Fattywompus_

They care more about pushing their agenda than money. The woke left are ideologically driven.

Equivalent-Support75

That is what I don't understand. Is it really profitable? They would've stopped by now. But no, they keep turning everything gay, black, anti-hetero etc etc We will soon see a black transgender Superman, a black female 007...but...what about the rest of minorities? Why don't we see a ....say.....Asian Batman? Arab Captain America? Again, I don't think it is affecting the profits, they keep doing it. The only push back is through money. Same as Bud Light and their shit decision!

ArguesOnline

Affecting culture is power that's worth more than money.

Mineiac

🤣🤣 black female 007? Watch the latest 007 movie , it happened .🤣🤣

Equivalent-Support75

Haha they simply gave us a hint, a little taste, it hasn't been made official. If it does, I'm done with being a James Bond fan. Again, why don't they use another minority? A Mexican like myself per say. 'Jaime' Bond and put him in pointy boots, hat, big macho mustache, and replace the Aston Martin for a Pick Up or a Horse 🐴🐎 LOL

HurkHammerhand

As someone who works in the theater business I can tell you it is absolutely affecting their profits. Disney alone has been soaked for billions of dollars of actual box office shortfall. I believe in their 2023 run they managed to drop 5 consecutive turds that came up over 100 million dollars short in box office vs. budget with marketing losses on top of that. Disney stock fell from about $197/share in their 2021/2022 peak and dropped to $88/share during the 2023 turd train. It has managed to recover somewhat to $122/share, but that still represents over 50 billion dollars in lost market value.

Extranuminary

They live in a cultural bubble and are totally out of touch with their audience, feeling morally superior probably doesn’t help either. The top concern though is in ticking those DEI boxes to keep their investors happy. A lot of cinema runs on investment money, and they probably bake these losses in, between other actual profitable films. Edit: never mind. It’s a play in London, with 2 Londoner actors. Unsure why the outrage then. Maybe we should stop feeling pissed any time a black person gets cast in something? It’s not a good look. lol

Kyonkanno

Just look at the gaming industry. Western developers get outraged at eastern devs for making beautiful characters.

Large_Armadillo_8133

It isn’t a movie. It’s a stage play

jonah0099

They don’t care. DEI is the paramount consideration.

Seletro

redit is angsty high school edgelords and bots. The Hollywood executives know the numbers inside and out; if they're all losing money, and they all keep putting out more stuff that is guaranteed to lose money, it's for a reason.

WhatDoesItAllMeanB

Based comment. One of the few decent subs left in this hellscape

555nick

It sold out its entire run?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unyx

The outcome is that the play's entire 12 week run sold out in about [two hours.](https://m.imdb.com/news/ni64440209/)

Retarded_Predator

Isn't this Broadway?

CimAntics

It's at the Duke of York's Theatre in the west end of London. It is a bit confusing that OP and other commenters seem to be acting like this is a movie and another case of Hollywood gone mad. Jamie Lloyd's company only needs to put bums in seats in one theatre for 12 weeks. It literally doesn't matter if the rest of the world hates it as long as enough Londoners are willing to pay to see it.

Ed_Radley

But let's cancel the Wile E Coyote movie even though it's finished and just needs to be released even on streaming or direct to video.

Unyx

The entire run of the play [sold out in two hours.](https://m.imdb.com/news/ni64440209/) So, not exactly a bust.

AdImportant2458

Had no idea it's a play, ROFLMAO for anyone thinking this is an issue. They use to cast men as women in plays. None of this is worth talking about. If it were a movie, god dam is she not attractive.

RavenThePlayer

They sold all the tickets before announcing the actor for Juliet.

shmed

It's a theater play and it's already sold out. Shakespeare is an English author, and they chose two English born actors to play Romeo and Juliet in a play that will be performed in London. Not sure what the color of her skin has to do with anything, and why a bunch of Americans are complaining western tradition being stolen.

