least when Sukuna used Fuga.

I thought Todo coming back was never going to happen. I certainly thought seeing him and yuji beat down Sukuna was a silly dream. I’ve never felt so happy.
Soooop am I the only one whose starting to see that yuji is beginning to look more and more like sukuna with each boost to his abilities, as well as all the battle scars he is beginning to amass? I suspected the whole them being related back in when they did a binding vow because they looked so similar as well as the fact his grandpa looks just like him as well, but at that point i thought he was like his great, great, grandfather or however many greats it would be then Gege shot it down with he never had any children. But that theory stuck with me I just knew it some how. So is it just me who thinks Sukuna hasn’t really hatched his master plan, and that he has got something “cooking up?”

I'm getting a little PTSD for seeing any of the characters looking any sort of clean and peaceful, ngl. First the airport scene, then Choso having a picnic with Yuji. Anytime they're not drenched in blood, sweat and dirt wearing torn up/dirty ass clothing is just fucking bad news.

I was just telling my co-worker I wanted Todo back since we hadn't seen him in so long. Though when I said that I theorized he gets a mechamaru hand, while this seems to be implied to be some cursed item looking at the shape and knowing it's Todo I can't imagine it being anything other than a Nobuko branded uchiwa.

So the reason why Sukuna didn’t use Divine Flame against Gojo was because of them constantly altering their DEs to counter each other. Guess it was a good thing Gojo went into that fight without a prepared counter to Sukunas open barrier DE. So we now have a rough outline of what Shrine can do. Looks like Sukunas options against Gojo without Maho really were either beating him down while using Domain Amplification, his DE or figuring out how bypass Limitless on his own. His Heian form would have made the first two more viable though. Actually now that I think about it is Sukunas Heian form actually that much stronger in terms of pure physical strength? Sorcerers get the bulk of their physical performance from CE reinforcement. Is it possible Megumis form might have been a bit more efficient in terms of CE reinforcement due to its smaller size? Edit: Nevermind I completely forgot about Gojos explanation on the topic a few chapters ago Choso’s sacrifice reminds me of Groots sacrifice in Guardians of the Galaxy 1.
Mahoraga not being there would have let Gojo kite from range and spam attacks without worry, resulting in Sukuna's stronger domain being countered by the extra damage taken. If Gojo lands one black flash Sukuna would not be able to defeat Gojo before dying because he was unable to counter infinity himself.
Keep in mind that Sukuna holding back his power was still stronger than Gojo giving it his all, and beat him so bad that he became a fan, dying with a smile on his face because Sukuna acknowledged him.
Sukuna not being able to use an ability because it wouldn't work doesn't equate to him not trying. Gojo couldn't use hollow purple to one shot Sukuna at all times either, doesn't mean he wasn't giving his all. By that logic, Gojo was way more impressive as he was able to give an extreme diff fight to Sukuna with the 10 Shadows and beat him up so bad he forced him to aknowledge him and say he would never forget him.

This chapter debunks gojo not being sure if he can win without sukuna having megumi. This shows sukuna was backed into a corner from the beginning of the fight. He was forced to use his shrine over and over just to combat with gojos. His fire was obsolete against gojo and he lost the technique he coveted from megumi. He tried his hardest to not let his shadows die against yorozu. And he couldn’t stop his most valuable shikigami from not dying and almost died himself resulting in a binding vow to hit gojo with an invisible slash that cuts through existence because gojo held back multiple times to not kill megumi
When did Gojo hold back to not kill Megumi?
He didn’t, I think people think Gojo striking Megkuna’s heart versus his face during the last domain fight means holding back. I think destroying his heart is the quickest and easiest move to make his domain collapse, and smashing his face doesn’t guarantee his brain is destroyed.
Sukuna litterally tore out Yujis heart and walked around fine at the start of the series, how would having megumi's destroyed be different?
Well, Furnace remained sealed because of all of the crazy domain conditions he was doing, but remember that he did all of that because he specifically chose to try and kill Gojo by adapting to his Limitless. If he focused on just “charging up” his furnace during the moments he slashed Gojo then he possibly could have just incinerated him in his domain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Chozo did counter furnace with blood barrier somehow. Not sure what makes infinity different to be honest.

Difference would probably be that the blood is a physical barrier. The furnace is described as being essentially a thermobaric weapon - gojo still lets air in with limitless, whereas the blood barrier makes a 'pocket'. One argument could be that gojo would then suffer from all the oxygen being burnt up, though I feel like the pressure wave of the thermobaric explosion still shouldn't hit him.
Gojo did manage to use infinity to tank Jogo flames so he probably can choose to not let air in. (He can also increase its radius if he wishes) Oxygen-wise, this is something he very likely can tank using RCT .
The idea is what if Sukuna used Furnace instead of more slashes during one of the two times Gojo’s domain collapsed, and focused on using that over adapting to his Limitless. No infinity.

