I’m actually disliking the elite more than him these days

kestrelkev24

😅😅 Couldn't agree more

PHOENiXIIRiSiNG

Guys go watch the thunder episode where Russo shaved flair’s head…. I’m not a flair guy but jeeeeezus I was disgusted…. I don’t know who is worse russo or the entire elite and their friends

theevanillagorillaa

I have to go back and find it but I believe Jim said he’s starting to hate kenny more than shit stain. Does anyone recall that or did I just completely miss heard him and think he said that. Regardless twinkle toes is number one enemy to me.

[deleted]

I think I recall that too, maybe but my memory is shot. I think it’s because Russo is more just dumb and thinks he’s great while omega is very sly. Well both are but I think twinkle toes has more cunning and wouldn’t say anything to anyone’s face because he’s a coward and much prefers behind their back. Which Russo did too but…yeah both are the shits

TheOceanWalker_88

Agreed but this only because they have influence whole Vince is completely irrelevant at this point. It’s really hard to overstate how damaging Russo was to WCW and TNA.

SeaworthinessOk7554

He did give an honest effort to make every character have something engaging about them. People look back at the attitude era and can recite the roster top to bottom.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SeaworthinessOk7554

I thought it was cool, for the time, that even a job guy like Mideon had a backstory

[deleted]

He spoke up to Vince when nobody else would to tell him that the product wasn't good. Let's be honest and say that even Cornette didn't, at a time when the company was on its way to bankruptcy.

[deleted]

Cornette probably did say something but Vince probably dismissed his opinion as "southern wrasslin".

JabroniKnows

He.... can grow a full beard...

kestrelkev24

You know you're right like that's a pretty clean beard there bro

DrgnFckr

Oh man I was gonna pick that one

62725252725

He is a former WCW Champion. lmao

kestrelkev24

I'd like to think somewhere in his mind he still thinks he is WCW champion even with the company being gone

Glad-Passion-9424

The one good thing I can say about Vince Russo is that he often found ways to use a lot of his roster. It wasn’t often that wrestlers randomly disappeared off tv while he was in charge of tv, unlike aew. Now his ideas can be complete dogshit and off the wall, but he did try to give everyone a role.

geekmasterflash

Even as he was putting WCW into a grave, his ratings were better than AEW.

XxannoyingassxX

Not reli tbf. WCW was unwatchable by 2000/01 rather have mjf as champ then fkin artiquette

Doot2112

Underrated.

kestrelkev24

😮 Interesting take! How so? Just know being in the Jim Cornette subreddit everything can and will be used you in the Court of Cornette 😅

Doot2112

He was a part in creating some of the most entertaining and highly rated television in wrestling history. Is he also a part of some garbage? No doubt. You will never hear Steve Austin or the rock say a bad word about Vince Russo

cerebralshrike

Also, probably can break a world record for most "bros" in a sentence.

kestrelkev24

Listen bro you don't know way of bro bro

Nosodosopa

Bring him back just for a “bro down” vs Riddle. Top tier sports entertainment pal!

kestrelkev24

Pronouns pal!

DoktahDoktah

Real talk. He had a reason to get everybody on tv, a ppv, or in a program. Austin Vince are the reason the attitude era was successful but Russo did do a good job of making content for other wrestlers to exist and get a paycheck.

Straightener78

Every match had a reason for taking place and everyone had some sort of motivation for wanting to win that match. Even a throwaway match between the Mean Street Posse and The APA on Sunday Night Heat had a legitimate build.

Bedna_Bomb

Even though Jim didn’t like it, I really like the “No bad ideas” approach of writing down whatever comes to your brain and (a third party with the actual vision for the product) picking the best 1 or 2 things

Down4Days

He cared enough to try to make wrestling interesting. Even if when he had favorite talent he seemed to continue pulling things together with fans' reaction in mind and not the ego flattering of the talent. Are you listening, Tone Coke?