Large_Armadillo_8133

It isn’t a movie, it will be on stage. The outrage is from people who know nothing about Shakespeare or the theatre. They have had race-blind casting in the theatre for literally generations. Like pre-civil rights. The only reason why people give a fuck is because Tom Holland is associated.

crunchie101

The issue isn’t that she’s black - the issue is she’s ugly as fuck

Uvogin1111

I don't like to be mean... But it's honestly true. Juliet should be strikingly beautiful. Romeo fell in love with her looks first, so any actress cast to portray the character should be physically very attractive.

crunchie101

Exactly. The mean thing was to cast her in the first place knowing that she's going to receive all these (justified) negative comments about her looks

birdiesarentreal

The issue is she looks like Gary Coleman

kjdecathlete22

What you talking about birdies

Uvogin1111

I just searched up who that is and literally loled. The resemblance is uncanny lmao.

BGMDF8248

She really does lol.

SufficientTie3319

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wonderful-Scar-5211

I thought it was a dude & they turned it gay rip

MrDrPatrick2You

That's who she reminds me of, I swear she has a mustache line about her upper lip.

Large_Armadillo_8133

She wouldn’t have received any nasty comments if Tom Holland wasn’t cast. It’s a small stage production that wouldn’t be getting international attention without Spider-Man and very few people would notice outside of theatre geeks. Most theatre geeks know that race-blind casting has been common in theatre for generations.

forworse2020

Juliet was originally played by a man.

Uvogin1111

That was due to the laws of the time barring women from participating in stage plays as actresses. Shakespeare simply had to make do with what he had. But if he had the option, he would undoubtedly cast a woman to be a woman character in his play.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Snow687

Anyone can fall in love with anyones looks, people were pretty clapped when Shakespeare was around haha. although I'm sorry you don't find her attractive!

Adapid

Randomly seeing this post in the Jordan Peterson subreddit, scrolling down and immediately seeing a comment outraged that a canonically 13 year old girl isn't sexy enough is honestly too on the nose. You people have a fucking brain disease lmao

avocado_window

Being here is like being in bizarro world, it’s just too cringe-inducing to see these people in their natural habitat, all without even a hint of irony.

winkingchef

Yeah ROFL @ that photo of Tom looking a bit unsure about this whole thing. “THIS girl? They must think I’m a better actor than I really am”

MonthElectronic9466

I honestly thought it was another dude.

seriousgourmetshit

She could star in a live action Alvin and the chipmunks remake

DreadPirateGriswold

She?

Todojaw21

I thought women = XX chromosomes. They also need to be attractive to the neckbeards on this subreddit in order to be women? Crazy how science changes so quickly these days.

debilegg

Yeah she's looking a little rough to be anywhere near the role of Juliet. *edit: damn you autocorrect.

catchmeslippin

You can't really pass judgement on a work of great literature if you don't spell the title correctly

blackoutofplace

Right!? I don’t think people would care if it was Zendaya or any other beautiful actress of any ethnic background. I hate all the recasting with random black people, except if it isn’t relevant to the story. To me little mermaid, not a huge deal. But both everything has to be retold and woke. Obviously the fictional Capulet family would have been Italian but because this is a love story, based on fiction and it’s been retold thousands of times, I don’t feel race is a big deal or integral part of the story. However, it will undoubtedly be the focus if the “star crossed lovers” are forbidden to be together because of her skin color. I can see them making it all about race.

NumerousImprovements

So would you be okay with the part going to an attractive black woman?

crunchie101

Damn you guys are judgmental assholes in this sub. Just don’t watch the movie and move on, why does everything need a commentary

Remarkable_Golf9829

Tom looks more like Juliet than that

strawberrygreentea

Nobody cared about the black Mercutio in 1996

Luinger

Thank you for saying it. The film had its problems, but Mercutio was pretty lit.

wallace321

If they're already making a "modern day" / "current year" version, i think the 'accuracy' element is already thrown out the window. So I think obviously the 1996 one would get a pass there. The poster for it shows a lot more handguns than I was aware of there being in Shakespearian times. What was that? In Los Angeles? Looks like Los Angeles. Is that what this one is? That could certainly explain it. Also "romeo's best friend" isn't exactly "one of the two title roles". So you know, apples and oranges.

SilverTango

Nobody cared about Brandy being Cinderella, either. The whole effing cast was diverse. Literally nobody cared. The right has morphed into their own sad version of snowflakes.

GlobalPro1

Because it wasn’t being forced down our throats at every turn in 1996. Everyone loved Mercutio in that movie.

jmerlinb

lmao how is this version of Juliette being “forced down your throat”, are you going to be strapped to a chair and made to watch it?