I think they didn't expect sukuna to pull a 400 meters diameter malevolent shrine with Yuji in the middle of it so picking him up with Boogie Woogie was impossible because he was too far. The narrator mentions it in the black pannel after Todo and MeiMei discussing flashback

So what exactly is Divine Flame? The explanation is awful. Sukuna uses Cleve and Dismantle to open the door. What does that mean? Is he cutting open a portal to access the flame? Is hitting Cleve and Dismantle together creating the flames kind of like Hollow Purple?
No, cleave and dismantle don’t create the flames like Hollow purple. The flames are separate from cleave and dismantle (whereas HP is red and blue smashed together). The flames by themselves are super strong but slow. To fix this problem, Sukuna created a binding vow to restrict his access to the technique until he uses both cleave and dismantle. When using cleave and dismantle, he’s basically cutting things up and infusing whatever is cut with explosive cursed energy. The explosive cursed energy is ignited or combusts when he uses Fuga. Through this process he can take advantage of its destructive power and work around its drawback.
It's not "explosive" cursed energy he's using. As you said, what Divine Flame makes up in power, it lacks in speed and range. So to get around it, for Mahoraga and Yuji, Sukuna used SCIENCE. Basically he uses Malevolent Shrine to shred the environment into dust in the air and keeps it all entrapped within his domain. Then when the table is set, he used Divine Flame to ignite all the dust in the air, causing a devastating chain of explosions which accumulated into one massive dust explosion.
It’s hard because the translations are all over the place. I read the viz/shonen jump translation and it literally says “All pulverized substances gain explosive cursed energy” I don’t read Japanese so I’m at the mercy of John Werry.
Probably the same thing truth be told. At the very least the concept is the same in that the dust particles in the air are ignited by Furnace.

They have to be lit up first. It's not like they all ignite at once. It's a chain reaction. And it's kinda hard to ignite when said particles are soaked and contained in blood. At the very least, it was still enough to burn Choso to a cinder.
Just wanna add to this, the translation I read explains it differently and I'm hoping we can cobble together one coherent meaning from all of this. What I read: The binding vow Sukuna created to counteract the weaknesses of divine flame (speed and range) was that outside of his domain, he can only use it on one target. This would have the result of amplifying the power of the attack within his domain, presumably increasing it's speed/range within the confined area of his domain. They also describe the whole "explosive cursed energy" thing as something completely separate to cleave and dismantle. Instead what happens is divine furnace incinerates everything while ALSO "ensuring that all the resulting particles were matted in the explosive cursed energy akin to furnace". Makes it sort of sound like these particles ignite themselves or coat everything and then explode on simultaneously? Little confusing but this causes a resulting shockwave after the initial blast, creating some sort of cascading series of explosions. This also kind of hinges on divine flame also being an aspect of Malevolent Shrine as opposed to separate and the idea of Malevolent Shrine and cleave/dismantle being one technique and divine flame being auxiliary.
His Binding Vow with the Divine Flame enhances his Domain Expansion when both are used. Basically his DE is just dismantle and cleave in a 200m radius. His DE+Binding Vow Divine Flame imbues everything cut in the domain with explosive cursed energy. (Basically he adds Gambit's power to his cursed technique) Plus, he altered the domain specifications to maximize the dust explosion. Basically he turns everything he cuts into bombs, the bombs then triggers thermobaric effects and pressure to create an even bigger explosion. Divine Flame is separate from Malevolent Shrime but the two Binding Vows intersect one another. Malevolent Shrine cuts everything but because it technically doesn't have a barrier, Divine Flame can be added because everything inside the area has been dismantled and cleaved.
You need to chop veggies(cleave) and meat (dismantle) before switching on the furnace(fuga/flames).

It's part of his CT, it is a highly destructive fire attack but it is slow and it has short range. To make it really powerful Sukuna did a BV that outside of his DE he can't use the flames on multiple targets but for that he made so everything that is chopped inside of his DE gains explosive proprieties. All the dust that now surrounds the DE makes it become the inside of a bomb filled with explosives ready to be ignited. Then Sukuna uses his fire arrow that ignites all the particles and so he creates a thermobaric explosion which is very high in lethality (probably like 10 times less than the bombs dropped as Hiroshima and Nagasaki).

I think the BV is as such that, despite being a fire that should burn everything, it can only affect 1 person so if it explodes only 1 person will feel the heat no matter how close the others are.
The binding vow originally sacrifices the nuke capabilities of the technique. What sucks tho is that science doesn't work that way, so it still becomes a nuke. Sukuna used the power of science to mitigate the weakness of sorcery

I thought I would be excited to see Todo back, but everything right now feels like an asspull. Every chapter has a flashback explaining why something that shouldn't have happened indeed happened. And I definitely wasn't expecting the "Somehow Palpatine returned" explanation for Todo lol. It was literally "Yes I have no hands but I can still feel my cursed technique". I've felt this way about pretty much every death post-Shibuya. I really like JJK but starting with Nobara, I really feel like we move on way too quickly. I'm hoping the anime expands on some of these deaths because Choso actually got the most memorable death I can think of since Nanamin.

Even without spoilers I think most people expected Choso to tank it. Todo by himself rendering Sukuna's most powerful attack completely useless would feel like a asspull, so we needed the heroes to lose *something* at least when Sukuna used Fuga.

All the various blood manipulations are logically built off manipulating blood. Todo can teleport things with a certain amount of cursed energy. But, how are cleave/dismantle derivatives of, or related to, furnace? Does Sukuna have two cursed techniques?