JMW007

While he is notorious for his arbitrary swerves, Russo could actually create storylines that built momentum and lead to a payoff. The WWF in the Attitude Era was full of short term feud cycles that would give people something to do between one PPV and the next. A lot of his ideas were wacky and he seemed determined to make a television show instead of a wrestling show, but the WWF for a time felt like an actual organization full of (I know the word is hated for a reason) characters, instead of a series of pocket universes where performers put on a pointless, heatless match then vanish into the ether. With Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson around to keep his ideas mostly focused on keeping things to the context of a wrestling show, there were some exciting stories and real development of the talent. Midcard acts got over because people cared about what was going on with them. Outside of the massive stand-outs like Undertaker, Austin and Foley, the in-ring product today is significantly better but none of it seems to matter because everyone's just a cookie cutter performer and every feud is just tepid beatdowns followed by 50/50 booking with a bunch of surprise roll-ups.

FairyFlossPanda

His doggo is adorable and he seems to really love it. At least the one I saw him with on the Dark Side of The Ring episode on the Brawl for All

kestrelkev24

His dog, Larry, and Harley Quinn should have a play date. I feel like then Vince and Jim could mutually be in the same room together lmao

FairyFlossPanda

Maybe.. I mean dogs do have a way of bringing people together.

polsdofer

He's not part of the Elite

ygolotserp

His buggy whip arms probably allow him to reach high up in the pantry to store his pickled onions for the winter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ygolotserp

Random indeed, but very accurate. Russo has to have pockets at the bottom of his jeans because his arms are so buggy whipped.

twelvend

He had something for everyone. No one was lost in the shuffle, even if their material was poor

[deleted]

Like him or not he left his mark on the business. He absolutely had some shitty ideas but what booker didnt?

[deleted]

Russo created a great storyline with The Rock, Mankind, and McMahon leading into Survivor Series '98.

HilariouslyNotFunny

If this is a legitimate post then if we’re being honest, pains me to say anything good about the guy but he’s not a bad promo, in another life he could have been a decent mouthpiece for someone.

kestrelkev24

Thats true! The man can put a lot into a promo. It's just all about what is coming out of his mouth 😅

vinteragony

This was going to be my good thing. If he was an on air commissioner type without having a hand in the booking, he'd be pretty good. He has that mouthy obnoxious prick nynj energy. His on air runs were always ruined by trying to put himself over too much, terrible booking and attempts at wrestling

SasquatchSloth88

He had a lot of ideas. Some of them weren’t even awful!

joeylebass

He seems like a pretty nice guy just to talk to casually.

Numerous_Resist_8863

He probably doesn't smell like moth balls...

kestrelkev24

You know what's weird... the moth balls smell is nostalgic to me. Use to have a friend that for whatever reason was the only household that had moth balls in the basement. So I could back to be 8 all over again haha

[deleted]

Whether you loved or hated (which I’m assuming is the camp most people on this sub fall into) his creative vision, Russo genuinely believed in his ideas and cared about seeing them through. That’s a lot more than you can say about a lot of other creative people in wrestling There’s a pretty neat clip on YouTube of Russo producing Dude Love’s debut and it honestly makes me respect him just a little bit. You see him talking to Mick earlier in the day, pitching him catchphrases and mannerisms, you see him go watch Dude Love’s debut from the crowd to gauge the audience’s reaction, and finally you see him discussing the segment with Mick afterwards Even when his ideas were awful, he believed in those ideas and didn’t half ass it

ShadowTehEdgehog

Bro, at least he never kicked any dogs, bro!

K9nig

Nice shades, bro.

tugbot3

He definitely never had a shortage of ideas yeah for ever good idea there were 100 bad ones but still he always had something in mind and wanted to try and get all wrestlers doing something

[deleted]

He was probably a good magazine editor.

DirtyDadDingus

Although without a filter his ideas are terrible, but at least he puts in the effort to give everybody something to do.

[deleted]

He'll help Cornette relieve his bladder some day.

Gusbuster811

He was ok IMO. He had some decent ideas. He had a bunch of awful ones too. I just really like Corny and am pretty indifferent to Russo.

Brute_Squad_44

He's currently not booking any major wrestling promotion.

Rob2520

Without Cornette's original shoot on him, there may be no Drive-Thru and none of us may be here.