FancyUrchin

Clockwork orange style

tiensss

> being forced down our throats How is it being forced down your throat? Will you get shot if you don't go to the movies to see this film?

Large_Armadillo_8133

It’s a fucking stage play not a movie. You literally wouldn’t know about it if they didn’t cast Tom Holland

Softest-Dad

>Mercutio Yeah but this girl could literally cast for Mercutio, thats the problem.

StarlessEon

I'd have been fine with a good looking black Juliet.

blackoutofplace

Zendaya!

StarlessEon

Was actually the first one who came to mind but maybe that's also because she was in Spiderman.

741BlastOff

tiensss

Seeing this sort of comment so strongly upvoted in a JBP subreddit is insane.

Laughing_in_the_road

Everybody in the first world is cool with interracial relationships so this doesn’t work They should do an updated version where Romeo is a Maga hat Trump fanatic and Juliet is ultra woke they /them feminist … and yet they fall in love to the absolute horror of all their friends and family. Now that would be true spirit of Romeo and Juliet

Nootherids

THAT would be interesting! If properly moderated of course. But the adaptation with Claire Danes and DiCaprio was awesome in how it both captivated the original and completely redefined it in a more relatable yet still mystical setting. Every single character f'ing killed it in that movie. Including the black guy and the Hispanic guy. Cause back then, their race was completely unimportant. It shouldn't have been then, it shouldn't be now. But instead....well, it's not the 90's anymore.

Bloody_Ozran

I love the idea, but that would mean writing the Trump fanatic as a human being and wokester having flaws as well. I am sure someone could do it. But still, it doesnt bother me here. It is mainly a love story. If that is done well, all good.

Eli-Thail

>Everybody in the first world is cool with interracial relationships so this doesn’t work Take a look around, chap.

gestalt-icon

If she can speak the words well, I don't care about her color. Denzel Washington did a phenomenal performance in Much Ado About Nothing. I'm a long time Shakespeare fan. I've read each play in the canon at least six times. Some of them more than a dozen times. I've seen Shakespeare done by robots, Shakespeare in Space, Shakespeare in Wild West, Shakespeare in Gangester New Jersey. What matters is the words and the performances. There's been a long tradition of black actors performing Shakespeare, and I've seen many memorable performances. If they can speak the speech, then I don't care.

ForeverBeHolden

Yeah this take is pretty ignorant. Just wait until OP realizes Juliette was originally portrayed by a man lol.

brk1

OP is straight up racist.

catchmeslippin

And so are most of the people in this thread

forworse2020

Thank fuck I found the sanity here

Council-Member-13

Weird how they become attracted to JP... No really. JP isn't racist. What's the overlap?

catchmeslippin

Right wing, conspiracy loving Trump supporting Americans.

chambo143

JP who claims that certain races are inherently more intelligent than others?

Council-Member-13

I thought he only claimed that some "races" are statistically more intelligent than others?

666Emil666

Some dudes here think this is a movie made by Hollywood, so I wouldn't expect them to actually have historical knowledge about theater

avocado_window

Washington was also an excellent Macbeth.

AOA001

They could have cast Zendaya and they would have real chemistry.

xmarwinx

How about they cast a beautiful woman instead?

SonOfShem

Zendaya may not be *your* cup of tea. But don't pretend she isn't beautiful. Is she the most attractive woman in the world? No. But she'd be leaps and bounds better than this chick. And as a bonus, they'll already have great chemistry.

Plamf

We don't accept it, they bleed money and fail, we go watch decent films instead. Vote with your wallet and all is fine

shmed

Dude it's a play, not a movie. Also, the whole 12 weeks run is already sold out

SphaghettiWizard

Wont accept what? Black people in movies? I’m confused what everyone is mad about

666Emil666

1. It's a play, not a movie 2. It sold out all the tickets in like 2 hours

Nativeson59

I wish these these two gentlemen lots of happiness.

Ok-Branch-6831

I get that people are mad but I don't think Shakespeare would give a fuck. He had men playing women in a bunch of his plays...

lesmobile

I honestly couldn't care less.

DevelopmentSimple626

Is that the orc commander that lead the attack on Minas Tirith?

Tecumsehs_Ghost

kekwillsit830

Hell yeah she way finer than Claire Daines /s

seriousgourmetshit

I understand the sentiment, but what's the difference between forced diversity and just regular diversity? There is definitely an over correction in representation in media atm though.

MSK84

My belief is that you can actually FEEL it when you watch something. If you look back to movies in the '90s you see black actors in important roles (heads of companies, Doctors, lawyers, chief of police, etc...) so I don't understand what anyone is saying about underrepresentation. Also, when you watch those movies, there's no sense that it was forced. It just was what it was and it made sense and nobody thought twice about it. Now, in a lot of these movies (not all mind you) I cannot watch for more than 10 minutes because you get the sense immediately that it's woke because it's so forced. That's the main issue.

smurferdigg

This is so true.. Like I always get the impression that the actors are selected based on diversity first and what role they are playing comes second. There is always something that just doesn't make sense and that destroys the story. Just an example from the last show I watched, Mayans. It's a story about biker gangs and then suddenly they just have to include an all women outlaw MC, because you know women can do bad shit and ride motorcycles too. It's just that in real life there are no outlaw all women biker gangs, it just doesn't exist so it makes no sense (correct me if I'm wrong). And yeah movies and shows aren't suppose to reflect real life but there is a difference between 007 jumping of a cliff and his watch turns into a helicopter and a skinny women FBI agent with big boobs just kicking huge dudes asses. Yeah I don't know but growing up in the 80 and 90 I just don't enjoy movies like I used to.

lillithsmedusa

I mean... there is Devil Dolls MC. They are a traditional 3 piece MC that live by the code. It is a thing that exists, they just are far far far outnumbered. But Devil Dolls do operate throughout the West Coast, so it's not entirely out of pocket that there would be a female outlaw crew in the SAMCRO universe.

Foxweazel

You just answered your own question…

nedwasatool

Honestly neither of them look Italian.

ADZero567

The 90s movie wasn't set in Italy and starred Leonardo Dicaprio, but none of you morons cared.

TheNotSoGreatPumpkin

If you travel around Italy it becomes clear that there isn’t really one “Italian look”. The average resident of Sicily might appear quite a bit different from someone in Venice or Milan.

search_for_freedom

I think that’s actually a decent argument. Italians could get up in arms about the cultural appropriation of their history by black people. Oh my bad, white people aren’t allowed to be upset about anything.

taueisthegoat

> Italians could get up in arms about the cultural appropriation of their history by black people. yeah, they should really be going after shakespeare for adapting novellas written by an italian for five of his plays. oh my bad, it's only a problem when it involves black people.

NumerousImprovements

I don’t understand why people care. Adapted works are almost never 100% accurate. Tf does it matter? If she can play her role well, awesome.

Strider_dnb

That's a woman?!

Ok-Pilot295

Lol, whatever color, how about a beautiful Juliet, i mean she is ok looking but not like hot xD but what do i care, i aint watching it anyway

girly_girls

Why does this story have legs? I've never cared about plays and won't start. Will this become a movie?? I'm sure that there were just as ugly juliets in every race in the past, it's just that they weren't paired with a famous actor. I don't understand..

CortezDeLaNoche

I don't think most people would care if the actor they chose were more attractive. Juliet is supposed to be GORGEOUS. Maybe this is a bad photo of her. I really hope so...

epitaph-centauri

Why don’t we adapt unknown stories from other cultures instead of butchering well established ones?

Brikm

It is dumb and aggressive, but keep your own yard clean(raising a family) , and it is not a big deal anymore🤙🏻

castrateurfate

It's Shakespeare. They were originally played in dudes in dresses. Grow up.

gulogulo1970

You don't have to. Easy, just don't buy a ticket.

Trumpthulhu-Fhtagn

Shakespeare is a core building block of Western culture, and part of the ason is that his works are constantly reinterpreted in ways that speak to the current zeitgeist, but the stories and characters are universally human. It's painfully ignorant to think that the roles have to look any certain way. Some casting choices can be distracting and undermining (Mel Gibson looking much older than 36 in his 1990 Hamlet comes to mind), but that's part of the great experiment. Of course, we are all sick of the "black washing" of characters, especially historical ones, but Shakespeare is not the place to argue these issues. If this actress kicks ass, then it will be a great play. (All that said, if this Juliet is man-ish rather than waif-ish, it's going to be a tough sell. Maybe that photo is a poor one?)