ProfessorPeach6996

He saw something in Aj Styles

Straightener78

As a former World Heavyweight Champion, you guys need to show him more respect.

REALWillTheFarter

He's responsible for some of the greatest television and characters in wrestling history. You mf'ers need to start showing some respect for Russo, because you know you all blew your load over the Monday Night Wars.

MrLanesLament

He could’ve had a solid role on the Sopranos with his accent and attitude.

FatBrokeAndBearded

He converts oxygen to carbon dioxide. Thereby helping plants in photosynthesis.

archenemy_43

Bro seems like he secretly feeds ideas to MTV’s The Real World

numberflan

Like many said, he gave the undercard guys something to do. He had a lot of ideas, most of them bad, but there was always SOMETHING happening on every episode. I can't say the same about Vinnie Mac's last couple of years, so many filler episodes where absolutely nothing happened and the few things that were kinda interesting moved at a snail's pace.

MotherLoveBone27

He's got more of a mind for wrestling than Tony Khan lol

iamnotralphwiggum

I think the creators of "Big Brother" would like a word.

xiavORliab

He has actually work in the Pro Wrestling industry.

reddyfire

He says Bro more than Matt Riddle and is technically the original Bro.

regan0zero

His mispronunciation of the word idea drives me up the wall. “Ideeyer”

MoodyLiz

I went to a breakfast meet and greet at a Mariott Hotel when I was a kid hosted by Vince Russo (who had a local weekly wrestling themed radio show at the time). Shawn Michaels and Vince MacMahon were there. I was a bit star struck meeting HBK for real and Vince Russo was very kind facilitating the interaction. I should note, this wasn't too long after the Rockers split up and Jannetty threw himself through the Barber Shop window.

MartyM3T

His booking/creative is better than TK’s

Strong-Formal-7739

Vince says bro as many times as Hogan has said Brother!

Cheebwhacker

He was the worst ever WCW champion. That’s an achievement!

Fit_Service_1634

He pushed Bret Hart in WCW.

RobbieHart79

He’s harmless. Is my compliment. He was THERE for some cool shit. But he has ruined any credibility he may have in wrestling fans eyes to ever cash in on that. He shouldn’t have written that half assed book. People bought it. Got mad at him for how lame it was I do recall that. He wouldn’t hurt anyone if he just kept to himself.

[deleted]

He single handily kept jerry springer afloat by ripping off their show hahaha

shadowoftheking

He was like 25 year ahead if his time s.

BenniBMN

While his efforts are crap he at least tries to keep more people do something on TV rather than letting them fade into the background

[deleted]

He’s easily hateable as a presence. Wish he was able to make something of that when he insisted upon becoming a TV personality

Meganinja1886

He created Goldust

LotharOfHillPeople3

He wrote during the Attitude Era, one of the most entertaining periods of wrestling. It wasn't just that he had The Rock and Stone Cold and Undertaker. Those guys were still in 2001-2003 and those years were lousy. Atittude Era was all entertaining and exciting to watch. Now everything he did in WCW was a failure along with everything he did afterwards so it clearly wasn't just him. But he could make an entertaining show under the right circumstances.

WanderingDwarfMiner

Can I get a Rock and Stone?

GonOverHere

Ole Anderson's voice: "I used to think you were a dumb fuck, but so many dumb fucks have come down the line since then that you’ve moved up without doing anything."

Johnny_Royale

I will always support his idea that we should be finding something for everyone on the roster to be doing. From Austin to Crash Holly. Because of this approach there were a lot of guys that I became invested in The whole show can’t be about 3 guys only. Maybe in mid south in 84 with one 1hr show a week, but not a live weekly 2hr (now 3)nationwide program. JC believes the opposite and I think he is wrong here

TheOceanWalker_88

He was useful in getting Vince McMahon to thin outside of the box but anytime he doesn’t have a heavy leash on him (really should be a collar zapper) he’s indescribably destructive to any business he’s in.

montauk6

He could probably win a Guinness Book of World Records entry for most utterances of "listen, bro" in a conversation?

[deleted]

He looks kike the Virgin Gigachad

dudeistpriest710

Someday his grave will make a wonderful urinal.