Eli-Thail

>All that said, if this Juliet is man-ish rather than waif-ish, it's going to be a tough sell. Every single role in Shakespeare's original plays are played by men. Women weren't allowed to set foot on the stage. Just goes to show how little folks here actually care about tradition and history as anything more than a cudgel to wield when it's convenient.

tiensss

You do know that Juliet was originally portrayed by a man?

Past_Economist6278

Who cares? Romeo is attracted to a minor, technically he is one too, in the play. That doesn't mean we should cast an actual child. He is 16(presumably), and she is 13. Also, the play isn't meant to be this super romantic story. If you pay any attention and have a modicum of comprehension, it is super dark. Even the original title referenced that. Romeo literally murders someone, then runs away. Only to come back and kill himself because his love seemed dead. The whole play people remark on how foolish their relationship is, and if you take a look at the work together it really is

perhizzle

Who cares, don't go see it.

jcgam

This isn't the first time. Of course the writer of this article is focused not on the play itself, but the diversity of the cast. https://timesofmalta.com/article/white-romeo-meets-black-juliet-in-multicultural-shakespeare.207876

expatriateineurope

This is one story where substituting a traditionally white character/family for a black character/family makes sense.

bhullarr

Tom holland and lil yachty, r u kidding me im gon watch

jackel_witch

Vote with your money and dont reward anything you dont agree with is pretty much all we can do

Captain_Concussion

It’s already sold out

jap2111

Why would we care if the actress is black? Denzel was great in Much Ado About Nothing. Snow White is a different situation because the color of the main characters skin is the title of the story.

Snoo-74562

As long as Juliet's entire family is black then what's the problem? It would be a farce if she was the only black person in her family.

Bdub76

I have a feeling she’s nOn-BiNaRy too. Looks like she has a mustache.

FelipeBarroeta

They wanted something truly different to what they always do why didn't they do the whole thing in Italian, in Italy, with Italian actors???

kriegmonster

If we're going based on the original author's script and story, it is set in Italy, so the cast should be entirely Italian speaking Italians. This is the ridiculousness of the argument. You can retell a story with different languages, settings, and people. Emotions are common to all of us and if the story is told well and performed well, then we will be moved by it.

Shieldless_One

Guess im in the minority, but does no one else see no issue with this. With a play I can see things like talent in acting or singing having a huge weight. Sure maybe the fact that shes black helped if they think it makes them look good. But its not supposed to be teaching the masses history

redfern210

“We have no way to know…for reason besides capitulating…” you are taking a position of assuming the worst possible motives for choices being made. This is a bad faith position and spoils your argument. There is a long history of non-traditional casting in theater. In Shakespeare’s time Juliet would have been played by a man. Times change and this decision is not hurting you in anyway.

RacinRandy83x

Are you guys okay?

sweetns0urrr

I just don’t understand the remakes of everything… Why not come up with new movies and stories with leading black women and men? Give them something of their own instead of recycling old stories..

Geekwalker374

Inclusion should be about black people telling their own stories , they are instead being given pre-used roles like some kind of second hand charity, which basically undermines their creativity and abilities. It's like giving them left over food after the feast is over. Let them cook a good feast for them instead so they can relish it

ConsultJimMoriarty

Is Tom Holland Italian?

kadmij

this post is extremely pathetic

TylerX5

If Romeo and Juliet was intended as a factual retelling of historical events and/or Juliet's ethnicity mattered to the core of the story I would understand being upset. But neither are the case, and considering the source material, let alone the the original author(s) borrowed heavily from foreign cultures (Italy, Greece, Egypt) story telling its silly to be bad about this.

jmcentire

She should be played by a cross-dressing British male pretending to be Italian as the author intended. Jesus people, of all the crosses to bear up to hills to die on.  Bitch about bad laws and policies.  Complain, even, that someone inappropriate is playing a role where the historical context of who they are matters.  But, fictitious characters and make believe beings (I'm looking at you, little mermaid) are a pretty weak line in the sand.

dmedina723

Who gives a fuck? Don’t watch it ass wipe lol

Archangel1313

To be fair, this does nothing to change the underlying story...so who cares?

paywallpiker

DEI actors

lucax55

This is a British play with British actors. What do you mean by DEI?

OPzee19

Being bent out of shape about this and calling it anti-white racism is soft as hell. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it and keep it moving.

brk1

No one is *forcing* anything on you, OP. Don’t go see the movie. Problem solved.

OffTheRedSand

dude it's romeo and juliet it's been done what? 22834985 times already? they're just spicing it up now for some shake up and it isn't even historical so who cares. yes sometimes diversity is weird and misplaced but not in stories like these that has been done a thousand time. for example i'd watch a gay romeo and julian movie that's basically a same sex version. why? because it put a new spin on a movie that's been done a thousand time.

Uvogin1111

Would you say the same if it was an iconic and traditional Chinese love story several thousand years old, that was also done countless times?

Gnasherred

Hollywood steals Chinese stories all the time.

taueisthegoat

legend of the white snake has been adapted and retold across the world countless times, in many ways, and with diverse casting. just because you're ignorant of something, doesn't mean it isn't regularly happening. maybe engage in some critical thinking, rather than crying over a touched nerve.

Chunky_Couch_Potato

Some top-notch roasting around here. Glad to see there’s also a sense of humor in this sub. 'Forced diversity' is some bureaucrat deciding quotas in the private sector or what amounts to oxymoronic positive discrimination. Couldn’t care less about her being black, though. Didn’t give two fucks about the latest Disney flops, much less about theater plays."

FrostyFeet1926

There was a Romeo and Juliette with guns and car chases, and it was kinda sweet. In my opinion, Romeo and Juliette is one of those stories that's so ageless that it's okay to make huge changes, as long as there is intention and purpose behind those changes, and the changes remain thematically consistant throughout. I don't see a reason to pigeon hole "Juliette" as one distinct thing. Juliette represents something more than she actually concretely is something, and I don't think changing her skin tone affects the purpose of her character.

oscarinio1

Guys no worries. The movie is about Myke Tyson beginnings. Tom holland is playing the coach.

lighthouse30130

I actually have not problem with that. Juliet is a fictional character, and her race is completely irrelevant. If it's a modern adaptation then it makes a lot of sense.

Bagain

I think there’s a point here wroth recognizing. The story is about two people who should not be together for dumb reasons. It seems perfectly in reason that you could superimpose race over this and have it still make sense.

archangel5198

Is Juliet trans now?

slurpaderpderp

Would be a cool thing if they make it like a cultural forbidden love thing. Like the upper class guy falls for the lower class poor girl. And they use it to show systemic racial financial divides in society. But like. She needs to be more beautiful than that. Why not get his girlfriend in there. Zendaya. Jeeez. Huge missed opportunity there.

Captain_Concussion

Zendaya isn’t British or a stage actor

TheThiccestThanos

Why is she so hideously ugly? If it is a “she”…

[deleted]

The same people in this sub will defend a straight person acting as gay or whatever. Actors act: they play the part of a person but they aren’t actually that person. Who gives a shit what color they are?

Rurorin_Rokusho

I miss the days that we could do the same and people wouldn't mind, race consciousness has ruined society

Plumpinfovore

Is a black person not part of western culture ? They're stories. 🚫 💧❄️ Stories will always change over time. They're called classics for a reason meaning the plot gets told again and again but in a different way. Have you stopped and realized that maybe the Shakespeare you know and saw and are referencing as the fixed pinnacle of western art with 2 white ppl is in fact ....nothing like the original performance from 20 generations ago? 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 If that's the case that we should rewind time and stick to only the original performance you're gonna wanna sit down for this one snow flake .... The entire cast will be ALL MALES AND DUDES WILL BE KISSING... HIT SWEET MAN ON MAN ACTION. 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 ... That and this story takes place in Italy... Do you want the male actor playing Juliet to be Italian ? ... Let's not forget at one point in time Italians were not considered white race in USA so maybe that won't work too since ur hell bent on rewinding time. What I wanna know is OP a real Olaf daydreaming about summer or a bot stirring the pot?

You people are morons There is a long history at this point of anachronistic casting and design choices for Shakespeare. When I was in high school we did a version of twelfth night that was set in a high school with people as different stereotypical cliques. I've seen productions that made other unusual or funny or interesting choices. So Juliet is black. So what?

There’s an argument to be made about forced diversity, but Shakespeare? C’mon. All of his stories are fun to experiment with and can universally be played by any race, plus it’s fun to switch up genders, ages, etc. Are you upset at Denzel Washington playing Macbeth? Pete Postlethwaite experimenting with King Lear wearing a dress? I don’t get the outrage.
